Email from Erika Christakis: https://www.thefire.org/email-from-erika-christakis-dressing-yourselves-email-to-silliman-college-yale-students-on-halloween-costumes/
On November 5, 2015, students at Yale University gathered on campus to protest an email sent by Associate Master of Silliman College Erika Christakis on October 30. Christakis’ email responded to a separate email from the school’s Intercultural Affairs Council that asked students to be thoughtful about the cultural implications of their Halloween costumes.
Christakis argued that the council’s email was infantilizing and threatened free expression on campus. There was also a concern that because the email was long, detailed, had 13 signatories, and links to acceptable and unacceptable costumes, it would not be interpreted as a rule. But rather it had the “color of law” implicit within it.
FIRE President and CEO Greg Lukianoff was on Yale’s campus during the protests on November 5 and captured this footage on his cell phone of Christakis’ husband, Nicholas, meeting with the protestors. By the time Lukianoff arrived on the scene, Nicholas had been speaking with the protesters for about an hour.
The Washington Post reports that students have begun to organize formal demands for the resignation of Christakis and her husband.

Yale University has been hit by controversy in the past week after professor Erika Christakis, associate headmaster of the school’s Silliman College, sent an email to the college’s members suggesting that they shouldn’t be overly sensitive about Halloween costumes that engage in “cultural appropriation.” Instead, Christakis encouraged students to tolerate them and avoid trying to censor expression.
“Is there no room anymore for a child or young person to be a little bit obnoxious … a little bit inappropriate or provocative or, yes, offensive?” Christakis wrote. “American universities were once a safe space not only for maturation but also for a certain regressive, or even transgressive, experience; increasingly, it seems, they have become places of censure and prohibition.”
In response, Christakis and her husband Nicholas (Silliman’s headmaster) have been besieged by calls for their resignation by students who say they have made Yale a dangerous place for black students. The controversy has become even more intense because of simultaneous allegations that the school’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter held a “white girls only” Halloween party. http://www.infowars.com/yale-student-shrieks-at-prof-for-denying-her-safe-space-video/

Universities are not preparing these young minds for the cold, harsh reality of.....Halloween costumes. - Cultural Marxism at it's finest.
The professor was simply trying to prove that censorship, at any level, is a slippery slope. But, they couldn't handle the fact that someone would disagree with them.

We left beautiful Boston today to head to New York City via Yale University. We were lucky enough to catch a tour around the campus :) After a stressful drive (city driving argh!) we returned the hire car and headed to our hotel (room tour!!), which was huge (more like an apartment!) with amazing views. Had just enough energy to catch an eat to bite at a nearby restaurant before hitting snoozeville.

Yale University is a private Ivy League research university in New Haven, Connecticut. Founded in 1701 as the "Collegiate School" by a group of Congregationalist ministers and chartered by the Colony of Connecticut, the university is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the United States. In 1718, the school was renamed "Yale College" in recognition of a gift from Elihu Yale, a governor of the British East India Company. Established to train Connecticut ministers in theology and sacred languages, by 1777 the school's curriculum began to incorporate humanities and sciences. During the 19th century Yale gradually incorporated graduate and professional instruction, awarding the first Ph.D. in the United States in 1861 and organizing as a university in 1887.[6] Please visit more at : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yale_University

Travel Tips From Master Traveler: Richard Fowler

1. Eat Whole Foods You probably wouldn't grab a bag of chips and soda and call it breakfast if you're at home - so don't do it on the road. "At the airport, at the hotel, there is always an apple," says Shankman, who now brings almonds to pair with the fruit and passes up airline food altogether. Whole foods like fruit and nuts are full of fiber. That keeps you feeling full longer, so you'll eat less.
2. Stay Hydrated Instead of dehydrating alcohol and caffeine, try to stick to water when flying, says Yale University nutritionist Lisa T. Kimmel, MS, RD, CSSD. "Low humidity and recirculating air within the cabin are a set-up for dehydration, which can worsen jet lag and cause fatigue. A good rule of thumb is to drink 8 ounces of water every hour of the flight," says Kimmel.
3. Multitask Your Workout Workout and sightsee at the same time. "Running or walking is a great way to see a new place and get outdoors," says Sarah Lorge Butler, a fellow MoneyWatch contributor and author of Run Your Butt Off! Don't want to make room in your carry-on? Westin hotels now lend guests running shoes.
4. Don't Count on the Gym If it's raining and your hotel doesn't have a gym, that's no excuse to fall off the workout wagon, says Hollywood trainer Gunnar Peterson. He advises his jet-setting clients to pack a jump rope that can be used both in the traditional way and as a stretching aid. Another hotel-room friendly exercise? Push-ups. Peterson suggests doing 10-15 reps with your feet on your bed and your hands on the floor, and another set with your hands on your bed and your feet on the floor. For a guided workout, download one to your laptop before you leave and you'll be set, whatever the weather.
5. Stick To Your Regular Eating Schedule Planning ahead will keep you from ditching your diet later. "Don't skip breakfast. Schedule a wake up call to make sure that you take time to eat so that you don't overcompensate with big portions as the day goes on," says Kimmel.
6. Stay Active at the Airport If you get to the airport early, resist the urge to immediately plop down into a chair at the gate (they're not comfortable anyway, so this shouldn't be too hard). Window shop until you board, and you'll burn both calories and time. "I never take the moving walkways at an airport," says Butler. "Geez Louise, people - just drag your wheelie behind you and move your tush a little before you settle into that airplane seat!"
7. Remember That Calories Count, Even Midair Sure, you can ask for a low-fat, low-sodium meal if your airline offers them. But bringing your own food is better. "A few of my picks: homemade trail mix with whole grain cereal, dried fruit, peanut butter and jelly or honey on whole grain bread, whole wheat crackers with nut butter, or raw veggies," suggests Kimmel.
8. Make Cocktail Hour About Networking, Not Drinking Whether you're partaking in a conference's happy hour or sipping martinis with a business associate at a hotel bar, alcohol calories can add up quickly. Even worse, drinking too much will cloud your judgment when you order dinner (as well as when you're making business decisions). "Get one drink at the very beginning with lots of ice and nurse it all night," says Shankman. "Or get club soda with lime. Everybody thinks it is vodka."

THERE’S something in the water and it’s turning America mad.
Social Justice Warriors (SJWs), groups of mostly young, mostly university students, are waging a bitter war with the cultural establishment of the nation and it’s turning increasingly nasty.
Those who proudly adopt the title express a mix of sensitivity to social issues coupled with an aggressive and almost militant outrage at any perceived injustice. But their incendiary tactics have sparked a huge backlash from professors, journalists and commentators around the country as a culture war that has been bubbling under the surface for some time is on the verge of exploding.
Those on the other side accuse SJWs of using fear mongering and bullying to police language, enforce censorship and unfairly discredit those who deviate from their position.
“If there is any silver lining in this dark cloud, it’s that the social-justice faith is so grim, so angry, and so arrogant that it can prosper only through intimidation and coercion,” conservative columnist David French wrote in the National Review this week.
The American political landscape is sharply divided with those on the fringes commanding a vast portion of commentary. While Australians may have viewed the extreme right wing as holding a monopoly over membership to the mad hatters, the SJWs, considered to be on the extreme left, seem intent on balancing the scale.
‘IT IS NOT ABOUT CREATING AN INTELLECTUAL SPACE’
The latest headline-grabbing incident that’s been played out in this war is the cancellation of free yoga classes at Ottawa University because of concerns of cultural appropriation.
The weekly class had been running since 2008 and was enjoyed by both disabled and able-bodied students. The backlash to the decision was biting with an online torrent of criticism levelled at the student union’s victory.
Even though it took place in Canada, it’s just one of many bitter disputes dividing university campuses across North America.
This month, protests erupted on the campus of Yale University after the school’s Intercultural Affairs Committee sent an email to the student body asking them to avoid wearing “culturally unaware and insensitive” Halloween costumes that could offend minority students.
In response, Erika Christakis, a faculty member and administrator at a student residence wrote an email to her resident students on behalf of those who felt “frustrated” by the official advice.
“Increasingly, it seems, they (universities) have become places of censure and prohibition,” she wrote.
Her email sparked a firestorm of anger and spurred protests that became a massive news story in the US.

Hi this is my video,.....Write something Founded in 1908 by George Parmly Day, and his wife Wilhelmina, Yale University Press is one of the oldest and largest American University Presses. By publishing serious works that contribute to a global understanding of human affairs, Yale University Press aids in the discovery and dissemination of light and truth, lux et veritas, which is a central purpose of Yale University. Note that a baseball cap is a type of cap which is no longer necessarily associated with baseball. It could have a logo for a team from another sport, or for a company or commercial product, or it could be personalized with the wearer's name. The vagueness might even concern its construction: The brim of the cap might be solid while the body of the cap might be a plastic grid, for example, which might have struck the speaker as being unusual enough to warrant a remark, but not important enough to give the reader specifics. The indignities of modern air travel are legion.
From Our Advertisers
From the cramped cabins and stale air to the interminable security lines where, along with their liquids, travelers surrender a little bit of their soul with each pat-down, the joy of jet-setting has departed long ago.
But in some places, the airport itself can provide refuge.
In Hong Kong, travelers can play a round of golf while waiting for a connecting flight. In Seoul, South Korea, people can strap on skates and kill time on the ice at the Sky Rink. And in Paris, parents are provided with free strollers as they cruise newly upgraded terminals. fgsgzfdgbfSHBGfvbbvc...i am mad COOL..

As part of the Global Institute of Sustainable Forestry's "Art of Wood" event series made possible by funding from the Ball Foundation, visiting architects Michael Green and Andrew Waugh presented the latest in timber-based architecture and design. Andrew Waugh presents Waugh Thistleton's 9 storey building made from cross-laminated timber (CLT). Waugh and Green also talk about their new project: Finding the Forest Through the Trees (FFTT). The FFTT project is an innovative, open source plan for building tall wood buildings through a "strong column-weak beam" balloon-frame approach that uses large format mass timber panels for vertical structure.

In the latter part of the sixth century of Islam, an Iranian Scholar by the name of Fakhr ad-Dīn ar-Rāzī (rahimahullah) produced a hundred page treatise on the theological discourse of the Names of Attributes of Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla). His treatise was presented to a Sultan who was related to Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn al-Ayyūbi (rahimahullah). In it, he propounded something he called 'The Universal Rule', which stated that if reason conflicted with revelation, precedence must be given to reason over revelation.
Some two centuries later, one of the greatest thinkers of Islamic history, hailing from the city of Damascus, produced a ten-volume magnum opus refuting this alleged 'Universal Rule'. The name of this man was Shaykh al-Islām Taqī'l-Dīn Ahmad b. Abd al-Haleem Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah), a genius whose intellectual brilliance is hardly seen during or after his era.
Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi, who regards Shaykh'l-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullah) as an intellectual mentor, spent eight years examining the above-mentioned work, and presented it as his PhD dissertation at Yale University. In his work, Ibn Taymiyya argues that there can never be an actual conflict between true reason and explicit revelation.
Join Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi in this very interesting and academic talk on a summary of his dissertation at Yale University.

Patrick Leigh Fermor’s first travels in Greece took place before the outbreak of the Second World War, and he already spoke fluent Greek by the time he was parachuted into occupied Crete in 1942 to help the Cretan Resistance, which in May 1944 resulted in the abduction of a German general. Leigh Fermor settled in Greece in the 1960s, and lived there until his death in 2011. His books Roumeli: Travels in Northern Greece and Mani: Travels in the Southern Peloponnese are two of the best travel books in the English language. The talk is about his life and friends in Greece, and how much the country meant to him.

http://www.ibiology.org/ibioseminars/thomas-pollard-part-1.html
Talk Overview:
Pollard begins with a brief history of the proteins involved in cellular motility; actin, myosin, and the various factors involved in regulating actin filament turnover. He focuses on the role of the Arp2/3 protein complex in nucleating the growth of the branched actin filaments found at the leading edge of a motile cell. Structural and biochemical studies allowed Pollard and his colleagues to formulate a model for how actin polymerization can provide the force to push the cell membrane forward.
In his second talk, Pollard explains why the fission yeast S. pombe is an excellent model to study actin-mediated processes. Fluorescently labeled actin-binding proteins allowed Pollard and his colleagues to follow actual cellular events and compare them with their mathematical model. Adjusting the model so it matched the experimental data provided insight into how actin assembly and turnover could produce the force needed for cells to move or undergo endocytosis.
Cytokinesis is the process by which a contractile ring forms around the middle of a cell and squeezes to divide it into two daughter cells. Although it has been known since the 1970s that the contractile ring contains actin and myosin, it turns out that there are over 100 other proteins involved in cytokinesis. In fission yeast, conditional and deletion mutants of many cytokinesis genes are available, many cytokinesis proteins have been labeled with fluorescent tags so they can be followed over time in live cells, and biochemical characterization of proteins has informed computer models. In his third talk, Pollard discusses the data that have given rise to the latest model for how the contractile ring forms and is regulated.
Speaker Biography:
Tom Pollard is the Sterling Professor of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at Yale University. He received his BA from Pomona College and his MD from Harvard Medical School. He was a Professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1977-1996 and President of the Salk Institute in San Diego from 1996-2000. He joined Yale University in 2001.
Pollard has been an integral member of the cell biology and biophysics communities for many years. He has been President of both the Biophysical Society and the American Society for Cell Biology, Director of the Physiology course at the Marine Biological Laboratory, and a member of the ASCB Public Policy Committee for 25 years. He has organized numerous meetings, has been a member of many committees and scientific advisory boards, and has been on the editorial boards of at least 10 journals. Together with William Earnshaw, he is the author of the popular textbook Cell Biology.
Pollard is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Medicine and a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has received numerous awards including the E.B. Wilson Award from the ASCB in 2005 and the Gairdner International Award in 2006.
