The UK Labour Party is Not Socialist
A common misconception around UK politics is that the Labour party is somehow a socialist party. I couldn’t imagine anything further from the truth, but I am standing on the outside of it all. I frankly don’t see any reason why anyone would think they would be other than perhaps a past of supporting social programs benefiting the public. Any illusion of such should have died with the UK’s involvem

English/Nat
Labour leader Tony Blair, the man widely topped to become Britain's next prime minister has promised to build a new constructive relationship with Europe if he comes to power.
In a keynote speech at Labour's Annual Party Conference - his last before the next general elections - Blair mapped out his vision for Britain's future under a Labour government.
Britain's Prime Minister, John Major - leader of the Conservative party - must call an election within the next eight months. Opinion polls are predicting a Labour win for the first time in 17 years.
Blackpool in the north coast of England is a favourite spot for political party conferences.
And it was here that Labour leader Tony Blair made his final conference speech before the next general election. Blair - who's widely tipped to become Britain's next prime minister, rallied his troops behind the Labour banner and mapped out his vision for the future under a Blair government.
The Labour leader received a rapturous welcome when he appeared on stage.
The Labour party is currently ahead in the opinion polls - if it topples the ruling Conservative party at the next general election, Britain would have its first Labour government for 17 years.
Tony Blair had a message of unity for the party faithful.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Forget the past. No more bosses versus workers. We are on the same side, the same team and Britain united will win."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair - leader of Britain's Labour party
In his rousing keynote speech Blair vowed his government would rectify a number of issues.
Among the Labour leaders' top priorities would be improving British education standards.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Ask me my three main priorities for government and I tell you education, education and education."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair - leader of Britain's Labour party
The fight for education was the main plank of Blair's speech and he was adamant his party would rejuvenate a system that in Britain has suffered lack of funding and constant cuts for years.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"And I tell you my vision of the future. I would like a state education system in Britain so good, so attractive that the parents choose to put behind us the educational apartheid of the past, private and state, and I don't believe anything would do more to break down the class divides that have no place in a modern country in the 21st century."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair - leader of Britain's Labour Party
The Labour leader promised to take action over gun ownership following the Dunblane tragedy where 16 schoolchildren were shot dead by a gunman.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Well if they had been in that gym, if they had talked to those parents sitting on those tiny chairs where once their children had sat, they would have been emotional too. I believe that we should ban the private ownership and possession of handguns.
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair - leader of Britain's Labour Party
Blair also pledged to push Britain's relationship with the European Union to the top of his election campaign.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Britain has the Presidency of the European Union in the first half of 1998. One of our key priorities in that Presidency will be the completion of the single market. Well today even in opposition I set a deadline - June 1998 - the end of the British Presidency for the completion of the single market in Europe."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair - leader of Britain's Labour Party
Blair's speech met with an enthusiastic response by delegates at the conference.
But not all party members were swayed by what they heard.

Labour leader Tony Blair, the man widely tipped to become Britain's next prime minister has promised to build a new constructive relationship with Europe if he comes to power.
In a keynote speech at Labour's Annual Party Conference - his last before the next general election - Blair mapped out his vision for Britain's future under a Labour government.
Britain's Prime Minister, John Major - leader of the Conservative party - must call an election within the next eight months. Opinion polls are predicting a Labour win for the first time in 17 years.
Blackpool on the north coast of England is a favourite spot for political party conferences.
And it was here that Labour leader Tony Blair made his final conference speech before the next general election.
Blair - who's widely tipped to become Britain's next prime minister - rallied his troops behind the Labour banner and mapped out his vision for the future under a Blair government.
The Labour leader received a rapturous welcome when he appeared on stage.
The Labour party is currently ahead in the opinion polls - if it topples the ruling Conservative party at the next general election, Britain would have its first Labour government for 17 years.
He forcefully attacked the record of the Conservative government accusing them of breaking their promises.
SOUNDBITE:
"Look at them, the tax cutting party, that gave us the biggest tax rises in peace time history. The law and order party that doubled crime, that gave us a Home Secretary in court more often than the people he was supposed to be locking up."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, Leader of Britain's Labour Party
He also had a message for current Prime Minister John Major.
SOUNDBITE:
"And I say this to John Major. If he wants to be seen as an honest man, fight an honest campaign."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, Leader of Britain's Labour Party
Blair told the delegates the Conservatives were on their way out.
SOUNDBITE:
"Let us tell Kenneth Clarke and John Major, the real feel-good factor will arrive when the people of this country say goodbye to this government for good."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, Leader of Britain's Labour Party
His message was one of unity for the party faithful, but also a call towards a united Europe as well.
The Labour leader pledged to push Britain's relationship with the European Union to the top of his election campaign.
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, leader of Britain's Labour Party
One main plank of his speech was directed towards the state of education in Britain.
He promised among the Labour leaders' top priorities would be improving British education standards.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Ask me my three main priorities for government and I tell you education, education and education."
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair - leader of Britain's Labour party
Blair's speech met with an enthusiastic response by delegates at the conference.
But not all party members were swayed by what they heard.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"This is a pre-election conference and everyone knows a big show of unity is important. But quite frankly Tony Blair could recite the telephone directory and he'd get ten minutes of standing ovation.
SUPER CAPTION: Diane Abbott, Labour MP
But others agreed the speech was important.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
SUPER CAPTION: Gerald Kaufman, Labour MP

A common misconception around UK politics is that the Labour party is somehow a socialist party. I couldn’t imagine anything further from the truth, but I am standing on the outside of it all. I frankly don’t see any reason why anyone would think they would be other than perhaps a past of supporting social programs benefiting the public. Any illusion of such should have died with the UK’s involvement in the Iraq War. But there still are a significant number of people that think they are socialist.

Voting for the leadership of Britain’s main opposition Labour party is nearly ending with Jeremy Corbyn set to win. His possible victory has made former party leaders worried.
Four candidates are contesting the vote, among whom Corbyn is leading the opinion polls. His popularity has drawn reactions from senior Labour figures like Tony Blair and Gordon Brown who say Corbyn’s election will make the party less favorable among people. The 66-year-old's political beliefs are close to those of European anti-austerity movements like Greece’s Syriza and Spain’s Podemos. Labour Party leadership election was planned after Ed Miliband stepped down in May following his party’s defeat in the 2015 general elections.

English/Nat
The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair has made the first speech for 19 years by a Labour party leader in power.
At the party conference in Brighton, Blair received a standing ovation before beginning his speech.
His keynote speech at the party conference in Brighton, tallied his government's successes and set out his goal on Tuesday of a new, modern Britain that is compassionate but "with a hard edge."
Prime Minister Tony Blair left his hotel anxious, but with optimism, as be made his way towards the Labour Party Conference Centre in Brighton.
Rapturous applause swept Blair into the Labour Party's first conference since its landslide victory in May crushed the Conservatives after 18 years in power.
(English)
'Thank you for that wonderful welcome. Its being a very long time waiting for this moment. And all I can tell you is that I am deeply proud, and privileged to stand before you as the new Labour Prime Minister of this Country.'
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister
From then on, Blair paid tribute to particular members of his Cabinet.
He singled out his Northern Ireland Secretary, Mo Mowlam, for particular praise for her achievements in the Northern Ireland peace talks - and in accurately assessing the mood of country.
(English)
'Talking is no treachery. Agreeing is no betrayal. The real betrayal would be to let violence take the place of democracy in Northern Ireland again.'
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister
Launching his theme of Britain as a beacon to the world, the Prime Minister made it clear that the future of Britain lies in the heart of Europe.
But he didn't make it clear how this would be achieved.
(English)
'I know there will be a hard choice to come over the Single Currency in Europe. And our policy based as it is on the British national interests remains unchanged. But in or out, we will be affected by it. And we must remain able to influence the way that it works.'
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister
He seized on the chance for positive, morale-boosting oration.
Promoting his ambition for a new age of giving, that will bring out the best of Britain.
(English)
'Britain head and heart, will be unbeatable. That is the Britain I offer you, That is the Britain that together can be ours.'
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister
Blair's keynote speech, the first after 18 years of frustration, caught the mood of the Conference delegates.
Political observers saw the speech as upbeat and innovative - it will be regarded by many as the start of a presidential style of policy presentation.

(English)
'It is our destiny to lead in Europe. And Europe needs us for we have a vision in Europe. We want a 'Peoples Europe',
Free trade industrial strength, high levels of employment and social justice. A democratic Europe. Against that vision, is the bureaucrats Europe. A Europe thwarting open trade, unnecessary rules and regulations. The Europe of the Common Agricultural Policy and the endless committees leading nowhere. But we cannot shape that Europe unless we matter in Europe. I know there will be a hard choice to come over the Single Currency in Europe. And our policy based as it is on the British national interests remains unchanged. But in or out, we will be affected by it. And we must remain able to influence the way that it works.
SUPER CAPTION: Tony Blair, British Prime Minister
He seized on the chance for positive, morale boosting oration.

Bilderberg 2015: Mystery Surrounds Shadowy Globalist Summit
A shadowy collection of globalists embedded throughout centers of power worldwide — political, military, banking, media, intelligence, business, academia, and more — wrapped up their annual Bilderberg summit on June 14 in Telfs-Buchen, Austria. The secrecy-obsessed confab has been receiving increased attention, relatively speaking, even from even the establishment press in recent years, following decades of complete silence. This year was no exception. But what humanity’s alleged public servants and self-appointed masters were discussing behind closed doors and armies of taxpayer-funded security officially remains a mystery — potentially in violation of numerous laws such as the U.S. Logan Act. Essentially, though, your future and the future of your nation were on the agenda.
However, despite pretences of increased transparency, virtually nothing is known publicly about what “the money-changers and the self-appointed masters of the universe,” as the U.K. Guardian’s Kevin McKenna described them, were plotting at their mega-luxury hotel (shown). “Only bankers, the CEOs of multinationals and western political leaders who have been on their payroll for a minimum of 10 years get to attend,” McKenna wrote in a sarcastic and humorous piece. Of course, key establishment media operatives are also invited to attend, but only under conditions of strict secrecy. Along with the “journalists,” editors, propagandists, and media magnates were prime ministers, foreign ministers, defense ministers, top globalist bureaucrats, a president, CEOs, royalty, and even some convicted globalist criminals (anti-U.S. sovereignty fanatic Gen. David Petraeus) for good measure.
At this year’s summit, a variety of media outlets sent reporters, including the U.K. Guardian, Infowars, American Free Press, some local outlets, and others. As has generally been the case, reporters and even locals were treated with disdain, hostility, and suspicion by the tax-funded security operatives guarding the globalists inside. More than 2,000 police, paid for with public funds, were reportedly on hand to guard the paranoid globalists against a handful of protesters, reporters, and local residents at the resort. The security was so on edge that a “COBRA” officer reportedly accidently fired an assault rifle at a police helicopter flying overhead.
In the official release, Bilderberg bigwigs also claimed, “There is no desired outcome, no minutes are taken and no report is written.” “Furthermore, no resolutions are proposed, no votes are taken, and no policy statements are issued,” it also said. However, those claims fly in the face of a wide array of public statements by numerous Bilderberg attendees. For example, in 2010, former NATO boss and two-time Bilderberg attendee Willy Claes said in a radio interview that reports of speeches given at the summit are, in fact, compiled. “The participants are then obviously considered to use this report in setting their policies in the environments in which they affect,” Claes added, which analysts said was essentially an admission that Bilderberg attendees are secretly plotting your future behind closed doors.

Scottish Labour's vote against Trident deepens party split
Party delegates have taken different stances north and south of the border.
Scottish Labour's decision to vote against Trident renewal means that the party faces not just a left-right split but a north-south one too. The UK party continues to officially support renewal after voting not to debate the issue at its annual conference in September. But Scottish Labour delegates today voted by 70-30 per cent to scrap Trident. Nicola Sturgeon immediately highlighted the division, tweeting: "Good news that @scottishlabour has voted against Trident renewal...but it will only make a difference if UK Lab MPs vote against it in HoC." Should the UK party continue to back renewal, the SNP will argue that it merely proves the need for independence.
The Scottish party's decision is a defeat for leader Kezia Dugdale, who supports multilateral disarmament, and a victory for shadow Scottish secretary Ian Murray (and Labour's only MP north of the border) who opposes renewal. As a lifelong unilateralist, Jeremy Corbyn had encouraged delegates to reject Trident. The CND vice-president said in his speech to the conference on Friday: "[Keir] Hardie’s 'sunshine of socialism' was about providing people with decent housing, it was about promoting peace and defending jobs – and there is no contradiction between those last two points. We know there are skilled jobs in the defence industry. We cannot be negligent about skills and jobs. We must secure every one of them. But don’t tell me we can’t put those skills to better use: the innovators, the engineers, the technicians, the security staff and the civil servants too. No one should even consider allocating a penny saved on not renewing Trident until those skills and jobs are protected through a proper programme of diversification."
Maria Eagle, the shadow defence secretary, who supports renewal, is currently leading a review for the UK party. She told me last month that it would examine Trident "with a completely open mind" and said she was "not ruling out" endorsing unilateralism. Eagle's review is not due to be completed until the new year but Labour is likely to soon be forced to take a position. The SNP will almost certainly use its opposition day on 24 November to debate the issue and the Conservatives are considering bringing forward the vote on "maingate" renewal to December.
Only a handful of shadow cabinet members (Diane Abbott, John McDonnell, Jon Trickett, Murray) share Corbyn's unilateralism, with a majority, including Eagle, opposed. Andy Burnham has said he would resign if the party rejected renewal and others would llikely follow. Most expect Corbyn to allow shadow cabinet members a free vote but this would allow both the Tories and the SNP to denounce Labour as "weak" and "divided". One shadow cabinet member quipped that it would be "The first time a leader had called a free vote to allow himself to vote against party policy". Unless the UK Labour conference and National Policy Forum vote against renewal the party's official stance will remain one of support. The Scottish section's decision has made an already fraught divide worse.
Update: Unsurprisingly, Jeremy Corbyn has welcomed the result. A spokesperson said: "The vote by the Scottish Labour Party Conference on Trident renewal and the protection of defence jobs is a clear sign that Labour's democracy has opened up. Scottish Labour Party members have spoken. That will now feed into the wider UK Labour debate and review of defence policy."

Scottish Labour conference 2015: Jeremy Corbyn urges Scots to vote for change

Labour's UK leader Jeremy Corbyn has urged voters in Scotland to back a "left wing alternative" at next May's Holyrood election.
He made the plea during a speech to the Scottish Labour conference in Perth.
Mr Corbyn also said it was right that decisions about the party north of the border should be taken by members and activists in Scotland.
He has signed an agreement with Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale pledging a more autonomous structure.
In a direct message to voters in Scotland, Mr Corbyn said that those who were not happy with rising inequality, rising child poverty and widening health inequalities should vote Labour.
The electorate in Scotland goes to the polls on 5 May next year to choose their MSPs. Labour currently has 38 of the 129 elected representatives at Holyrood.
Mr Corbyn said: "Friends, if you want socialist change, if you want a left wing alternative, you have to vote for it.
"If you're satisfied that nearly a million people in Scotland are in fuel poverty or that half of all housing in Scotland falls short of official quality standards, then Labour isn't for you.
"But if you're not content, if you won't walk by on the other side, then vote for a party next May that is a democratic socialist party in both our words and our deeds. Vote Labour."
The MP admitted that his party had not always kept up with the changing politics of the UK.
Mr Corbyn said: "When the Scotland Bill goes through the House of Commons, the UK will become one of the most devolved nations in the world.
"The Labour Party needs to change to respond to that, and respond to the way we now do politics.
"That is why it is right that decisions about Scottish Labour will be taken by the members and activists of the Scottish Labour Party."
'Radical tradition'
Mr Corbyn set out his vision for Scotland and the UK as he called for the "sunshine of socialism" to break through against the "narrow, nasty" politics of David Cameron's Conservatives.
And he said the "radical tradition that has always been alive in Scotland" had inspired him throughout his political career.
Mr Corbyn also criticised the record of the SNP government in Edinburgh on education and the NHS - both areas which are devolved to Scotland.
He condemned an "education system where 6,000 children a year leave primary school unable to read properly and there are 4,000 fewer teachers in Scotland's classrooms".
And he said public spending watchdogs at Audit Scotland had "warned only last week of the pressure there is on our cherished NHS", with "seven out of nine targets missed and a real-terms budget cut" in Scotland.
Mr Corbyn added: "(Keir) Hardie's 'sunshine of socialism' was about allowing human freedom to break forth. But under this Scottish government it is breaking down."

David Sylvester. UKIP councillor who said that his god caused the 2013/14 floods were caused by marriage rights in the UK were made equal regardless of sexuality. He gave
UKIP a bad name. He lost his seat spectacularly in 2015 [1]. Needless to say, UKIP kicked him out of the party in 2014 for his stupid comments [2].
Then Lynton Yates, the UKIP candidate that said that disabled people on benefits should be banned from driving [3]. Thankfully he was not elected [4].
Then, the horror story. Robert Blay, who stood for the North East Hampshire constituency. He was filmed making the most repulsive racist bullsh!t imaginable [5] . He even threatened to
shoot his conservative rival if he ever became Prime Minister because (bizarre) his family history had not been in England for long enough, despite that his conservative rival had been born in the UK. Thankfully, he was a) not elected [6]and b) immediately kicked out of the party.
Then the straw that broke the camel's back. Kim Rose, who was standing as the UKIP candidate for Southampton Itchen, was questioned by police because he had served sausage rolls at an event [7]. Yes, providing food to members of the public is illegal (it's called treating). The party never recovered from this scandal. He came third on polling day.
List of councillors
1. Maureen Stowe. Elected as BNP councillor 2003 [8], she joined the Labour Party June 2004, but remained on the council as an independent. She passed away May 2012 [9]
.
2. Trevor Maxfield. Was the BNP’s Blackburn with Darwen branch organiser [10. Joined Labour 2010 and stood as Labour councillor 2011 to fight the Darwen’s Earcroft ward, which he won with 43.1% of the vote [11]. He won again in 2015 [12]. So happy were Labour to take this BNP branch organiser that they made him the town Mayor of Darwen [13].
3. Robert Fraser Labour county councillor was fined by Labour for saying "stick a knife in you as soon as look at you" and some Europeans "make the Irish look like complete amateurs" [14]. He came last in the 2015 election [15].
4. Teresa Aldred 2015 labour candidate for, was previously seen in a BNP video celebrating with BNP members [16]. The former head goon of BNP, Nick G, was in the video also. A photo of her also appears on the BNP website [17]. She is alleged to have made a facebook post in 2013 saying she would vote BNP. She was elected as Labour councillor for the Thurncourt ward on Leicester City Council in May 2015 [18].
5. Margaret Burke was elected as a councillor in 2014 for Milton Keynes. Ms Burke and her ex husband ran a Nazi group and had Hitler as their idol [19]. They ran the Milton Keynes November 9th Society [20]. She was elected as the Stantonbury ward Labour councillor in 2014 [21]. When she selected by Labour in 2012 the tories wrote to Harriet Harmon to say it was rank hypocrisy [22]. Needless to say, Labour were not moved by this and Ms Burke continued on as a Labour Nazi elected official.

Press TV, London
In the UK, the anti-austerity Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn faced down his critics as he delivered his inaugural conference speech following his shock victory in the leadership contest just over a month ago. Corbyn is attempting to unify a party still deeply divided after the veteran MP won nearly 60% of the vote. He said inequality and injustice are not inevitable but that the country should - and must change. Amina Taylor reports on one of the most eagerly awaited party conference speeches in a generation.

On 8th November 2014, British workers, members and supporters of the the CPGB-ML, together with representatives from Socialist Cuba and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, celebrated the 97th Anniversary of the Great Socialist October Revolution (1917 - 2014).
Joti Brar, of the CPGB-ML gives a powerful speech in which she outlines the charade of our 'democratic' British politics, which simply represents the best shell in which to encase the dictatorship of British finance capital. Con-Dem, Labour and UKIP are all the paid servants of the corporate elite - the barons of finance capital.
She contrasts the state of our politics and economy - riddled with crisis, unemployment and cuts to all our educational, health and welfare services - to the reality of life for the working masses under Socialism, ushered in by the glorious feats of the Russian workers, led by the Bolshevik party of Lenin and Stalin in the USSR.
In this way, we understand the significance of the October Revolution, whose impact on the modern world cannot be underestimated, or undone, and whose great light remains, as a towering beacon to the power of the creative energy of workers, who alone are capable of saving our planet from the destruction of imperialism, of finance capitalism, and placing it on a truly rational footing, ushering in an era of peaceful and progressive development.
Our reward for this great struggle, in the words of Bobby Sands, will be the laughter on the faces of our children. Join us in building a better world!
We say with Karl Marx and Frederick Engels, as outlined in their great work, the communist manifesto: "Workers of all countries unite! You have nothing to loose but your chains - you have a world to win!"
