Plot: 14 year-old Ellis (Tye Sheridan) lives on a makeshift houseboat on the banks of a river in Arkansas with his parents, Mary Lee (Sarah Paulson) and Senior (Ray McKinnon). He sneaks out early one morning to meet his best friend, Neckbone (Jacob Lofland). Neckbone, also 14, lives with his uncle, Galen (Michael Shannon), who makes a hardscrabble living diving for oysters. The two boys set out to an island on the Mississippi River, where Neckbone has discovered an unusual sight-a boat, suspended high in the trees, a remnant of an extreme flood some time in the past. They climb the tree and into the boat only to find fresh bread and fresh footprints. Realizing that they are not the only ones who have discovered the treehouse boat, they decide to leave. When they reach the shore, they find the same footprint in their boat. And that's when they meet Mud (Matthew McConaughey). Mud is a gritty, superstitious character; his clothes are dirty, his tooth is cracked, and he needs help. He tells the boys he will give them the treehouse boat, his current hideout, in exchange for food. Neckbone is reluctant, but Ellis brings food to Mud, and they develop a tentative friendship. Ellis learns that Mud has killed a man in Texas, and police and bounty hunters are looking for him, but Mud is more concerned about reuniting with his longtime love, Juniper (Reese Witherspoon). Ellis, who has recently developed his own crush, agrees to help Mud escape with Juniper. Ellis and Neckbone carry out bold schemes in an effort to protect Mud and relay messages to Juniper, who is holed up in a fleabag motel, under constant surveillance by Carver (Paul Sparks), a Texas bounty hunter. Carver and his gang are intent on capturing Mud, on orders from the cold-blooded King (Joe Don Baker). As the boys risk everything to reunite these seeming mythical lovers, Ellis's own ideas about love and romance are challenged by the strains in the relationships closest to him: his parents' marriage is dissolving while he himself falters in his efforts to impress May Pearl (Bonnie Sturdivant). Through it all, Ellis struggles to look for an example of love that he can believe in, learning about the unspoken rules and risks of love and the reality of heartbreak.

We don't know who this guy is.::Ellis: He loves her, Neck. He told me.::Neckbone: I don't give a shit who he loves!
Ellis: He's not dangerous.::Neckbone: [sighs] Sounds like a shitload of state troopers thinks differently.
Galen: [to Ellis] So you get your heart broke? Don't walk around with a shit look on your face. Get back in there, get your tip wet. You hear me?
Mud: There are fierce powers at work in the world, boys. Good, evil, poor luck, best luck. As men, we've got to take advantage where we can.

Richard Pryor: One of the greatest American comics of all time. His impact on comedy and this generation’s top comedians — who cite Richard as their biggest influence — is unrivaled.
He was one of the first black men ever on television. He pioneered a new brand of humor: black man impersonating white man while making fun of himself. And he was a hit. His comedy was universal. His rise to fame was nothing short of miraculous.
But Richard’s comedy was a sign of the times. And in the midst of growing racial tension in the ‘60s and the free speech movement, he became increasingly dissatisfied limiting his self-expression to comedy that didn’t touch on religion, politics or race relations — let alone the “N” word. This burden of pretending to be cut from the same non-controversial comedic cloth as Bill Cosby proved too great, and in 1967 he walked off stage in Las Vegas in front of a sold-out crowd without performing.
Richard’s epiphany that night would change the course of comedy forever. When Richard Pryor finally returned to the stage two years later after a sabbatical in Berkley, California, he was not the same comic nor man. He was more honest than ever with himself — and the audience — and the laughs he drew: even bigger. This raw and unfiltered Richard Pryor not only changed the course of comedy as an art form, but also changed the audience itself. And as unimaginable as his exit was in 1967, so was his rise the next decade when he became not just a genius comic but a major film star.
On this all new episode of :ICON, we delve into the life and legacy of Richard Pryor — how he came up through the brothels of Peoria, Illinois, performed on the Ed Sullivan Show, got banned by the networks, and became embroiled in a pattern of self-destruction that threatened his life.
This is the show that defines Richard Pryor’s lasting impact on comedy and culture, often in his own words, showing us why he is an :ICON.

Richard Pryor’s Widow Says Bill Cosby Is A “PIECE OF SH*T” Who “F*CKED Everything That MOVED!!

Richard Pryor's widow has torched embattled comic Bill Cosby, calling him a "piece of s--t" who "f----d everything that moved."
Speaking on the podcast "Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend," Jennifer Lee Pryor skewered Cosby as "a hypocrite" over allegations he drugged and assaulted dozens of women, recalling how the once-iconic comedian looked down on her husband for using profanity in his act.
"Richard was dirty on the outside, but he was a good person on the inside," Pryor said. Her comments were reported by Jezebel. "Bill … hated Richard because he 'worked dirty.' Bill worked clean, so therefore, you know-Bill's just a f-----g hypocrite and dirty on the inside," she said.
Pryor added that, during Cosby's decades-long heyday, many in Hollywood knew he was a horn dog. "It was a well-kept secret that Bill f----d everything that moved," Pryor told Rosen, who is best known as podcaster Adam Carolla's former sidekick.
"This kind of s--t that we're finding out about is beyond. I wasn't aware of this kind of business," Pryor added. "There are people in the business who were aware of it and they're coming out now."
She also said she believed Cosby's wife Camille, whom he married in 1964, knew about her husband's dirty deeds all along.
"Of course she knew," Pryor said. "Why is she going for the 'okie-doke,' as Richard would say? That's anybody's guess." "I can guess why — ka-ching," she said, making a cash register sound.
"He's done. Yea. He's done," she said of Cosby.
Jennifer Lee married Richard Pryor in 1981, divorced him a year later and then remarried him in 2001.
They remained together until Pryor's death, of a heart attack, in 2005. Her comments come a week after another legendary comedy figure, Eddie Murphy, reportedly dodged the opportunity to jab the scandal-scarred comedian on “Saturday Night Live's” 40th anniversary special.
Fellow "SNL" alum Norm Macdonald revealed in tweets after the show that he'd been tasked with convincing Murphy to unpack his signature Cosby impression for a bit, but Murphy refused.
Cosby later released a statement praising Murphy's decision.
Murphy's decision likely didn't sit well with Pryor, who praised comedian Hannibal Buress for catalyzing the latest wave of allegations against Cosby.
"Hats off to him … you know, it's never cool to bring a black icon down," Pryor said.
