FIRST EVER - NEWLY INVENTED hydro electric river / canal power plant with inclined undershot water wheels. The concept concerns a hydro electric generator wherein the device is borne on a floating pier in a partially enclosed least primarily to eliminate reverse flow at the tailrace in a flood condition and water depletion at the generating wheels due to accelerated flow in a fully enclosed leat and where so in consequence dispense with the sluice gates normally used for regulating water supply. The siting for the device could be near a non tidal river bank where the river is of some magnitude in span but possibly in mid stream where the river is of much lesser proportion. The installation consists of six water wheels working in tandem which we will designate 1-6 in numeric order with wheels 1-3 utilised as flow impellors and wheels 4-6 used for power generation. The present invention relates to a hydroelectric generator. A known hydroelectric generator is disclosed in GB patent publication 2462895, which uses three water wheels for electricity generation. It is desirable to provide an improved hydroelectric generator assembly which uses more than three water wheels for power generation, thereby providing greater output of electrical power from said improved hydroelectric generator assembly. In a first embodiment the subject invention provides a hydroelectric generator assembly suitable for use on a non-tidal river comprising one or more floating piers with a plurality of water wheels arranged in series in a partially enclosed leat, wherein each of the said wheels on each of said one or more floating piers are coupled in pairs by a plurality of flywheel driven belts said hydroelectric generator assembly having an upstream portion comprising a plurality of water wheels adapted to accelerate the water, a downstream portion comprising a further water wheel adapted both to accelerate the water and to generate power, and a portion intermediate said upstream portion and said downstream portion comprising a plurality of water wheels adapted to generate power. An advantage of said hydroelectric generator assembly having a downstream portion comprising a further water wheel adapted to accelerate the water between spaced apart piers is that said hydroelectric generator assembly can comprise two or more piers containing generator wheels each pier axially spaced apart. A result of this is that said hydroelectric generator assembly can have a greater power output that known hydroelectric generator assemblies since power output is a function of the number of water wheels utilized in power generation. In known hydroelectric generator assemblies without the said further water wheel adapted to accelerate the water between axially spaced apart piers water leaving the generator via its tailrace had been slowed down through doing work on the generator wheels to a speed too slow satisfactorily to power further downstream water wheels. In said hydroelectric generator assembly each of said water wheels adapted to generate power are preferably connected to a gearbox and an alternator.
