The Shahnameh, also transliterated as Shahnama (Persian: شاهنامه pronounced [ʃɒːhnɒːˈme], "The Book of Kings"), is a long epic poem written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi between c. 977 and 1010 CE and is the national epic of Greater Iran. Consisting of some 60,000 verses, the Shahnameh is the world's longest epic poetry written by a single poet. It tells mainly the mythical and to some extent the historical past of the Persian Empire from the creation of the world until the Islamic conquest of Persia in the 7th century. Today Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and the greater region influenced by the Persian culture (such as Georgia, Armenia, Turkey and Dagestan) celebrate this national epic.
The work is of central importance in Persian culture, regarded as a literary masterpiece, and definitive of ethno-national cultural identity of modern-day Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. It is also important to the contemporary adherents of Zoroastrianism, in that it traces the historical links between the beginnings of the religion with the death of the last Sassanid ruler of Persia during the Muslim conquest and an end to the Zoroastrian influence in Iran.
Shahnama-e-Islam is the masterpiece of the creator of national anthem of Pakistan Abul Asar Hafees Jalindhari. I put some effort to digitize the radio recording of 1999 into this video. Thanks to FM 100 and salute to Mr Khalilullah Farooqi, the distinguished anchor whose outstanding recitation of Shahnama-e-Islam gave it a second life as his effort introduced many of the new generation to their history. May Allah bless him and the creator of Shahnama-e-Islam the late Hafeez Jalindhari. Amin!

Frequently referred to as the Iranian national epic, it relates the glorious tales of the heroes and kings of Iran, from the dawn of time until the Islamic conquest in the mid-seventh century. This epic poem of some 60,000 verses was completed in the year 1010 by the poet Firdawsi and to mark the 1000th anniversary of this great event, the Chester Beatty Library presented a major exhibition of some 150 paintings, all drawn from its own important Shahnama collection. The Shahnama is a tale of morals and ethic...
This is the story of "Rustam and Sohrab" from the great Shahnama (Book of the Kings). The Shahnama is a poetic epic written by the Persian/Tajik poet Ferdowsi around 1000 AD. The Shahnama tells the mythical and historical past of Persia from the creation of the world up until the Arab invasion of Persia. The Shahnama, written in Persian, has been pivotal for reviving the Persian language subsequent to the influence of Arabic. The Book of the Kings is regarded as a literary masterpiece which reflects Persia's history, cultural values, its ancient religion, Zoroasterianism, and its profound sense of nationhood. This particular story of Rustam and Sohrab is only one of the many chapters in the Shahnama. Rustam has always been a hero to Persians/Tajiks as well as other Persian speakers. The...

These collection is just a short explanation of the world-known Shahnama, written by many Persian autors from Central Asia, but lately definited to a masterpiece by Hakim Abu´l Kazim Firdausi Tusi Khorasani in the Persian Samanid court of Balkh and Bukhara, who ruled nearly all of Central Asia. Later, when the book was finished he moved to Ghaznai to introduce it to Mahmud of Ghazna, ruler of the Perso-Turkic Ghaznavids of Ghazna (Khorasan), but the ruler had a lack of interest to it. According to historians, Mahmud had promised Ferdowsi a dinar for every distich written in the Shahnameh (60,000 dinars), but later retracted and presented him with dirhams (20,000 dirhams), which were at that time much less valuable than dinars (every 100 dirhams worth 1 dinar). Firdausi died in poverty. He ...
