Zanzibar (
/ˈzænzɨbɑr/; from Arabic: زنجبار Zanjibār, from Persian: زنگبار Zangibār "Coast of Blacks"; zangi [black-skinned] + bār [coast]) is a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania, in East Africa. It comprises the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland, and consists of numerous small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, informally referred to as Zanzibar), and Pemba. Other nearby island countries and territories include Comoros and Mayotte to the south, Mauritius and Réunion to the far southeast, and the Seychelles Islands about 1,500 km to the east. Arab and Portuguese traders visited the region in early times, and it was controlled by Omanis in the 18th and 19th centuries. Britain established a protectorate (1890) that became an independent sultanate in December 1963 and a republic after an uprising in January 1964. In April 1964 it joined Tanganyika to form a new republic that was renamed Tanzania in October 1964. The capital of Zanzibar, located on the island of Unguja, is Zanzibar City, and its historic centre, known as Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site.

William Martin "Billy" Joel (born May 9, 1949) is an American pianist, singer-songwriter, and composer. Since releasing his first hit song, "Piano Man," in 1973, Joel has become the sixth best-selling recording artist and the third best-selling solo artist in the United States, according to the RIAA.
Joel had Top 40 hits in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, achieving 33 Top 40 hits in the United States, all of which he wrote himself. He is also a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and has sold over 150 million records worldwide. He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame (1992), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1999), the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (2006), and the Hit Parade Hall of Fame (2009). In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists to celebrate the US singles chart's 50th anniversary, with Billy Joel positioned at No. 23. With the exception of the 2007 songs "All My Life" and "Christmas in Fallujah," Joel stopped recording pop/rock material after 1993's River of Dreams, but he continued to tour extensively until 2010.

Thousands turned out to cast their ballots in what independent observers agree was a largely fair vote.
The main choice was between incumbent president Salim Amour of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (C-C-M) and the head of the opposition Civic United Front (C-U-F), Seif Sheriff Hamad.
Hamad is pushing for greater independence and, if elected, promises to review the union agreement between Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania.
The turn out was almost too good - some electoral districts reported a shortage of ballot papers as thousands queued to cast their vote in Zanzibar's first free presidential elections.
Joined to mainland Tanzania by a 31-year-old union treaty, Zanzibar may have edged closer to independence when the results are announced.
Rising economic growth in one of the world's poorest nations has prompted growing calls for greater financial freedom from Tanzania.
Zanzibar's current leader, Salim Amour, is running for a second term of office on the strength of the economic up-turn.
It promises to be a close-fought contest, but Amour insists he will honour the outcome of the vote.

I hope you're all having a fantastic 2015 so far!!
Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colourful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.
I visited over the Christmas to New year period 1014/1015, attended the biggest new years eve party at Kendwa beach and got lost on the legendary fairy-tale island of global culture. Its definitely worth a visit! :-)

Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colourful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.

As the Massai did not tolerate foreign hunters, the area of Amboseli at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro has in the main been spared from poachers. Much of the summit of the huge mountain is covered by cloud and at nearly six thousand metres above sea level it is Africa’s highest mountain. Tens of thousands of flamingos transform Lake Bogoria into a colourful spectacle and its many geysers give the landscape an air of mystique, the hot springs highlighting the enormous energy that lies beneath the earth’s surface. Located at the southern tip of Africa, South Africa is surrounded by two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. Both the country and its inhabitants are in many ways remarkable and the cultural variety of several ethnic communities has been well maintained. The Kalahari in Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated areas in the world yet it has been inhabited for thousands of years: its Bushmen are proud of their long history. The San are a tribe of hunter gatherers who continue to use their extraordinary knowledge of nature right up to the present day. Just off the Tanzanian coast is the legendary island of Zanzibar once feared because of pirates but at the same time appreciated for its marvellous spices and in the ancient town of Stone Town several buildings have been restored and now shine out once again in all of their historic glory. Africa, the Dark Continent - but with all the fascinating colours of the rainbow!
