President Park Geun-hye, who cleared her schedule to keep tabs on the security situation on the peninsula, paid a surprise visit to a key military base today.
There,... she ordered rapid response to any North Korean provocations.
Choi You-sun reports.
At the headquarters of the Third Army south of Seoul, the base overseeing the South Korean troops at the western front, ...which was targeted by North Korean artillery fire on Thursday,... President Park expressed zero tolerance for Pyongyang endangering South Korean people.
After being briefed on the current situation, she took note of the South Korean military′s quick and stern response to Thursday′s attack.
President Park then called on the military to maintain readiness to immediately counter any additional provocation by the North.
″If North Korea does carry out another provocation, I ask that you strike first. Like I′ve said many times before, I trust our military′s judgment.″
By visiting the military base as South Korea′s commander-in-chief, President Park displayed her principle and will for a firm response, while seeking to boost the troops′ morale.
″Our military has shown its will for a strong response and I believe that winning in the mind leads to winning in reality.″
She also ordered the armed forces to place priority on protecting the people.
President Park called off other plans on Friday, to keep a close eye on movements north of the border.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered his troops near the border to enter a wartime state Friday, and vowed more military action Saturday, unless Seoul stops its anti-Pyongyang broadcasts.
The presidential office in Seoul will be working throughout the weekend and is expected to convene another meeting of the National Security Council′s standing committee on Saturday.

China commemorated the 70th anniversary of its victory over Japan in World War Two with grand celebrations, watched all around the globe.
President Park Geun-hye, along with dozens of world leaders have joined Chinese President Xi Jinping for the ceremony, the highlight of which, a massive military parade through Beijing′s Tiananmen Square.
Our Choi You-sun , who′s traveling with President Park sent us this report.
Under clear skies, tens of thousands of people gathered at Tiananmen Square to celebrate China′s victory in World War Two following Japan′s surrender 70 years ago.
Addressing the crowd, President Xi Jinping paid tribute to the Chinese who fought and defeated Japan′s aggressions in the War.
He also vowed to cut 300-thousand of China′s military personnel.
Looking over Tiananmen Square, President Park Geun-hye was seated on President Xi′s right, two seats away and next to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This reflects how much Seoul and Beijing′s relations have developed in stark contrast to Beijing′s ties with traditional ally Pyongyang.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un did not attend, with his envoy Choe Ryong-hae seated a distance from the Chinese leader.
Some 12-thousand troops, 2-hundred aircraft, as well as tanks and missiles were showcased through the Square, and Chinese state media reported that some 80 percent of the machinery was unveiled for the first time.
President Park′s attendance at the Chinese military parade, the centerpiece of Thursday′s ceremonies, garnered media attention after U.S. President Barack Obama and most Western leaders, decided not to attend.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was also absent.
The Western states view the parade as both anti-Japanese and Beijing′s way of flaunting its military prowess amid growing tensions in the region.
The Korean president′s attendance is viewed as Seoul′s way of trying to take the diplomatic initiative in the region... and balance its relations with key ally, Washington, and major regional partner, Beijing.
″After the parade, President Park joined other VIP guests at a luncheon hosted by President Xi, where he is reported to have ordered officials to provide extra care for the Korean leader. President Park now travels to Shanghai, to mark the re-opening of the headquarters of Korea′s provisional government during Japan′s colonial rule.

President Park Geun-hye arrived in the Philippines,... the second leg of her three-nation tour.
There, she will attend the APEC summit.
Hwang Sung-hee files this report from Manila.
At this year′s APEC summit, President Park and other Asia-Pacific leaders will work on building inclusive economies and sustainable and resilient communities.
The two-day summit brings together 21 world leaders, from countries including the United States, Japan and China.
The APEC nations account for nearly 60 percent of the global GDP and almost half of the world′s trade volume.
On Wednesday, President Park is set to meet with the APEC Business Advisory Council and hold an unofficial dialogue with the Pacific Alliance a Latin American trade bloc composed of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
The real game will be Thursday′s summit, where President Park will lay out specific policy directives for inclusive growth based on South Korea′s development experience.
These include more support for small and mid-sized firms, human resources development and bolstering rural communities.
And as the summit comes just days after the deadly terror attacks in Paris, world leaders will also discuss ways to counter terrorism toward the construction of a sustainable economic community.
The Philippines has vowed to tighten security, and has closed major streets and declared the next two days public holidays to ensure a safe and efficient summit.
″President Park is expected to reiterate South Korea′s willingness to contribute to global efforts to combat terrorism... and call on other APEC members to follow suit.

Vowing to further strengthen Seoul′s alliance with Washington, President Park said South Koreans will never forget those who helped them when they were in trouble.

President Park Geun-hye began her trip to Washington... with a visit to the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
In addition to paying tribute to the fallen heroes,... she pledged to further strengthen South Korea′s alliance with the United States.
Hwang Sung-hee has our top story.
Remembering the American soldiers who fought in the Korean War... was the first item on President Park′s itinerary in Washington.
She paid tribute with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Korean War Veterans Memorial on Wednesday,... calling them ″true heroes.″
She was joined by surviving veterans and family members of those who served in the war.
Vowing to further strengthen Seoul′s alliance with Washington, President Park said South Koreans will never forget those who helped them when they were in trouble.
″The Korean War is not the forgotten war, but a living history that people remember, and its meaning is revived.″
More than 36-thousand-500 American soldiers sacrificed their lives during the 1950 to 1953 Korean War.

Earlier this Monday, President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sat down for their first-ever bilateral summit.
The meeting came after a three-and-a-half year freeze... and with thorny matters such as the decades-old issue of the Japanese military′s enslavement of women leading up to and during World War II.
Our presidential office correspondent Hwang Sung-hee reports. Topping the agenda at President Park′s first-ever summit with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was Japan′s wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women.
At the start of the talks, President Park expressed her hopes for the summit.
″I hope today′s summit can be a broad yet sincere meeting to heal the painful wounds of the past so it can be a valuable opportunity for advancing bilateral relations.″
However, Prime Minister Abe′s focus was on building a future-oriented relationship with Seoul.
″I think highly of the steps we took in Japan-Korea relations over the last 50 years. I am willing to work with President Park to open a new era for a future-oriented Japan-Korea relationship.″
More than 200-thousand women, mostly Korean, were forced to serve the Japanese military before and during World War Two.
And, with only 47 comfort women remaining in Korea, President Park urged for a swift resolution, calling it the biggest stumbling block to their bilateral relations.
The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae said the two leaders agreed to work on the issue.
″The two leaders acknowledged that this year marks the 50th anniversary of normalizing diplomatic ties and commanded that the comfort women talks be sped up so the issue can be resolved as early as possible.″
Other agenda items included increasing cooperation on countering North Korean threats as well as Korea′s possible joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Prime Minister Abe said he was closely following Korea′s movements regarding the 12-nation trade pact that includes Japan, and the U.S.
The presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae says Monday′s summit was meaningful as it paved the way for resolving historical issues... and laid the groundwork for further progress in bilateral relations.
Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News.
We′ll be joined live by our Hwang Sung-hee later this hour... for a more behind-the-scenes look at summit talks from the presidential office.

박 대통령, 미국 수출형 훈련기(T-X) 공개 기념식 참석
It′s a new trainer jet... an improved version of the T-50 Golden Eagle supersonic.
Korea unveiled its T-X trainer jet today... it′s designed specifically for sale to the U.S. Air Force.
If the country wins the deal for 350 jets next year, it could translate into more orders down the line and an even stronger alliance with the U.S.
That′s according to President Park Geun-hye.
For details, here′s Arirang News′ presidential office correspondent Song Ji-sun.
The T-X trainer is an upgrade of the T-50, also known as the Golden Eagle.
It′s designed for export to the U.S. Air Force, and meets all of the listed criteria, including compliance with a gravity performance requirement that calls for an aircraft to maintain a set altitude and speed while in flight.
The jet′s predecessor, the T-50, co-developed with Lockheed Martin... has already been exported to four countries, including Indonesia and Iraq.
The new jet was unveiled at a ceremony on Thursday at the Korea Aerospace Industries in Sacheon, Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
President Park Geun-hye said winning the bid would translate into significant gains for the country and its aviation industry, beyond the potential financial payoff.
″The export of T-X trainers will contribute to national security, acting as a catalyst for strengthening the alliance between Korea and the U.S. It will also help maintain peace and stability on the Korean peninsula,... by boosting the compatibility of the two countries′ weapons systems.″
Four other consortiums, like one between Boeing and Saab, are also competing for the bid, and the winner is expected to be announced in 2017.
If Korea wins the U.S. bid for three-hundred-50 trainer jets... it would be worth some eight-point-five billion U.S. dollars.... and 43-thousand new jobs will be created.
Seoul says the order could easily top 2-thousand aircraft in the coming years,... considering the potential for additional orders from the U.S. Navy and third countries after the initial rollout.
″President Park vowed full support for the aerospace industry,... saying the sector contributes added value through a convergence of multiple industries,... in addition to promoting growth among small and large companies.

President Park′s direct call on the Japanese prime minister to make decision on how to properly address the victims of the Japanese army′s wartime sexual slavery system is an unprecedented move by the South Korean leader.
What is behind the president′s remarks and what led her to make such bold statement?
Our Kim Ji-yeon has an analysis.
For the first time in three-and-a-half years, President Park Geun-hye directly called for Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to resolve the issue of sexual enslavement of women during World War Two... a thorny issue that plays a large part as to why Seoul-Tokyo relations remained frayed.
In a joint written interview with members of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies on Friday... President Park tried to garner international consensus on the so-called ′comfort women′ issue saying it concerns universal women′s rights... and that settling the matter would greatly elevate the status of women worldwide.
These remarks are believed to be geared toward motivating Japan to make a palpable move to resolve the issue, as meager progress have been made even after 10 rounds of working-level talks between the two countries.
″The Korean government thinks Japan is not doing much in proposing a counter-concession plan... and this is what prompted President Park to stress it directly this time. Seoul wants to resolve the comfort women issue through working-level talks while Tokyo wants to discuss various other issues such as Korea′s import regulations on Japan′s fisheries and marine products and the prosecution of Seoul branch manager of Japan-based Sankei Shimbun.″
The expert added that Seoul suggested discussing the issue through a higher vice-ministerial level talks, but Tokyo have so far declined to reply to Seoul′s request... adding weight to the criticism that Japan is refusing to atone for its past wrongdoings.
Tokyo argues the ′comfort women′ issue has already been resolved through a treaty signed in 1965 that settled all reparations.
Seoul, on the other hand, maintains that the treaty did not cover the matter of military sex slaves and demands a formal apology and compensation from the Japanese government for the victims.

Our top story this afternoon,...
President Park Geun-hye, who′s in Shanghai on the final leg of her three-day trip to China, attended a ceremony this morning to mark the re-opening of what used to be the headquarters of Korea′s provisional government during Japan′s colonial rule.
We have our presidential office correspondent Choi You-sun on the line for details.
You-sun.
Mark.
On her final day in China, President Park commemorated Korea′s fight for independence from Japan′s colonial rule, by participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the old offices here in Shanghai, that were occupied by Korea′s government in-exile between 1926 and 1932.
In an address, the Korean president emphasized the significance of witnessing the re-opening of the old headquarters on the 70th anniversary of Korea′s liberation from Japan′s colonization.
She also thanked the Chinese government and the city of Shanghai for their support, including the almost 600-thousand U.S. dollars, that went into renovating the offices.
President Park also had a chance to meet the descendents of Korea′s independence fighters of the colonial period like Rhee Syngman, the first head of the provisional government who would later become Korea′s first president, and Kim Koo, the last head of the government in-exile.
You-sun, President Park talked about emphasizing the need to make right... misunderstandings about the past?
Yeah,... in an interview with the Chinese ruling party′s mouthpiece, People′s Daily, President Park said Korea and China share painful experiences from Japan′s imperialistic aggressions.
She then highlighted the need for countries in the region to work together to move forward based on a correct understanding of history, so that wounds from the past can be healed.
The Korean leader added history is something that lasts eternally and cannot be denied.
Before returning home later today, President Park is scheduled to meet Koreans residing here, and to attend a business forum where investors from both Korea and China will seek new opportunities to expand cooperation.
This was Choi You-sun reporting on President Park′s final day in China.

That said... on this Monday, President Park Geun-hye executed a highly-anticipated cabinet reshuffle - she replaced her minister in charge of economic affairs... AND four other ministers.
Who did the Korean leader choose to bring onboard her administration... going into the fourth year of her term... and can we read between the lines?
Our presidential office correspondent Song Ji-sun joins us from the top office.
Ji-sun, this reshuffle it′s what we′ve been anticipating for the past few weeks... with the general elections nearing by the day.
″Conn-young. Time was running out... and the President could not afford to wait another day. There was no progress being made at the National Assembly on bills aimed at reviving the economy... with pending issues piling up for government officials... and a handful already preparing to step down to run in next year′s general election.″
President Park Geun-hye on Monday announced a cabinet reshuffle involving five ministries and one agency.
She tapped former transportation minister Yoo Il-ho for new deputy prime minister and finance minister. The Presidential Office says that Yoo, an experienced bureaucrat, will help revitalize the economy with his expertise... and carry out reforms that the government has been pushing for.
Yoo said he will maintain policy direction consistent with his predecessor Choi Kyung-whan... but will first have to go undergo a parliamentary confirmation hearing.
Vice Finance Minister Joo Hyung-hwan was promoted to Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy... with current trade minister Yoon Sang-jick expected to run in next year′s general election.
Lee Jun-shik - an engineering professor with more than 20-years of teaching experience... was named Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs... and Minister of Education.
Hong Yoon-shik, from the Office for Government Policy Coordination at Prime Minister′s Secretariat... was named Ministry of the Interior.
Ruling party lawmaker Kang Eun-hee was chosen to lead the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Kang, a teacher turned entrepreneur, also served as spokesperson of the Saenuri Party... and is expected to facilitate employment of women.
President Park also selected lawyer Sung Young-hoon... to lead Korea′s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
″Overall, the president opted to appoint officials with proven track records and experience in their respective fields that will be able to assist her as she enters her fourth year in office. The new cabinet members will get right down to business... to wrap up the year and prepare for next year′s plan. Conn-young.
The nominees, of course, must go through parliamentary confirmation hearings, although they are not subject to parliamentary approval.

Samsung′s Bio-Logics is looking to become the world′s biggest manufacturer of biopharmaceuticals as its chairman Lee Kun Hee... has been investing in new areas to shore up growth for the family-controlled company.
For the latest move by Korea′s biggest conglomerate, we turn to Kim Hyun-bin.
Samsung′s BioLogics revealed plans to invest 721 million dollars in its facility in Songdo to become the largest contract manufacturing organization.
President Park Geun-hye attended the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday hosted by Samsung Group′s pharmaceutical unit, Samsung BioLogics in the city of Incheon, west of Seoul.
President Park vowed to support the bio-medicine industry and emphasized that the industry will spur growth through drastic deregulation and continuous research and development.
President Park singled out the bio-heath industry as a core component of the creative economy which will create high-value products and high-quality jobs.
The completion of the Songdo facility alone is expected to produce 180 thousand liters annually surpassing that of Switzerland′s Lonza group and Germany′s Boehringer Ingelheim.
Samsung BioLogics expects the global CMO market to reach seven-point-two billion dollars in 2017 which is an annual growth of nine-point-four percent, a drastic increase considering the global CMO market was four-point-six billion dollars in 2012.
The company′s capacity will double to 360 thousand liters after its third plant is completed in 2018... as Samsung is vying to become the world′s top manufacturer by 2020.

Korea has unveiled its T-X trainer fighter jet designed specifically for sale to the U.S. Air Force.
It′s a spinoff from its T-50 supersonic trainer, also known as Golden Eagle, that has already been exported to four countries, including Indonesia and Iraq.
If Korea wins the U.S. bid for three-hundred-50 trainer jets... it would be worth some eight-point-five billion U.S. dollars.
Attending the unveiling ceremony, President Park Geun-hye said the alliance between South Korea and the U.S. will become even firmer if Seoul wins the deal.
She added that the government is pledging its full support to the nation′s aerospace sector, which creates added value and thousands of jobs.
In its bid to replace its aging fleet,... Washington is set to buy the new jets next year, with consortiums led by Boeing and Saab likely to compete with the T-X aircraft.

박대통령 "만혼은 일자리 때문…젊은이들 가슴에 사랑없어져"
We need more jobs for jobseekers in this nation.
President Park is calling for efforts to boost efforts in job creation... as lack of decent jobs is one reason behind the nation′s super low birthrate.
Arirang News′ presidential office correspondent Hwang Sung-hee has more on what the Korean leader said at a meeting focused on tackling the nation′s low birthrate and aging population.
President Park has called for stronger efforts to tackle Korea′s low birthrate, blaming the situation on late marriages and a job shortage.
″The trend of late marriages is the biggest reason for the drop in the birthrate in the last ten years.″
Korea′s fertility rate stood at 1-point-2 in 2014... one of the lowest in the OECD.
The country has spent some 68-billion U.S. dollars in the last decade to raise the figure to 2-point-1..., a rate that would keep the population stable.
At a meeting on Thursday, President Park also called for greater job creation efforts, making a note of the government′s push for labor reform.
″The older generation and all economic entities must work on increasing the number of regular jobs by reinstating the dual labour market structure and decreasing the number of work hours.″
President Park said many young people are hesitant to get married due to the high cost of living,... and called for measures to address this issue.
But, she said, government efforts alone will not be enough to resolve the problems associated with the low birthrate and aging population.
″The measures will be most effective when there′s a shift in the awareness, customs and culture of all members of society.″
Wrapping up the meeting, President Park said the most important thing is putting the plans into action,... and she called on officials to continue listening to the voices of the people.

President Park Geun-hye held a Cabinet meeting today and her focus on the eve of a looming deadline in parliament to approve a set of key pending bills was another strong message to lawmakers: Enough with the political wrangling... get on with business and pass a handful of bills that affect people′s day-to-day lives.
Arirang News′ presidential office correspondent Hwang Sung-hee joins us live from the top office.
Sung-hee, what kind of bills are we talking about?
″Conn-young, the focus of today′s Cabinet meeting was getting the parliament to swiftly pass a set of pending bills. That includes the anti-terrorism bill... which President Park said is the only way to prevent terrorism in South Korea.″
At a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Park noted that Seoul cannot fully cooperate with the international community nor exchange intelligence on terrorism without a basic law on the books.
″I made it clear that the parliament will be held accountable if our people suffer damage from an unimaginable terror attack in the future.″
″If the National Assembly calls for job creation but ends up failing to pass the labor reform bill, the people′s hope will turn into disappointment and anger.″
″With the regular parliamentary session set to end on Wednesday, other bills awaiting the National Assembly′s endorsement include one to boost the service sector and another that addresses North Korea′s dire human rights situation, Conn-young.″

President Park Geun-hye is putting the pressure on lawmakers to pass a number of crucial economy-related bills by this Wednesday...
She urged the ruling Saenuri Party to help push things along... otherwise it could face setbacks in the upcoming general elections.
Arirang News′ parliamentary correspondent Ji Myung-kil starts us off.
The National Assembly′s 100-day regular session ends this Wednesday but before it does, President Park has pointed out a number of key items that need to be handled.
She met with leaders of the ruling Saenuri Party to drive her message home.
″President Park said Korean companies are finding it hard to compete in the global market due to economic uncertainties and that parliament should help businesses by passing economy-related bills, She urged for the assembly′s cooperation.″
Rival parties had previously agreed to pass a bill to promote Korea′s service industry sector, with the aim of restructuring the local economy, which heavily relies on manufacturing.
But the opposition bloc is now concerned that the bill could promote the privatization of healthcare services, which the ruling party denies.
There are also five labor reform bills that the president stressed... needs to be passed before the end of the year.
″The purpose of these labor reform bills is to create more jobs for the younger generation. They will also help improve conditions for irregular workers and employees at small companies. There is no reason for the opposition to deny them.″
Negotiations between the two camps were slated to continue in the next extraordinary session, but reaching an agreement won′t be easy with attention quickly shifting to April′s general elections.
President Park also made clear to the ruling party leaders that it′s high time they pass an anti-terrorism bill. She said public safety was at stake.
The legislation, which was proposed in 2001, would put the nation′s top spy agency in control of counter-terrorism activities.
It′s faced roadblocks from opposition camps that fear the spy agency could potentially abuse the authority it gives them and infringe on human rights.

US President Barack Obama FULL Press Conference with South Korean President Park
Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama said Friday that Washington was prepared to "engage" with North Korea, but warned that Pyongyang must first give up its nuclear weapons.
Standing alongside South Korean President Park Geun-Hye at the White House, Obama told a press conference that the US alliance with close ally Seoul was "a lynchpin of peace and security" for the Korean peninsula and the region.
"Kim Jong-Un's missile program achieved nothing except to deepen North Korea's isolation," said Obama, referring to the North Korean leader.
"Today, President Park and I are reaffirming our nations will never accept North Korea as a nuclear weapons state."
Obama said that while he was ready to "engage nations with which we have had troubled histories," he added that "Kim needs to understand it (North Korea) will not achieve the economic development it seeks so long as it looks at nuclear weapons."
"At the point where Kim Jong-Un says we are interested in seeing relations and denuclearization, I think it's fair to say we will be right there at the table," he added.
The US president also said that he "welcomed" Park's Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative -- a forum that would include North and South Korea, the United States, Japan, China, Russia and Mongolia.
The initiative is seen by Seoul as a way to bolster regional cooperation and keep much-constricted diplomatic channels open with its bellicose nuclear-armed neighbor in Pyongyang.
North Korea has conducted three nuclear tests and threatened a fourth as part of a weapons and missile program that it has pursued through a barrage of international sanctions.
The secretive country has long claimed it has technology capable of launching nuclear bombs at its distant enemies, but experts are skeptical whether it has acquired the sophisticated expertise needed to produce such weapons.
Park said that North Korea and its young leader needed to display "genuine willingness" to give up its nuclear program.
"North Korea has to come to its own conclusion that it is genuinely willing to give up nuclear capabilities and become a full-fledged member of international society," she added.

Title: President Park, Abe hold first-ever summit
"I hope today′s summit can be a broad yet sincere meeting to heal the painful wounds of the past so it can be a valuable opportunity for advancing bilateral relations."
However, Prime Minister Abe′s focus was on building a future-oriented relationship with Seoul.
"I think highly of the steps we took in Japan-Korea relations over the last 50 years. I am willing to work with President Park to open a new era for a future-oriented Japan-Korea relationship."
"The two leaders acknowledged that this year marks the 50th anniversary of normalizing diplomatic ties and commanded that the comfort women talks be sped up so the issue can be resolved as early as possible."
Other agenda items included increasing cooperation on countering North Korean threats as well as Korea′s possible joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Prime Minister Abe said he was closely following Korea′s movements regarding the 12-nation trade pact that includes Japan, and the U.S.

Title: President Park, opposition party remain divided on textbook issue
We start with a rare meeting between President Park Geun-hye and the leaders of Korea′s rival political parties.
All pending issues including the dispute on state history textbooks were put on the table.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
The clash point at Thursday′s talks was the government′s push to reintroduce state-issued history textbooks.
"President Park and other participants of the meeting agreed on the need for correct history education but showed a difference of opinion regarding government authorization."
It was the first meeting in seven months for President Park and the leaders from the two rival political parties.
The government wants state history textbooks for secondary schools to eliminate left-leaning contents in existing books.
On the other hand, the opposition party claims this is an attempt to beautify pro-Japan activities during the colonial era and the military dictatorships decades ago.
"President Park expressed disappointment that efforts for a correct history textbook have turned into a political issue and stressed the need for a correct and proud history textbook for the sake of national unity.
President Park′s other agenda items included ratifying Korea′s free trade agreements with China, Vietnam and New Zealand, passing key bills related to labor reform, economic revitalization and next year′s budget,... as well as inter-Korean affairs.
She said Korea′s trade deal with China must come into effect within this year, as a day′s delay is too costly for Korean exporters.
Addressing the reunions for war-separated families, President Park said the event should be held on a regular basis and vowed to expand humanitarian exchanges between the two Koreas.
Hwang Sung-hee, Arirang News.

President Park Geun-hye and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold their first summit on the sidelines of a trilateral meeting with China in Seoul.
Will it serve as more than just an ice-breaker between the two leaders?
Few think so.
Hwang Sung-hee reports.
For the first time since taking office, President Park will hold summit talks with her Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe.
The two leaders will meet next Monday in Seoul to discuss a range of sensitive issues.
"The two leaders are expected to exchange in-depth opinions about pending bilateral issues, including the issue of the comfort women."

Korea wants a sincere apology and compensation for the aging victims, although Japan claims that this was settled through a 1965 bilateral pact and a private fund.
The issue has kept the two leaders wide apart for more than two and a half years.
But there is little hope for any progress in their bilateral ties, with the two leaders not even taking the time to dine together.
"There are no plans to hold a luncheon. This has been settled through discussions between Korea and Japan."
Some say the summit will be no more than just a token meeting on the sidelines of a meeting with China.
"Despite few expecting real gains from the meeting between President Park and Prime Minister Abe, it comes as Seoul hosts its first trilateral summit in over three years with Beijing and Tokyo on Sunday... The move could help with uniformity and better highlight positive aspects of modern Korea, but it could also whitewash some ugly facts.

President Park Geun-hye urges lawmakers to do all they can to stay on course with the latest inter-Korean deal, as it will help pave the way for a peaceful reunification of the two Koreas.
Before official talks on reunions get underway, South Korea′s Red Cross jumps into gear ... updating its list of surviving family members to send over to Pyongyang officials.
For eight straight months, Korea′s exports continues its downward spiral.
But more concerning is monthly outbound shipment figures have dipped below 40 billion dollars for the first time since 2011.

Title: President Park says inter-Korean deal should be enforced for peace, unification
Just a day ahead of summit talks with China,... where President Park Geun-hye is likely to address North Korean provocations,... she once again... underlines the importance of improving inter-Korean ties.
She highlighted the importance of following up on the landmark deal reached between the two Koreas last week... as it will help bring peace and stability to the Korean Peninsula.
Choi You-sun starts us off.
At Tuesday′s Cabinet meeting, President Park emphasized that adhering to the recent inter-Korean deal to defuse tensions will end seven decades of tension on the peninsula, placing both Koreas on a path to peaceful reunification.
"We were able to reach an agreement with North Korea because our people waited with trust and confidence. I ask for your continued support in enforcing the deal."
Speaking publicly for the first time about the deal, President Park said that to help heal their sorrow, reunions for families separated by the Korean War, which is included in the agreement, should resume.
She said the upcoming reunions should pave the way for some 66-thousand family members living in the South, to meet their long-lost loved ones on a regular basis.
President Park′s comments come as Red Cross officials from the two Koreas are set to hold preparatory talks next Monday.
On the domestic front, President Park spoke about reviving the economy and her labor reform drive.
"Since the latest inter-Korean agreement has made a chance to ease tensions on the Korean peninsula, we now need to direct our efforts towards economic revitalization and reforms."
She called on workers, management and government who recently resumed labor reform negotiations, to make compromises for the country and the people.
One contentious issue involves the government′s push to implement a "salary peak" system of extending the retirement age while reducing workers′ salaries.
This, is expected to encourage employers to hire more young people.
Stressing that Korea′s future depends on it, President Park said it is every Korean′s duty to provide good employment opportunities for the country′s young people.

President Park wants the issue of Japan′s wartime sexual enslavement of Korean women resolved by the end of the year.
That′s what she told Japanese dailies the Asahi Shimbun and the Mainichi Shimbun in a written interview.
