Korean War in Color documents war-torn Korea the way the soldiers saw it-in full, shocking color. This digitally mastered DVD presents a true picture of war-full of terror, chaos, blood and courage. Many of the images included here have never been seen by the general public before, having been kept top secret for decades by military officials for fear of a public backlash.
Here are just a few of the color highlights: M.A.S.H. units in action-no Hawkeye, B.J., radar or Klinger here-these are the real men and women who saved thousands of lives. Also, the daring Inchon invasion, the battle of Seol, the Naktong River campaign, winter along the Chosin Reservoir, War in the Skies, and legendary director John Ford s rare footage of the 1st Marine
Division in Action.
In April 1950 Kim Il-sung travelled to Moscow and secured Stalin's support for a policy to unify Korea under his authority. Although agreeing with the invasion of South Korea in principle, Stalin refused to become directly involved in Kim's plans, and advised Kim to enlist Chinese support instead. In May 1950 Kim visited Beijing, and succeeded in gaining Mao's endorsement. At the time, Mao's support for Kim was largely political (he was contemplating the invasions of Taiwan and Tibet), and was unaware of Kim's precise intentions or the timing of Kim's attack. When the Korean war broke out, the Chinese were in the process of demobilizing half of the PLA's 5.6 million soldiers Stalin created "detailed [war] plans" that were communicated to the North Koreans.
On 7 June 1950, Kim Il-sung called for an election in whole Korea on 5--8 August 1950 and a consultative conference in Haeju on 15--17 June 1950. On 11 June, the North sent three diplomats to the South, who were later arrested by the South. Fourteen days later on 25 June 1950, the North Korean People's Army (KPA) crossed the 38th parallel border and invaded South Korea.

In 2003, while digging up remains at a Korean War battlefield to set up a memorial site, a South Korean Army excavation team notifies an elderly man that they identified some remains as his own.
The story then shifts to June 1950, in the South Korean capital of Seoul, where the Lee family lives. Jin-tae Lee (Jang Dong-gun) owns a shoeshine stand to pay for his younger brother Jin-seok's (Won Bin) education. They meet at a busy street in Seoul, where Jin-tae bought a silver pen for Jin-Seok. Jin-tae's fiancée Young-shin (Lee Eun-ju) works with the Lee's noodle shop. On June 25, 1950, North Korea invades South Korea. Both brothers are conscripted. They then become a part of the 1st ROK Division, fighting in the 'Pusan Perimeter'. Jin-tae is told by his commanding officer that if he can earn the highest award for a South Korean soldier, the Taeguk Cordon of the Order of Military Merit, his brother can be sent home. Jin-tae willingly volunteers for many dangerous suicidal missions. He is quickly promoted to the rank of Chungsa (Sergeant). Soon American-led U.N. forces arrive in South Korea at Incheon.

In the early 1950s, epic battles unfolded in the skies over North Korea as American and Russian fighters faced off in history's first jet war. This program explores the Korean War's aerial tactics, technology, and grim aftermath for downed pilots, many of whom disappeared without a trace.
The Korean War pitted the two most advanced fighters of their day, the American F-86 Sabre and the Soviet MiG-15, in furious air battles in North Korea's notorious "MiG Alley." With the help of dramatic reconstructions, rare archival footage, and interviews with veteran American and Soviet pilots, NOVA puts viewers in the cockpit to experience the lethal split-second duels that erupted in MiG Alley. In the most moving part of the program, NOVA also traces the efforts of three families to learn what happened to their loved ones, all Sabre pilots. Russia's newly opened archives provide some clues, while the Chinese are now receptive to searches of Sabre crash sites on their territory.

History Documentary: 1951 Korean War (Korean War Documentary)
This history documentary, 1951 Korea by BBC, is a fully length Korean War documentary.
The Korean War ("Fatherland Liberation War"; 25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953) was a war between North and South Korea, in which a United Nations force led by the United States of America fought for the South, and China fought for the North, which was also assisted by the Soviet Union. The war arose from the division of Korea at the end of World War II and from the global tensions of the Cold War that developed immediately afterwards.
Korea was ruled by Japan from 1910 until the closing days of World War II. In August 1945, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and—by agreement with the United States—occupied Korea north of the 38th parallel. U.S. forces subsequently occupied the south and Japan surrendered. By 1948, two separate governments had been set up. Both governments claimed to be the legitimate government of Korea, and neither side accepted the border as permanent. The conflict escalated into open warfare when North Korean forces—supported by the Soviet Union and China—invaded South Korea on 25 June 1950. On that day, the United Nations Security Council recognized this North Korean act as invasion and called for an immediate ceasefire. On 27 June, the Security Council adopted S/RES/83 : Complaint of aggression upon the Republic of Korea and decided the formation and dispatch of the UN Forces in Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the defense of South Korea, with the United States providing 88% of the UN's military personnel.
After the first two months of the conflict, South Korean forces were on the point of defeat, forced back to the Pusan Perimeter. In September 1950, an amphibious UN counter-offensive was launched at Inchon, and cut off many of the North Korean attackers. Those that escaped envelopment and capture were rapidly forced back north all the way to the border with China at the Yalu River, or into the mountainous interior. At this point, in October 1950, Chinese forces crossed the Yalu and entered the war. Chinese intervention triggered a retreat of UN forces which continued until mid-1951. After these dramatic reversals of fortune, which saw Seoul change hands four times, the last two years of conflict became a war of attrition, with the front line close to the 38th parallel. The war in the air, however, was never a stalemate. North Korea was subject to a massive bombing campaign. Jet aircraft were used in air-to-air combat for the first time in history, and Soviet pilots covertly flew in defense of their Communist allies.
The fighting ended on 27 July 1953, when the armistice was signed. The agreement created the Korean Demilitarized Zoneto separate North and South Korea, and allowed the return of prisoners. Clashes have continued to the present.

The US reported that North Korea mistreated prisoners of war: soldiers were beaten, starved, put to forced labor, marched to death, and summarily executed.
The KPA killed POWs at the battles for Hill 312, Hill 303, the Pusan Perimeter, and Daejeon—discovered during early after-battle mop-up actions by the UN forces. Later, a US Congress war crimes investigation, the United States Senate Subcommittee on Korean War Atrocities of the Permanent Subcommittee of the Investigations of the Committee on Government Operations reported that "... two-thirds of all American prisoners of war in Korea died as a result of war crimes."
Although the Chinese rarely executed prisoners like their Korean counterparts, mass starvation and diseases swept through the Chinese run POW camps during the winter of 1950--51. About 43 percent of all US POWs died during this period. The Chinese defended their actions by stating that all Chinese soldiers during this period were suffering mass starvation and diseases due to the lack of competent logistics system. The UN POWs, however, disputed the claim by pointing out that most of the Chinese camps were located near the easily supplied Sino-Korean border, and that starvation was used to force the prisoners to accept the communism indoctrinations programs, which were running in full swing after the starvation was over.
The North Korean Government reported some 70,000 ROK Army POWs; 8,000 were repatriated. South Korea repatriated 76,000 Korean People's Army POWs. Besides the 12,000 UN Command forces POWs dead in captivity, the KPA might have press-ganged some 50,000 ROK POWs into the North Korean military. Per the South Korean Ministry of Defense, there remained some 560 Korean POWs detained in North Korea in 2008; from 1994 until 2009, some 79 ROK POWs escaped the North.
The North Korean Government denied having POWs from the Korean War, and, via the Korean Central News Agency, reported that the UN forces killed some 33,600 KPA POWs; that on 19 July 1951, in POW Camp No. 62, some 100 POWs were killed as machine-gunnery targets; that on 27 May 1952, in the 77th Camp, Koje Island (now in Geoje), the ROK Army incinerated with flamethrowers some 800 KPA POWs who rejected "voluntary repatriation" south, and instead demanded repatriation north.
In December 1950, National Defense Corps was founded, the soldiers were 406,000 drafted citizens. In the winter of 1951, 50,000 to 90,000 South Korean National Defense Corps soldiers starved to death while marching southward under the Chinese offensive when their commanding officers embezzled funds earmarked for their food. This event is called the National Defense Corps Incident.

Freedom guardians who risked their lives to help injured soldiers
Arirang TV has prepared a program about nurses and nursing officers who took care of wounded soldiers and civilians during the war on the Korean Peninsula. Their devotion and warm hearts made them the unsung heroines of the Korean War.
The devotion and love of white angels
These people risked their lives to save the lives of soldiers, who were like family to them. They put the soldiers′ needs ahead of their own, and did their utmost to help the wounded survive and recover. Even after half a century these nurses still cry.
Efforts of nursing officers dispatched worldwide
When the Korean War broke out, many countries sent their troops to help Korea. But the troops didn′t come alone - they were accompanied by nurses and nursing officers. Six nations including India, Italy and Norway sent their medics. The United States, which dispatched the most troops, also sent more than 500 nursing officers. The American nursing officers had to work under the same conditions as soldiers.
After the soldiers left following the cease-fire, the nurses stayed.
Their devotion continued even after the war.
After the Korean War, the Republic of Korea was completely ruined. Most of the soldiers returned to their home countries, but the nurses stayed in Korea. To them, the war was not over yet. They stayed to take care of wounded soldiers and war orphans. They believed that their duty was to help Koreans regain stability as soon as possible.
Korean nursing officers who carry on the spirit of Florence Nightingale in the world′s war zones
Sixty years after the end of the Korean War, Korea, a country with a tragic history, is contributing to establishing peace around the world. Korean nursing officers visit disputed regions in various parts of the globe to carry on the spirit of Florence Nightingale, just like the nursing officers from other countries did during the Korean War.

Friday, November 13, 2015, Crocker Missouri: Nick Raines, president of the Missouri Cannabis Restoration and Protection Act was interviewed by Fox News and local newspapers for defending a 78-year-old Korean War era veteran and music producer with luekemia for using medical marijuana. Delbert "Dell Mack" McKinnon from Crocker Missouri represents many medical patients who would like to use marijuana to replace their prescription medication for incurable pain, seizures, leukemia, cancer, strokes, liver damage restoration and much more. Health and Human Services owns the patent to marijuana, first applied for in 1993 and approved in 2001-2003. Dell Mack is the CEO of Dell Mack Productions LLC and Sho-Me-Mo Music Records. Delbert McKinnon was discovered by Sam Phillips of Sun Records in 1952. He has written and recorded his own songs, as well as those by Willie Dixon, including "You Can't Judge a Book by It's Cover" in 1958. A better version was recorded in 1962 and the humble Dell Mack has no argument. He loves his country, he is old school music and he never wanted his illness to be public, until felony charges were filed on him for marijuana possession. Marijuana is against the law, but the same government also owns the patents. Until federal law is changed, medical patients and military veterans are targets of opportunity for summons, tickets, arrests and prosecutions.

This silent, U.S. Navy film from 1954 entitled OPERATIVE MANAGEMENT OF WAR INJURIES IN THE FIELD shows surgery conducted during the Korean War, in the aftermath of a land mine injury to a soldier's legs. A double amputation is required due to the extent of the injury. The film shows the application of pneumatic tourniquets, the preparation of the amputation site, and the surgery itself.
At the 1:51 mark, the famous Eames' designed splint, made of pressed wood, is seen in the film.

War Thunder is a online WWII multiplayer combat game developed by Gaijin Entertainment for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and PlayStation 4. The game is modeled on a free to play system but with the ability to get almost every feature of the game without paying. This may require players complete certain challenges, or submitting user created content such as skins, or camouflage for planes. There may also be other celebratory events throughout the year such as commemorating historic figures in aviation or famous battles allowing players to win the premium currency without any expenditure. There is also a referral service, whereby players can invite people to the game, earning both themselves and the new player an in-game bonus.
The game contains several aircraft, armoured vehicles such as tanks and ships from the Spanish Civil War to Korean War period. The full game currently contains more than 350 aircraft from 5 important different nations and a number of ground vehicles from the Soviet Union, Germany and, most recently, the United States. Further vehicles such as aircraft, ships, and ground vehicles, are to be implemented later.
Most maps in-game are either directly or indirectly based on real battles of the era such as in Stalingrad, Russia or Peleliu, an island in the Palau chain. The average size of maps in the game currently ranges from approximately 65 km x 65 km to 200 km x 200 km, although the engine powering the game is likely to achieve larger map sizes in the future. Estimates are said to be about 300 km x 300 km.

This documentary, produced by the Defense Department, is a concise, easy to grasp history of the war told through maps, memorable "you are there" images and eye witness accounts. You'll learn about strategy and tactics while you see the dramatic ebb and flow of the conflict from the North Korean invasion through the final cease fire. Highlights include rare gun camera footage of ground attacks by a variety of aircraft, including the seldom seen F7F Tigercat, the first Marine helicopter air assault to secure a hilltop behind enemy lines, F-86 Sabres taking on Migs, B-29 strikes, amphibious and airborne attacks, fighting a Winter war, naval support, toe-to-toe combat infantry operations through mountainous terrain and much more.

Learn about aerial warfare during the Korean war. The MiG-15 and the F-86 Sabre were the main Jets in Battle. For the initial months of the war, the P-80 Shooting Star, F9F Panther, and other jets under the UN flag dominated North Korea's prop-driven air force of Soviet Yakovlev Yak-9 and Lavochkin La-9s. The balance would shift with the arrival of the swept-wing Soviet MiG-15.
The Chinese intervention in late October 1950 bolstered the Korean People's Air Force (KPAF) of North Korea with the MiG-15, one of the world's most advanced jet fighters. The fast, heavily armed MiG outflew first-generation UN jets such as the F-80 (United States Air Force) and Gloster Meteors (Royal Australian Air Force) posing a real threat to B-29 Superfortress bombers even under fighter escort. Fearful of confronting the United States directly, the Soviet Union denied involvement of their personnel in anything other than an advisory role, but air combat quickly resulted in Soviet pilots dropping their code signals and speaking over the wireless in Russian. This known direct Soviet participation was a casus belli that the UN Command deliberately overlooked, lest the war for the Korean peninsula expand to include the Soviet Union, and potentially escalate into atomic warfare. p-80 shooting star f9f panther un yakovlev yak-9 lavochkin la-9 mig-15 chinese korean people's air force jet fighters f-80 gloster meteors korea dogfighting mig alley usaf f-86 sabre bombing 4th fighter interceptor wing yalu river air superiority ace aircraft aerial air force soviet union china flying aviation plane airplane

This film is a study of American soldiers helping a nation to rebuild itself. As seen in this film, the savagery and violence created by the war have been wiped away with the generosity and love of the American soldier on duty in Korea. Housing, public buildings, businesses and transportation facilities have been patched together or constructed from scratch. American Army know-how, Army supervision, and Army equipment have played a vital role in this rehabilitation, working closely with the Korean people. Just as important has been the creation of a new Republic of Korea Army. This small force which was available for Korea's defense prior to the outbreak of the fighting, is now a part of history. Thousands of inexperienced young men have been trained by battle-seasoned American and Korean soldiers and turned into a smooth, well-drilled modern army, equipped with American weapons.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
After the First Sino-Japanese War and the Russo-Japanese War, Korea was occupied by Japan (1910–45). At the end of World War II, the Japanese surrendered to Soviet and U.S. forces who occupied the northern and southern halves of Korea, respectively.
Despite the initial plan of a unified Korea in the 1943 Cairo Declaration, escalating Cold War antagonism between the Soviet Union and the United States eventually led to the establishment of separate governments, each with its own ideology, leading to Korea's division into two political entities in 1948: North Korea and South Korea.
In the South Syngman Rhee, an opponent of communism, who had been backed and appointed by the United States as head of the provisional government, won the first presidential elections of the newly declared Republic of Korea in May. In the North, a former anti-Japanese guerrilla and communist activist, Kim Il-sung was appointed premier of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in September. In October the Soviet Union declared Kim Il-sung's government as sovereign over both parts. The UN declared Rhee's government as "a lawful government having effective control and jurisdiction over that part of Korea where the UN Temporary Commission on Korea was able to observe and consult" and the Government "based on elections which was observed by the Temporary Commission" in addition to a statement that "this is the only such government in Korea." Both leaders began an authoritarian repression of their political opponents inside their region, seeking for a unification of Korea under their control. While South Korea's request for military support was denied by the United States, North Korea's military was heavily reinforced by the Soviet Union.
On June 25, 1950, North Korea invaded South Korea, sparking the Korean War, the Cold War's first major conflict that continued until 1953. At the time, the Soviet Union had boycotted the United Nations (UN), thus forfeiting their veto rights. This allowed the UN to intervene in a civil war when it became apparent that the superior North Korean forces would unify the entire country. The Soviet Union and China backed North Korea, with the later participation of millions of Chinese troops. After an ebb and flow that saw both sides almost pushed to the brink of extinction, and massive losses among Korean civilians in both the north and the south, the war eventually reached a stalemate. The 1953 armistice, never signed by South Korea, split the peninsula along the demilitarized zone near the original demarcation line. No peace treaty was ever signed, resulting in the two countries remaining technically at war. Over 1.2 million people died during the Korean War.

'There's nothing as mighty and bold in "war" as the tank. The role it plays in combat and in training is spectacularly pictured in "Armored Force." Nothing has been omitted from this presentation -- all the latest designs and equipment are pictured to give the show a "this-is-the-latest" flavor.'
Public domain film from the Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and mild video noise reduction applied.
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).

A tank is a large type of armoured fighting vehicle with tracks, designed for front-line combat. Modern tanks are strong mobile land weapons platforms, mounting a large-calibre cannon in a rotating gun turret. They combine this with heavy vehicle armour providing protection for the crew of the weapon and operational mobility, which allows them to position on the battlefield in advantageous locations. These features enable the tank to have enormous capability to perform well in a tactical situation: the combination of strong weapons fire from their tank gun and their ability to resist enemy fire means the tank can take hold of and control an area of the battle and prevent other enemy vehicles from advancing, for example. In both offensive and defensive roles, they are powerful units able to perform all primary tasks required of armoured troops on the battlefield. The modern tank was the result of a century of development from primitive armoured vehicles, due to improvements in technology such as the internal combustion engine, which allowed the rapid movement of heavy equipment required to construct armoured vehicles. As a result of these advances, tanks underwent tremendous shifts in capability during the World Wars of the 20th century.
Tanks in World War I were developed separately and simultaneously by Great Britain and France as a means to break the deadlock of trench warfare on the Western Front. Their first use in combat was by the British Army on September 15, 1916 between the villages of Flers and Courcelette, during the Battle of the Somme. The name "tank" was adopted by the British during the early stages of their development, as a security measure to conceal their purpose (see etymology). While the French and British built thousands of tanks between them, Germany was unconvinced of the tank's potential, and built only twenty of her own.
Tanks of the interwar period evolved into the designs of World War II. Important concepts of armoured warfare were developed; the Soviet Union launched the first mass tank/air attack at Khalkhin Gol (Nomonhan) in August 1939,[3] which later resulted in the T-34, a predecessor of the main battle tank; this was quickly followed up by Germany on a larger scale when they introduced blitzkrieg ('lightning war') less than two weeks later; a technique which made use of massed concentrations of tanks supported by artillery and air power to break through the enemy front and cause a complete collapse in enemy resistance and morale.
The widespread introduction of HEAT warheads during the second half of WWII led to lightweight anti-tank weapons with considerable power. This caused major changes in tank doctrine and the introduction of effective combined arms tactics. Tanks in the Cold War were designed with these weapons in mind, and led to greatly improved armours during the 1960s, especially composite armour. Improved engines, transmissions and suspensions allowed tanks of this period to grow larger. Aspects of gun technology changed significantly as well, with advances in shell design.
During the 20th century, main battle tanks were considered a key component of modern armies. In the 21st century, with the increasing role of asymmetrical warfare and the end of the Cold War, that also contributed to the increase of cost-effective Russian anti-tank weapons worldwide, the importance of tanks has waned. Modern tanks seldom operate alone, as they are organized into combined arms units which involve the support of infantry, who may accompany the tanks in infantry fighting vehicles. They are also usually supported by reconnaissance or ground-attack aircraft...
