High School Basketball at Its Most Intense: Indiana's All-State Tournament (1998)
Subscribe For more videos High School Basketball at Its Most Intense: Indiana's All-State Tournament (1998) Hoosier /ˈhuːʒər/ is the official demonym for a resident of the U.S. state of Indiana. Although most Americans typically adopt a derivative of the state name (either "Indianan" or "Indianian"), these derivatives are not in official use or proper within Indiana. The origin of the term remains a matter of debate within the state,[1] but "Hoosier" was in general use by the 1840s,[2] having been popularized by Richmond resident John Finley's 1833[2] poem "The Hoosier's Nest".[3] Indiana adopted the nickname "The Hoosier State" more than 150 years ago.[1]
"Hoosier" is used in the names of numerous Indiana-based businesses and organizations. "Hoosiers" is also the name of the Indiana University athletic teams and seven active and one disbanded athletic conference in the Indiana High School Athletic Association have the word "Hoosier" in their name. As there is no accepted embodiment of a Hoosier, the IU schools are represented through their letters and colors alone.
The fellowship felt among Hoosiers was referred to in Kurt Vonnegut's book, Cat's Cradle, where it is said that this fellowship is an example of a granfalloon. Vonnegut was himself a Hoosier and a graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis.
In the movie The Outlaw Josey Wales (starring Clint Eastwood), a shop keeper states "He's a Hoosier" to the disgust of an elderly customer.
PFC Bill Smith is referred to by the nickname "Hoosier" in the HBO miniseries The Pacific, as well as in the books on which the series is based (Helmet For My Pillow by Robert Leckie and With The Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge).

Adelaide (Listeni/ˈædəleɪd/ ad-ə-layd) is the capital city of the state of South Australia, in Australia and the fifth-largest city in Australia. In June 2014, Adelaide had an estimated resident population of 1.30 million.[1] The demonym "Adelaidean" is used in reference to the city and its residents.Adelaide is north of the Fleurieu Peninsula, on the Adelaide Plains between the Gulf St Vincent and the low-lying Mount Lofty Ranges which surround the city. Adelaide stretches 20 km (12 mi) from the coast to the foothills, and 90 km (56 mi) from Gawler at its northern extent to Sellicks Beach in the south.
Named in honour of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, queen consort to King William IV, the city was founded in 1836 as the planned capital for a freely-settled British province in Australia. Colonel William Light, one of Adelaide's founding fathers, designed the city and chose its location close to the River Torrens, in the area originally inhabited by the Kaurna people. Light's design set out Adelaide in a grid layout, interspaced by wide boulevards and large public squares, and entirely surrounded by parklands. Early Adelaide was shaped by prosperity and wealth–up until the Second World War, it was Australia's third largest city.Religious freedom, a commitment to political progressivism and civil liberties led to the moniker "City of Churches", which is still used today.
