An acute blood shortage hit the Embu regional blood transfusion centre that distributes blood to 46 other transfusion centres in 9 counties of Eastern and central region.
The management of the centre called on well wishers to donate blood to save the lives of the beneficiaries some who were as far as in Moyale district hospital in Marsabit County.
Regional blood transfusion centre head Sammy Kihara said the centre had the capacity to hold more than 500 units of blood but it had never reached that target and only had at least 300 units which were ready for issuing.
Kihara says there was always a blood shortage when schools were closed as they usually got blood from schools and learning institutions .

Don’t travel with hired guides, travel with the masters of European motorcycling!
Pre-programmed GPS units allow you to take the route you want rather than travel as a group! Tour members receive a tour book describing each route and points of interest along the way, as well as a pre-programmed GPS unit. A meeting each evening gives tour participants even more info on the next day's options. Should you prefer to simply follow, there is also a guide on a bike. Sit back and enjoy the ride, or create your own adventure. The choice is yours.
The Beachs stress the joy of individual exploration. By removing the obstacles and minimizing the problems, they provide an exceptional and memorable experience for the first time visitor as well as the experienced international tourer.
They pay great attention to creature comforts. Nightly accommodations are furnished in quality hotels. Some hotels have saunas and/or swimming pools. The hotels are chosen for a specific reason — be it the view, the area, the owners, or the ambiance.
A luggage van is provided on every tour, allowing you to ride an unencumbered motorcycle during the day.
