With a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and Lipid Biochemistry, Dr. Andrea Neal has over 15 years of experience in the management of large-scale international projects, environmental campaigns, scientific research, and business. In addition, she is the CEO and Founder of Blue Ocean Sciences, LLC, and HOPE2O Dr. Neal has given her time to help leading environmental groups as the Science Advisor for Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, 2008-2010, Principal Investigator for Project Kaisei in 2009, and one of the Principal Investigators for the 2011 Lone Ranger Transatlantic Investigation of Marine Pollutants with the Schmidt Ocean Institute. Her team of Disruptive Innovators have conducted three open ocean cruises exploring over 8,000 nautical miles of critical ocean environments, transecting both the North Pacific Subtropical Convergence Zone, Sargasso Sea, and the North Atlantic Ocean, created ground breaking technologies, and are creating tools for people to help them understand their environment. The goal of Blue Ocean Sciences LLC is to combine Research, Development, Productisation, and Business to create tools that are vitally necessary to educate, inspire, and to discover if there are any innovative solutions to the environmental pollutants we all face. Dr. Neal has worked on a wide range of projects including bio- fuel development, nano-toxicity studies, marine debris, bio-remediation, environmental communication development, and educational outreach focusing on environmental toxins. Dr. Neal specializes in creating unique partnerships with people to create a healthier planet through accurate understanding of our impact on the environment, well-executed action plans, and fruitful results. She has implemented and developed many successful campaigns for Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, develops and leads large international multidisciplinary scientific partnerships, and serves on numerous scientific panels including UNESCO’s Global Forum on Oceans, Coasts, and Islands; the Aspen Environmental Forum with the Aspen Institute; and the Honolulu Strategy Document and network. Currently the Blue Ocean Sciences team is working on new technologies in water bio-remediation and detection of different kinds of environmental contaminants including uranium, cesium and other radioactive heavy metals, heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants (POP’s), Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitrates, phosphate, carbon, fecal matter, and metal-oxide nanoparticles.
