A public interest writ petition seeking a CBI probe against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh in a disproportionate assets case was disposed of by the Delhi High Court on Thursday with the observation that “nothing remains” in the matter.
The premier investigating agency had already registered a regular case and was conducting the probe, said a Division Bench comprising Justice B.D. Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva. The court also noted that the proceedings in the income tax cases against him had been taken up for assessment and re-assessment.
Additional Solicitor General Maninder Singh, appearing for CBI, said the investigation would be taken to its “logical conclusion”.
The CBI had registered the case against Mr. Singh and his wife under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code on September 23. The court said no direction was necessary in the matter and there was no need to go into the issue of maintainability of the PIL.
The PIL, alleging that Mr. Singh had amassed assets beyond known sources of income, was initially filed by NGO Common Cause.
