Lost Treasure of the Templars
Jamie Theakston sets out to uncover the remarkable real story of one the greatest treasure quests in modern history and asks if the Knights Templar hid their treasure on an uninhabited island in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia? For over two hundred years, adventurers and researchers have dug deep into the mysterious site hoping to find huge quantities of gold and Holy Relics looted from Jerusalem. In the early nineties a major expedition dug to 33 metres and hit a wooden roof to a large chamber, but within days the chamber was flooded with sea water. Were they potentially going to hit gold or is the treasure buried elsewhere?

In the second episode of The Dinner Bell, Julia links up with her boyfriend Chris as he accompanies—and plays drums for—the Baltimore-based band Beach House on their cross-Canadian Northern Exposure tour. When she sees that the band's month-long stretch lands them in Nova Scotia over Canadian Thanksgiving, she packs her bags full of kitchen equipment, à la some kind of down-and-out Mary Poppins, and heads north.
Hitting the ground running, she is shown the lay of the land (and sea) by passionate locals who help her source some of the area’s best ingredients for an elaborate meal. Forager Jonathan Newell (whose voice is a dead ringer for Friday Night Lights' Coach Taylor) kindly gives Julia a tour of a little-known culinary hideaway. For the freshest shellfish Halifax had to offer, she turns to Dave Adler, head of the community-supported fishery Off The Hook, who—along with his young son Noah—leads her on a successful mussel hunt through the back coves of Lower Prospect. The final stop: downtown treasure Ratinaud—for, as any good host can tell you, kicking a dinner off with a well-stocked charcuterie and cheese platter buys you more quality time with your guests.
Finally, after a day of relaxation and recovery in the oceanside retreat, the friends all sit down to a recuperating feast of wood-smoked wild mussels, roasted pumpkin and turnip greens, and homemade wintergreen ice cream sundaes with walnut shortbread.

The Celtic spirit is alive and well in Cape Breton—watch for signs along the road announcing tonight's community ceilidh, Gaelic for party.

Halifax, the capital of the province of Nova Scotia forms together with Dartmouth and Bedford a coherent settlement area for well over a quarter million people. Dartmouth and Halifax are separated by the harbor and since the mid 18th century connected by a ferry.
In addition, two major toll bridges span the bay.
Since time immemorial, Halifax is a major port and thus it is not surprising that the largest military installation in Canada, the base of the Atlantic Fleet and the headquarters of the Coast Guard are settled here.
In the center of the harbor front you see the restored brick buildings and warehouses, the so-called Historic Properties. Together with the disused harbor buildings, they serve today as pubs as well as shopping malls, museums and galleries for a solvent customers. The exterior of the whole complex is true to the original. The Historic Properties are a much-visited attraction for tourists. Here one can watch the ships as well as glass blowers at work.
In the shopping arcades, the usual souvenirs are offered to the tourists. Those who seek patiently can find some rarities.
Always present is the emblem of the town, the bell tower set up at the beginning of the 19th century in front of the citadel on behalf of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. It should teach the citizens more punctuality.
The casino with an attached hotel next to the Historic Properties dominates the northern part of the harbor front.
The historic Alexander Keith Brewery, another masterfully restored part of the leisure mile dominates the southern part.
Sometimes you can see the sailing ship Bluenose II in the harbor. In the early 20th century, the original Bluenose held the international fishing trophy as the fastest North American sailing ship in its class for eighteen years. During World War II sailing ships lost their meaning; the Bluenose at first still served as a cargo ship and sank in 1946 in the West Indies. In the 60s, the Bluenose II was rebuilt to the original in Lunenburg and is now immortalized on the Canadian 10 cent coin.
Weather permitting, you can take a city tour with one of the original amphibious vehicles, the Harbour Hopper.

The Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island is one of the most beautiful scenic roads in North America.
During our journey the weather in Nova Scotia has changed. Instead of warm sun, we experience cold stormy rain. At the sandy beaches in Long Point Provincial park the wind sweeps us the sand over the skin. The weather nevertheless matched our ideas of Cape Breton.
A very well-developed scenic road, named after the explorer Giovanni Caboto, leads around the northern part of Cape Breton Island. From distinctive viewpoints you have an excellent view across the large bays and rugged coastline.
Inspired by the broad area of the country, Canada lays out its streets rarely as winding roads, so they are wide and slightly curved resulting in significant inclines and declines. The Cabot Trail is probably not quite harmless at snowfall.
Those who have time, should walk through the wildlife-rich and scenically very beautiful Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
During our visit, a large cruise liner just docks in the port of Sydney.
We drive back in the direction of the Halifax. The Canso Causeway is the only car connection between Cape Breton and the mainland. With 1.4 km of dam length and 66 m of depth it is regarded as the deepest dam bridge of the world.

Marie Anne and Louis Payzant had high hopes for a new future as they left a comfortable life on the island of Jersey and sailed with their children across the Atlantic to a new settlement on the shores of Nova Scotia in June 1753. Both had already fled religious persecution in their native France. In this fascinating and true account of Louis & Marie Anne Payzant, author Linda Layton has pieced together the couple's heartbreaking sense of loss, their struggles and deaths set against the backdrop of one of the most chaotic times in the history of Europe and North America. The author is the great-great-great-great granddaughter of Marie Anne and Louis. She has spent years researching and traveling in a quest for facts about her ancestors The book will appeal to enthusiasts of early Canadian history of Nova Scotia, Quebec and Acadia as well as readers who love a great adventure story as it focuses on one woman caught in the religious struggle between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism, and the colonial struggle between our two founding cultures.

The Nova Scotia Underwater UFO Sighting (DOCUMENTARY)
On the night of 04 October 1967, shortly after 11:00 PM, a UFO some 60 feet in diameter was seen to hover over the water near the tiny fishing village of Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia. The UFO, which displayed four bright lights that flashed in sequence, tilted to a 45-degree angle and descended rapidly towards the water's surface. Upon impact, there was a bright flash and an explosive roar.

Upon impact, there was a bright flash and an explosive roar.
The Shag Harbour UFO crash/retrieval may well prove to be the most important UFO case ever to come out of Canada. It has already been compared to the Roswell Incident, though it has one important element that Roswell does not have -- documentation.
Even those who know the story are surprised by the detailed data from the witnesses, the RCMP personnel and the hunt for a UFO that went undersea in a harbor; new testimony of covert recovery operations leads one to ask, "Who has the retrieved UFO now?"
This Documentary goes in search of The Nova Scotia Underwater UFO Sighting, one of the few UFO documentaries ever based on the shag harbour ufo sighting. Watch the full documentary here and if you like this show, please like and subscribe for more full documentaries.

The Veterans Train was 30 cars long with 3 locomotives and left Halifax as VIA#15 on 9 November 2005. It carried veterans and friends to Ottawa for the Remembrance Day ceremonies. The train occupied 2 platforms at Halifax station and after boarding the passengers, the two parts of the Ocean had to be combined. We see the veterans being greeted, the train being joined and the full train at Young Avenue, near Shubenacadie and passing Debert.
The train returned to Halifax as VIA#14 on 13 November 2005 and had to be split into two parts before it could enter the station. The lead locomotive 6404 was detached and run around the train which was foul of the switch and had to be moved forward. VIA 6404 was then coupled to the rear. After a brake test the train was split and the front portion was pulled into the station while the rear portion was pushed into the adjacent platform. We hear some of the communications between crew members as this 30 minute maneuver is carried out in the dark.
In 2006 a War Brides train was run to Halifax as train#14 leaving Montreal on 6 November 2006. The train was 20 cars long and had three locomotives (one of which was to replace a defective locomotive on another train). We see the crowds at Westchester greeting the train and then the train near Shubenacadie and at China Town.
The train returned on 9 November 2006 in very wet weather as the Troop train and is seen from the Young Avenue Bridge in Halifax.
