Kel Assouf was founded in 2006 in Brussels around an exiled tuareg musicians, Anana Harouna (voice and guitar).
From the start Kel Assouf built its identity on two central ideas: promoting the tuareg culture as well as cultural encounters and mixing.
The band is composed by musicians of 7 different nationalities, coming from Africa and Europe.
Lead by Anana, the band toured through many festivals and concert halls of Western Europe, Eastern Europe and North Africa. Kel Assouf now presents its new album « Tin Hinane » which rounds up those years of stage. This album, produced by the label Igloo Mondo, is made of original compositions in Tamasheq (tuareg language) and spreads a message of peace engagement, unity between people, the construction of Africa and love. It has been selected by the french radio « FIP » quality label selection.
Both the lyrics and the typical guitar play of Anana classify Kel Assouf in the new generation of tuareg musicians such as Tinariwen.
The originality of Kel Assouf lies in their claim to multiculturalism and the universalism of their message on top of their tuareg identity.

A documentary (Gabrielle Provaas & Rob Schröder)—Azawad: The Art of Creating a State—offers a unique insight in the everyday struggle of the Kel Tamasheq (Tuareg), Arab, Fula, and Songhai peoples that have joined the liberation movement. Together with artist Jonas Staal and researcher Younes Bouadi, the directors interviewed the movement's provisional government, commanders, strategists, historians, and artists, who explain their endeavors in the “art of creating a state”—a state that, up until today, has not been recognized by any other state in the world.

But local Tuaregs have seen little benefit from this natural wealth.
Angry at their government and the French, the rebel group, the Niger Movement for Justice (MNJ), rise up to fight for a greater share of their mineral wealth and put an end to the pollution, caused by the mining, that they say is slowly killing their people and animals.
The MNJ rebels attack French uranium facilities, and the Niger government sends troops to the north. After two years of fighting, the Tuareg rebellion in Niger ends without the rebels’ aims being achieved.
Meanwhile in neighbouring Mali, the Tuareg National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) fights to keep control of their newly announced independent state of Azawad. However al-Qaeda gains supremacy over the territory.
In January 2013, France - Mali’s old colonial master - sends thousands of soldiers to seize the land back, resulting in a mass exodus of Tuaregs.
From refugee camps, Tuaregs say they will continue to demand, and dream of, an independent state.

A hard-hitting film about the Tuareg people
of North Africa, how they have been
marginalised, divided, had their land
stolen and their culture repressed.
Filming in secret, with no travel documents and no licence to film, Akli Sh'kka, his cameraman and guide set out to tell the story of the people who live in the Sahara Desert. Passing through difficult terrain, they met with various tribes throughout the desert and in some villages.
Their aim? Simply to establish the truth about Tenere, one of the least-known places on the planet. That, alas, meant exposing the intolerable political situation of the Tuareg.
The film makers fervently hope that they have been able to bring home to the outside world the realities of this unknown land, and that their film will engage the human sympathies of fair-minded people who might, in however small way, help to influence the decision-makers of the planet.
"This film is dedicated to my late friend Bassi & those British friends who have particularly helped make it possible. I also dedicate it to my own suffering people, the Tuareg or Amazigh, in whichever country they currently find themselves."

LEADIN:
Timbuktu's markets are starting to become busy again, as Tuareg livestock traders return to the city.
Many of them fled after a failed Tuareg-rebellion in 2012.
Locals are happy to see them back - with sheep prices dropping in time for Eid.
STORYLINE:
Worshippers sit in the sun outside Timbuktu's Grand Mosque for Eid prayers.
Attending is the region's governor, Colonel Mamadou Mangara, who listens as the Imam offers prayers of peace for the entire nation, as violence continues in the country.
On Friday, gunmen on motorbikes attacked a convoy of Niger's troops who are participating in a UN peacekeeping mission in Mali - killing nine of them.
The ambush was the deadliest attack on UN forces in the country yet and was thought to have been carried out by an al-Qaeda-linked group behind numerous attacks in the West African nation.
But despite the deaths, progress is said to have been made in reducing some of the tensions.
Many local Tuaregs fled the city after a failed Tuareg-backed rebellion in 2012.
But now, as talks with Tuareg separatists continue in Algeria, traders and shepherds have returned to Timbuktu.
One of those at the market, Bir Mahamane, says it's encouraging to see business being revived.
"The market is coming to life again, the animal traders used to be afraid, the animal dealers are the Arabs. They have come back. No one is afraid in Mali anymore," he says.
It's also bought an added benefit - sheep prices have dropped.
"Overall its going alright, it's going alright. There are enough (sheep) and they are less expensive, less expensive. The prices go from 25,000 CFA (48 US dollars) down to 5,000 CFA (10 US dollars), you can get a good animal for 50,000 CFA (96 US dollars), for 50,000 CFA (96 US dollars), no problem," adds Bir Mahamane.
Baba Tandina, who's also at the market, agrees.
"Despite the lack of security, we have a lot, a lot of sheep and the prices are affordable. Prices go from 22500 CFA (43 US dollars) up to 75000 CFA (143 US dollars), no more than that. If you go with 25000 CFA (43 US dollars) you'll get a sheep, the more you pay the better it gets. 75000 CFA (143 US dollars) is the top end. Despite the security situation, everyone can get a sheep here, not just in Timbuktu but across the region," he says.
Tuareg rebel groups are involved in ongoing talks with the country's government.
After the failed rebellion, the groups are now calling for negotiations on the future status for the northern region of Mali, known as Azawad.

At The Watershed addiction treatment and drug rehab center, we believe in recovery.
https://www.thewatershed.com
We believe that every addict and alcoholic deserves the opportunity to be healed.
We believe in bringing health and hope back to families and sick and suffering addicts.
From the moment patients arrive, they receive acceptance, care, compassion, and professional excellence.
We work on making a bond, and instilling hope, and restoring some type of believe in the addict or loved one that they can heal, that they can recover.
One of the barriers for patients to escape active addiction is the fear of detox. We at The Watershed understand that and we have an excellent medical staff. Patients are cared for 24 hours a day by registered nurses. They are supported by our Behavioral Health Tech staff. And we're able to withdraw them from drugs and alcohol in a safe and comfortable manner.
During the rehab phase of care, The Watershed provides therapy and enables patients to escape from old habits and wounds that bind them to addiction. We teach people to deal with the triggers that might cause them to relapse. We teach patients how to have fun again. We teach people how to live their lives without drugs.
Watershed offers the care the patient needs. Whether that care is detox in primary treatment in the rehab phase, or a full continuum of care that takes the patient all the way back to independent living. Watershed will individualize your treatment so that you get the care you need.
Most of the patients who come to The Watershed travel here from out of state. They come to the beautiful, sub-tropical environment of Palm Beach County, Florida and get away from their toxic home environments.
This is a center of excellence, and like any other disease, people want to travel to where the treatment is best.
Our full time staff who are dedicated only to Watershed patients enable us to focus on individualized care, to get down to the core and the root issues of each patients problem; to understand our patients as individuals.
No matter how hopeless your situation seems right now, you should choose The Watershed; you should come today. We have seen thousands and thousands of patients recover from this seemingly hopeless state of mind and body.
Addicts can recover. Addicts do recover. They recover and they reach their dreams. Dreams they never even knew were possible.
There's no need to stay in addiction. There's no need to watch your loved one die.
As a leading drug treatment center our aim is to ensure that you receive the care and support required for you to find your way out of the struggle that drug and alcohol addiction brings to you and your family.
