7 days across Iraq / How people live
People, today, I'll show you how people live in the country where during last 50 years wars followed one another. How does it feel like when you look out
of your window and see bullet holes everywhere?
Can you get used to mined cars and suicide bombers? To your kids playing football next to destroyed ISIS base?
Meanwhile, people in Iraq are incredibly friendly. When they find out you're a foreigner
and speak Russian, the capital dwellers will certainly offer to pay for your cafe bill. And in small distant towns, they'll greet you as dearest guests.
Meet the local star, Iraqi Rambo. He's the most famous fighter against terrorists.

Welcome to Baghdad, Iraq one of my new favourite cities, yes really! It is my second day here and in this video I venture around new Baghdad showing you the luxury sides before heading to the old city. The streets of Old Baghdad go back hundreds of years, so let's go talk to the locals there. Safe to say they are not very fond of Americans....

FRONTLINE traces how decisions by the Bush and Obama administrations contributed to ISIS bursting onto the world stage, seizing territory in Iraq more than two years after President Obama pulled U.S. troops out. (Aired 2014)

In the 2004 documentary “Losing Iraq”, FRONTLINE filmmakers Michael Kirk, Jim Gilmore and Mike Wiser explore the key political stories behind the Iraq war’s defining moments: from the toppling of the statue of Saddam Hussein, through the violent rise of ISIS.
Now, it's peaceful in big cities, and tourists enjoy visiting them as some districts are
as pleasurable as Dubai, for instance. The malls are not any worse than ours. Many women don't wear hijabs. The atmosphere is secular.
But some areas are totally forbidden for tourists and foreigners. Because they are still looking for cutthroats hiding in the mountains. But they'll make an exception for us. Right now we're heading to the front line. To the dividing line where the terrorists' checkpoints used to be.
This is Lyadov, and today, I'm in Iraq!

Mandatory Iraq
The Kingdom of Iraq under British Administration or Mandatory Iraq was created in 1921 following the 1920 Iraqi Revolt against the proposed British Mandate of Mesopotamia, and enacted via the 1922 Anglo-Iraqi Treaty.
Faisal ibn Husayn, who had been proclaimed King of Syria by a Syrian National Congress in Damascus in March 1920, was ejected by the French in July of the same year. Faisal was then granted by the British the territory of Iraq, to rule it as a kingdom, with the British Royal Air Force retaining certain military control, though de facto; the territory remained under British administration until 1932.

Mandatory Fun Christmas Party in Iraq
Nobody wanted to be there, everyone was miserable, I was on the gift wrapping crew, all the gifts I wrapped were crap, they told us to wrap at least one good thing with a couple crappy things, so it wouldn't be so bad, after they seen the gifts I was wrapping, I'd put some tampons, cigarettes and playing cards in a little box and write a male soldier's name on it that I knew didn't smoke or gamble, if I knew what type of music you hated you would get a CD of it, I was specifically going through all the stuff looking for the crappiest things I could find, I was warned about not taping little stuffed animals together like they were humping, but I did it anyway and when the soldier unwrapped it the sergeant who had told me not to do it seen it, he got soooo mad, if it wouldn't have been x-mas...

Meet Iran's gay mullah forced to flee the country - BBC News
In Iran, homosexuality is banned and punishable by execution under its strict code of sharia, or Islamic law. In a country dominated by the religious class, being gay is taboo, and especially among the establishment. One Iranian gay cleric, who conducted gay weddings in secret, was forced to flee the country, and has been threatened with death. BBC Persian's Ali Hamedani reports.

The Syrian refugees turning to sex to survive - BBC News
Lebanon has long been known for being the sex tourism capital of the Middle East. For years people from around the region have flocked to its “super night clubs” in the hope of meeting and sleeping with women. But the influx of Syrian refugees has pushed more people into the sex industry, with many Syrians turning to prostitution to survive. Benjamin Zand from BBC Pop Up meets Syrian refugees who say they had no other choice but to become prostitutes, and finds out how European women in "super night clubs" are being locked up, by law, everyday. How "burn pits" in Iraq and Afghanistan may have put veterans at risk
Over 1.5 million American troops were deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan between 2001 and 2011. Many returned with visible scars of war -- but for some, their injury is hidden. At some of the military bases throughout those regions, waste materials were disposed of in giant so-called "burn pits," and breathing fumes from those fires appears to have damaged the health of countless veterans. Barry Petersen reports.

Nobody wanted to be there, everyone was miserable, I was on the gift wrapping crew, all the gifts I wrapped were crap, they told us to wrap at least one good thing with a couple crappy things, so it wouldn't be so bad, after they seen the gifts I was wrapping, I'd put some tampons, cigarettes and playing cards in a little box and write a male soldier's name on it that I knew didn't smoke or gamble, if I knew what type of music you hated you would get a CD of it, I was specifically going through all the stuff looking for the crappiest things I could find, I was warned about not taping little stuffed animals together like they were humping, but I did it anyway and when the soldier unwrapped it the sergeant who had told me not to do it seen it, he got soooo mad, if it wouldn't have been x-mas he would've had me go outside and roll around in the freezing cold mud for a couple hours, if I was lucky.

Over 1.5 million American troops were deployed to Iraq and
Afghanistan between 2001 and 2011. Many returned with visible scars of war -- but for some, their injury is hidden. At some of the military bases throughout those regions, waste materials were disposed of in giant so-called "burn pits," and breathing fumes from those fires appears to have damaged the health of countless veterans. Barry Petersen reports.

Of all the different “Cradles of Civilization” around the world, perhaps no other is as important and influential to the development of human civilization as Mesopotamia. Literally translated from Sumerian to mean “the land between the rivers,” Mesopotamia refers to the valleys and plains in between and around the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, which are located in modern-day Iraq. Directly surrounding Mesopotamia, stretching as far west as Israel and Egypt and all the way east to modern-day Iran, is the Fertile Crescent, named for the remarkable fertility of the land that made this region an ideal place for human civilization to prosper.
This video covers the Sumerians, Assyrian history, Ur, Babylon, Gilgamesh, Hammurabi and the Persian Empire.

Hello friends! Welcome to a new Happy Learning video.
Today, we’re going to learn about of the first and most important of human civilisations, today, we’re going to learn about… Mesopotamia!
The word Mesopotamia means “between two rivers” in greek! So this civilisation was named because it was situated between two rivers: Tigris and Euphrates.
Within these fertile lands, the first ever city-states were born, four thousand years before Christ! The most important cities were Ur, Urk and Lagash.
These city-states were independent from each other, like small different countries. They were surrounded by a great wall to protect themselves. The Ziggurat, a temple where priests lived, was built in the center of the city. Here, they controlled the trade, agriculture and taxes. The supreme priest had the city's political and religious power
Agricultural fields spread across these cities, which were traversed by irrigation channels that used the river’s water to water cultivations and animals would drink. Most of the city’s citizens were farmers and shepherds, but there were also artesans that sold their own products at the markets.
Because of their well-being, both cities began to grow, but so did the conflicts between them due to the control of land.
These battles arose military leaders that little by little turned into monarchs, Kings!
Between the years three thousand a one thousand B.C., Mesopotamian lands were conquered by various towns or cities. The first one was the Akkadian Empire, then the Babylonian Empire, followed by the Assyrian Empire and finally the Persian Empire.
So we’ve got to know part of Mesopotamia’s history, but do you know why it has been such an important civilisation for humanity?
Well there are many reasons! The first one is, because Mesopotamia was where, around 3500 B.C., the first written language was found. At first, it was composed by simple drawings called pictograms, look at these examples.
Over time, these drawings were simplified and started to transform into symbols, which is what we know today as cuneiform (cuniform) writing. As you can see, this writing was made with a wooden punch over clay boards.
Another great contribution mesopotamia made was its art. They created the arc and vault, that helped them construct magnificent temples and palaces. To decorate the walls and doors within these temples and palaces they used paintings like this one, where the King Ashurbanipal is hunting lions.
By the way, before we say goodbye, Do you know what country Mesopotamia is today?
Well it’s… Irak! you can see it here.
