Sethurama Iyer

Sethurama Iyer (Malayalam: സേതുരാമയ്യര്‍, alternate spelling Sethuramayyar) is a fictional character, and the protagonist of the CBI investigative thriller series of films in Malayalam directed by K. Madhu. The character was played by Mammootty in four films so far.

Sethurama Iyer is an investigative officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Indian equivalent of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation. Iyer's popularity is attributed to the fact that he uses his brain rather than brawn to solve cases. The suspense-filled narration of the movies and the novely of the investigative thriller genre also contributed to its success and becoming a household name among the moviegoers of Kerala. The character is said to have been inspired by a police officer named Radhavinod Raju, who in 2009 was appointed as the first chief of India's National Investigation Agency.

Inspiration

The character is said to have been inspired by a police officer named Radhavinod Raju, who in 2009 was appointed as the first chief of India's National Investigation Agency. Raju's excellence while probing the Polakulam Peethambaran murder case and SI Soman murder case, when he was acting as Superintend of CBI Kochi, attracted the attention of many. His "Dummy-to-Dummy" experiment in Polakulam Peethambaran murder case was used in Oru CBI Diary Kurippu. When Oru CBI Diary Kurippu became a hit, Mammootty became more famous in films and Raju in his services. Incidentally, Raju was Mammootty's senior in Maharajas College.

Suresh Gopi

Suresh Gopinathan, commonly known as Suresh Gopi, is an Indian film actor and singer who has starred in more than 200 Malayalam films.

The role of Kannan Perumalayan in Kaliyattam (1997) won him the National Film Award for Best Actor. In 2012, he became the host of the Asianet game show Ningalkkum Aakaam Kodeeshwaran.

Personal life

Suresh Gopi was born in Kollam into a Hindu Nair family to Gnanalekshmi Amma and Gopinathan Pillai a film distributor, as the eldest son. He has a younger brother, Subash Gopi. He had his primary education from Infant Jesus School Kollam. He pursued masters in English literature from Fatima Mata National College, Kollam.

Career

He returned to acting in the mid-1980s with Sathyan Anthikkad's T.P. Balagopalan M.A. (1986), where he played a prospective groom in a small scene. He went on to play supporting and villain roles. Some other roles of his include Balan in Nandi Veendum Varika (1986), Kumar in Rajavinte Makan (1986), Vinod in January Oru Orma (1987), Shekaran Kutty in Irupatham Noottandu (1987), Suresh in New Delhi (1987), Harry in Oru CBI Diary Kurippu (1988), Unni in 1921 (1988), and Aromal Chekavar in Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989). He played the comic role of Inspector "Minnal" Prathapan in Manu Uncle (1988) and of Dr. Narendran in Padmarajan's Innale (1989).

Sethurama Iyer CBI

Sethurama Iyer CBI (Malayalam: സേതുരാമയ്യര്‍ സിബിഐ) is a 2004 Malayalam mystery crime film directed by K Madhu, written by S. N. Swami, and starring Mammootty, Mukesh and Jagathy Sreekumar.

This film is the third in the series of the CBI investigative thrillers featuring Mammootty as CBI officer Sethurama Iyer. Prequels to this film are Oru CBI Diary Kurippu (1988) and Jagratha (1989). There was one sequel Nerariyan CBI (2005).

Plot

The movie begins with Sethurama Iyer Mammooty visiting Isow Alex (Kalabhavan Mani), a convicted serial killer who is awaiting his execution. Alex was arrested and convicted for the cold-blooded murder of seven people in two different families. Alex, who had been living a wild life then, had committed the crime high on narcotic drugs. The murder case was left to the CBI for investigation and an able officer, played by Siddique, nabbed Alex in no time. Alex is now a new man, mainly due to the influence of a priest (Gopi), who requests Iyer to visit Alex.
