The Shinkansen(新幹線?, new trunk line), also known as the "Bullet Train", is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies. Starting with the Tōkaidō Shinkansen in 1964, the network has expanded to currently consist of 2,387.7 km (1,483.6 mi) of lines with maximum speeds of 240–300 km/h (149–186 mph), 283.5 km (176.2 mi) of Mini-shinkansen lines with a maximum speed of 130 km/h (81 mph), and 10.3 km (6.4 mi) of spur lines with Shinkansen services. The network presently links most major cities on the islands of Honshu and Kyushu, with construction of a link to the northern island of Hokkaido underway and plans to increase speeds on the Tōhoku Shinkansen up to 320 km/h (199 mph). Test runs have reached 443 km/h (275 mph) for conventional rail in 1996, and up to a world record 581 km/h (361 mph) for maglev trainsets in 2003.
Shinkansen literally means new trunk line, referring to the tracks, but the name is widely used inside and outside Japan to refer to the trains as well as the system as a whole. The name Superexpress(超特急,chō-tokkyū?), initially used for Hikari trains, was retired in 1972 but is still used in English-language announcements and signage.

About 20 minute long journey from Kakegawa to Hamamatsu with Shinkansen N700 Series. As of 2015, the N700 Series is the fastest Shinkansen operating in Japan with a top speed of 300 km/h. The cruise speed on this trip varies between 250-300 km/h. The train departs at 5:12 PM local time.
This was my first bullet train experience. I was so excited, the journey felt like it ended really quickly. Here are my first impressions:
1. The shape, especially the front looks really aerodynamic,
2. It's quiet and smooth as hell even at cruising speed,
3. It didn't feel fast, but it's actually fast as hell.
I'd love to have a longer trip with the N700. P

Starting with the Tōkaidō Shinkansen (515.4 km) in 1964, the network has expanded to currently consist of 2,387.7 km (1,483.6 mi) of lines with maximum speeds of 240–320 km/h (150–200 mph), 283.5 km (176.2 mi) of Mini-shinkansen lines with a maximum speed of 130 km/h (80 mph), and 10.3 km (6.4 mi) of spur lines with Shinkansen services. The network presently links most major cities on the islands of Honshu and Kyushu, with construction of a link to the northern island of Hokkaido underway.
The maximum operating speed is 320 km/h (200 mph) (on a 387.5 km section of the Tōhoku Shinkansen). Test runs have reached 443 km/h (275 mph) for conventional rail in 1996, and up to a world record 581 km/h (361 mph) for maglev trains in 2003.
Shinkansen literally means new trunk line, referring to the high-speed rail line network. The name Superexpress (超特急 chō-tokkyū, initially used for Hikari trains, was retired in 1972 but is still used in English-language announcements and signage.
The Tōkaidō Shinkansen is the world's busiest high-speed rail line. Carrying 151 million passengers per year (March 2008), it has transported more passengers (over 5 billion, entire network over 10 billion) than any other high-speed line in the world. Between Tokyo and Osaka, the two largest metropolises in Japan, up to thirteen trains per hour with sixteen cars each (1,323-seat capacity) run in each direction with a minimum headway of three minutes between trains. Though largely a long-distance transport system, the Shinkansen also serves commuters who travel to work in metropolitan areas from outlying cities. Japan's Shinkansen network had the highest annual passenger ridership (a maximum of 353 million in 2007) of any high-speed rail network until 2011, when China's high-speed rail network surpassed it at 370 million passengers annually.

Fastest Train On Earth, Disappear Within 8 Seconds- The Shinkansen. Japan
The fastest shinkansen trains in service reach speeds of 320 kph. They operate on the Osaka-Fukuoka section of the main shinkansen line. A 320 kph shinkansen---that would equal the speed of the world’s fastest trains in France---are scheduled to operate between Tokyo and Aomori in Japan, with the train reaching a speed of 360 kph on the 100-kilometers extension through Tohuku to Aomori in far northern Japan.
The Shinkansen (新幹線?, new trunk line) is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies.

The E6 Shinkansen, made by the company that designed the first Japanese bullet trains of the 1950s, is set to beat off competition from France and Germany and become the bullet train of choice for new projects around the world.
With top speeds of around 200 mph, the manufacturers are hoping that the train could be used for new high speed routes being planned in Taiwan, Vietnam, and even the United States. President Obama is believed to be keen to use high speed trains to support America's plan to become less dependent on oil.
A route between Tampa, Orlando and Miami is being scoped out, while another between Los Angeles and Las Vegas seems an obvious choice to boost tourism and cut plane journeys between the two cities. Other potential routes are between Baltimore and Washington DC, as well as from Chattanooga to Atlanta.
The E6's distinctive 13-metre-long nose reduces drag and noise, and the company's safety and efficiency record is excellent. The E6's predecessor, currently running on routes throughout Japan, runs within six seconds of the advertised timetable.
Since the first bullet train was introduced in the 1950s, not a single passenger has been killed. New trains can run on conventional tracks, and the E6 is set to start in full service in Japan next year.

Japanese magnetic levitation train could set the world speed record, speeding up to 603 km per hour during test trials
April 21, 2015
JR Tokai is the 21st, conducted a linear high-speed running test of manned in Yamanashi Prefecture of Maglev Test Line (total length 42.8 km), has announced that it has achieved a speed 603 km of the world's highest speed. Linear the same 590 km is recorded in the 16th, just update the world record for the first time in '11 4 months.
According to the company, tests were carried out in the new vehicle of 7 car train "L0 (Eruzero) system". 10 am in the way to Uenohara from the prefecture Fuefuki tunnel 50 minutes around, and ran for about 10 seconds at a speed in excess of 600 kilometers per hour.
Linear Chuo Shinkansen, which aims to opening of 2027, the plan to commercial operation at maximum speed about 500 km. Challenge to the new record gets the necessary data towards the opening, purpose of applying the polish to technology. To obtain data such as air resistance and vibration applied to the vehicle such as the running of 600 km per hour, and that capitalize on the design.
Research Center of Endo Taihe director said, "Superconducting Maglev system (in theory), the more become ultra-high-speed there is stability. I think became better even ride".

300 km/h! Kakegawa to Hamamatsu with Shinkansen N700 Series
Perhaps a journey between Tokyo and Kyoto with this will be perfect. K-ON anyone?
As I don't have adequate knowledge for trains in general, I need your help to tell me additional information and / or corrections in regard of this trip as it will help a ton!
Thanks for watching!

The Shinkansen Fastest E5 & E6 Serice Bullet Train- Japan
Maximum speed 400 Km/h during test run but its top speed was fixed to 320 km/h for passengers and environment.
E & E5 series Shinkansen bullet trains are part of a new generation Japanese high speed train (also called Hayabusa) which was put into commercial operation in March 2011. The train is operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East).
The high speed train runs on Tohoku Shinkansen, a Japanese high speed line connecting Tokyo with Aomori, in Aomori Prefecture. JR East placed an order for a fleet of 59 ten-car sets of the E5 series for delivery from March 2011.
Though the train could run up to speeds of 400kmph during test runs, its top speed was fixed to 320kmph for passenger and environmental comfort, from 2012.
Japan's famous bullet train Shinkansen has been impressive since its debut in 1964. Throughout its operational life, it has not recorded any major accidents and stands as a symbol of safety.
JR East's research programme on the E5 series was initiated in 2002 to design a high speed train which could travel with a speed of 360kmph. These train sets were developed based on the former experimental high speed trains, Fastech 360.
East Japan Railway released the exterior and interior design of the train in February 2009.
The new generation E5 series trains are designed to be more comfortable and faster than ever before. It is designed to be a business and luxury car service. It comes with a premium first class seating area, called Gran Class.JR East's research programme on the E5 series was initiated in 2002 to design a high speed train which could travel with a speed of 360 kmph."
The train features a long nose which extends 15m to the front. It prevents 'tunnel boom', the noises produced due to uneven air pressures when the train enters a tunnel at a high speed. It has a full bogie cover which is soft enough to reduce the aerodynamic sound. The mechanical noise produced during the running is absorbed to a large extent by the equipment and sound absorbing materials mounted underneath.
The train sets are preinstalled with low noise pantographs fitted with sound insulators on both sides. These new train sets use only one pantograph device, unlike the previous models which use two, therefore helping to reduce the noise levels further.
The two very important features in the design of the vehicle are the full active suspension (FSA) and Body Tilting System. Full active suspension reduces the vibration of the moving bogie. The centrifugal force is nullified using the tilting system installed to the bogies.
The integration of these two systems detects and regulates tilt and lateral movements, thereby balancing the sense of shaking on account of the high speed at curves. These successively enhance the ride quality and comfort even at a speed of 320kmph and curve radius of 4,000m.
The state of art braking system installed in the rolling stock intensifies the attachment between the rails and wheels, even at high speeds, and reduces the stop distance marginally.
The interiors feature genuine leather seats and wool carpeting. Dark wood and metallic elements were used create a comfortable atmosphere for the passengers.
Seating capacity and classes on E5 Shinkansen trains
The train has three separate seating classes, namely GranClass, green class and ordinary class. It is configured with ten cars and has a capacity to carry 731 passengers, of which 658 seats are of ordinary class, 55 seats are of Green Class and 18 seats are in GranClass.
The seats come with an electric power recline system with seat back, seat pad foot rests, angularly adjustable reading lamp and built-in seat reading lights. It features a foldable dining table and a cocktail tray under the armrest, as well as a power outlet for laptops and mobiles.
Separate barrier free toilets compatible with wheelchairs are designed for disabled passengers, and special women-only toilets are also included.
Automated external defibrillator is installed in the train cars for any emergency situations. Large LED information and guidance panels are established at the entrance of each car, so as to provide information to the passengers. Contractors for the Japanese high speed trains. The rolling stock is being manufactured by the consortium of two Hitachi and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.

The Shinkansen High Speed (Max. 320 km Per Hour) Bullet Train, Japan
The Shinkansen (新幹線?, new trunk line) is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by four Japan Railways Group companies.
