Edmundo Ros
Edmundo William Ros (Puerto España, Trinidad y Tobago, 7 de diciembre de 1910) es un músico, vocalista y director de orquesta, conocido internacionalmente por su fusión de la música latinoamericana tradicional y moderna.
En el mundo anglosajón, se le llama a veces con el sobrenombre de "King of Latin American Music" ("El rey de la Música Latinoamericana").
Su madre era una venezolana con ascendientes africanos; su padre era escocés. Sus padres se separaron siendo muy joven, por lo que se trasladó en 1927 con su madre a Caracas, Venezuela, ingresando después en la Escuela Militar, época en la que se le despertaron sus aficiones musicales al entrer a formar parte de una banda militar donde tocó el bombardino durante unos 4 años y más tarde, recibió una beca de música del gobierno. Vivió en Caracas hasta 1937. En junio de 1937, se trasladó a Londres, Inglaterra para estudiar música clásica en la Academia Real de Música. Pronto volvió a tocar música popular.
En 1939, formó su propia banda de rumba. En 1941, se ganó el reconocimiento con la canción Los Hijos de Buda y tocaba regularmente en el elegante club Coconut Grove en Regent Street, que atraía a muchos miembros de la alta sociedad.
En 1946 poseía un club, una escuela de danza, una compañía discográfica y agencia de artistas. Su banda creció hasta los 16 músicos. Su álbum The Wedding Samba vendió tres millones de copias en 1949.
En 1951, compró el club Coconut Grove y lo rebautizó como "Edmundo Ros" Dinner and Supper Club. El club se hizo popular por su atmósfera y música; éste cerró en 1965. De 1964 a 1968 regentó el internacionalmente conocido y muy exclusivo Edmundo Ros Club en Regent Street (Londres).
En 1975 (a la edad de 65) se retira y se traslada a Jávea (España), donde reside actualmente.

Edmundo Ros
Edmundo Ros OBE FRAM (7 December 1910 – 21 October 2011), born Edmund William Ross, was a Trinidadian musician, vocalist, arranger and bandleader who made his career in Britain. He directed a highly popular Latin American orchestra, had an extensive recording career and owned one of London's leading nightclubs.
Early life
Edmund William Ross was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad. His mother Luisa Urquart was a Venezuelan teacher, thought to be descended from indigenous Caribs, and his father, William Hope-Ross, was of Scottish descent. He was the eldest of four children, having two sisters, Ruby and Eleanor, followed by a half-brother, Hugo. His parents separated after Hugo was born, and after various false steps Edmund was enrolled in a military academy. There he became interested in music and learned to play the euphonium and percussion. When his mother became involved with a man he loathed and had a son by him, the 17-year-old left for Caracas, Venezuela to study at the Academy of Music under Maestro Vicente Emilio Sojo.

Edmundo Ros Edmundo William Ros (Puerto España, Trinidad y Tobago, 7 de diciembre de 1910) es un músico, vocalista y director de orquesta, conocido internacionalmente por su fusión de la música latinoamericana tradicional y moderna. En el mundo anglosajón, se le llama a veces con el sobrenombre de "King of Latin American Music" ("El rey de la Música Latinoamericana"). Su madre era una venezolana con ascendientes africanos; su padre era escocés. En el mundo anglosajón, se le llama a veces con el sobrenombre de "King of Latin American Music" ("El rey de la Música Latinoamericana").
Su madre era una venezolana con ascendientes africanos; su padre era escocés. Sus padres se separaron siendo muy joven, por lo que se trasladó en 1927 con su madre a Caracas, Venezuela, ingresando después en la Escuela Militar, época en la que se le despertaron sus aficiones musicales al entrer a formar parte de una banda militar donde tocó el bombardino durante unos 4 años y más tarde, recibió una beca de música del gobierno. Vivió en Caracas hasta 1937. En junio de 1937, se trasladó a Londres, Inglaterra para estudiar música clásica en la Academia Real de Música. Pronto volvió a tocar música popular.
En 1939, formó su propia banda de rumba. En 1941, se ganó el reconocimiento con la canción Los Hijos de Buda y tocaba regularmente en el elegante club Coconut Grove en Regent Street, que atraía a muchos miembros de la alta sociedad.
En 1946 poseía un club, una escuela de danza, una compañía discográfica y agencia de artistas. Su banda creció hasta los 16 músicos. Su álbum The Wedding Samba vendió tres millones de copias en 1949.
En 1951, compró el club Coconut Grove y lo rebautizó como "Edmundo Ros" Dinner and Supper Club. El club se hizo popular por su atmósfera y música; éste cerró en 1965. De 1964 a 1968 regentó el internacionalmente conocido y muy exclusivo Edmundo Ros Club en Regent Street (Londres).
En 1975 (a la edad de 65) se retira y se traslada a Jávea (España), donde reside actualmente.

René González -- one of the Miami Five -- was released from prison on 7 October 2011 following 13 years of unjust incarceration. This film is René's first English-language interview since his release.
Although Rene has been released from prison, he is not free and must spend a further 3 years on probation in Miami, despite the fact that his wife, children and family all live in Cuba.
This is an extra and cruel punishment imposed by the US on René. By forcing René to remain in the US, his life is in danger from the very anti-Cuba terrorist organisations that he was in the country to infiltrate. Furthermore, inflammatory statements from US Congresswoman Lleana Ros-Lehtinen calling him an "enemy of America" further threaten his safety.

The song was written in 1901, with lyrics by Frank Lebby Stanton and music by Ethelbert Nevin.
