Istria is the destination of my “Timeout”, to relax on the Adriatic Sea, enjoy the water and have fun with friends. Istria seems to be the right place – not as overcrowded as Italy
01:26 In Punat the sailing trip begins. First stop is the harbor of Male Losinj, where we visit a Dolphin station and sail out to see the dolphins of the Adriatic Sea in nature. The sea is calm, so we might have a chance of spotting the dolphins.
03:24 Visit of the Late Roman and Early Byzantine Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč. From the church tower we have a beautiful view of Porec. Just outside we visit the stalagmite caves, where we see the rare animal olm, or proteus.
05:22 Paladini further inland is known for its specialty, which can be found under oak trees: black truffle. The truffles are searched with dogs that dig the black truffle. We taste the truffles: A truffle plater and afterwards the specialty of the house – a truffle-egg dish. The black truffles are in season all year round, the white ones only from September to January. The black ones you find on the mountain, the white ones in the valley.
10:17 In the bay of Rovinj we are supposed to get an introduction to diving. The diving teacher explains the basics of diving. The bottle has a pressure of 200 bar, which means that we have 2000 liters of air.
12:35 The hotel manager Peter Lösch tells us that Istria is the Tuscany of the future. Tom, a star-chef, is a well-known TV chef in Croatia: We want the direct contact with the guest, so there is no menu, the menu comes from conversation. We eat Adriatic scampi with chickpea puree, a Japanese Tataki, scallops panfried underneath a paste of white beans, foie gras with salt and sugar, cognac and port wine, duck terrine with white bacon.
17:37 We make a boat tour on the 13 km long Lim canal, also called Limski fjord. Here's a pirate's cave because according to a legend the pirate Captain Morgan lived here. Some call it “Winnetou cave” because the movie “Der Schatz im Silbersee” (The treasure in Silver Lake), with Goijko Mijtic, was filmed there and at Mitvicer Lake.
20:50 We are invited to sample olive at Sandy's, known for producing the best olive oil in Istria. Oliveoil tasting is very similar to wine tasting. We have to pivot the glass with the oilfor two minutes, then smell it and if you taste it then, take a small quantity in the mouth, then you take a small quantity of air and you wait a few seconds before you drink it. When you put the oil in the mouth it's a very intensive taste of green olives, when you drink the oil, than comes the aftertaste that is spicy and bitter. When the oil is spicy and bitter this means that it is full of antioxidants and polyphenols. If you have a sweet taste, then it's a low quality olive oil.

The journey through Istria continues...
01:39 A visit at Ales', who abandoned his top-job to become a bio farmer. He lets us taste his cheese specialties.
04:10 We want to continue on horseback through the countryside. We visit the Barba Tone Ranch where the Western and endurance rider Zoran has built a little horse paradise. Here you can bath with the horses in the lake.
07:18 We stay at the Hotel Lone, a modern design hotel in Rovinj. Sailing lesson at the coast of Rovinj: here we learn the basics of sailing.
10:28 Visit of the city of Rovinj with its promenade, lunch in the seafood restaurant Miriana's. In the evening the Patana-Festival takes place. A Patana is a traditional boat, mostly used in the Adriatic Sea, it is usually 4-8 meters long. We take a tour in a Patana around the peninsula. On that day many ships are on the water, the men sing Italian songs and sail across the sea.
15:54 Chef Tom takes us to Bruno Trapans vineyard. The barrels are made of acacia wood (80% ) and oak wood (20%), so we create a special taste for white wine.
18:57 On the way back we spot a folk festival in the village of Kanfanar and I realize that the music sounds very much like music from the Alps. We learn that this festival is all about oxen. Every year the most magnificent and heaviest ox of the peninsula wins a prize.
19:56 We're going to Hum,the oldest inhabited city in Istria, a picturesque little village on top of the hill.

The Croatian coast, with its unique beauty, characteristic seaside towns, warm, sunny weather, colorful bays, lush, green vegetation, interesting historical monuments is one of the most enticing parts of the Mediterranean. The gem of this magnificent area is the Istrian-peninsula, which is, because of its proximity, one of the most beloved traveling objectives of Hungarian tourists. Its rugged coast hides beautiful bays, and beaches. From among the many sceneries stand out Porec, famous of its mosaics, Pula, with its Roman amphitheatre, Vrsas, showing us a great sight to the islands, and Opatija and Rovinj, which unify the mood of the monarchy and sight of an exclusive beach.

Vacation travel video about destination Koper in Istria.
Koper is a major harbour city in Istria which is located on the Slovenian Riviera. The old town can be entered through the last of the twelve gates of the city’s former defensive wall. A stone coat of arms, various reliefs and inscriptions highlight the long history of the city in which for five hundred years Venetian rule shaped its destiny. An archway in the Praetorian Palace leads to a classic Venetian square, the Titov Trg which dates back to the fifteenth century. The Piazza is one of the most beautiful Venetian squares of the entire Adriatic region and the cathedral which frames the square has numerous architectural styles. Brollo, an area just beyond the centre of the city, served as a collecting basin for rainwater which was drawn by two wells from a cistern below. The Gothic, Fontico, was used for the storage of surplus grain which was distributed to the people in years of hardship. Today Koper is Slovenia’s window to the world and the country’s only seaport.

Vacation travel video about destination Piran in Adriatic’s Istrian.
High up on the cliffs of the Adriatic’s Istrian Coast are the remains of a city wall. The wall was built in the fifteenth century in order to protect against the Turks who were attempting to reach the peninsula from the mainland. Their goal was the Venetian maritime town of Piran, the most beautiful place on the Slovenian Riviera, an enchanting mediaeval town. The charm and flair of old alleys reflect the history of this idyllic town whose origin dates back to the fifth century. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Slavs, a German Emperor, the Venetians and the Habsburgs, they all wanted this town and it prospered accordingly. For more than five centuries the town was under Venetian rule, a time when it took on the form which we see today and from the wide-ranging trade network of the Serenissima, Piran profitted well.

The tiny duchy of Monaco lies on the French Riviera between Menton and Nice. Its mood and elegance attract tourists, millionaires, ship owners, sportsmen, film- and popstars. The casino of Monte Carlo - which was engineered in 1862 by the architect of the Paris Opera, Garnier - is the most famous of its kind in the whole world. The Formula 1 race, when the narrow streets of the city are turned into a racetrack, is also a large event. Among other things circus and opera festivals, art exhibitions, football matches and tennis tournaments await the visitors. The Oceanographic Museum, founded by Prince Albert I. and at a time led by Cousteau, is the worlds largest such institute. In the Jardin Exotique the visitors may see tropical plants, cactuses and pine trees. The guards parade in front of the palace in snow-white uniforms. The buildings of the old city reflect a Renessaince charm and a zest for life. The sea is dark blue in the arms of the large rocks, while in the docks of La Condamine white luxury yachts are floating on the water.

Portugal. The 5 and half thousand square meters large southern part of the once proud colonial empire is Algarve, bathing all year in the sun. From the hilltops, moor forts look down on to the surroundings. In the old towns narrow roads lead up to the magnificent Manuel-style temples. The buildings are ornamented by Azulejos, moor painted tiles. The monuments and statues summon adventurers and explorers: Magellan and Vasco De Gama. The country is full of fishing villages, palm trees, vine arbours, olive tree orchards, and orange gardens. The Playa de Rocha and the other sandy beaches are surrounded by large cliffs, stone archs and lagoons. On the hill of Moniche we travel among pine trees and para oaks. From the lighthouse of the Saint Vincent cape we can only see the endless Atlantic Ocean, which the medieval man thought to be the end of the world.

The second largest island of the Mediterranean managed to keep some of its natural, untouched beauty, which is more and more rare in modern Europe. Large herds of goat and sheep are grazing on the scarcely inhabited Campidoro plain. Here thearchaic patoral culture still lives on. In the Giara di Gesturi National Park a stud of 1500 horses lives completely free. There are almost 8 thousand ‘nurages’, ancient megalithic stone buildings built around 2000 BC. The black diorite, polished by the sea and the wind and the grey granite rocks stand out ouf the blue sea. The island is covered with macchia, a fragrant bush, between them there is myrtle, thyme, rosemary and lavender. The landscape is full of olive trees, cork, almond trees and grape. The narrow alleys of the old towns are edged by Sardinian and Toscan style buildings. If we add to this the beautiful stalactite caves, the monuments of Cagliari, the wild coast of Costa Smeralda, and the magnificent beaches, we can say that Sardinia is the nature lovers’ paradise and a place for an idillic vacation.

Croatia is blessed by an unfathomable natural richness. The lakes of the Plitvice and Krka National Parks, the waterfalls, the rapids and the caves are all among the most beautiful landscapes of the world. The capital, Zagreb, captures the visitor with its inward mood and monarchy style buildings. Beside the warm watered fjords, the river deltas, the green hills, and pine forests many snow-covered mountaintops await the visitors. The smiley islands are providing the tourists various landscapes from the empty cliffs to the lush vegetation. The Adrian Sea with its bay, reefs, tempt us to water sports, and boat adventures, while its beaches promise the visitors a sunny holiday. Every settlement of the country, from the smallest to the largest, is rich in cultural, historical, architectural and artistic values. Beside the romantic, Mediterranean cities, the little bays, the idyllic villages there are baroque and gothic churches, Roman amphitheatres and theatres, sanctuaries from the roman age, golden mosaics, Venetian forts and towers invite us, and of course the roasted food and tasty vines.

Morocco is fulfulling our dreams about the Tales of One Thousand and One Nights even today. It is an exotic and romantic country with the thousand miracles or the Arab world; old cities, mosques, bazaars, natural beauties from palm tree gardens to sand dunes and from the frosty tops of the Atlas mountains to the beaches of Agadir. There are the oases in the Sahara, the colorful buildings of Marrakesh, the Anti-Atlas’s green valleys and the forts of the Foreign Legion. The royal cities are all wonderful: Casablanca, well known from the famous movie with the same title, the capital, Rabat, the ancient Fes, and the elegant cultural centre, Marrakesh. The Djemaa El Fna square has a unique atmosphere, where magicians, henna painters, acrobats, belly dancers, tale tellers from the Sahara, healers, dancers, Koran discussers, snake charmers and cooks make up the colorful market. Morocco with its thousand faces can be found in the buildings, which are incredibly ornamented, the sound of the snake charmers’ pipes, the silence of the mosques, the native people of the Sahara, the turmoil of the bazaar, the smell of various spices, the pattern of the carpets, the medinas conjuring the past, the taste of the mint tea, and it looks the way we always thought it would

James Francis Ivory (born June 7, 1928) is an American film director, best known for the results of his long collaboration with Merchant Ivory Productions, which included both Indian-born film producer Ismail Merchant, and screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. Their films won six Academy Awards.
Ivory was born in Berkeley, California, the son of Hallie Millicent (née De Loney) and Edward Patrick Ivory, a sawmill operator. He is of Irish and French descent, and grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was educated at the University of Oregon, majoring in Architecture and Fine Arts and then at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, where he directed the short film Four in the Morning (1953).
Then he wrote, photographed, and produced Venice: Theme and Variations a half-hour documentary submitted as a thesis film for his degree in cinema at USC. The film was named by The New York Times in 1957 as one of the ten best non-theatrical films of the year. He graduated from USC in 1957.
In 1961, Ivory created the film production company, Merchant Ivory Productions, with Indian-born producer Ismail Merchant and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, who served as the screenwriter for many of their productions. Until Merchant's death in 2005, the company produced a number of award winning films. Of this collaboration, Ismail Merchant once commented: "IT IS a strange marriage we have at Merchant Ivory ... I am an Indian Muslim, Ruth is a German Jew, and Jim is a Protestant American. Someone once described us as a three-headed god. Maybe they should have called us a three-headed monster!"
Merchant was also Ivory's long-term life partner. Their professional and romantic partnership lasted from the early 1960s until Merchant's death in 2005.
In 1985 A Room with a View, based on the E. M. Forster novel, was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, and won three, for Jhabvala's adaptation of Forster's novel as well as for Best Costume and Best Production Design.
A Room With a View was also voted Best Film of the year by the Critic's Circle Film Section of Great Britain, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, the National Board of Review in the United States and in Italy, where the film won the Donatello Prize for Best Foreign Language Picture and Best Director.

Laura Antonelli was born Laura Antonaz in Pola, Italy (present-day Pula, Croatia), former capital of Istria.[1] She moved with her family first to Genoa and then to Venice, before they all eventually settled in Naples. She had a childhood interest in education, and as a teenager she became proficient at gymnastics. In an interview for the New York Times she recalled, "My parents had made me take hours of gym classes during my teens... They felt I was ugly, clumsy, insignificant and they hoped I would at least develop some grace. I became very good, especially in rhythmical gym, which is a kind of dance." Setting aside ambitions to make a career in mathematics, she graduated as a gymnastics instructor. She moved to Rome, where she became a secondary school gym teacher and was able to meet people in the entertainment industry, who helped her find modelling jobs.Antonelli earliest engagements included Italian advertisements for Coca Cola. In 1965, she made her first feature film appearance in Le sedicenni, although her performance went uncredited. Her American debut came in 1966 in Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs. Other roles followed; her breakthrough came in 1973's Malizia. She appeared in a number of sex farces such as Till Marriage Do Us Part/Mio Dio come sono caduta in basso!.
She worked in more serious films as well, including Luchino Visconti's last film, The Innocent (1976). In Wifemistress, a romance film of 1977, she played a repressed wife experiencing a sexual awakening. Later she appeared in Passione d'Amore (1981). Antonelli's most recent role was in the sequel Malizia 2000 (1991). She won the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists Award, Nastro d'Argento in 1974 for Malizia.
On 27 April 1991, cocaine was found during a police raid on Antonelli's home. She was subsequently convicted of possession and dealing and sentenced to house arrest. She spent ten years appealing the conviction which was eventually overturned. In 2006, the Italian court of appeals ruled in the favor of Antonelli and ordered to pay the actress 108,000 euros. Antonelli died on 22 June 2015 from a heart attack at the age of 73
