HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, consented to attend the Plenary Session of the United Nations Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Agenda here yesterday.
His Majesty, in the titah, said as the United Nations commemorates the 70th anniversary this year, it was very timely for the nations to reflect on their work since the Millennium Summit in 2000 and at the same time, look beyond 2015. His Majesty was encouraged by what had been achieved so far with the Millennium Development goals (MDGs).
His Majesty added that the world has witnessed a decline in extreme poverty, an increase in access to primary education in developing regions, and improvements in child as well as maternal health.
These showed that the target-oriented approach taken by the United Nations was both practical and feasible. His Majesty said that, at the same time, there has been different level of progress worldwide which means there is still much work to be done.
His Majesty was therefore pleased that the Secretary-General had presented a new development agenda, covering targets built upon the MDGs and also new objectives to address gaps identified over the past 15 years.
His Majesty felt reassured by the fact that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are people-centred, inclusive and comprehensive. They focus on people, the planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership.
His Majesty added that to achieve the goals, member states have to enhance individual and collective actions. His Majesty further added that they have to work in partnership through capacity building, learning from each other’s experiences, and sharing best practices.
His Majesty also stated that each country has a challenging task ahead, but was optimistic that with firm commitment, they will be able to deliver.
The monarch said it is for this reason that Brunei Darussalam always values cooperation with external partners both bilaterally and multilaterally.
Brunei Darussalam looks forward to further strengthening its relations with various UN agencies, to support national development plans that are in line with the SDGs. Brunei Darussalam also attaches great importance to the work of ASEAN towards realising an ASEAN Community by 2015.
His Majesty added that later this year, ASEAN will adopt its own Post-2015 Vision which will complement and support the global development agenda.
His Majesty further stated that the task now is to focus on the transition from the MDGs to the SDGs, particularly for developing countries. The monarch also agreed with the areas highlighted in the document, which present specific challenges. His Majesty recognised that member states all have different priorities and approaches.
The Sultan, however, saw a commonality in the commitment to place sustainable development at the core of this efforts to give people a better life. These include alleviating poverty, reducing inequalities, promoting quality education, addressing climate change, and achieving gender equality.
His Majesty said the SDGs have to be meaningful for every man, woman and child. It is especially crucial youths to be included because they stand to inherit the new agenda. His Majesty was therefore pleased that the new agenda has rightly emphasised the importance of youths. Furthermore, it will provide a platform for empowerment through initiatives such as the provision of universal access to quality education.
His Majesty also pointed out that investing in people is vital in the pursuit of the future the member states want, adding that they all aspire to create a better world for the peoples and future generations. His Majesty called on the member states to act boldly and urgently, saying the new agenda would provide a valuable roadmap to move forward. His Majesty stated that to succeed, peace and stability must be maintained. His Majesty concluded the titah by expressing support for the adoption of this Post-2015 Development Agenda, and is confident of its success.
Accompanying His Majesty were Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Second Minister of Finance at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghafar bin Haji Ismail, Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations.

HM visits nat’l security exercise site.
SEVERAL residential and commercial areas have been on lockdown for the past two days as over 5,000 personnel from 27 government agencies participate in a three-day national security exercise.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, visited exercise sites in Brunei-Muara yesterday, where various scenarios are being staged including an airplane crash in Mengkubau.
After being briefed on the exercise, codenamed Eksesais Perisai Kebangsaan 04/2015, at the Prime Minister’s Office, the monarch then inspected operations at the State Control Centre, located at the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) headquarters in Gadong.
His Majesty proceeded to the Air Traffic Service Centre at Department of Civil Aviation, and the media centre at the Brunei International Airport, established specifically to handle crises such as aviation disasters.
He also paid a visit to the Royal Brunei Crisis Management Centre which is designed to provide support to families in the event of an emergency.
The Sultan ended his visit at the site of the commercial aircraft crash in Kg Panchor, Mengkubau, where Fire and Rescue, police, military and medical personnel were on hand to respond to the simulated scenario.
The exercise involves multi-agency coordination and is aimed at improving the ability of government agencies to respond to security risks and challenges, said Energy Minister Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar, who also chairs the National Security Committee.
“The objective is to test our system across the board – our response to crisis, our response to disaster,” he said. “In this exercise we are more interested in how multiple agencies work together to respond to an incident… Quite honestly there are quite a lot of lessons learned. We need to go back to the drawing board.”
The minister added that His Majesty had taken a keen interest in the security exercise: “We are very fortunate to have His Majesty on the ground itself throughout the exercise, guiding us and giving us encouragement, and for a leader that is very exceptional.”
During an afternoon press conference, members of the National Security Committee briefed media on the long-term objectives of the exercise.
“In the matter of three days, we are looking into three or four kinds of threats. The air crash is just one of them,” said Dato Paduka Hj Hamdan Hj Abu Bakar, permanent secretary (Security and Enforcement) at the Prime Minister’s Office.
“It is our duty to make sure the country continues to be stable and the exercises are to make sure we are all well prepared for any eventuality.”
After the completion of the exercise today, the committee will meet with a team of consultants from the United Kingdom to assess the performance of the multi-agency effort.
“(We need to) identify if there are any capability gaps in term of adhering to existing SOPs (stan-dard operating procedures), or whether we need to further refine some of the SOPs,” said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Md Yusof.
Deputy RBAF Commander First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit, who also serves as the executive director of the exercise, added that the event was the largest national exercise Brunei had ever staged, designed to test and streamline national security structures.
“The whole exercise is to test every level of decision-making, from the top of the strategic level and operational level. For you to trigger strategic decision-making, the scenario has to be big, it has to be really significant.”

His Majesty — upon landing at the helipad located behind the Municipal Field at approximately 10am — was greeted by hundreds of students lined along the short route leading to the venue.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, HRH Prince Hj Jefri Bolkiah and HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik.
Kicking off yesterday’s celebration was a tightly contested tug-of-war final which saw Brunei-Muara defeat Tutong in two rounds.
A total of 769 students, youth and residents from inner, rural Belait then took centre stage in a four-part performance themed ‘The monarch who inspires a visionary generation’.
Belait District Officer Hj Haris Othman said in his welcome speech that the district’s theme is a fitting representation of His Majesty’s reign, which has placed a high priority on creating a visionary generation that will be able to face today’s challenges.
“His Majesty’s reign has brought peace, prosperity and safety, enjoyed by all Bruneians. Today’s performance is aimed at reflecting this and to showcase the future generation’s undying and unwavering dedication to uphold the monarchy,” he said.
Performers used a blend of poetry, storytelling, dance and song to bring the theme to life across the first three segments before the stage cleared for the grand finale.
The finale saw karate, silat and wushu exponents showcasing their physical prowess while volunteers of the National Service Programme built a human tower with a flag bearer atop waving a flag reading ‘Visionary Generation’.
Following the finale, His Majesty descended from the Royal Dias to the field to greet and mingle with the performers.
He then proceeding to tour over 30 booths housing all sectors of the Belait community.
Ethnic minorities expressed their delight in having their own booths as they waited patiently for their turn to meet His Majesty and the royal entourage.
“This is our first time participation in meet-and-greet as an association and we are thankful to the Belait District Office for providing us a dedicated space for us to meet the people’s beloved monarch in person,” said President of the Malayali Association Renjit Gopalakrishnan.
The president said the Malayali association members — comprising Malayalam speaking people from the state of Kerala in India — wished to express their utmost thanks to His Majesty for providing a peaceful, stable environment to work and live in.
The booths also included those from private companies, uniformed personnel, associations and kampungs from inner, rural Belait.
Yesterday’s event concluded with His Majesty being escorted to Dewan Santap for a cake-cutting ceremony with committee members and prominent officials.
Brunei-Muara will host the final meet-and-greet today at the Taman Hj Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien.

This video showcases the following:
- Gulintangan (Brunei traditional music ensemble)
- Traditional dance
- Traditional craft-making (Kain Jong Sarat, Tudung Dulang) portrayed by the song and performances
- Culture and history portrayed by traditional folk song performance such as Umak Ruma, Padian, Adai-Adai, Anding.
Against the tide of time (and globalisation), traditional performing arts have become a very important medium to convey and preserve the rich culture, tradition and history of a country. This was the case for many generations as prevalent with the folk songs, dances, poetry and music that is in abundance within the region.
In the case of Sekolah Tinggi Perempuan Raja Isteri (STPRI), we are doing our best to preserve and promote these valuable treasures of the country by actively preparing some students into performing these arts for inter-school competitions, as well as various national events (when needed) and also private events such as wedding and corporate dinners.
By performing (and also observing) these events, students not only learned a lot about their culture, tradition and history but also get to understand themselves better as a journey in the arts may always lead to a journey into within oneself. It is also possible to integrate the school’s core values i.e. Commitment, Responsibility and Respect (CR2) together with other inter-personal skills such as teamwork and communications. This also helps to realise the ministry’s mission in providing holistic education to achieve the fullest potential of all and most importantly instilling a strong Bruneian identity within the students.
Currently the school has an active group of musicians, dancers, singers and also poets and have just recently won 1st place in the inter-schools traditional gulintangan (music) contest. The whole group have performed together a lot of pieces which depicts many aspects of cultures such as below:
1. Kain-Jong Sarat – A song and dance about the traditional woven handicraft of Brunei
2. Tudung- Dulang – A song and dance about the another hand-crafted traditional item, i.e. food cover
3. Padian, Adai-Adai – Songs and dances about the lives of different people (merchant on small boats selling daily items, fishermen) living in the water village
4. Kampong Ayer – song about the water village – description and also hope
5. Anding – a song and dance which was a remind of the animistic past of Brunei
6. Umak Ruma – a tribal song and dance to celebrate moving into a new house
7. Laila Menchanai – a song about the beloved wife of Sultan Bolkiah (the 5th Sultan) whom died together with the Sultan (sort of like Romeo and Juliet)
For the video, the school will just make quick examples of these pieces and most significantly will concentrate more on the music ensemble (gulintangan) and the dance group in terms of the skills learned and personal growth from the exposures and experiences of learning together.
This video was produced by SEKOLAH TINGGI PEREMPUAN RAJA ISTERI, Brunei Darussalam.

This travel video showcases the top 12 temples worth visiting in Southeast Asia including Buddhist temples, Taoist temples and Hindu temples just to name a few. Whether you're visiting Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar (Burma), Singapore or Brunei you'll see some magnificent temples. The following is a list of the best 12 temples we highly recommend you visit in SE Asia while traveling:
1) Angkor Wat Temple
Angkor Wat temple is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia and is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu God Vishnu built by a Cambodian King who helped unify the country and to also spread the Khmer influence across Southeast Asia.
2) Wat Arun Temple
Wat Arun temple is located in Bangkok, Thailand. This is the Temple of Dawn located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river.
3) Banteay Srei Temple
Banteay Srei is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This happens to be a Hindu temple and it is dedicated to the God Shiva. Most of the temples of Angkor were commissioned by powerful Kings but this temple in particular was not. It was commissioned by a Brahman, which makes it quite unique. There are many temples to choose from but this one in particular Banteay Srei is considered to be the crown jewel of Angkorian art because it has some of the most exquisite and intricate carvings.
4) Kek Lok Si Temple
Kek Lok Si is located in Air Itam (George Town) Penang, Malaysia.
Kek Lok Si temple, also known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, is the biggest Buddhist temple in all of Southeast Asia. The temple complex combines Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese rituals.
For anyone who would like to come you can take the bus 201, 203 and 204 from the Komplex Komptar - basically the main mall from George Town and it is about a 40 minute ride to here.
5) Batu Caves Temple
The Batu Caves are located 13 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As an important Hindu shrine the Batu Caves takes its name from the Batu River and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. To get to the top you'll have to climb two hundred and seventy two steps. You'll notice lots of macaques or little monkeys.
6) Preah Khan Temple
Preah Khan is located in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia as part of the Temples of Angkor. The temple means 'sacred sword' and this temple is believed to have been a University that housed over a 1000 teachers. It has that kind of eerie feeling to it similar to Ta Prohm but without all of the crowds. You can be walking through and you feel like you're going through a maze. It is really quite fascinating. People who have come to this temple have picked up some rocks and stacked them into a little formation and I do believe this has a special meaning in Buddhism.
7) Golden Mount Temple
Golden Mount Temple is located in Bangkok, Thailand. You can find yourself having some of the best views of Bangkok from up here. It is normally not crowded; however, on a special Buddhist holiday it is packed with people - especially local Thais.
8) Doi Suthep Temple
Doi Suthep Temple is located in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Located on top of a mountain it is best reached by taking a red songthaew where you can have the best view of Chiang Mai on a clear day.
9) Angkor Thom Temple (Bayon)
Bayon, also known as Angkor Thom Temple is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia an is part of the Temples of Angkor. The most fascinating thing about Bayon are the cold faces that have a hint of a smile. This massive complex has 54 towers with 216 faces on them. You can also visit the Terrace of the Elephants which is 350 meters long.
10) Cave Pagoda Temple
Cave Pagoda is located in Vietnam along the Mekong Delta nearby the Vietnamese - Cambodian border in the far south near Chao Doc. To reach the summit you need to climb 400 steps and chances are you'll be sweating profusely. This temple has beautiful views. It is just rice fields as far as you can see.
11) Ta Prohm Temple
Ta Prohm Temple is located in Siem Reap, Cambodia in the Angkor region. Ta Prohm is a Buddhist temple where the jungle just dominates the architecture. Indiana Jones would feel right at home here at this temple. In fact, it was used for the set of Tomb Raider staring Angelina Joli. It is decaying and it is crumbling but it is a great place to explore. This is an example of nature taking over the temple.

About the video.
A Super successful first joint seminar with Punong Guro Fred Evrard, founder of Kali Majapahit and Bruneian Martial Art – Silat Suffian Bela Diri in Bethisy Saint Pierre, France on the weekend of 24th and 25th January 2015 hosted by Christophe Schlachter and his team.
Great job to Christophe Schlachter and his team, and Guro Lila Evrard for organizing the major parts of the event.
Thank you to Sebastian Ribac (SSBD French Group Leader) for helping to support the event and being my English to French interpreter.
Thank you to everyone who traveled from all over France and from Belgium to the countryside of Bethisy Saint Pierre to support this event.
Thank you to Radley Ramirez driving down from Germany and for being the cameraman.
Thank you to Badradin Oulali for his patience in assisting me instruct the seminar, without whom I am not able to present SSBD to its potential.
On my arrival into Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport I was welcomed by both Punong Guro Fred and Guro Lila and we drove about 50 minutes outside of Paris to a quiet village in the country side of Bethisy Saint Pierre where the seminar will be held. We got to spend time staying in a bed and breakfast accommodation for the whole weekend for the duration of the seminar. Our first night we went out for dinner at a Moroccan restaurant as recommended by Christophe Schlachter. After the seminar, on the monday I was invited and enjoyed a traditional family lunch at Punong Guro Fred’s mother’s apartment in Paris before making my way home. As recommended by Punong Guro Fred, Guro Lila brought me to this small little bakery just around the corner of their apartment called Max Poilane, a world famous French bakery where people across Paris would travel and other 5 star restaurants go to get their bread. I got to taste their lemon tart and croissant. Lunch at Punong Guro’s Mother’s was just delicious, she was ranked highly by one of the food magazine in Paris for her desert, and that says a lot. I also got to be the first Bruneian to help make Aligot a specialty dish from the a region in France where Punong Guro’s parents are from. The talks and the laughters we had this weekend is priceless, I really enjoyed spending quality time with the Evrards.
Thank you everyone for this amazing experience.

Phnom Penh is the Capital of Cambodia, which is a member state of ASEAN.
ASEAN = Association of Southeast Asian Nations
ASEAN is a political and economic organisation of ten Southeast Asian countries. It was formed on 8 August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Since then, membership has expanded to include Brunei,Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma), and Vietnam. Its aims include accelerating economic growth, social progress, and socio-cultural evolution among its members, protection of regional peace and stability, and opportunities for member countries to resolve differences peacefully.
ASEAN covers a land area of 4.4 million square kilometres, 3% of the total land area of the Earth. ASEAN territorial waters cover an area about three times larger than its land counterpart. The member countries have a combined population of approximately 625 million people, 8.8% of the world's population. In 2015, the organisation's combined nominal GDP had grown to more than US$2.6 trillion. If ASEAN were a single entity, it would rank as the seventh largest economy in the world, behind the US, China, Japan, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
Purpose
As set out in the ASEAN Declaration, the aims and purposes of ASEAN are:
- To accelerate economic growth, social progress, and cultural development in the region
- To promote regional peace and stability
- To promote collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common interest
- To provide assistance to each other in the form of training and research facilities
- To collaborate for the better utilisation of agriculture and industry to raise the living standards of the people
- To promote Southeast Asian studies
- To maintain close, beneficial co-operation with existing international organisations with similar aims and purposes
History
Foundation
ASEAN was prefigured by an organisation called the Association of Southeast Asia (ASA), a group consisting of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand that was formed in 1961. ASEAN itself was inaugurated on 8 August 1967, when foreign ministers of five countries; Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, signed the ASEAN Declaration, more commonly known as the Bangkok Declaration.
The creation of ASEAN was motivated by a common fear of communism, and a thirst for economic development.
ASEAN grew when Brunei Darussalam became its sixth member on 7 January 1984, barely a week after gaining independence.
Expansion and further integration
ASEAN achieved greater cohesion in the mid-1970s following the changed balance of power in Southeast Asia after the end of the Vietnam War. The region’s dynamic economic growth during the 1970s strengthened the organisation, enabling ASEAN to adopt a unified response to Vietnam’s invasion of Cambodia in 1979. ASEAN's first summit meeting, held in Bali, Indonesia, in 1976, resulted in an agreement on several industrial projects and the signing of a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, and a Declaration of Concord. The end of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union at the end of the 1980s allowed ASEAN countries to exercise greater political independence in the region, and in the 1990s ASEAN emerged as a leading voice on regional trade and security issues.
On 28 July 1995, Vietnam became ASEAN's seventh member. Laos and Myanmar (Burma) joined two years later on 23 July 1997. Cambodia was to have joined together with Laos and Burma, but entry was delayed due to the country's internal political struggle. The country later joined on 30 April 1999, following the stabilisation of its government.
In 1990, Malaysia proposed the creation of an East Asia Economic Caucus composed of the members of ASEAN as well as the People's Republic of China, Japan, and South Korea, with the intention of counterbalancing the growing influence of the United States in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and in the Asian region as a whole. The proposal failed, however, because of heavy opposition from the US and Japan. Member states continued to work for further integration and ASEAN Plus Three was created in 1997.
In 1992, the Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEPT) scheme was adopted as a schedule for phasing out tariffs, and as a goal to increase the "region's competitive advantage as a production base geared for the world market". This law would act as the framework for the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA). AFTA is an agreement by member nations concerning local manufacturing in ASEAN countries. The AFTA agreement was signed on 28 January 1992 in Singapore.

Rising early on the third and final day of our Mekong Delta tour, we boarded a small vessel to visit some nearby floating markets / homes, an enormous catfish fish farm and a Cham Muslim village community.
After two rather disappointing days to start our tour we had higher expectations that the third day might be more interesting as we approached a more remote frontier section of the Mekong Delta.
The floating homes and markets were fascinating but apparently only erected in recent years which was really surprising for me to hear. In the future, I'd love to do a proper week long home stay on a floating village where I can have the opportunity to try my hand at fishing and other tasks associated with the daily life of people who live on water.
The catfish fish farm wasn't as impressive aside from the feeding sessions where fish splashed furiously over the morsels of food scattered in the water. I ended up getting splashed along with others along with us on the tour.
Our final stop (which happened to be my favorite) was visiting the Cham Muslim community.
With locals adorning sarongs and white prayer caps it showcased a minority in Vietnam not often visibly noticeable in larger urban centers.
It honestly felt as though we weren't in Vietnam; it's surreal how remote communities, fishing villages and hill-tribes have retained their culture and unique way of life over the years.
Moreover, the locals were an incredibly outgoing lot - enjoying smiling, waving, say hello and posing for photos. I ended up taking more travel images while visiting this village than I did at any other point of the tour.
The architecture of the homes was equally fascinating as it reminded me of the kampung-style wooden stilt houses I've seen in before in Brunei.
Overall, this was a great start to our morning before our impossibly long bus ride back to Saigon:

Visiting Kampung Ayer with my brother-in-law Amin Rambli on the 9th August 2015.
Kampong Ayer, or the Water Village (Malay: Kampung Air) is an area of Brunei's capital city Bandar Seri Begawan that is situated over Brunei Bay. 39,000 people live in the Water Village. This represents roughly ten percent of the nation's total population. All of the Water Village buildings are constructed on stilts above the Brunei River.
People have lived in Kampong Ayer for over 1300 years. Antonio Pigafetta dubbed it the "Venice of the East" when the fleet of Ferdinand Magellan visited in 1521. The district is a culturally important part of Brunei that preserves the nation's river dwelling origins. According to geography professor Abdul Aziz of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, this is the largest and most famous water settlement of Southeast Asia. "It was historically the very core of Brunei and one of the most important centres of trade in Borneo.
As par of His Majesty The Sultan of Brunei's plans to improve the standard of living for the population in Kampong Ayer, The Sultan decreed to build modern, two story stilt house made of concrete in the center of the Kampong Ayer around the years of 2013-2014 and the project continue on. These houses would be given to the people in need of new house, and not wishing to live on land.
Please enjoy the tour of the water village.

Asian Street Food - Eating Kuy Teav Breakfast - Youtube
Kuy teav (Khmer: គុយទាវ, from simplified Chinese: 粿条; traditional Chinese: 粿條; also hủ tiếu in Vietnamese, and kuai tiao or guai tiao in Thai) is a noodle soup ...
Kuy teav (Khmer: គុយទាវ, from simplified Chinese: 粿条; traditional Chinese: 粿條; also hủ tiếu in Vietnamese, and kuai tiao or guai tiao in Thai) is a noodle soup consisting of rice noodles with pork stock and toppings. Kuy teav is generally thought to have originated with the ethnic Chinese groups that settled in Southeast Asian countries. A popular breakfast dish in Cambodia, Southern Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, kuy teav can be found at marketplace (phsar) stalls, roadside vendors, restaurants and in shophouses across the country, and is highly regarded for its clear and soothing broth and dazzling array of herbs, aromatics and other garnishes and condiments.
Etymology
The Khmer word kuy teav refers to flat rice noodles that are cut to various widths including the wide shahe fen; this term also refers to the dish. This word is ultimately derived from kóe-tiâu (粿條) of the Min Nan dialects of China. It is also seen as cognates in Southeast Asia with hủ tiếu in Vietnamese and kuai tiao (ก๋วยเตี๋ยว) in Thai and kway teow in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
In Khmer, kuy teav is properly pronounced IPA: [kuj t̪ieʋ] but is often elided to IPA: [kə t̪ieʋ] (romanized as ka tieu, ka teav, etc.) due to the sesquisyllabic nature of the Khmer language.
Preparation
Kuy teav is prepared with partially dry thin squarish rice noodles cooked by quickly immersing the noodles in boiling water. The noodles are then strained, placed into a bowl, and moistened with nutty, caramelised garlic oil. After dressing with a sticky brown liquid made of oyster sauce, soy sauce and a pinch of sugar, the bowl is then filled with a clear broth made from pork bones, dried squid, and sugar, and seasoned with a bit of fish sauce. Then the meat toppings are added, which may include an assembly of different types of meat, such as pork loaf, minced pork, pork belly, duck, seafood or offal. Availability is the main factor in what toppings are used in kuy teav; some versions can be quite humble and basic, using only some ground pork and perhaps some dried shrimp for protein, while others can be more time consuming and extravagant. Lastly, when the dish is presented at the table, the diner will then add a number of garnishes and aromatics to customise the dish in accordance with his or her preferences.

We can all remember being young children, getting a sunburn, and out parents slathering the red areas with Aloe Vera- and we can all remember the immediate relief we felt once this soothing plant touched our skin. Due to its potential benefits of treating health conditions and topical lesions, the succulent plant has attracted a lot of attention lately. The use of Aloe Vera can be traced back to over 6000 years ago in ancient Egypt. Early Egyptians considered the Aloe Vera a plant of immortality and used it for curing battle wounds, burns, blisters and various other conditions.

Brunei is a tiny nation on the island of Borneo, in 2 distinct sections surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea. It's known for its beaches and biodiverse rainforest, much of it protected within reserves. Crossing the Brunei Border took us farther than my producer and I had hoped. And at the midway point, when we were driving down the wrong way down the highway, coursing at speeds of more than 100-miles-per-hour, and blasting through red lights, all to catch the bus that had left us in BSB, we realized that we in for more than we'd sign on for.

Travel video about destination Brunei.
Brunei Darussalam is a tiny sultanate in the north of the island of Borneo located on the shores of the South China Sea and is surrounded by the Malayan federal states of Sabah and Sarawak. The capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, is like something from an exotic fantasy.
The splendour of the mosque of Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudin is a captivating sight. This Islamic landmark is also a symbol of great wealth and was built in 1958 and was named after the father of the present sultan. Snow white Italian Carrara marble was used as building material, with granite from Shanghai. It commemorates the founder of modern Brunei.
On a classic longboat powered by outboard motor, we travel on the Brunei River and are soon surrounded by mangrove brush. Tropical thunderstorms and monsoon rain create dense vegetation and the ensuing humidity produces lush flora.
At the junction of two muddy-grey waterways of the Brunei River is an historic location, Kampung Ayer, a water village. Each building and adjoining pathway is built on posts yet there is both an electricity and drinking water supply. Plants decorate the terraces, and TV aerials are everywhere and it has a population of around thirty thousand.
Brunei is a land that has almost lost its history while moving into modern times. It is a country that has grown amazingly wealthy since its gas has hissed and its oil has spluttered from deep below the ground. Liquid gold - Allah be praised!

I take a tour of the Brunei Night Market with local lady, Izzy. She shows me round the market sampling local delicacies for our dinner.
The Night Market (Gadong Pasar Malam) is open year round from 4pm-11pm and is located in the Gadong Fish Market parking lot.
This was Izzy's first time in front of a camera..what a star!

G'day, I'm Durianrider from Adelaide, South Australia. I first became a personal trainer back in 1999 and have trained with some of the fittest people on the planet. Ive learned a lot along the way and I run the largest vegan forum in the world with Freelee the Banana Girl (http://30bananasaday.com), and I bust my ass every single day to help people help themselves while saving the animals and the planet at the same time. I'm a high carb, plant-based vegan cyclist who gives no fucks about saying what needs to be said.
Every year I go to Thailand and run the RawTill4 Thai Fruit Festival in Chiang Mai, Thailand. It's the world's largest FREE vegan festival. Just turn up and learn and train with the best. Eat unlimited ripe fruit in Thailand and enjoy incredible Thai vegan food for CHEAP! http://rawtill4thaifestival.com

Brunei is a tiny nation on the island of Borneo, in 2 distinct sections surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea. It's known for its beaches and biodiverse rainforest, much of it protected within reserves. The Ulu Temburong National Park, accessed by longboat, affords canopy walks, glimpses of traditional longhouse culture and endemic fauna and flora, such as the proboscis monkey.

And at the midway point, when we were driving down the wrong way down the highway, coursing at speeds of more than 100-miles-per-hour, and blasting through red lights, all to catch the bus that had left us in BSB, we realized that we in for more than we'd sign on for.

Travel video about destination Borneo in Malaysia.
Borneo is the third largest island in the world and the northern region that comprises Sarawak and Sabah has been part of the Malaysian Federation since 1963. A hidden paradise, mysterious and unknown. We begin our journey in Sarawak in the north west of the island, in the capital, Kuching. The Sarawak River divides the city in two and on one of the banks are the buildings of Kampung Boyan, an old water town. Situated on a hill is Fort Margarita that dates back to 1841. We visit a village of the Bidayum Tribe and to the border of the South Indonesian section of the island. The Bidayum live in traditional long houses and survive from agriculture and river fishing. The long houses measure up to a hundred and fifty metres in length and are inhabited by several families. Between Sarawak and Sabah is the tiny sultanate of Brunei Darussalm whose capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, looks like something from an exotic fantasy. In the north east of Sabah is the majestic Mount Kinabalu, at more than thirteen thousand feet above sea level the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. Borneo is a country of natural wonder, full of adventure. A land of head hunters, mysterious cultures and exotic wildlife and an island far off the main tourist trail. A veritable hidden paradise set amid the South China Sea.
