Many thanks to Erin!

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! One Response to “Medusa’s Children”

  1. THX 1138 Says:

A squid harassing burlesque dancers? Did this book cost sick squid?

  2. SI Says:

Must be nice having arms long enough to scratch your ankles.

  3. A.R.Yngve Says:

    *Groan*…
All right — no one is ever allowed to complain about SF “gettin’ no respect” ever again.
    EVER.

  4. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Mass death of sea stars seen off western United States, clearly due to lactose intolerance.

  5. Tat Wood Says:

    @Si: Do mermaids have ankles?

And how can Medusa get pregnant?

This being by a UK author from the 70s, maybe someone was thinking of ‘Pan’s People’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX4xuhPKzrI

If it had been late 70s, maybe ‘Ruby Flipper’

  6. Bibliomancer Says:

Very artfully done. I propose that the modesty sheep be shrunken down to this attractive “pasty” size.

  7. SI Says:

@Tat Wood- OHHH those are mermaids… that makes way more sense now!

Got the Under the Sea song in my head now.

  8. fred Says:

Around The World Under The Sea

  9. Tom Noir Says:

    Hey, nice barnacles!

  10. Rags Says:

The mermaids appear to be limbering up for a yoga class.

  11. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

From Wikipaedia: ‘Shaw had nearly lost his sight through illness, and suffered migraine-induced visual disturbances throughout his life. These, and references to eyes and vision, appear as a theme in some of his works.’ The cover art makes a bit more sense. There being a great huge goliath eyeball in it, if you hadn’t caught on, that is.

  12. A.R.Yngve Says:

The relationship between SF literature and illnesses is an intriguing subject and should be explored further.

    Still, that cover is URRGH…

  13. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Another eyeball cover that appeared on this ‘sight’.

  14. rev Says:

The hard-faced old slapper has a backwards/upside down hand.
And her arm is far too long. I don’t like her.

  15. Stevie T Says:

How about an “Interpretive Dance With Cthulu” tag….?

  16. Lionrock Says:

Meh its just like every other Japanese cartoon I’ve seen.

    Nubile young women? Check.
    Tentacle monster? Check.
Inappropriate and somewhat nauseating combination of first two items? Check.
