"Paint It, Black" is a song released by The Rolling Stones on 13 May 1966 as the first single from the US version of their fourth album Aftermath. It was originally titled "Paint It Black" without a comma. Keith Richards has stated that the comma was added by the record label, Decca.
The song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Mick Jagger wrote the words and Keith Richards wrote the music.
Bill Wyman claims in his books that the song was a group effort although it was credited to Jagger/Richards.[citation needed]
The single reached number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom charts in 1966. In 2004 it was ranked number 174 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In the US and UK, it was the first number one single to feature a sitar on the recording.
The song acquired its distinctive rhythm when Wyman, looking for a way to "fatten up" the bass sound, began playing with his fists on the pedals of an organ during the recording session. Richards said Wyman was doing a take-off of their first manager who started out as an organist in a cinema pit.Brian Jones played the song's signature sitar riff, and Jagger contributed to the lyrics, which he has said are about a girl's funeral. Both electric and acoustic guitars and the background vocals are provided by Richards. The piano is played by Jack Nitzsche.
Eric Victor Burdon (born 11 May 1941) is an English singer-songwriter best known as a member and vocalist of rock band The Animals, and the funk rock band War and for his aggressive stage performance. He was ranked 57th in Rolling Stone's list - The 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Burdon was lead singer of The Animals, formed during 1962 in Newcastle, England. The original band was the Alan Price Combo which formed in 1958. They became the Animals shortly after Burdon joined the band. They combined electric blues with rock and in the USA were one of the leading bands of the British Invasion. Along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, and The Kinks, the group introduced British music and fashion. Burdon's powerful voice can be heard in The Animals singles "The House of the Rising Sun", "Sky Pilot", "Monterey", "I'm Crying", "Boom Boom", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", "Bring It On Home to Me", "Baby Let Me Take You Home", "It's My Life", "We Gotta Get out of This Place", "Don't Bring Me Down", and "See See Rider".
I can't believe you ever thought I even gave a shit for everyone
except my friends and family
Go and ask me bout the world, yeah I could give a fuck
you want to make things right, well go ahead, just don't ask me.
save the fish, save the trees, save the air
Well what about the children?
Mother natures come to frag our fuckin ass
you cared too late for a lost cause
GREEN PEACE >>>>>>>>>>> BLACK WAR
BLACK WAR I can't fuckin wait
burning plastic hate
choppin the trees down
black war, black war marching towards the breakdown
You tell me things I say are, violent, mean and wrong
you really think I'm violent
why don't I show you just
how violent I can be
Against your right to even have a place
to show your face
it don't take balls to walk and talk the edge that's fucking straight
you say everything we do is gonna hurt our mother earth
toxic waste and oil spills also did our mother birth
Mother natures come to frag our fucking ass
you cared to late for a lost cause
GREEN PEACE >>>>>>>>>>> BLACK WAR
BLACK WAR I can't fuckin wait
burning plastic hate
choppin the trees down
black war, black war marching towards the breakdown
hey, hey, hey pollution ain't gonna go away
