Dwight Reynolds, professor of religious studies at the University of California,
Santa Barbara, gave a lecture titled "Interpreting the Self: Autobiography in
Arabic Literature." Although self-interpretation, or autobiography, is a genre
of classical Arabic literature in its own right, it has not received much attention
from scholars. This lecture investigated the formation of this literary genre from
its inception until the early 20th century by analyzing the texts themselves with
a special focus on the inherent aesthetic features of this genre: representations
of childhood, the importance of dreams and the use of poetry to express the
author's emotions.

This Video Produced for Poet: Bader Shaker Al Saiab Arabic literature (Arabic: الأدب العربي / ALA-LC: al-Adab al-‘Arabī) is the writing, both prose and poetry, produced by writers in the Arabic language. The Arabic word used for literature is "Adab", which is derived from a meaning of etiquette, and which implies politeness, culture and enrichment.
Arabic literature emerged in the 5th century with only fragments of the written language appearing before then. The Qur'an, widely regarded by Muslims as the finest piece of literature in the Arabic language,[1] would have the greatest lasting effect on Arabic culture and its literature. Arabic literature flourished during the Islamic Golden Age, but has remained vibrant to the present day, with poets and prose-writers across the Arab world achieving increasing success. Badr Shakir al Sayyab (Arabic: بدر شاكر السياب) (December 24, 1926 – 1964) was an Iraqi and Arab poet. Born in Jekor, a town south of Basra in Iraq, he was the eldest child of a date grower and shepherd. He graduated from the Higher teachers training college of Baghdad in 1948.[2] Badr Shakir was dismissed from his teaching post for being a member of the Iraqi Communist Party.

Egypt's Copts make up one of the oldest and largest Christian communities in the Middle East. Yet despite the availability of a large number of books on aspects of Coptic culture, including art and architecture, monasticism, theology, and music, there is to date no single volume that provides a comprehensive cultural history of the Copts and their achievements. Coptic Civilization aims to fill this gap, by introducing the general reader, the interested non-specialist, to Coptic culture in all its variety and multi-faceted richness. With contributions by twenty scholars, Coptic Civilization includes chapters on monasticism, the Coptic language, Coptic literature, Christian Arabic literature, the objects and documents of daily life, magic, art and architecture, and textiles, as well as the history of the Coptic Church, its liturgy, theology, and music.Contributors: Dominique Bénazeth, Lois Farag, Cäcilia Fluck , Peter Grossmann, Gisele Helmecke, Magdalena Kuhn, Marvin Meyer, Samuel Moawad, Elisabeth R. O'Connell, Monica René , Tonio Sebastian Richter, Saad Michael Saad, Mark Sheridan, Mark N. Swanson, Hany N. Takla , Jacques van der Vliet, Nelly van Doorn-Harder, Gertrud J.M. van Loon, Youhanna Nessim Youssef, Ewa D. The Holy Quran
2. Surah Al-Baqara (The Calf)
Arabic and English translation and transliteration
Period of Revelation
Medina (except the last 3 verses which were revealed in Mecca).
Introduction
This surah is the longest surah in the Quran and contains the longest verse in the Qur'an (2:282). The name references verses 67--73 which recall the story of the golden calf worshipped as an idol by the Israelites during Moses' absence.
The theme of Surah Baqarah is divided into two parts: 1) Bani Israel - and talks about the first enemy of Islam
(The Jews) and then 2) Pillars of Islam and Eeman.
Other notable passages include the famous Ayat Al-Kursi or "Throne Verse", as well as the closing two verses which outline the six articles of belief before forming a prayer for forgiveness, divine mercy, and help against enemies of faith.
The surah addresses a wide variety of topics, including substantial amounts of law, and retells stories of Adam, Abraham and Moses. A major theme is guidance: urging the pagans (Al-Kuffar) and the Jews of Medina to embrace Islam, and warning them and the hypocrites of the fate God had visited in the past on those who failed to heed His call.
Hadith: It is reported from 'Uqbah Ibn 'Amir Al-Juhani that he said that Muhammad said: "Recite the last two verses from Surat Al-Baqarah, for I was given them from a treasure trove beneath the Throne" (Ahmad)
English Translation: Sahih International

Mordecai Kedar; 'Islamization' of Paris a Warning to the West
January 25 2015
Mordechai Kedar (Hebrew: מרדכי קידר, Arabic: مردخاي كيدار; born 1952 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli scholar of Arabic literature and a lecturer at Bar-Ilan University. He holds a Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan University.
Kedar is an academic on the Israeli Arab population. He served for twenty-five years in IDF Military Intelligence, where he specialized in Islamic groups, the political discourse of Arab countries, the Arabic press and mass media, and the Syrian domestic arena.[1] The Los Angeles Times' Edmund Sanders described him as "one of the few Arabic-speaking Israeli pundits seen on Arabic satellite channels defending Israel"
WE DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF NON-STATE, NON-NATIONAL LOYALTIES
People tend to think of the Middle East as being composed of ‘states’ just like Britain, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. This is a big mistake. Arab nationalism as an ideology never really succeeded in replacing the traditional loyalties which exist in the Middle East: tribe, ethnic group, religious group and sectarian identity.
