Formerly, the Town of Saint Michael, the Greater Bridgetown area is located within the parish of Saint Michael. Bridgetown is sometimes locally referred to as "The City", but the most common reference is simply "Town".
The Bridgetown port, found along Carlisle Bay (at 13.106°N 59.632°W) lies on the southwestern coast of the island. Parts of the Greater Bridgetown area (as roughly defined by the Ring Road Bypass or more commonly known as the ABC Highway),[3] sit close to the borders of the neighbouring parishes Christ Church and St. James. The Grantley Adams International Airport for Barbados, is located 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) southeast of Bridgetown city centre, and has daily flights to major cities in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and the Caribbean. While there is no longer local municipal government, it is governed as a political constituency within the national Parliament. During the short lived 1950s-1960s Federation of the British West Indian Territories, Bridgetown was one of three capital cities[4] within the region being considered to be the Federal capital of region.
The present day location of the city was established by English settlers in 1628 following a prior settlement under the authority of Sir William Courten at St. James Town. Bridgetown is a major West Indies tourist destination, and the city acts as an important financial, informatics, convention centre, and cruise ship port of call in the Caribbean region. On 25 June 2011, Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison were added as a World Heritage Site of UNESCO.

Bridgetown (metropolitan pop 110,000 (2014)) is the capital and largest city of the nation of Barbados.

Bridgetown, the bustling capital and sole city of Barbados, was named for the native Amerindian bridge, which crossed the mouth of the Constitution River. Today the river, also known as the Careenage, slices Bridgetown in two and is mainly used for small pleasure craft. Mega cruise ships dock at an artificial port to the west of town. Steeped in British colonial history, Bridgetown exudes a distinctly English sensibility with a laidback West Indian feel. Island lovers come here from around the world to browse the duty free shops on Broad Street, frolic in the azure waters of Carlisle Bay, and explore the city's museums. History buffs will also enjoy the Barbados Garrison, a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as the city's magnificent colonial buildings
For beautiful places in Barbados I'd recommend the following:
Visit Harrison's Cave
Visit Hunte's Gardens
Take a dive on the Atlantis Submarine
Visit Cherry Tree Hill for breath-taking views of the island
Visit Hackleton's Cliff for breath-taking views of the island
Visit St. John's Parish Church
Gun Hill Signal Station is also fantastic
Visit Archer's Bay, River Bay, Crane Beach, Botttom Bay and Rockley Beach.
Hope this helps
Regards
A vacation in Barbados is not complete without exploring the natural beauty that exists in abundance. The landscape of Barbados is dotted with lush gardens, mysterious caves, and a few national parks and reserves thrown in the mix.

10. Barcelona - The city is a pioneer in smart city and low-carbon solutions.
9. Hong Kong - The city has also been a leader in the use and adoption of smart cards, which are already used by millions of residents for services like public transit, library access, building access, shopping, and car parks.
8. Copenhagen - The city has committed to carbon neutrality by 2025 and 40% of its citizens regularly commute via bicycle.
7. Berlin - Berlin is testing out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies in the hopes of creating a virtual power plant from electric vehicles.
6. Tokyo - The city will create a smart town in the suburbs in partnership with major industry. The eco-burb will contain homes that integrate solar panels, storage ba tteries, and energy efficient appliances all connected to a smart grid.
5. London - also scored relatively high across the board. London has been well-recognized for some of its sustainability innovations (i.e. congestion tax) and its robust transit system.
4. New York - New York scored higher than most other cities in the ranking in all of the categories except of quality of life, where it ranked a poor 47th. It has teamed with innovator IBM to help the city prevent fires and protect first responders as well as identify questionable tax refund claims--a move that is expected to save the city about $100 million over a five-year period.
3. Paris - Paris already has a highly successful bike sharing program, Velib, and just last month, its mayor launched a similar model for small EVs called Autolib.

Stratford Upon Avon tours - William Shakespeare (HD) - Travel Videos - Tours Videos HD
Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town and civil parish in south Warwickshire, England. It lies on the River Avon, 22 miles (35 km) south east of Birmingham and 8 miles (13 km) south west of Warwick. It is the largest and most populous town of the non-metropolitan district Stratford-on-Avon, which uses the term "on" rather than "upon" to distinguish it from the town itself. Four electoral wards make up the urban town of Stratford; Alveston, Avenue and New Town, Mount Pleasant and Guild and Hathaway. The estimated total population for those wards in 2007 was 25,505.
The town is a popular tourist destination owing to its status as birthplace of the playwright and poet William Shakespeare, receiving about 4.9 million visitors a year from all over the world.[3] The Royal Shakespeare Company resides in Stratford's Royal Shakespeare Theatre, one of Britain's most important cultural venues.
History Stratford-upon-Avon
===================
Stratford has Anglo-Saxon origins, and developed as a market town during the medieval period. The original charters of the town were granted in 1196, making Stratford over 800 years old. The name is a combination of the Old English strǣt, meaning "street", and ford, indicating a site at which a road forded a river. The "street" was a smaller Roman road connecting the larger roads Fosse Way and Icknield Street.
In 1769 the actor David Garrick staged a major Shakespeare Jubilee over three days which saw the construction of a large rotunda and the influx of many visitors. This contributed to the growing phenomenon of Bardolatry which made Stratford a tourist destination.
Governance Stratford-upon-Avon
=======================
The administrative body for the town is the Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council, which is based at the Town Hall in Rother Street. The Stratford-on-Avon District Council is based at Elizabeth House, Church Street, and the Stratford-upon-Avon Town Trust is based in the Civic Hall, Rother Street. The Town Council is responsible for crime prevention, cemeteries, public conveniences, litter, river moorings, parks, grants via the Town Trust and the selection of the town's mayor.
Geography Stratford-upon-Avon
========================
Stratford is close to the Cotswolds, with Chipping Campden 10 miles (16 km) to the south. The Cotswolds were a major sheep producing area, up until the latter part of the 19th century, regarded Stratford as one of its main centres for the processing, marketing, and distribution of sheep and wool. Consequently Stratford also became a centre for tanning during the 15th--17th centuries. Both the river and the Roman road served as trade routes for the town.
Suburbs and areas of Stratford-on-Avon include Shottery, Bishopton, Bridgetown, Tiddington, and Old Town.

http://www.TheWineLadies.com http://stpetersbaybarbados.com https://www.facebook.com/IslandViewALillyPulitzerSignatureStore https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pretty-Thingz/171169636304057 Best of Barbados... on your bucket list!Breathtaking Barbados...offers a bounty for all the senses...
As we boarded the plane to escape the record breaking low temperatures here in Toronto little did we know what a paradise awaited us.... that is Barbados and the glorious Saint Peters Bay Resort located on the north west coast of this breathtaking island.
Upon touch down in Bridgetown we "snowbirds" anxiously waited for the doors to open...armed with our ray bans, sunhats and enthusiasm we proceeded to descend the staircase onto the tarmac where we were greeted with a brilliant welcoming sun, a warm, sensual breeze and a brilliant broad Bajan smile! "Welcome to Barbados" exalted our greeter/driver, our tour guide and our instantaneous new friend! This was our introduction to what turned out to be one of the most enjoyable times we have ever spent away from home. The next seven days was to be heaven on earth with wonderful, warm people, glorious accomodations, and loads of exciting activities, historical visits, and fab shopping all packed in between bouts of R&R;, massages, great food and rum punch!
What makes Barbados so special, so captivating, so beautiful? First and foremost, the people. There are no friendlier or more sincere people to be found anywhere than the Bajans here in Barbados. Always quick to smile, offer a hand, or share a story or local expression, you at once feel welcome and relaxed.
And then, there's Barbados, the island.
Barbados, the most easterly of the Caribbean chain of islands is 21 miles long and 14 miles wide. What makes Barbados so special compared to so many other islands is its unique and incredible diversity of the landscape. East coast, wild, untamed, raw energy, mesmerizes. "The Bold and the Beautiful" was shot here for lovers Brook and Ridge. Enjoying the beauty, the power, the rush of the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast.
The rugged north coast where the Atlantic clashes with the Caribbean...
Visit the south for cheerful relaxed beach life, and night life, and the west known as the Platinum Coast.. Barbados offers the visitor a myriad of beaches, of vistas, sites and activities to explore and enjoy.
On the road again.... this time to the old historic town of Speightstown, a mere five minute drive south of Saint Peter's Bay, it is a lively colorful town with much to see and explore. We are about to meet Barbado's version of our "King of Kensington" Clements, who is meant to be our tour guide. With a smile as bright as the Bajan sun Clements welcomes us to what is the "oldest town in Barbados found on the earliest maps of the island" of which he is very proud. First stop...his shop, The Fisherman's Pub, a quaint, happening place to enjoy a myriad of fish, of course including flying fish, the national dish, fried, baked, poached as you wish!
On the boardwalk as we enjoy the breeze and gentle vocals of the sea we take in the sites, unique little shops and a small collection of bars and restaurants. Before heading over to one of Speightstown's landmarks The Arlington House and Museum we break for a cocktail at Bo's Plaice courtesy of John, the proprietor.
The Arlington House is a 17th century single house once believed to have been a chandler. Today beautifully renovated with a state of the art interactive museum it is a compelling place to visit and to learn about the history of the island. We were in store for a little fun and fright as a pirate circa 1800 gave us the "eye" while recounting a story of one wealthy man who decied to become a pirate and command his ship.
Is it cocktail hour yet? Oh yes says Mount Gay Rum Global Ambassador Chesterfield Brown! To conclude this delicious afternoon we meet up with our old buddy Chesterfield Brown from the oldest rum distillery "on earth" we are told! This is a reunion of sorts, as we previously met and interviewed Chesterfield in Toronto for our TV show. Chesterfield travels the world spreading the word and the flavours of the delectable rum that has been quenching the thirst of many since 1703! We enjoy a tasting that includes the latest Black Label rum, a handcrafted blend matured not once, but twice the second time in deeply charred Bourbon oak barrels. Oh.... how sweet it is, bold spice with a splash of oaky vanilla on the palate.
Cheers! Georgia and Susanne... Stay tuned for Part Two!

Building Tourism Calendar Apps: WhatsOnInBarbados CaseStudy

With the rapid rise of mobile use in travel, both for planning travel while at home and using smartphones on location, to find places of interest, book restaurants and get directions to events and attractions, many destinations are creating mobile apps for just about every aspect of travel. Of those building Tourism Calendars of Events for mobile travelers is a priority. Vacations want to know whats on and find fun things to do while in the destination and many are using their smartphones and tables to research events and attraction long before they arrive.
A case in point is the Barbados Tourism Encyclopedia (Barbados.org). One of the early adopters of mobile, they build Apps for Dining On The Move and Travel-On-The-Go. Now with more and more travelers using their iPhones, iPads, Tablets, Blackberries and Androids to find things to do in Barbados on the website "WhatsOnInBarbados.com (WOIB)", the team has created a new kind on mobile solution for the tourism events.
"We did not want to create a mobile calendar application for every device as that would just be too confusing for everyone," says Kathy-Lynn Ward, the lead developer of the BTE apps. "We also know that a standard website app can't take advantage of the internet resources and calendar date pickers etc built into many of the new smartphones."
Under Ward's direction, the team created a hybrid html website app, using native smartphone resources. "Its the app of the future for travel, we believe," says Ward. This means that the calendar can be tweaked to display on any device once the platform is set up.

ABOUT
This video is one of series on how to build a mobile calendar of events application for marketing tourism. This is a short guide to choosing the platform and an example of the app build for the BTE. Watch for more to follow.
www,WhatsOnInBarbadaos.com is the most used and most complete calendar of events in Barbados. The BTE website, Barbados.org, is also the most extensive website of Barbados tourism and the most popular according to the Alexa competitive rank.
The Barbados Tourism Encyclopedia events calendar has been a feature from early days, starting in 1996. Barbados.org has built a grass roots network with all media, TV, newspapers, hotels, local performers, restaurants, bands, tourism operators, museums, universities, theatres and locals who feed in details of events and happenings on a daily basis. Much of the work in monitoring and creating the venues is automated and all of it is checked and approved in house.
Ward says they are willing to help other destinations and will soon have a whole system that can be licensed for a reasonable cost at a fraction of what it would take to build it oneself.
