Employment, Livelihoods and Basic Service Delivery for Vulnerable Urban Communities in Mogadishu
The European Union-funded “Sustainable Employment Creation and Improved Livelihoods for Vulnerable Urban Communities in Mogadishu” (SECIL) project has, between September 2011 – March 2015, implemented strategic activities in five sectors of the urban economy: economic infrastructure, solid waste management, construction, water and sanitation, and energy and environment.
Through the SECIL project, UN-Habitat has – in partnership with the Benadir Regional Administration (BRA), CESVI and Human Relief Foundation – created over 1000 long term jobs and improved access to basic urban services for over 200,000 households in Mogadishu. A regular solid waste collection service has been established, greatly improving sanitary conditions in the city. The project has also contributed to improving the city’s market facilities and management bodies; has introduced - at the Acquadotto Technical Centre - a Water Quality Testing Laboratory and Construction Material Testing Laboratory, as well as space for Technical Training; has established Mogadishu’s first Handicraft Centre; and has introduced new technologies such as charcoal briquette production, improved cookstoves, and biosand water filters to the city’s most vulnerable communities. In addition, skills training has been provided to 1,350 people throughout the various project components.
The SECIL team would like to thank the EU for their generous contribution to Mogadishu’s most vulnerable communities, and to the Benadir Regional Administration for their excellent leadership and guidance that continues to work towards a better future for the people of Mogadishu.

Our Albayrak Group commenced its activities with the construction sector in 1996, executed projects only within the construction sector until 1982 and in that year entered the personnel transportation sector. The Albayrak group, which achieved an expansion parallel to the growth of the national economy, had sustained Turkey with the group’s investments in new sectors. With over 20 corporations, the Albayrak Group is constantly growing and continuing its operations in 6 different sectors; construction, real estate investment, industry, logistics, service, news media and tourism.
The Albayrak Group, which had arrived at this point by giving over 5000 people a job opportunity, is looking at the future of Turkey with an unshakeable trust.
Our group had entered the logistics sector with the personnel transportation in 1982, and became the leader of the sector within four years. Following the takeover of the management of the Trabzon Port in 2003, the Albayrak Group has made crucial contributions to the regional and national economy. A short while after this takeover, the handling capacity of the port had been raised from 3.9 million tons to 5 million tons through new investments and modernization studies. In the same manner, the Trabzon Port had reached 1,537,000 tons, in terms of handled material, and grabbed a slice of history with a 500% increase in container traffic.
The Trabzon Port, which possesses a 1252-meter dock length, is providing continuous service in operations like; a 3-million-ton storage, a roll-on/roll-off access with 2000 vessel acceptance and a 250,000-passenger capacity, pouring, the port guidance of cargo and open transit materials, port location and clearance operations. The Albayrak Group is aiming to turn the Trabzon Port into the biggest port of the Black Sea Region with short and mid-term investments.
The Albayrak Group continue to make its investments in the port sector that has an important position in the logistics field by means of taking over the 20-year-long management rights of the Mogadishu Port in Somali, which is the brother country of and has an important place for Turkey. With this new venture, the Albayrak Group is glad to acquire one of the ports in Eastern Africa, which carries great strategic importance, on 21 September 2014 with an agreement in the form of taking a share from 45% of the port’s revenue and giving the 55% share to the Somali government.
In order to bring the port up to world standards, along with the equipment investments made for the port, before the takeover, and the placing of the Turkish management personnel that are experts in their related subjects, short and mid-term investments are also being planned. The port also became a new income source for the Somali citizens, in terms of new personnel being included in the working team.
Our group, which is aiming for non-negligible developments in the development of the Somali economy that already has crucial resources, will be making an effort in installing new lines to the port, which will be serving vital international customers like MSC, SIMA TECH, CMA-CGM, and especially will be using its own past experiences in order to turn the port into a transit one.

Travel video about destination Brunei.
Brunei Darussalam is a tiny sultanate in the north of the island of Borneo located on the shores of the South China Sea and is surrounded by the Malayan federal states of Sabah and Sarawak. The capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, is like something from an exotic fantasy.
The splendour of the mosque of Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudin is a captivating sight. This Islamic landmark is also a symbol of great wealth and was built in 1958 and was named after the father of the present sultan. Snow white Italian Carrara marble was used as building material, with granite from Shanghai. It commemorates the founder of modern Brunei.
On a classic longboat powered by outboard motor, we travel on the Brunei River and are soon surrounded by mangrove brush. Tropical thunderstorms and monsoon rain create dense vegetation and the ensuing humidity produces lush flora.
At the junction of two muddy-grey waterways of the Brunei River is an historic location, Kampung Ayer, a water village. Each building and adjoining pathway is built on posts yet there is both an electricity and drinking water supply. Plants decorate the terraces, and TV aerials are everywhere and it has a population of around thirty thousand.
Brunei is a land that has almost lost its history while moving into modern times. It is a country that has grown amazingly wealthy since its gas has hissed and its oil has spluttered from deep below the ground. Liquid gold - Allah be praised!

Over three hundred Egyptian soldiers serving with the United
Nations force in Somalia left Mogadishu on Monday (20/2) as the UN
evacuation enters it's final stages. They boarded a military
aircraft headed for Cairo. Meanwhile, hundreds of Somali's gather
daily outside the UN base near the airport. Some are waiting to
collect their last pay cheques, while others try to find a way to
steal what they can.

World's deadliest tourist Destination.

Travelling should be more than packing bags, travelling long way to a 7star hotel and visiting some of most likely visited tourist destination. According to my idea of holiday, if you have a charged pocket, a desire to taste some adventure (or taste death) then you must visit Somalia. Somalia is on the Horn of Africa, and is bordered by Ethiopia to the west, Djibouti to the north-west, and Kenya on its south-west. On June 21, the US Federal Government has issued a Travel Warning for the country. Travel to Somalia is EXTREMELY NOT recommended as the conflict continues.
Somalia is noted as the world's unsafe travel destination and is one of the most dangerous places on Earth.
Somalia is home to the largest coastline in Africa, good hotel and food bargains and the beautiful mountains. In 2004, Somalia's minister of tourism claimed that the country hadn't had an officially-acknowledged tourist in 14 years. The problem? Civil war and fighting among warlords seeking to gain control of drug and weapons trafficking has left Somalia a burning wreck of what was once a beautiful country.
Since the civil war broke out in 1990, Somalia is divided into no less than two dozen warring groups. The proprietors of most of the Hotels may serve delicious lobster on the roof overlooking the sea, but they also advise that visitors hire at least 10 armed guards to get them from the airport to the hotel. The United States doesn't even operate an embassy in Somalia, so you're truly on your own. Terrorist attacks, cross-border warring and brutal, violent street crime wrack the country on a daily basis. So why would you want to visit Somalia? The answer probably would be adventure.
The Safety Tips:
1. Somalia is a Muslim country. As such, be sensitive about where you point your camera. There are many great photo opportunities around every corner (the question is usually what to leave out of each image), but when photographing people, always ask first. Don't ever try to take pictures of women, even if you're a woman yourself. This is considered a great offense and can even result in more than a few harsh words. Also don't try to take pictures of anything that looks as if it could be of any strategic importance.
2. Alcohol is prohibited in Somalia and possessing alcohol will get you into a lot of trouble - and never drink and drive.
3. Never discuss religion. Even highly-educated Somalis who studied abroad won't appreciate it and doors will close for you. Also be aware that the Islamic "call to prayer" happens five times daily and can be heard loudly almost anywhere you go. Just understand that most Somali people are used to it and enjoy it as part of the cultural experience. If you aren't Muslim, it is not expected for you to participate, but you should always sit quietly and respectfully until the prayers end.
4. Do Take care of your clothing as you are visiting a Muslim country.
As with any travel in a war zone, exercise extreme caution. And for a last pray for a safe landing back to your town.
