We Wrestle RWE Royal Rumble (Clip Five)
THE pillar slammings, the cross-ring catapults and the cartoon villainy.
House of
Breakthrough’s American-style wrestling championship was a fun, family night out. A capacity crowd of around 1600 packed the Showgrounds
Park event centre for a night of physical but none-too-serious entertainment. The
point of the evening was to reinforce positive messages about support for people battling with violence, drugs, and suicide.

Pastor Norm McLeod told the crowd House of Breakthrough’s We Wrestle event was held to help people wrestling with violence, parenting issues or addictions. “
People lose their match because they try to do it alone. They can’t do it alone.
If I tag with someone, I can do a lot more with others. You can’t win by yourself. Tag with someone and they will help you.” Part circus, part fight club, but more circus, the evening exploded into action with a fiery cannonade from each corner of the bouncy ring. The crowd jumped. They laughed and cheered. Costumed burly men such as the
Hillbilly Kids, including dog-headed
Mad Dog Jimmy, black-vested gimp duo the
Death Dealers, orange-overalled
Demolition Man, the
Chaos Crew,
El Santo Loco,
Ultimate Maori Warrior and the
Italian Stallion, performed an array of aerial stunts, slams and splats.
Compere Mikey Legend! — he insisted on the exclamation mark — had the crowd booing his puffery. “
Hate me if you want to,” he taunted. “
Fear me because you have to.
Respect me because you must.” The crowd went wild. His treachery came to the fore in the tag match when he sneak-attacked one of the
Hermanos Detonators and tossed him out of the ring. A young supporter in the audience waved a
sign that read “
Mexico fears Mikey”. Then came the 20-man mayhem that was the
Royal Rumble. A kapa haka battle between two groups of young warriors ended in a respectful hongi and cleared the way for a titanic clash between
Nati and the Ultimate Maori Warrior. The rules were simple. Two new super-humans flew into the ring every two minutes.
Wrestlers were eliminated when they were thrown out. The last man standing was the title winner. Hillbilly
Billy Boy Blazey was awarded the title-holder’s belt. The crowd went wild.
