DAYTON -- Hollywood has finally hit the Miami Valley as Dayton's racino officially opens its doors.
Officials at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway planned to open to the public at 1 p.m. today but a growing crowd at the door prompted the racino to open a little early.
With 1,000 video lottery terminals, which resemble slot machines, Dayton's Hollywood is now the fifth racino to open in Ohio, with a sixth scheduled to open next month near Youngstown.
Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway was designed to resemble the 1930's-style Hollywood ambiance with art-deco design details throughout the property.
"We want our guests to feel as if they've re-entered the Golden Age of Hollywood," said Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway General Manager Gary DeWitt. "Vintage Hollywood never goes out of style and we've created an atmosphere of classic sophistication throughout the property."
The economic impact will be huge for the north Dayton area as a million people a year are expected to visit the facility.
The $250 million dollar venue made jobs for 500 people in our area. That's good news for locally owned business like Paradise Key Cafe.
"We're just fortunate to be across the street from the new racino," said owner Larry Parr.
The racino will be opened 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

DAYTON -- Officials from Penn National Gaming, and community leaders officially broke ground this morning on the $250 million Hollywood at Dayton Raceway racino, planned at a former auto factory at Needmore and Wagner Ford roads.The combined horse racing and casino complex is expected to include 1,500 video lottery terminals, which operated like slots machines, a 5/8-mile track, a climate-controlled grandstand and a simulcast wagering theater.The racino will be off Needmore Road, the same site where the Delphi plant use to be, until it closed in 2008. When it closed that area took a hard hit. We've all seen this road kind of languish especially after Delphi pulled out and then we tore that building down, here's the opportunity for us to have not only expansion of businesses that are already here, said Phil Parker with Dayton's Chamber of CommerceThe biggest benefit to you will be the jobs it will create. Typically it's $35 to $40,000 is the average salary and that includes benefits, we've had experience with many of these communities have introduce gaming in the last 15 years that these jobs are very valuable, they do stimulate the economy, said Tim Wilmott, President and COO of Penn National. But more than that, it is the beginning of what we foresee as a new era of economic development for the Dayton area.The project is expected to cost $125 million and create 1,000 construction jobs and then 1,000 casino jobs. However, Penn National will pay the State of Ohio a $50 million fee for its video lottery terminal facility and additional $75 million to relocate the racing license. It should open by mid-summer 2014.Penn National also held a groundbreaking ceremony today for a racino project planned in the Youngstown area.

WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (Jeff Hirsh) -- Twelve-twelve-twelve, thats when the tri-states newest gambling establishment will open. Miami Valley Gaming will open its doors on December 12th, at noon. The facility, just off I-75 in Warren County, near Lebanon, will have 1600 video slot terminals, four restaurants, two bars,and a 5/8 mile harness racing track, which takes the place of Lebanon Raceway a few miles away. Operators of the $175 million facility say it has employed 1,000 construction workers, and will have more than 500 permanent employees. Its a a great economic project, said General Manager Jim Simms. Its a huge economic engine for the area. Owners estimate more than $24 million dollars a year will be pumped into local communities. While the video gaming portion of the racino opens in December, horse racing is not expected to begin until February, and have an approximately 75 day season. Other than the horses, racinos and casinos differ because racinos in Ohio cannot offer table games nor video poker. Reporters and photographers toured the facility this morning. Workers were busy putting in finishing touches, getting the restaurant and bar areas ready, along with the glass-enclosed grandstand for racing. Miami Valley gaming joins a rapidly expanding gambling world in our area. Besides three casinos in Southeast Indiana, there is a casino in downtown Cincinnati, and one in Columbus. Columbus also has a racino, and River Downs in suburban Cincinnati will become one as well. There is also a racino planned for Dayton. We know its a very competitive market, said Simms, but we are committed to the project. We have not scaled back as some of our competitors have, so were comfortable were bringing the right product at the right time. Miami Valley Gaming is owned by Delaware North Gaming Entertainment, and by Churchill Downs, which hosts the annual Kentucky Derby in Louisville.

A racino is a combined race track and casino. In some cases, the gambling is limited to slot machines, but many locations are beginning to include table games such as blackjack, poker, and roulette.

As of 2013, racinos are legal in ten states: Delaware, Louisiana, Maine, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. West Virginia pioneered the concept when MTR Gaming Group was allowed to introduce video lottery terminals (VLTs) to Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester. Delaware, Rhode Island, and West Virginia, three of the members of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), jointly ran a progressive VLT game, Ca$hola, from 2006 to July 2011; the three lotteries also will offer Ca$hola's successor, MegaHits, beginning July 15, 2011.

Thistledown Racino
Thistledown Racino is a thoroughbred race track and casino in North Randall, Ohio at the outskirts of the city of Cleveland. It is owned and operated by a joint venture of Caesars Entertainment and Rock Gaming.
History and Information
The track came under the regulation of the Ohio Racing Commission in 1931 when it was formed. The track is the home of the Ohio Derby, the only graded stakes race in Ohio.
The track races under the Ohio 7/7 Program which means that live racing is held at two locations in the state at the same time. During the summer Thistledown races seven races on a card and River Downs races the other seven. In September, Beulah Park takes over for River Downs. Ohio racing is dark January to March. The track has declined in recent years due to summertime competition and the lack of slot machines that neighboring tracks have.
In 2007, Thistledown's parent company, Magna Entertainment, announced that the racetrack was for sale. As a result of staggering losses in which Magna Entertainment reported net losses of $87.4 million in 2006, $105.3 million in 2005 and $95.6 million in 2004, and has an accumulated deficit of $393.8 million as of March 31, 2007, Magna Entertainment stated: "Accordingly, the company's ability to continue as a going concern is in substantial doubt and is dependent on the company generating cash flows that are adequate to sustain the operations of the business, renew or extend current financing arrangements and maintain its obligations with respect to secured and unsecured creditors, none of which is assured...". Once-thriving Thistledown, which hosts the $300,000 Ohio Derby, posted a pretax loss of $4.5 million in 2006. Thistledown and parent company, Magna Entertainment, recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Penn National Race Course

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racing track and casino in Grantville, Pennsylvania, 17 miles (27 km) east of Harrisburg. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn National Gaming.
The track opened on August 30, 1972. It consists of a 1 mile (1.6 km) dirt course and a 7 - furlong turf course. It is unusual among United States thoroughbred tracks in offering racing 52 weeks a year. It features the $200,000 Pennsylvania Governor's Cup Handicap for horses three-years-old and up run 5 furlongs on the turf. In 2009 Cardashi, ridden by jockey David Cora, won in a 29-1 upset.
This track is home to Eclipse Special Award winner Rapid Redux and his trainer David J. Wells.
In 2013 the inaugural Penn Mile on turf was run. Its first winner was 3-year-old Rydilluc in a time of 1:33.99.
Casino
Hollywood Casino opened at Penn National on February 12, 2008. On July 13, 2010, table games began operation. As of July 2010, Hollywood Casino has over 2,480 slot machines and 54 tables. Table games include:14 Poker tables, Black Jack, Roulette, Craps, Pai-Gow Poker, Three and Four Card Poker, Mini-Baccarat, and Let-It-Ride. Penn National Gaming operates other casinos under the Hollywood Casino brand.

Miami Valley
The Miami Valley, broadly, refers to the land area surrounding the Great Miami River in southwest Ohio, USA, and also includes the Little Miami, Mad, and Stillwater rivers as well. Geographically, it includes Dayton, Springfield, Middletown, Hamilton, and other communities. The name is derived from the Miami Indians.
Most commonly, however, it refers to the economic and cultural-social region centered primarily on Dayton and the Greater Dayton area, including TV and radio markets. Middletown and Hamilton both fall under the economic and cultural-social influence of Cincinnati and thus, do not commonly use the term in this sense. Institutions and enterprises in the Dayton area, such as Miami Valley Career Technology Center, Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Miami Valley Storytellers, as well as Upper Valley Medical Center (Troy), illustrate local usage.

Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway
Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway is a racino in Dayton, Ohio, United States. It was originally established in 1959 as Raceway Park in Toledo, Ohio, hosting car racing and thoroughbred racing. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Penn National Gaming.
Racing
Known for weekend live harness racing including Ohio Sire Stakes and Buckeye-Wolverine Pace. The Buckeye-Wolverine Pace took place every year until ending recently. The race once successfully predicted the outcome of the rival Ohio State-Michigan football game with 75% accuracy.
Move to Dayton
In 2011, Governor John Kasich agreed to allow video lottery terminals at Ohio's seven racetracks. To avoid having Raceway Park compete with its own Hollywood Casino Toledo, Penn National has sought and obtained state approval to move Raceway Park to Dayton. The racetrack move was completed in the Spring of 2014.The racino opened on August 28, 2014 with 1,000 video lottery terminals.

Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway was designed to resemble the 1930's-style Hollywood ambiance with art-deco design details throughout the property.
"We want our guests to feel as if they've re-entered the Golden Age of Hollywood," said Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway General Manager Gary DeWitt. "Vintage Hollywood never goes out of style and we've created an atmosphere of classic sophistication throughout the property."
The economic impact will be huge for the north Dayton area as a million people a year are expected to visit the facility.
The $250 million dollar venue made jobs for 500 people in our area. That's good news for locally owned business like Paradise Key Cafe.
"We're just fortunate to be across the street from the new racino," said owner Larry Parr.
The racino will be opened 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

DAYTON -- Hollywood has finally hit the Miami Valley as Dayton's racino officially opens its doors.
Officials at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway planned to open to the public at 1 p.m. today but a growing crowd at the door prompted the racino to open a little early.
With 1,000 video lottery terminals, which resemble slot machines, Dayton's Hollywood is now the fifth racino to open in Ohio, with a sixth scheduled to open next month near Youngstown.

When it closed that area took a hard hit. We've all seen this road kind of languish especially after Delphi pulled out and then we tore that building down, here's the opportunity for us to have not only expansion of businesses that are already here, said Phil Parker with Dayton's Chamber of CommerceThe biggest benefit to you will be the jobs it will create. Typically it's $35 to $40,000 is the average salary and that includes benefits, we've had experience with many of these communities have introduce gaming in the last 15 years that these jobs are very valuable, they do stimulate the economy, said Tim Wilmott, President and COO of Penn National. But more than that, it is the beginning of what we foresee as a new era of economic development for the Dayton area.The project is expected to cost $125 million and create 1,000 construction jobs and then 1,000 casino jobs. WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (Jeff Hirsh) -- Twelve-twelve-twelve, thats when the tri-states newest gambling establishment will open. Miami Valley Gaming will open its doors on December 12th, at noon. The facility, just off I-75 in Warren County, near Lebanon, will have 1600 video slot terminals, four restaurants, two bars,and a 5/8 mile harness racing track, which takes the place of Lebanon Raceway a few miles away. Operators of the $175 million facility say it has employed 1,000 construction workers, and will have more than 500 permanent employees. Its a a great economic project, said General Manager Jim Simms. Its a huge economic engine for the area. Owners estimate more than $24 million dollars a year will be pumped into local communities. While the video gaming portion of the racino opens in December, horse racing is not expected to begin until February, and have an approximately 75 day season. Other than the horses, racinos and casinos differ because racinos in Ohio cannot offer table games nor video poker. Reporters and photographers toured the facility this morning. Workers were busy putting in finishing touches, getting the restaurant and bar areas ready, along with the glass-enclosed grandstand for racing. Miami Valley gaming joins a rapidly expanding gambling world in our area. Besides three casinos in Southeast Indiana, there is a casino in downtown Cincinnati, and one in Columbus. Columbus also has a racino, and River Downs in suburban Cincinnati will become one as well. There is also a racino planned for Dayton. We know its a very competitive market, said Simms, but we are committed to the project. We have not scaled back as some of our competitors have, so were comfortable were bringing the right product at the right time. Miami Valley Gaming is owned by Delaware North Gaming Entertainment, and by Churchill Downs, which hosts the annual Kentucky Derby in Louisville.
