A post office is a facility forming part of a postal system for the posting, receipt, sorting, handling, transmission or delivery of mail.
Post offices offer mail-related services such as acceptance of mail and sale of postage stamps, post office boxes, and sale of packaging and stationery. In addition, some post offices offer non-postal services such as passport applications and other government forms, car tax purchase, money orders, and banking services.
A post office may have a main customer service and point of sale area. Many postal codes or ZIP codes route an item to a specific post office; some correspond to a specific route or even delivery point (business, residence, or post office box).
In a "sorting office" or "delivery office", mail is sorted or processed for delivery. Large open spaces for sorting mail are also sometimes known as a sorting hall or postal hall. Over time, sophisticated mail sorting and delivery equipment has been developed, including Mail Rail.
In Commonwealth countries, many of the larger post office buildings in capital cities used the official title of General Post Office. In parts of Europe, special Postal censorship offices were known as Cabinets Noirs.
Hồ Chí Minh (Vietnamese pronunciation: [hô cǐ miɲ] (Vietnamese pronunciation: [hô̤ tɕǐmɪŋ] (listen)); 19 May 1890 – 2 September 1969), born Nguyễn Sinh Cung and also known as Nguyễn Tất Thành and Nguyễn Ái Quốc, was a Vietnamese Stalinist revolutionary leader who was prime minister (1945–1955) and president (1945–1969) of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam). He was a key figure in the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945, as well as the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) and the Việt Cộng (NLF or VC) during the Vietnam War.
He led the Việt Minhindependence movement from 1941 onward, establishing the communist-governed Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945 and defeating the French Union in 1954 at Điện Biên Phủ. He officially stepped down from power in 1955 due to health problems, but remained a highly visible figurehead and inspiration for Vietnamese fighting for his cause – a united, independent Vietnam – until his death. After the war, Saigon, the capital of Republic of Vietnam, was renamed Hồ Chí Minh City in his honor.

I don't know what it is, but I love visiting churches and temples. Maybe it's the peace and calmness that overcomes me when I visit these places that I love. Today we check out the Notre Dame Cathedral and right next door is the General Post Office. We cross another street to get some welcome air conditioning and seats to rest our feet before visiting the Xa Loi Pagoda.
What do you like doing on holidays? Cause it seems to me, that I always like going to temples and churches.

Hi there! This is a daily vlog channel. My name's Rosy and I'm from Australia. I'm planning to be a single mother by choice and I'm currently undergoing fertility treatment to have a baby. Because I have as yet an undiagnosed autoimmune disease (my rheumatologist suspects it's rheumatoid arthritis), an under active thyroid (hypothyroidism), vitamin d deficiency and a fatty liver I have to be very careful in what I eat, my stress levels and what I can do everyday.
If I overdo things, get stressed or eat the wrong foods I can either be just sick for a few hours to a few days. If I'm having a flare, it can range from aches and pains, fatigue, high fevers to being wheelchair bound.
I am taking medication for my various conditions and believe that exercise, a good home environment and food can help in relieving my various ailments.
I've been a vegetarian for the past 19 years and I'm currently transitioning to a gluten free, diary free diet because of my thyroid and autoimmune disease.
I'm also a hoarder in training, so I struggle with throwing things away and my goal is to have a home that is organised, clean and tidy.

STORYLINE:
Greek labour unions held a general strike on Wednesday over the country's economic austerity measures, leaving ferries in dock and various public transport shut down.
A mass protest was also being held.
The actions were called to oppose a new round of cuts to be voted on by parliament later this month, worth an estimated 23 (b) billion Euros (33 (b) billion US dollars) in savings through 2015.
Greece is receiving 110 (b) billion (158 (b) billion US Dollars) in rescue loans in a 2010-2013 programme from the European Union and International Monetary Fund.
Despite drastic spending cuts, the nation may need additional support to meet its financing needs next year, with borrowing rates in bond markets remaining too high.
An opinion poll commissioned by the private Mega TV station and published Tuesday said 71 percent of the public oppose the government's handling of the economic crisis, compared with 66 percent in February.
The Socialists' 18-month-old government held a slender lead over the main opposition conservatives. Details on the number of people questioned in the poll and its margin of error were not provided.
The protracted austerity, amid a two-year recession and unemployment at around 15 percent, has angered unions, which have held more than half a dozen general strikes over the past year.
Greece's largest labour union, the GSEE, is organising Wednesday's 24-hour strike together with the public sector union, ADEDY.
A GSEE statement said the strike is aimed at expressing workers' "strong protest at the (government's) unjust and cruel policies that have caused a surge in unemployment ... violated labour rights, and squandered public wealth, while failing to insure an exit from recession."

STORYLINE
Greek unions staged a nationwide strike on Wednesday, grounding flights, shutting schools and crippling public services, in a show of strength against government austerity measures aimed at pulling the debt-ridden country out of financial crisis.
In the first general strike since the centre-left government''s election in October, all flights to and from Greek airports have been cancelled, while
trains and ferries are also idle.
Roads and streets in Athens were nearly empty on Wednesday morning as commuters were left without most forms of public transport.
Public schools, tax offices and municipal offices are closed, while public hospitals are using emergency staff.
Journalists are also holding a 24-hour strike, and two separate demonstrations are planned for central Athens.
The country''s two largest umbrella labour groups, the private sector GSEE and public sector ADEDY, fiercely oppose a wave of belt-tightening measures announced over the past weeks to reduce the bloated budget deficit from 12.7 percent of gross domestic product to 8.7 percent this year.
GSEE spokesman Stathis Anestis said that if the measures were enforced, unemployment would skyrocket which could cause unrest.
"We cannot tolerate more belt-tightening and other changes in our work relationships, other cuts to our pension and social security rights and we ask they respect our right and the fundamental principle that the needs of people and society are above profits and market demands," Anestis said.
Greek unemployment hit a five-year high of 10.6 percent in November 2009, up from 9.8 percent in October.
The country''s woes have affected confidence in the euro as a common currency, and hiked the country''s borrowing costs.
The governing Socialists have frozen civil service wages and hiring while cutting bonuses, hiking consumer taxes and raising retirement ages.
These could include a hike in the Value Added Tax, currently at 19 percent, and further civil service bonus cuts.

STORYLINE
Greek public services closed down and transport was disrupted across the country on Thursday as thousands of workers went on strike to protest government spending cuts.
The general strike, called by the two biggest umbrella unions representing the private and public sectors, shut down all government offices and state schools, while state hospitals functioned with emergency staff.
Air traffic controllers started a three-hour work stoppage at noon (0900 GMT), halting all flights to and from Greek airports.
Most ferry and railway schedules were cancelled, while public transport in Athens was disrupted.
Journalists also joined the strike, keeping news programmes off the air and preventing Friday's newspapers from being published.
Strike organisers for the GSEE and ADEDY unions said they had planned a rally and march to parliament later in the day.
Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis' conservative government this month announced a salary freeze for many civil servants and a one-off tax increase on higher-income earners.
The move angered unions, which said high-earning businesses should shoulder the burden.
They also oppose a government decision to let struggling businesses relax labour rules.
The conservatives - who hold a one-seat majority in parliament and trail the main opposition Socialists in the polls - are struggling to cope with the economic downturn.
Although the global crisis has not yet hit hard in the form of bankruptcies and mass layoffs, Greece has scaled down its 2009 growth forecast to 1.1 percent from 2.7 percent.
The deficit is forecast to reach 3.7 percent of gross domestic product in 2009.
The European Commission has told the government to rapidly bring the deficit under 3 percent by the end of 2010 and control spending to reduce overall debt, which at about 94 percent of GDP is one of the highest in the EU.

Dublin is the capital of the Irish Republic and is a city of musicians, poets and dreamers. Its Georgian buildings, whisky distilleries and historic castles are tangible and colorful reminders of bygone times. Numerous well preserved buildings, cafes, churches and idyllic canals also add to the captivating atmosphere of this fun loving city.
One of the city's main landmarks is a splendid structure, Halfpenny Bridge, which derived its name due to a toll that was once extracted from those who crossed it.

A power station (also referred to as a generating station, power plant, powerhouse, or generating plant) is an industrial facility for the generation of electric power.[1][2][3] Most power stations contain one or more generators, a rotating machine that converts mechanical power into electrical power. The relative motion between a magnetic field and a conductor creates an electrical current. The energy source harnessed to turn the generator varies widely. Most power stations in the world burn fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas to generate electricity. Others use nuclear power, but there is an increasing use of cleaner renewable s

...The first scheduled U.S. Air Mail service began on May 15, 1918, using U.S Army Curtiss JN-4HM "Jenny" biplanes flown by Army pilots operating on a route between Washington, D.C. (Washington Polo Grounds) and New York City (Belmont Park) with an intermediate stop in Philadelphia (Bustleton Field). Among those who were on hand for the departure of the first flight from Washington, D.C., were President Woodrow Wilson, U.S. Postmaster General Albert S. Burleson, and Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt. Army Lt. George L. Boyle was selected to pilot aircraft #38262 on the first Northbound flight...
After four months of the mail being flown by the Army, all flight operations were taken over by the USPOD's Aerial Mail Service on August 12, 1918, using a fleet of six purpose built mail biplanes designed and constructed by the Standard Aircraft Corporation of Elizabeth, NJ, and flown by civilian pilots hired by the Post Office Department. After a number of "pathfinder" flights made in September, November, and early December, the first flight providing scheduled east-west service between New York and Chicago occurred on December 17, 1918...
Scheduled Transcontinental Air Mail service flown between New York (Hazelhurst Field, L.I.) and San Francisco (Crissy Field) began on September 8, 1920, over a route laid out in July and August by Eddie Rickenbacker and Bert Acosta who had helped pilot the first experimental through flight carrying about 100 letters which landed at Durant Field located at 82nd Ave and E. 14th St. in East Oakland. The transcontinental mails were originally flown only during daylight hours while being entrained at night, although on February 22, 1921, a nighttime leg on this route (Omaha to Chicago) was flown for the first time with Jack Knight as the pilot. The first daily Transcontinental Air Mail service involving both day and night flying over the entire route was opened on July 1, 1924, which reduced the time of the trip from more than 70 hours to a schedule of 34 hours 46 minutes Westbound, and 32 hours 3 minutes Eastbound.. In addition to New York and San Francisco, the route included thirteen intermediate stops where mails were exchanged and aircrew relieved. This was accomplished at airfields located at Bellefonte (PA), Cleveland (OH), Bryan, (OH), Chicago (IL), Iowa City (IA), Omaha (NE), North Platte (NE), Cheyenne (WY), Rawlins (WY), Rock Springs (WY), Salt Lake City (UT), Elko (NV) and Reno (NV)...
For the first eight years of the Air Mail service (May, 1918 to February, 1926), all mails were flown entirely in U.S. Government owned and operated airplanes. On February 2, 1925, however, the Congress mandated that this would change..

The Airco DH.4 was a British two-seat biplane day bomber of the World War I. It was designed by Geoffrey de Havilland (hence "DH") for Airco, and was the first British two-seat light day-bomber to have an effective defensive armament. It first flew in August 1916 and entered service with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) in March 1917. The majority of DH.4s were actually built as general purpose two-seaters in the United States, for service with the American forces in France...
The U.S. Post Office also adopted the DH-4 to carry air mail. In 1919, the DH-4B was standardised by the US Post Office, being modified to be flown from the rear cockpit with a 400 lb (180 kg) watertight mail compartment replacing the forward cockpit. The airmail DH-4B were later modified with revised landing gear and an enlarged rudder. DH-4s were used to establish a coast-to-coast, transcontinental airmail service, between San Francisco and New York, a distance of 2,680 mi (4,310 km), involving night flight, the first services starting on 21 August 1924. The DH-4 continued in Post Office service until 1927, when the last airmail routes were passed to private contractors...

Documentary on the life of Patrick Pearse, Pádraic or Pádraig Pearse; Irish: Pádraig Anraí Mac Piarais; An Piarsach;
In 1915 he joined the IRB. He was co-opted onto their Supreme Council and the Secret Military Council. Pearse’s graveside oration at O’Donovan Rossa’s (fenian) funeral in 1915, ended with the much quoted words, ‘Ireland unfree shall never be at peace’, and was influential in the build up to the Easter Rising.
Pearse played an active role in the subsequent preparations for the Rising: arranging for the landing of German arms on the Aud; negotiating with Connolly; instructing and sending despatches to the volunteers; lulling the British authorities and deceiving Eoin O’Neill. He also wrote at length to justify and to explain the reasons for an insurrection. He committed the Gaelic League to action. His declaration that the Gaelic League was a political body led to the resignation of Dr. Douglas Hyde. On the 23 April, the Military Council appointed him Commandant-General of the Army of the Irish Republic and President of the Provisional Government, which was to be proclaimed the next day.
During Easter week Pearse served at the rebellion headquarters, the General Post Office (GPO), Dublin. He along with six other signatories signed the ‘Proclamation of the Irish Republic’, which he as Chairman of the Provisional Government read to the public on the 24 April, 1916. This signalled the beginning of the Easter Rising. Pearse and fourteen other leaders, were executed by firing squad after the Rising. Another leader, Sir Roger Casement was hanged in London in Aug 1916.

Travel video about destination Dublin in Ireland.
Dublin Castle is one of the city's oldest buildings. It has seen much transformation and is a combination of several building styles. After the Vikings, the Normans conquered the city and ruled over it for 700 years and under King Henry VIII, Dublin became the capital of what was then a British colony.
Trinity College is Ireland's oldest and most venerable university. It was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I. The high standard of education offered here has attracted famous pupils such as Jonathan Swift, Henry Grattan and Samuel Becket.
Dublin's General Post Office was once the site of an important historical event. Under the leadership of Padraig Pearse and James Connolly, around a hundred men occupied the post office and thus began Ireland's struggle for Independence. In Easter of 1916, the Irish Republic was born.
Bursting with pubs and music, this most hospitable city is a wonderful combination of lively city life and infectious Irish blarney!

Profile of the great British contralto Kathleen Ferrier. Contributors include Janet Baker, George Christie, Evelyn Barbirolli and Ian Jack.
Kathleen Mary Ferrier, CBE (22 April 1912 – 8 October 1953) was an English contralto singer who achieved an international reputation as a stage, concert and recording artist, with a repertoire extending from folksong and popular ballads to the classical works of Bach, Brahms, Mahler and Elgar. Her death from cancer, at the height of her fame, was a shock to the musical world and particularly to the general public, which was kept in ignorance of the nature of her illness until after her death. She was especially known in Britain for her unaccompanied recording of the Northumbrian folk tune Blow the Wind Southerly, which was played regularly on BBC Radio for many years after her death.
The daughter of a Lancashire village schoolmaster, Ferrier showed early talent as a pianist, and won numerous amateur piano competitions while working as a telephonist with the General Post Office. She did not take up singing seriously until 1937, when after winning a prestigious singing competition at the Carlisle Festival she began to receive offers of professional engagements as a vocalist. Thereafter she took singing lessons, first with J.E. Hutchinson and later with Roy Henderson. After the outbreak of the Second World War Ferrier was recruited by the Council for the Encouragement of Music and the Arts (CEMA), and in the following years sang at concerts and recitals throughout England. In 1942 her career was boosted when she met the conductor Malcolm Sargent, who recommended her to the influential Ibbs and Tillett concert management agency. She became a regular performer at leading London and provincial venues, and made numerous BBC radio broadcasts.
In 1946, Ferrier made her stage debut, in the Glyndebourne Festival premiere of Benjamin Britten's opera The Rape of Lucretia. A year later she made her first appearance as Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, a work with which she became particularly associated. By her own choice, these were her only two operatic roles. As her reputation grew, Ferrier formed close working relationships with major musical figures, including Britten, Sir John Barbirolli, Bruno Walter and the accompanist Gerald Moore. She became known internationally through her three tours to the United States between 1948 and 1950 and her many visits to continental Europe.
Ferrier was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 1951. In between periods of hospitalisation and convalescence she continued to perform and record; her final public appearance was as Orfeo, at the Royal Opera House in February 1953, eight months before her death. Among her many memorials, the Kathleen Ferrier Cancer Research Fund was launched in May 1954; the Kathleen Ferrier Scholarship Fund, administered by the Royal Philharmonic Society, has since 1956 made annual awards to aspiring young professional singers.

Electrifcation (Electricity Generation)_ Power Generation -Transmission & Distribution
Others use nuclear power, but there is an increasing use of cleaner renewable sources such as solar, wind, wave and hydroelectric.
The world's first power station was designed and built by Lord Armstrong at Cragside, England in 1868. Water from one of the lakes was used to power Siemens dynamos. The electricity supplied power to lights, heating, produced hot water, ran an elevator as well as labor-saving devices and farm buildings.[4][5]
The first public power station was the Edison Electric Light Station, built in London at 57, Holborn Viaduct, which started operation in January 1882. This was a project of Thomas Edison that was organized and managed by his partner, Edward Johnson. A Babcock and Wilcox boiler powered a 125 horsepower steam engine that drove a 27 ton generator called Jumbo, after the celebrated elephant. This supplied electricity to premises in the area that could be reached through the culverts of the viaduct without digging up the road, which was the monopoly of the gas companies. The customers included the City Temple and the Old Bailey. Another important customer was the Telegraph Office of the General Post Office, but this could not be reached though the culverts. Johnson arranged for the supply cable to be run overhead, via Holborn Tavern and Newgate.[6]
In September 1882 in New York, the Pearl Street Station was established by Edison to provide electric lighting in the lower Manhattan Island area. The station ran until destroyed by fire in 1890. The station used reciprocating steam engines to turn direct-current generators. Because of the DC distribution, the service area was small, limited by voltage drop in the feeders. The War of Currents eventually resolved in favor of AC distribution and utilization, although some DC systems persisted to the end of the 20th century. DC systems with a service radius of a mile (kilometer) or so were necessarily smaller, less efficient of fuel consumption, and more labor-intensive to operate than much larger central AC generating stations.
AC systems used a wide range of frequencies depending on the type of load; lighting load using higher frequencies, and traction systems and heavy motor load systems preferring lower frequencies. The economics of central station generation improved greatly when unified light and power systems, operating at a common frequency, were developed. The same generating plant that fed large industrial loads during the day, could feed commuter railway systems during rush hour and then serve lighting load in the evening, thus improving the system load factor and reducing the cost of electrical energy overall. Many exceptions existed, generating stations were dedicated to power or light by the choice of frequency, and rotating frequency changers and rotating converters were particularly common to feed electric railway systems from the general lighting and power network.
Throughout the first few decades of the 20th century central stations became larger, using higher steam pressures to provide greater efficiency, and relying on interconnections of multiple generating stations to improve reliability and cost. High-voltage AC transmission allowed hydroelectric power to be conveniently moved from distant waterfalls to city markets. The advent of the steam turbine in central station service, around 1906, allowed great expansion of generating capacity. Generators were no longer limited by the power transmission of belts or the relatively slow speed of reciprocating engines, and could grow to enormous sizes. For example, Sebastian Ziani de Ferranti planned what would have been the largest reciprocating steam engine ever built for a proposed new central station, but scrapped the plans when turbines became available in the necessary size. Building power systems out of central stations required combinations of engineering skill and financial acumen in equal measure. Pioneers of central station generation include George Westinghouse and Samuel Insull in the United States, Ferranti and Charles Hesterman Merz in UK, and many others.

SPECIAL GUEST: GENERAL KEVIN RYAN & CLINT JENKIN
What was really said in a closed-door meeting in Germany last month between retired American and Russian military and intelligence officers? Did Vlad Putin send a message that he is prepared to use nuclear weapons to defend Russia from NATO’s encroachment on Russia’s border? Rick talks with retired Brig. General Kevin Ryan, Director of the Defense and Intelligence Project at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. General Ryan organized the meeting and attended. In Part 2, Barna Research Vice President Dr. Clint Jenkin shares with Rick the results of a religious survey of Millennials that shows that a surprising number of them believe Jesus Christ committed sins.

These could include a hike in the Value Added Tax, currently at 19 percent, and further civil service bonus cuts.

...The first scheduled U.S.
On February 2, 1925, however, the Congress mandated that this would change..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airco_DH.4

Patrick Pearse - Fanatic Heart
Documentary on the life of Patrick Pearse, Pádraic or Pádraig Pearse; Irish: Pádraig Anraí Mac Piarais; An Piarsach;

Dublin Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Dublin in Ireland.

Kathleen Ferrier: An Ordinary Diva (BBC)
Kathleen Ferrier: An Ordinary Diva (BBC)

Electrifcation (Electricity Generation)_ Power Generation -Transmission & Distribution
