Cuba, Paris and Nashville are on Frommer's list of places to visit in 2017

(12 Jan 2017) PARIS, CUBA AND NASHVILLE AMONG FROMMER'S LIST OF THE 18 PLACES TO VISIT IN 2017 This year marks 60 years since Arthur Frommer launched the Frommer's travel guidebook brand. The first Frommer's guide published in 1957 was "Europe on $5 a Day." Today the Frommer's brand is still going strong with 101 book titles covering destinations around the world. Arthur Frommer is 87 and still writes a blog for the Frommers.com website and hosts a radio show, but his daughter Pauline Frommer now leads the brand. The Frommers came up with a list of 18 places to visit in 2017 ranging from Cuba to Nashville. Pauline Frommer one place on the list is Karasjok, Norway. She says the Northern Lights are going to be especially good this year and Karasjok is a great place to see them. "The Northern LIghts are going to be especially great this year and then really sucky for the next 10 years. Because the Northern Lights happen when particles from the sun hit our atmosphere and the sun has 10 year storm cycles. The last year is 2017. So if you've ever wanted to see the aurora borealis, the Northern LIghts, now is the time to go. We think you should go to Karasjok because it's right near the Arctic Circle but it's inland. Many places where you see the Northern Lights you get fog, you get weather from the sea, you don't in Karasjok. And it's a fascinating place because it's where indigenous Norwegians live, the Saami people. So you go reindeer herding during the day and learn about the culture there." Frommer says it's also a good time to see Paris. "Because of the attacks that Paris has suffered in the last year and a half, their tourism has dropped 30 percent. I was in Paris in June. I was in rooms of the Louvre all alone. I was able to get reservations at restaurants that you usually would have to plan months in advance to go to. The Euro is incredibly weak. It's almost at par with the dollar. And the French are thrilled to see you. So there has never been a better time to go to Paris. " Another city on the list is Nashville. Not only does the city have Country music, good food and lots of universities - it's will be one of the few places to take in a celestial event in 2017. "We think Nashville is just an incredibly fun destination but this year is a particularly good year to go because on Aug. 21, they're going to be one of a few North American cities in the direct line of a solar eclipse. So for astronomy fans, you get to hear some country music and you get to see an eclipse, which is pretty special." Other spots of the Frommer's list of 18 places to see in 2017 are Montreal, Quebec, Bermuda, The Panama Canal, the Mississippi River, Sulawesi, Indonesia, San Francisco, Fatima, Portugal, The Pantanal, South America, Nan Madol, Micronesia, Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda, Germany, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Park in Maine, Haida Gwaii, British Columbia and Doha, Qatar.
