Minicon is a science fiction and fantasy convention in Minneapolis usually held on Easter weekend. Started in 1968 and running approximately annually since then, it is one of the oldest science fiction conventions in the midwest United States. It is run by the Minnesota Science Fiction Society, a non-profit organization that is "dedicated to furthering the appreciation of science fiction and fantasy literature".
Minicon has had many guests of honor over the years, including Gordon R. Dickson, Poul Anderson, Clifford D. Simak, Lester del Rey, Frederik Pohl, Octavia E. Butler, Harlan Ellison, Larry Niven, and Terry Pratchett.
Staples of modern Minicons are:
The first Minicon was held on 6 January 1968 in Coffman Union at the University of Minnesota and had approximately 60 attendees. In all subsequent years it was held in area hotels. Attendance grew fairly steadily for many years, culminating in a series of conventions that drew over 3000 people and used as many as 4 hotels. However, in 1999, Minicon downscaled dramatically due to a feeling among some organizers that it had strayed too far from its roots and had become unmanageable. Recent Minicons have had between 400 and 700 attendees.

Transformers RID (Adventure) Mini-Cons Wave 1 & Autobots with Mini-Con Packs
Takara-Tomy has released some official images of their April 2016 Transformers Adventure releases, which include the Japanese market releases of the Robots in Disguise Mini-Con battle two packs. The sets consist of an Autobot who has snap on armor, and a Mini-Con. For the Japanese market release, Takara-Tomy has redecoed the four Mini-Cons and it appears they’ve also switched from Decepticons to Autobots – with the bots also getting some recoloring and altered decos, including Bumblebee’s armor going from green-blue to silver. Takara-Tomy has released some official images of their April 2016 Transformers Adventure releases, which include the Japanese market releases of the Robots in Disguise Mini-Con battle two packs. The sets consist of an Autobot who has snap on armor, and a Mini-Con. For the Japanese market release, Takara-Tomy has redecoed the four Mini-Cons and it appears they’ve also switched from Decepticons to Autobots – with the bots also getting some recoloring and altered decos, including Bumblebee’s armor going from green-blue to silver. The four figure sets coming in April are:
TAV40 Steel Armor Bumblebee with Ironjam
TAV 41 Gravity Armor Optimus Prime with Gravity
TAV42 Volcanic Armor Grimlock with Volcano
TAV43 Electric Armor Sideswipe with Barithunder

North Korea appears to have fired a ballistic missile from a submarine off its eastern coast, South Korea says. It is not clear whether the test was authentic, and if it was, whether it will be considered a success by the North. It celebrated its 35th anniversary in June, but what may surprise some is that its smaller, more comics-centered, sister convention, MiniCon actually predates Heroes and the Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find store, which puts on both events ... The original MiniCon was held in a community room at Eastland Mall from 1977 until the mid-’80s when the mall changed management and the room was chopped up for office space....
