In one sense they are the victims - they may be physically attacked and injured or even die. If their husbands are killed they become the head of the household. But at the same time they can also fuel conflict. They motivate the men to fight, they provoke them by shouting encouragement, and when the men return from killing, some women will anoint their heads with butter. If we can teach these women that there is no benefit to fighting we can achieve peace, they will learn that warfare is not the answer." 26.
