Travel video about destination Arizona in the USA.
Arizona, land of cowboys and Indians and Wild West towns plus, among its many natural wonders, the all pervasive colour red as displayed by the awe-inspiring rock formations of its mighty canyons.A thousand years ago the highly-cultured Anasazi and Hohokam Indians lived here, planting maize and vegetables in the meagre valleys and building walled towns into the cliffs of the canyons. They used the natural environment, protected caves in natural rock walls, which were accessible only by simple wooden ladders. For the past century, scientists from all over the world have investigated evidence that a gigantic meteorite crashed here, leaving behind it a huge crater: Meteor Crater. As the central and inner walls of the crater are similar to the landscape of the moon, preparation and training for the APOLLO space missions took place here. Located in North West Arizona is the 378 square kilometre National Park known as the ‘Petrified Forest’ with a surrounding desert which shimmers in all the colours of the rainbow. There’s the Agate Bridge, a huge fossilised tree trunk which spans twelve metres wide across a gorge and the amazingly beautiful Canyon De Chelly. Situated in the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Betatakin Ruins are the remains of historical dwellings which were carved into the rock by their original inhabitants from the 13th Century B.C. Wild West fans instantly recognise Monument Valley where, between colossal, 300 metre tall monoliths and sky-high rocky needles, John Wayne and countless other screen heroes fought off Indians and battled with ‘baddies’. A natural sculpture formed from undulating waves of stone, Antelope Canyon is a palette of colour which teases the eye. From the surface, a gaping crevice is the only means of access, tempting the curious to enter. In bold contrast, the Grand Canyon is 1,600 metres deep and 16 kilometres long, the most colossal gorge in the world. The sight of this gigantic natural wonder is the exciting climax of any trip to the magnificent and majestic land of Arizona.

In this travel video guide to Scottsdale, Arizona, I travel to Scottsdale, the so-called "Miami Beach" of Arizona. Located just to the east of Phoenix, Scottsdale is home to some of the city's best restaurants, bars, hotels and attractions.
I start of my travel in Scottsdale visiting downtown, otherwise known as "Old Town," the very walkable central part of the city full of small shops and a booming restaurant scene. It is also here that the city's roots can be traced back to the original farmers and settlers that called this otherwise barren part of the desert home back in the early 1900's.
I then head east into Tonto National Park to go kayaking down the Salt River with Arizona Outback Adventures (AOA), the area's premiere outdoor adventure company.
Next, I visit Taliesin West, the school/winter home of America's most famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Here I explore the unique structures and landscapes that make up Wright's real-world laboratory for he and his students' architectural ideas.
Then I head back into nature with AOA to go hiking in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a 30,000-acre preserve located just minutes from the city, and a perfect place to explore the unique landscape of the desert -- even when the temperature exceeds 100 degrees.
Last, I head inside and give a tour of my sweet pad at the Hotel Valley Ho, probably one of the coolest hotels I've ever stayed in. Harkening back to its Mid-Century roots, the hotel's unique architecture and swanky rooms makes it one of the premiere places to rest your head while staying in Scottsdale.

Scottsdale (O'odham: Vaṣai S-vaṣonĭ; Yaqui: Eskatel) is a city in the eastern part of Maricopa County, Arizona, adjacent to the Greater Phoenix Area. Named Scottsdale in 1894 after founder Winfield Scott and incorporated in 1951 with a population of 2000, the 2013 population of the city is estimated to be 226,918, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.[3] The New York Times described downtown Scottsdale as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach" and as having "plenty of late night partying and a buzzing hotel scene".[4] Its slogan is "The West's Most Western Town".[5]
Scottsdale, 31 miles long and 11.4 miles wide at its widest point, shares boundaries with many other municipalities and entities. On the west, Scottsdale is bordered by Phoenix, Paradise Valley, and unincorporated Maricopa County land. Carefree is also located along the western boundary, as well as sharing Scottsdale's northern boundary with the Tonto National Forest. To the south Scottsdale is bordered by Tempe. The southern boundary is also occupied by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, which also extends along the Eastern boundary, which also borders Fountain Hills, the McDowell Mountain Regional Park and more unincorporated Maricopa County land.[6].More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottsdale,_Arizona

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce and Alliance Bank of Arizona, in partnership with The Arizona Republic, will host the Fifth Annual Arizona Education IMPACT Forum at Chandler Center for the Arts this October. The conference will discuss the importance of building strong communities, starting with the education system. Keynote speakers will include: Jaime Casap, Google’s Chief Education Evangelist, change agent and Valley resident who between visits to the White House has been involved with area schools, institutions and businesses to effect change. Jerry Colangelo, Sports Mogul and business icon, best known as the successful team owner of the Phoenix Suns and the 2001 World Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. Leading the reinvention of Downtown Phoenix, Colangelo is one of the city’s most active community leaders. His accomplishments transcend the world of sports and inspire future generations of leaders. He is an advisor to both the business and the sports program at Grand Canyon University, whose business school carries his name. Alan Gregory Gomez, Ph.D., author and former
NASA Astronaut Selection Candidate, who currently serves as Chief Academic Officer for STEM Academy developing internationally recognized K-12 curriculum and professional development programs. “Arizona is locked in a global race for talent and opportunity – a race that cannot be won without a highly educated and skilled workforce,” said Jim Lundy, CEO of Alliance Bank of Arizona. “This conference is the realization of the bank’s commitment to education and the great educators, institutions and nonprofits that support them.” “The key to a strong community begins within the education system that is responsible for teaching our youth,” said Terri Kimble, Chandler Chamber of Commerce President/CEO. “Our education system has a real effect on attracting and maintaining top employers in both Chandler and throughout the state. Parents and employers need to feel confident that our children are skilled and our workforce sustainable at a global level.” Participants in the conference include thought-leaders from Intel Corporation, Avnet, Inc., Banner Health, Maricopa and Chandler-Gilbert Community Colleges, ASU, The Arizona Republic, Arizona Commerce Authority, Expect More Arizona, Chandler Unified School District, Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Helios Education Foundation, AZ Community Foundation, College Success Arizona and the Arizona Department of Economic Security.

Many top employers look to the education system as a means of ensuring that a location, such as Arizona, and more specifically Chandler, is adequately equipped to provide a workforce that is sustainable at a global level. Keynote speakers will include: Jaime Casap, Google’s Chief Education Evangelist, change agent and Valley resident who between visits to the White House has been involved with area schools, institutions and businesses to effect change. His evangelism revolves around his core belief that education has the power to disrupt poverty and change the destiny of any family in just one generation. Person Of Interest in Custody After String Of Arizona Freeway Shootings
More than one shooter is likely behind the recent string of Phoenix-area freeway shootings, says Arizona Department of Public Safety Director Frank Milstead. "It does not appear to be the same guy,’" Milstead told The Arizona Republic on Friday. "I think we have three MOs. We have one that looks like road rage, we have the bullet ones, we have the projectile ones." His remarks came as police detained a man believed to be tied to some of the 11 shootings that have rattled Phoenix over the past two weeks. It's not clear whether the man detained Friday after he was arrested at a convenience store near Interstate 10 is the only person of interest. The shooting scenarios have varied, said a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety. Some shootings involved bullets fired at random cars, others involved projectiles — possibly BBs or pellets — and one was apparently road rage, spokesman Bart Graves said. Phoenix drivers have been unnerved since the shootings began Aug. 29, mostly along Interstate 10, a major route through the city. Many drivers have avoided freeways since then. Eight of the cars were hit with bullets and three with projectiles that could have been BBs or pellets. One girl's ear was cut by glass as a bullet shattered her window. In a press release, the Department of Public Safety identified the man detained on Friday a 19-year-old from a Phoenix suburb. The department would not provide more information linking him to the shootings other than to say he was being questioned and that he had been booked into jail on an unrelated possession of marijuana charge. He was identified as Oscar de la Torre Munoz of Avondale.

Authorities in Arizona say they've arrested a woman who confessed to drowning her twin 2-year-old sons in a bathtub Sunday.
Avondale Police Sgt. Brandon Busse told KSAZ that Mireya Alejandra Lopez, 22, admitted to killing the boys and said she attempted to drown another family member, but was stopped by a relative.
Police say Lopez is facing two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide. The third child, who was not identified by authorities, was not harmed. The identity of the twin victims was not immediately released. Emergency personnel were called to the home at approximately 12:30 p.m. local time Sunday. Busse told the Arizona Republic a family member called 911 after the twins were discovered in the bathtub. The sergeant said that by the time police arrived, the boys were on a bed and unresponsive. They were taken to separate local hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.
Avondale is a suburb of Phoenix, with a population of approximately 78,000 people. Neighbors told the Republic the home where the drownings took place is located in a quiet section of town.

My dad and I went up to Lake Havasu City as he had a class to teach. While he was teaching, I went to explore this city for myself and see what they used for refuse collection. I didn't get much footage, as time was of the essence but I hope you enjoy what I managed to find! Republic Services dominates the area with manual collection (also commercial dumpsters!) for homeowners, and dumpsters for businesses. I was extremely surprised how old school this city is given the fact that the temperatures here are hotter than Phoenix. Recycling is manually sorted, something I have never witnessed in person prior to this trip. Solid waste is collected by front loaders with carry cans, also something I haven't seen in person until this trip. Huge, huge thank you goes out to these extremely friendly drivers! This video wouldn't have been possible without them. To my knowledge, KANN Curb-sorter comminglers are rare here on YouTube especially branded in Republic colors.
