Sail away
The sound of my voice is like a hurricane
Feel it from the edge of the earth
Hear the name, rippin’ through the cracks in your spine
In your veins, consumin’ you and makin you mine
Call out, wasted in the sun
Years gone, a slave under a gun
Fight a bleeding heart or find your own
Alone
Sail away
The sound of my voice is like a hurricane
Feel it from the edge of the earth
Hear the name, rippin’ through the cracks in your spine
In your veins, consumin’ you and makin you mine
Oh I'll hide my heart in sleeve
I'll make the young believe
Wake a world of eyes sent to sleep
For me
Sail away
The sound of my voice is like a hurricane
Feel it from the edge of the earth
Hear the name, rippin’ through the cracks in your spine
In your veins, consumin’ you and makin you mine
Oh you'll hear me coming from below
Oh you'll hear me coming down the road
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
Sail away

The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA or PIRA) was an Irish republican paramilitary organisation that sought to remove Northern Ireland from the United Kingdom and bring about an independent republic encompassing all of Ireland. It emerged in December 1969—after the beginning of the Troubles—when the Irish Republican Army split over ideology and how to respond to attacks on Catholics in Northern Ireland. Catholic demands for civil rights had been met with violence from Ulster loyalists and from the government of Northern Ireland, culminating in the August 1969 riots and deployment of British troops.
The Provisional IRA was the biggest and most active republican paramilitary during the Troubles. It saw itself as the only rightful successor to the original IRA and called itself simply the Irish Republican Army (IRA), or Óglaigh na hÉireann in Irish. It was also widely referred to as such by others. The IRA is a proscribed organisation in the UK under the Terrorism Act 2000 and an unlawful organisation in the Republic of Ireland. The United States includes them in the category of "other selected terrorist groups also deemed of relevance in the global war on terrorism."

Sinn Féin (/ʃɪn ˈfeɪn/ shin-FAYN)[2] is an Irish republican political party active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The name is Irish for "ourselves" or "we ourselves",[3][4] although it is frequently mistranslated as "ourselves alone".[5] Originating in the Sinn Féin organisation founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith, it took its current form in 1970 after a split within the party (the other party is the Workers' Party of Ireland), and has been associated with the Provisional Irish Republican Army.[6] Gerry Adams has been party president since 1983.
Sinn Féin is currently the second-largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly, where it has four ministerial posts in the power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive, and the fourth-largest party in the Oireachtas, the parliament of the Republic. Sinn Féin also received a plurality of Northern Ireland votes in the 2010 United Kingdom general election, although the Democratic Unionist Party won more seats.

The Remembrance Day bombing (also known as the Enniskillen bombing or Poppy Day massacre) took place on 8 November 1987 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. A Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) bomb exploded near the town's war memorial (cenotaph) during a Remembrance Sunday ceremony, which was being held to commemorate British military war dead. Eleven people (ten civilians and a police officer) were killed and 63 were injured. The IRA said it had made a mistake and that its target had been the British soldiers parading to the memorial. The unit who carried out the bombing was disbanded.
The bombing was strongly condemned by all sides and weakened the IRA's and Sinn Féin's support. It also facilitated the passing of the Extradition Act, which made it easier to extradite IRA suspects from the Republic of Ireland to the UK. Loyalist paramilitaries responded to the bombing with 'revenge' attacks on Catholic civilians. The bombing has been described as a turning point in the Troubles and an incident that shook the IRA "to its core".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enniskillen_bombing
The Harrods bombing usually refers to the car bomb that exploded outside Harrods department store in central London on Saturday 17 December 1983. Members of the Provisional IRA planted the time bomb and sent a warning 37 minutes before it exploded, but the area was not evacuated. The blast killed three police officers and three civilians, injured 90 people, and caused much damage. The IRA Army Council claimed it had not authorised the attack and expressed regret for the civilian casualties. The IRA had been bombing commercial targets in England since the early 1970s, as part of its "economic war". The goal was to damage the economy and cause disruption, which would put pressure on the British government to withdraw from Northern Ireland.
Harrods was the target of a much smaller IRA bomb almost ten years later, in January 1993, which injured four people.

Jeremy Corbyn stated "I chaired a meeting discussing the Middle East and the Middle East Peace Process, I have indeed met people with whom I profoundly disagree on many things in order to try and bring about a peace process. I worked with and met Sinn Fein in the 1980s in order to try and promote a Northern Ireland peace process. And I believe one should work with people with whom you don’t agree because just talking to people who you agree with isn’t going to bring about a long term settlement in the Middle East. I have also met people in Likud and very many right wing parties in Israel because at some point there has to be talks. Already Israel is talking to Hamas. The former head of Mosad has said there has to be negotiations involving them. I think we have to be serious about bringing about a long term peace."

A Sinn Féin delegation including Gerry Kelly MLA, Alex Maskey MLA, Carál Ní Chuilin MLA and Sean Murray met today with the Chief Constable and senior officers of the PSNI to discuss the ongoing investigations into the killing of Jock Davison and Kevin McGuigan.
At the meeting the PSNI senior team acknowledged the role played by Sinn Féin in supporting the PSNI and opposing violence and criminality.
Following the meeting Gerry Kelly said,
“The killings of Jock Davison and Kevin McGuigan, was nothing to do with republicanism. It was an act of criminality.
“Their families deserve justice. It is imperative the PSNI continues to investigate and bring to court those involved.
“We called again on people with any information connected to these killings to bring it forward to the police.
“We raised concerns about a number of speculative and unhelpful comments made recently.
“We rejected any suggestion the IRA was involved in the killing of Kevin McGuigan. The IRA stood down over 10 years ago.
“It is clear the group Action Against Drugs is a criminal gang totally opposed to the peace process and Sinn Féin.
“This group has been involved in extortion, intimidation and murder in nationalist communities and issued threats against anyone suspected of involvement in the killing of Gerard Davison. These are not the actions of republicans, but of criminals.
“The PSNI senior team acknowledged the role of Sinn Féin in supporting the PSNI and opposing those who seek to promote conflict and the use of violence. Sinn Féin’s commitment to peaceful and democratic progress is beyond question.”

Ms. McCorley said,
"This morning's shooting was wrong and I condemn it unreservedly.

Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly has said the British government must honour the Stormont House Agreement on full disclosure to meet the needs of victims.
Speaking after Martin McGuinness revealed that the British Secretary of State Theresa Villiers has agreed to meet with relatives of victims of the conflict to discuss their concerns over the British government’s failure to uphold its commitments to full disclosure.
Gerry Kelly said;
“The British government has failed to honour the Stormont House Agreement on full disclosure to meet the needs of victims.
“They continue to cover up the action of their agents, army, police and political establishment by using a so-called national security veto.
"That pretext for blocking disclosure is clearly nonsense as much of the information families are looking for is related to events 30 to 40 years ago.
"This is unacceptable and means that no agreement was possible on dealing with disclosure and the past.
"The two governments committed to return to this issue to seek an early resolution, we intend to hold them to that.
"Sinn Féin will continue to campaign along with victims' groups and the families of victims of the conflict to achieve the full disclosure they deserve on the killings of their loved ones."

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said today the political institutions remain the best way to protect people from the worst excesses of Tory austerity.
Martin McGuinness said;
“At the heart of this agreement is our common commitment to a better future.
“The cuts to our welfare budgets, tax credits and our block grant are wrong and unfair. We are determined to do all in our power to oppose this austerity and protect our people and our public services.
“We have secured more than half a billion pounds of additional funding for the Executive plus flexibilities that can be invested in growth and public services.
“We are providing a package of £585 million to support the most vulnerable in our society and low-income working families.
“We have appointed a panel under the leadership of Professor Eileen Evason to draft proposals on how this money will provide essential support to people on welfare and thousands of families targeted by Tory cuts to tax credits.
“We will continue to do all we can to support those in need.
“The legacy of the past remains a huge gap in this work. The onus remains on the British government to live up to their responsibilities to victims, in particular full disclosure.
“We also addressed directly the issue of paramilitarism. There can be no place for armed groups in our society. That is why the agreement includes additional resources for policing and mechanisms to challenge armed gangs and criminality.
“Our political institutions are the best way forward. The First Minister and I are absolutely united on this.”

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan said urgent action is needed from the European Commission to help struggling dairy farmers.
Mr McMullan said;
"I attended today's protest outside Belfast City Hall to stand in solidarity with our struggling dairy farmers.
"With milk prices falling farmers and producers working in the dairy industry are facing serious challenges.
"Dairy farmers need urgent action from Europe and the EU Commissioner Phil Hogan should raise the intervention price so farmers get a fair price for their produce.
"All sectors of the agriculture industry are facing pressures and I will be traveling to Brussels next week to meet the Commission to raise the concerns of local farmers on this and other issues.
"Agriculture minister Michelle O'Neill is committed to ensuring that maximum farm payments are made in December.
“This will help ease the cash flow problems our farmers are facing with the aid package she secured for dairy farmers expected to be allocated in the coming weeks.
"Sinn Féin will continue to support those involved in our farming and agriculture sectors."

"Do you have a view on the money raising carried out by Gerry Adams and Sinn Féin in the United States? How is it received in Washington?"
Irish American Democrats founder and Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign fundraiser, Stella O'Leary and journalist Conor O'Clery give their insider views of the current American political landscape, the upcoming POTUS election, on going political gridlock, and Irish-American relations, in an event organised by the UCD Clinton Institute and Irish Network Dublin.
--
Stella O’Leary had a political vision for Irish Americans and turned her idea into actions by founding the Irish American Democrats. O’Leary began the political action committee in 1996 to support the re-election of President Bill Clinton, who encouraged peace in Ireland during his first term. The main goal of the IAD is to support “Democratic candidates who promote peace, justice and prosperity in Ireland.”
O’Leary, who serves as president of the IAD, is a native of Dublin and graduated from University College, Dublin. She archived a collection of rare Irish books and manuscripts at Catholic University after immigrating to America over 40 years ago. She also co-authored the reference volume, Classical Scholarship: An Annotated Bibliography.
Irish American Democrats was founded in 1996 by Stella O’Leary to support the re-election of President Clinton who had made Peace in Ireland a priority during his first term in office. Since then, the political action committee has raised funds to support candidates who take an active interest in Irish Issues, and promote prosperity both here in the U.S. and in Ireland.
The IAD showed their support for President Obama in the 2008 election, as Barack Obama has Irish roots. O’Leary was appointed by Obama as the alternate observer of the International Fund for Ireland (IFI) along with Dan Hynes as head observer. The IFI has funded over a billion dollars for peace and reconciliation projects across Northern Ireland and in surrounding areas.
With O’Leary as their leader, the IAD continues to work with the White House, Senate and U.S. House of Representatives members to support U.S. involvement in peace for Ireland. It has also raised millions of dollars in support of Democratic congressional and presidential candidates.
Conor O'Clery was born in Belfast and educated at Queen's University Belfast. He has worked for the Irish Times for 26 years in various positions, including news-editor and resident correspondent in Belfast, London, Moscow, Washington and currently Beijing. He will be the Irish Times business/financial correspondent in New York in 2001. He has won several awards for his work, including Journalist of the Year in Ireland in 1987, and he is the author of four books: Phrases Make History Here, America, A Place Called Hope, Melting Snow and The Greening of the White House.

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has said history was made in the Assembly today when the majority of MLAs backed marriage equality.
Ms Ruane said;
"It is hugely important that more than half the Assembly has voted in favour of marriage equality.
"This signals a major shift in society with more and more people supporting marriage equality for our LGBT community.
"It vindicates our position to bring this motion forward for the fifth time and we will continue to push on until equality becomes law.
"It is also encouraging that growing numbers of unionists are now supporting marriage equality.
"It is disappointing there are still those who oppose equality and used a petition of concern to block this motion.
"Marriage equality needs to happen right across the island. We cannot have a situation where we continue to have inequality against members of the LGBT community.
"This is a historic day but the campaign from marriage equality is not over and will not be until we have equality enshrined in legislation."

Cllr. Eoin O'Broin (SF, Clondalkin) is one of of Sinn Féin's most respected economc commentators.. He is also a member of South Dublin County Council, having previously served as a member of Belfast's City Council.
CouncilMatters recently caught up with Cllr. O'Broin and grabbed the opportunity to quiz him on the values and priorities of a future Sinn Féin led government. He offers a clear commitment that Sinn Féin will not serve in any Government led by either Fine Gael or Fianna Fail, indicating they would prefer to be part of a broad LEFT oriented alliance.
He indicates how their commitment to abolish water charges and local property taxes can be met with increasing taxes on families earning averages wages. Cllr. O'Broin highlights the importance Sinn Fein emphasises the importance Sinn Fein attaches to supports for SME's as economic drivers, particularly in the areas of employment and wage growth.n He indicates that voters can expect Sinn Féin to be an interventionist rather than a more regulatory government particularly in the spheres of rent controls and social housing development.
In a clear nod to women voters, Cllr. O'Broin details Sinn Féin's women friendly policies in relation to affordability of child care costs, availability of creché places and flexibility of working hours.

This was a SF organised public meeting on fracking, majority of attendees were SF members/supporters.
Speakers Michael Colreavey T.D. & Phil Flanagan MLA spokespeople on this issue for SF.
Sinn Fein passed a motion calling for a ban on unconventional fossil fuel extraction (fracking) in both NI and ROI at their Ard Fhéis in 2012.
Vice President of SF, Mary Lou McDonald came to Leitrim a few weeks ago to launch SF's EU and local candidates for the upcoming election. At that meeting of approx 200 SF members, no sitting public representative or candidate mentioned fracking.
Politicians in NI and in ROI and it's mainstream media continue to try and represent fracking as a distant issue that is only relevant to the people of Fermanagh and Leitrim. Initial licenses given out for unconventional oil/gas extraction cover vast areas of 12 counties throughout the island of Ireland. There are shale gas deposits all over this island. Even if this industry was to be confined to Leitrim, Fermanagh and Antrim (which it will not) the damaging, irreversible effects on health, environment, farming, tourism, The Shannon Basin etc..will be felt throughout the island.
When speaking to the media ie. RTE/BBC NI about serious issues facing this country SF do not include fracking.
To date SF have done little on the issue in NI. The anti-fracking campaign on this island believe the industry will first commence in NI. Presently the U.K government are trying to push ahead with this industry by allowing exploratory work/test drills to take place despite huge public opposition. Further info here - http://frack-off.org.uk/
SF have said little or nothing about Rathlin Energy's plans for drilling in Antrim and Derry.
To date, as far as we are aware they have made no official objections to Rathlin Energy's planning application nor have they voiced any concern about it. Details on Rathlin Energy here - http://notofracking.com/ and here http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2014/05/516713.html
There doesn't seem to be any concern either over InfraStrata PLC -
"A petroleum exploration and gas storage company has written to Carrick Council over plans to drill a well at a site in Woodburn Forest." East Antrim - "InfraStrata plans to commence construction of the wellsite in September 2014," - http://www.carrickfergustimes.co.uk/news/local-news/plans-to-drill-exploration-well-in-woodburn-forest-1-5989740
SF recently refused to sign a petition of concern organised by Green Party MLA Steven Agnew which could have stalled the decision made by Arlene Foster, to grant an extension to Tamboran's liceonse in Fermanagh. Further info here - http://www.greenpartyni.org/green-mla-disappointed-parties-did-not-sign-petition-to-force-fracking-on-to-executive-agenda/
SF refused to attend a public debate more info here - http://votedonalocofaigh.nationbuilder.com/sinn_f_in_refuse_to_debate_fracking
This industry wants to start here through ground work ie. exploratory/test drilling, successful planning applications etc...Communities are fighting to ensure this will not happen. It appears that SF has decided not to oppose the industry at this point. This makes no sense to campaigners, if you oppose this industry you obviously oppose it at every level not after they have set-up and have put infrastructure in place.
Email re extension to Tamboran from Mitchel McLaughlin SF, Principal Deputy Speaker - Northern Ireland Assembly
"A chara,
Re: Extension of Petroleum Exploration Licence PL2/10
Thank you for your recent letter regarding the decision by Minster for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Arlene Foster to extend Petroleum Exploration Licenses here from March 31st 2014 to September 30th 2014.
Sinn Féin opposes hydraulic fracturing and shares your concerns about the potential damage it could pose to the environment. At our most recent Ard Fheis Sinn Féin delegates passed a motion in opposition to fracking and pledged our full support to the communities who are opposed to this unsafe process.
The licence granted is for purposes of exploration under the terms of the Petroleum (Production ) Act 1964 and permits the licencee to search and bore for and get petroleum.. The Minister does not require Executive agreement for these applications. In respect of any subsequent application for hydraulic fracturing (fracking) given the cross cutting, non conventional and significant nature of this matter, it is our view that any application for fracking to take place in the north will be required to come before the Executive. Sinn Féin will oppose any application at the Executive to carry out hydraulic fracturing on the island of Ireland in accordance with our party policy.
Mitchel McLaughlin MLA"
It seems that the only way SF will actually do anything on this issue is if we the people hold them to account and force them to take real steps towards stopping this industry.
