To the sounds of Klabbes bank and the song ”Jämtland", Martin Johansson weaves together a text with inspiration from various people, events and phenomenas that has affected him during the years. The result is a set music performance about leaving, returning to and living in Jämtland.
Martin Johansson has worked as an actor, producer and director in theater for the last ten years. He was educated at the University of Lund, Malmö Theatre Academy, Fridhems, the Folk High School of Öland and at Forum Ystad. Previous employers and partners are Kalmar County Theatre ”Byteatern", Theatre Terrier, Jamtli and the National Theatre. Since he moved back to Jämtland in 2011, Martin has mainly directed shows, including Strindberg, Strindberg (and so we), Five ants are more than four elephants and his lates show Christmas time in the present. Martin has for the last few years also been responsible for numerous amateur theater projects and has been acting in for example the family show You poor child. Martin has received the Allan Edwalls Scholarship (2001), Jämtland County Council's Cultural Award (2007) and Östersund Municipality Culture Scholarship (2013). Martin is currently writing a musical based on the artist Annika Norlin Music and is preparing for several future projects.

Jämtland (Swedish pronunciation: [ˈjɛmtˌlanː] (
listen)) (Latin: Iemptia) or Jamtland (Jamtish: [ˈjamtˌlanː]) is a historical province or landskap in the center of Sweden in northern Europe. It borders to Härjedalen and Medelpad in the south, Ångermanland in the east, Lapland in the north and Trøndelag and Norway in the west. Jämtland covers an area of 34,009 square kilometres, 8.3% of Sweden's total area and is the second largest province in Sweden. It has a population of 112,717, the majority of whom live in Storsjöbygden, the area surrounding lake Storsjön. Östersund is Jämtland's only city and is the 24th most populous city in Sweden.
Jämtland was originally an autonomous peasant republic, its own nation with its own law, currency[citation needed] and parliament. However, Jämtland lacked a public administration and is thus best regarded as an anarchy, in its true meaning.[clarification needed] Jämtland was conquered by Norway in 1178 and stayed Norwegian for over 450 years until it was ceded to Sweden in 1645. The province has since been Swedish for roughly 350 years, though the population did not gain Swedish citizenship until 1699. The province's identity is manifested with the concept of a republic within the kingdom of Sweden[citation needed], although this is only done semi-seriously.

Jämtland County (Jämtlands län) is a county or län in the middle of Sweden consisting of the provinces of Jämtland and Härjedalen, along with minor parts of Hälsingland and Ångermanland, plus two tiny uninhabited strips of Lapland and Dalarna. Jämtland County constitutes 12 percent of Sweden's total area, 49,443 km2 (19,090 sq mi) and is the third largest county in the country. The county capital is Östersund and the county governor, appointed by the Swedish government, is Britt Bohlin Ohlsson, who leads the administrative board. Jämtland County borders the counties of Dalarna, Gävleborg, Västernorrland, and Västerbotten. It also shares a border with the Norwegian counties of Nord-Trøndelag and Sør-Trøndelag.
The county was established in 1810 and its foundation has both domestic and foreign causes. Upon formation it only consisted of the provinces of Jämtland and Härjedalen, which is why the coat of arms is a shield parted per fess with their provincial arms.
Jämtland County consists of primarily the provinces of Jämtland and Härjedalen, though minor parts of Hälsingland and Ångermanland are also included, along with small uninhabited areas in Lapland and Dalarna.

To the sounds of Klabbes bank and the song ”Jämtland", Martin Johansson weaves together a text with inspiration from various people, events and phenomenas that has affected him during the years. The result is a set music performance about leaving, returning to and living in Jämtland.
Martin Johansson has worked as an actor, producer and director in theater for the last ten years. He was educated at the University of Lund, Malmö Theatre Academy, Fridhems, the Folk High School of Öland and at Forum Ystad. Previous employers and partners are Kalmar County Theatre ”Byteatern", Theatre Terrier, Jamtli and the National Theatre. Since he moved back to Jämtland in 2011, Martin has mainly directed shows, including Strindberg, Strindberg (and so we), Five ants are more than four elephants and his lates show Christmas time in the present. Martin has for the last few years also been responsible for numerous amateur theater projects and has been acting in for example the family show You poor child. Martin has received the Allan Edwalls Scholarship (2001), Jämtland County Council's Cultural Award (2007) and Östersund Municipality Culture Scholarship (2013). Martin is currently writing a musical based on the artist Annika Norlin Music and is preparing for several future projects.

It is however, not the seat of the municipality, which is Järpen. 25% of the municipal industry is based on tourism, most notably the downhill skiing and biking resorts in Åre and Storlien. The growth in tourism has resulted in the development of hotels, recreational and shopping opportunities in the area.
For more than 1000 years people have lived in the foothills of Mount Åre. 1000 years ago Åre's surrounding areas were inhabited by Vikings and Sami people. This can be seen in the names of the nearby villages, like Fröå and Ullå which descend from names of two Norse gods.
In the 12th century the Åre Old Church was built and people had to convert from their old beliefs. Åre is situated in Åredalen, approximately 400 metres (1,300 ft) AMSL at the coastline of Åresjön. Through Åre goes the European route E14 and the Mittbanan railway, connecting the larger towns Östersund and Trondheim.
Taking advantage of the Åreskutan fell, the major center for alpine skiing in Sweden has become Åre Ski Area, sporting more than 30 modern ski-lifts. It hosted the Alpine World Championships in 1954 and 2007, and the annual Jon Olsson Invitational freeskiing competition, ending in 2007. On March 9--10 2012 the Freestyle FIS World Cup will be held in "slalombacken" close to the village centre.
Åre would also have been the secondary site for the alpine events of Östersund in its bid for the organization of the XXII Olympic Winter Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics.

It is however, not the seat of the municipality, which is Järpen. 25% of the municipal industry is based on tourism, most notably the downhill skiing and biking resorts in Åre and Storlien. For more than 1000 years people have lived in the foothills of Mount Åre. 1000 years ago Åre's surrounding areas were inhabited by Vikings and Sami people. This can be seen in the names of the nearby villages, like Fröå and Ullå which descend from names of two Norse gods.

"After having been away from the mountains of BC for too long I needed to find some mountains to go play in. I had decided I would head to Åre, Sweden's largest ski are. What I didn't realize was that it was quite far north and took a days travel to get there. I hopped on a bus to Ostersund since my guide book said I could take a local bus from there to Åre. However when I got to Ostersund at 7:00pm, this being Sweden everything was shut down and there were no more buses running to Åre and I still had about 150kms to go. So I hitch hiked. Sweden is not the best place to hitch hike in though because there are not many safe places along the highway to stand. In winter your choices are the road or the snow bank! Fortunately a nice paraglider picked me up and drove me into Åre, finally arriving around 10:30pm. Most cheap places were booked the first night due to an university holiday which I was unaware of so I had to fork out a bit of cash the first night to stay in Hotel Tott. The price was fortunately not that bad for the nice room and free breakfast that I got. I was scheduled to leave the next morning from Ostersund but having decided that Åre was a hassel to get to I figured it would be a shame to only ski there one day. So I found a new hostel that had just opened up and found the next cheap train ticket that would take me directly back to Ås and cancelled my bus tickets. If you are going to travel to Åre the best way is either by train of plane! The next cheap train ticket wasn't for another 5 days, so I had some time in Åre.
Being the cheap person that I am I only bought a ski ticket once out of the 6 days I was there. This was only because I figured the weather wasn't good enough for me to go off touring by myself. Other days I would put my skins on my skis and go exploring the off pist areas and backcountry skiing areas. I realized that this was actually the best thing for me to do anyways because the skiing at Åre isn't really any good anyways. It is mostly beginner and intermediate runs, nothing very interesting except for off pist. Åre has a reputation for being Sweden's best skiing but I would say it is really more of a playground for the rich to go and get drunk in. People seem to go to Åre to party and the area is less about the skiing. While I had a good time touring, I would not recommend going there for the skiing. The ski resort also has very bad customer service. At least I got my fix of the mountains and could return home to study some more."
