Officials said, that about 725,000 were evacuated from their homes as Typhoon Melor slammed into the eastern Philippines on Monday.
The government's weather bureau said the typhoon was packing winds of 95 miles per hour with gusts of up to 115 mph, and heavy to intense rain within its 185-mile diameter.
Known locally as typhoon Nona, it made landfall Monday morning on tiny Batag Island in the eastern Philippines. A second landfall was expected in Sorsogon province, which is located on the heavily populated main island of Luzon.
Initial reports from Red Cross chapters in areas affected by the typhoon indicated "minimal impact so far," but some buildings were damaged, according to International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies spokeswoman Kate Marshall.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 724,839 residents of three eastern provinces were evacuated Sunday and early Monday before the storm's arrival.

MANILA, Philippines — About 725,000 people fled their homes and communities braced for heavy rain and coastal floods of up to 4 meters (13 feet) as Typhoon Melor slammed Monday into the eastern Philippines, officials said. Classes, flights and ferry trips were suspended.
The government's weather bureau said the typhoon was packing winds of 150 kilometers (95 miles) per hour with gusts of up to 185 kph (115 mph), and heavy to intense rain within its 300-kilometer (185-mile) diameter. It made landfall Monday morning on tiny Batag Island in the eastern Philippines, and a second landfall was expected in Sorsogon province.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 724,839 residents of three eastern provinces were evacuated Sunday and early Monday before the storm's arrival.
The largest numbers of evacuees were in Sorsogon and Albay provinces.
Bernardo Alejandro, a regional civil defense official, said many residents of Sorsogon voluntarily went to shelters Sunday night, but the provincial governor then ordered evacuations Monday for residents who had refused to leave their homes despite the risk of floods and landslides.
In Albay, about 590,000 residents were evacuated as a precaution, including tens of thousands from around Mount Mayon volcano, where volcanic mudflows are an added threat, the national council said.
Edgar Posadas, a civil defense official in the Eastern Visayas region, said parts of Allen town in Northern Samar province were flooded, and strong winds tore off roofs and felled coconut trees.
He said no casualties had been reported even in the northern tip of the province, where the typhoon first made landfall, and that the evacuation of residents and preparedness of local officials had so far proved effective.
About 20 storms and typhoons hit the Philippines each year. In November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan, the strongest typhoon on record to make landfall, left more than 7,300 people dead and missing as it leveled entire villages and swept walls of seawater into parts of the central Philippines.

For more WORLD NEWS "SUBSCRIBE" US
Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated from the central Philippines on Monday as a typhoon with winds of up to 150 kph (95 mph) made landfall, dumping heavy rain that could cause flooding, landslides and storm surges, authorities warned.
About 40 domestic flights were grounded, while 73 ferries and hundreds of fishing boats were ordered to remain in port as typhoon Melor hit the village of Batag on the northern tip of Samar island.
Known locally as typhoon Nona, it was expected to roll across nearby islands before making landfall later on Monday close to Sorsogon, about 385 km (240 miles) southeast of the capital, Manila, on the heavily populated main island of Luzon.
Melor was plotting a similar path to Haiyan, a category 5 typhoon that struck the central Philippines in 2013. Almost 8,000 people were killed or left missing by Haiyan.
Disaster authorities have temporarily closed schools and some offices and evacuated about 750,000 people in three provinces. About 8,000 people were stranded after the coast guard stopped ferries and fishing boats from leaving ports in the central Philippines.
"Melor is a very compact typhoon, so that will prevent its most devastating impacts from extending too far from its centre," said AccuWeather meteorologist Adam Douty.
He said the typhoon had weakened a little as it encountered drier air early on Monday. "While Melor will not slam onshore as a super typhoon as once feared, it still poses dangers to lives and property," Douty said.

SUPER TYPHOON KOPPU MAKES LANDFALL IN PHILIPPINES

Source: CNN
Super Typhoon Koppu, known as Lando in the Philippines, made landfall near Casiguran in Luzon's Aurora province at 1 a.m. local time Sunday morning, after a long-feared rapid intensification.
Reports of power outages were already coming in from the town of Baler, southwest of the eye late Saturday night.
The U.S. military's Joint Typhoon Warning Center upgraded Koppu to a super typhoon, a term used for typhoons with maximum winds of at least 150 mph, equivalent of a Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale in its 11 a.m. EDT advisory Saturday.
Koppu/Lando is the strongest landfall in Luzon in five years. The most ominous threat for the Philippines, however, should be its prolific rainfall as it grinds across the mountains and valleys of Luzon, the main island of the northern Philippines and home to almost half of the country's 98 million people.
Koppu's outer rainbands lashed parts of the Philippines Friday and Saturday while winds in its inner core continued to power up. The powerful tropical cyclone is expected to make landfall within the next 12 hours before tracing a painfully slow and dangerously rainy path across the northern part of that country this weekend and early next week.
Catastrophic Flood Threat from Days-Long Deluge
Koppu/Lando is a particularly worrisome flood risk because it is expected to slow its forward motion during and after landfall this weekend over Luzon.
Rainfall potential in a tropical cyclone is largely a function of the cyclone's forward speed, not its wind intensity.
Computer model guidance and official forecasts from the U.S. Joint Typhoon Warning Center and the Japan Meteorological Agency suggest the center of Koppu/Lando may hover over or near Luzon through Tuesday, a period of over 48 hours.
The first rainbands began wrapping into eastern parts of Luzon Friday. As of 2 p.m. Saturday local time, the city of Virac, on an island just off the southeast end of mainland Luzon, had already picked up 181.4 millimeters (7.14 inches) of rainfall since the start of Friday.
With outer rainbands already wrapping into parts of Luzon, and some lingering bands potentially persisting on the south side of the circulation as late as Wednesday, Luzon could be looking at up to 6 days of heavy rainfall from Koppu/Lando before what's left of it finally drifts farther north.
With rain rates in tropical cyclones typically in excess of 2 inches per hour and additional lift for the moist air provided by Luzon's mountainous terrain, extreme storm totals of 20 to 40 inches (500 to 1,000 millimeters) are likely across much of northern Luzon.

Philippines are located in the South East Asia Region. Known to be the Republic of the Philippines, as well as famous with the name Pearl of the Orient. Philippine history states that they have been in several battles for freedom and independence. But together with the modern civilization, Philippines arenow known to be one of the progressive countries in Asia both in economy and services. But setting aside its military and governance, history, strategically the Philippines is located in the Western part of the Pacific Ocean. The Pacific region is known and considered as the largest body of water around the globe. It can be larger than a country’s size and much more powerful than any military movement.
Storms and typhoons usually form in the middle or within the pacific regions that is why countries located nearby or even in the pacific region are usually the victims of this disaster. That is why Philippines have been through a lot of typhoons until now ranging at about 8 or more storms. This fact is not something to be proud of because sometimes nature can be very dangerous to every person it swooped in. That is why several typhoons were recorded striking and damage the Philippines. Now here is the list of the deadliest typhoon in the Philippines.

Philippines Supertyphoon Haiyan Hitting Coastal Area - World's Strongest Storm
Super typhoon Haiyan, likely the strongest storm to form on the planet this year, is heading toward a Friday morning landfall in the Philippines, posing an extremely serious threat to the central part of the archipelago.
The storm is near its theoretical maximum strength, with sustained winds of 290 kph, and is not expected to weaken significantly, due to very warm water temperatures along its path, reports the Washington Post.
Haiyan, known as Yolanda in the Philippines, is likely to push a storm surge of at least two or three meters along the eastern coast of southern Luzon and Samar islands, and will impact the area that was ravaged by the 7.1 magnitude earthquake in mid-October.

MANILA, Philippines – The center of Typhoon Lando (Koppu) made landfall over Aurora province, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
At 1 am, Sunday, October 18, Typhoon Lando was estimated to be in the vicinity of Casiguran town.
As it hit land, it continued to pack maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 220 km/h.
The United States Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) upgraded Typhoon Lando (Koppu) to super typhoon status on Saturday at 11 pm, October 17.
Independent local weather organization Weather Philippines followed suit an hour after, 12 am, Sunday, October 18, calling Lando "a dangerous Super Typhoon" as it continues to move slowly westward in the past 6 hours approaching the shoreline of Aurora.
"This cyclone will bring powerful winds and heavy rains across the eastern sections of Northern Luzon today through Sunday," Weather Philippines said in its advisory.
In its 11 pm bulletin, however, PAGASA maintained that Lando was still a typhoon.
Help on the way
At a little past 1 am, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reported loss of power in Bgy Isteves in Aurora Province, Santiago City in Isabela also in Aurora, and the municipality of Nagtipunan and Madella in Quirino.
Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), according to NDRRMC, had prepositioned 8 army cargo trucks, 20 Air Force helicopters, and other Navy assets for search and rescue operations.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) prepositioned resources with more than P18,400,000 standby funds, 196,737 family food packs, and P158,164,761.76 worth of food and non-food items available. The DSWD has also scheduled the delivery of food packs to the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Baler in Aurora

Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated in the central Philippines, where a fierce storm is lashing coastal areas with heavy wind and rain.
Typhoon Melor intensified rapidly over the weekend as it moved toward the eastern island of Samar.
By Monday morning, it wielded maximum sustained winds of about 205 kph (125 mph), the equivalent of a strong Category 3 hurricane.
The storm also brings the threat of torrential rainfall across the heart of the Philippine archipelago, including the densely populated region around Manila, the capital.
"This is going to produce significant amounts of rain," CNN weather anchor Derek Van Dam warned. "This part of the world means we could get landslides and flooding."
Typhoon Melor, known in the Philippines as Nona, was expected to clip the sparsely populated northern coast of Samar on Monday. It'll then move west toward more urban areas on the southern tip of Luzon, the country's largest island.

The weather bureau said typhoon Melor, known locally as Nona, was about 205 km (130 miles) east of Samar island and had intensified from a category 2 storm overnight, with winds of up to 150 kph (95 mph) at its center.
It was plotting a similar path to Haiyan, a category 5 typhoon that struck the central Philippines in 2013. Almost 8,000 people were killed or left missing by Haiyan.
Melor was expected to make landfall on Monday night in Sorsogon province at the southeastern tip of the main island of Luzon. Disaster authorities have temporarily closed schools and some offices and have started evacuations.
About 8,000 people were stranded in ports after the coast guard stopped all ferry services and fishing in the central Philippines.
"Melor is a very compact typhoon, so that will prevent its most devastating impacts from extending too far from its center," said AccuWeather meteorologist Adam Douty.
He said the typhoon had weakened a little as it encountered drier air early on Monday. "While Melor will not slam onshore as a super typhoon as once feared, it still poses dangers to lives and property," Douty said.
Alexander Pama, executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, said typhoon Melor was expected to cause flooding, landslides and storm surges of up to 4 meters (13 feet) and disrupt power and communications.
About 20 provinces, including around the capital, Manila, are under public storm alert due to strong winds and torrential rains of up to 300 mm (12 inches) within a 300 km (185 miles) radius.
About 20 major typhoons pass through the Philippines each year.
