Surat ar-Rahman (Arabic: ﺳﻮﺭﺓ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ), or al-
Rahman, is the 55th sura of the Qur'an with 78
ayats. It has the refrain: "Then which of your
Lord's blessings would you deny?"
The title of the sura, which appears in verse 1,
means "Lord of Mercy". The divine appellation "al-
Rahman" also appears in the opening formula
which precedes every sura except Sura 9 ("In the
Name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of
Mercy"). English translations of the sura's title
include "The All Merciful",[1] "The Lord of Mercy",
[2] "The Beneficent", and "The Mercy-Giving".
Scholars have disagreed about whether Al-Rahman
ought to be categorized with suras of the Meccan
or Medinan period. Theodor Nöldeke and Carl
Ernst have categorized it among the suras of the
early Meccan period (in accordance with its short
ayah length), but Abdel Haleem has categorized it
in his translation as Medinan. According to the
traditional Egyptian chronology, Al-Rahman was
the 97th sura revealed.
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said:
'Everything has a bride, and the bride of the
Qur'an is Surrah Al Rahman'
The Holy Prophet has also said:
"Whoever reads it, Allah will have mercy on his
weakness and be regarded as having thanked Allah
for it"
Imam Jaffer al-Sadiq (a.s.) has said:
"Allah will brighten the face of everyone who
recites it often on the day of Judgement"
Sura Rahman is often regarded as "THE BEAUTY
OF THE QURAN"
This is the only Surah of the Quran in which
besides men the jinn also, who are the other
creation of the earth endowed with freedom of will
and action, have been directly addressed, and both
men and jinn have been made to realize the
wonders of Allah's power, His countless blessings,
their own helplessness and accountability before
Him, and have been warned of the evil
consequences of His disobedience and made
aware of the best results of His obedience.
Although at several other places in the Quran
there are clear pointers to show that like the men
the jinn too are a creation who have been
endowed with freedom of will and action and are
accountable, who have been granted the freedom
of belief and unbelief, of obedience and
disobedience, and among them too there are the
believers and the unbelievers, the obedient and
the rebellious, as among human beings, and
among them too there exist such groups as have
believed in the Prophets sent by God and in the
Divine Books, this Surah clearly points out that the
message of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) and the Quran is meant both
for men and for jinn and that his Prophethood is
not restricted to human beings alone.
Although in the beginning of the Surah the address
is directed only to human beings, for to them only
belongs the vicegerency of the earth, among them
only have the Messengers of Allah been raised,
and in their tongues only have the Divine Books
been revealed, yet from verse 13 onward both the
men and the jinn have been addressed and one
and the same invitation has been extended to
both.

Theodor Nöldeke (2 March 1836 – 25 December 1930) was a German Semitic scholar, who was born in Harburg and studied in Göttingen, Vienna, Leiden and Berlin.
In 1859 his history of the Qur'an won for him the prize of the French Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres, and in the following year he rewrote it in German (Geschichte des Korans) and published it with additions at Göttingen. In 1861 he began to lecture at the university of this town, where three years later he was appointed extraordinary professor. In 1868 he became ordinary professor at Kiel, and in 1872 was appointed to the chair of Oriental languages at Strassburg, which he resigned in 1906.
Nöldeke’s range of studies were wide and varied, but the main focus of his work has followed the two lines indicated by his prize essay, Semitic languages, and the history and civilization of Islam. While a great deal of his work (e.g. his Grammatik der neusyrischen Sprache, 1868, his Mandäische Grammatik, 1874, and his translations from the Arabic of Tabari, 1881–1882) is meant for specialists, many of his books are of interest to the general reader.

Ahmed Hoosen Deedat (Arabic: احمد حسين ديدات; 1 July 1918 – 8 August 2005) was a South African writer and public speaker of Indian descent. He was best known as a Muslim missionary who held numerous inter-religious public debates with evangelical Christians, as well as video lectures, most of which centred around Islam, Christianity and the Bible. He also established the IPCI, an international Islamic missionary organisation, and wrote several booklets on Islam and Christianity which were widely distributed by the organisation. He was awarded the prestigious King Faisal International Prize in 1986 for his 50 years of missionary work. One focus of his work was providing Muslims with theological tools for defending themselves against active proselytising by Christian missionaries.[citation needed] He used English to get his message across to Muslims and non-Muslims in the western world.
Ahmed Deedat was born in the town of Tadkeshwar, Surat, Bombay Presidency, British India in 1918. His father had emigrated to South Africa shortly after the birth of Ahmed Deedat. At the age of 9, Deedat left India to join his father in what is now known as Kwazulu-Natal. His mother died only a few months after his departure. Arriving in South Africa, Deedat applied himself with diligence to his studies, overcoming the language barrier and excelling in school, even getting promoted until he completed standard 6. However, due to financial circumstances, he had to quit school and start working by the time he was the age of 16.

Surat ar-Rahman (Arabic: ﺳﻮﺭﺓ ﺍﻟﺮﺣﻤﻦ ), or al-
Rahman, is the 55th sura of the Qur'an with 78
ayats. It has the refrain: "Then which of your
Lord's blessings would you deny?"
The title of the sura, which appears in verse 1,
means "Lord of Mercy". The divine appellation "al-
Rahman" also appears in the opening formula
which precedes every sura except Sura 9 ("In the
Name of God, the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of
Mercy"). English translations of the sura's title
include "The All Merciful",[1] "The Lord of Mercy",
[2] "The Beneficent", and "The Mercy-Giving".
Scholars have disagreed about whether Al-Rahman
ought to be categorized with suras of the Meccan
or Medinan period. Theodor Nöldeke and Carl
Ernst have categorized it among the suras of the
early Meccan period (in accordance with its short
ayah length), but Abdel Haleem has categorized it
in his translation as Medinan. According to the
traditional Egyptian chronology, Al-Rahman was
the 97th sura revealed.
Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said:
'Everything has a bride, and the bride of the
Qur'an is Surrah Al Rahman'
The Holy Prophet has also said:
"Whoever reads it, Allah will have mercy on his
weakness and be regarded as having thanked Allah
for it"
Imam Jaffer al-Sadiq (a.s.) has said:
"Allah will brighten the face of everyone who
recites it often on the day of Judgement"
Sura Rahman is often regarded as "THE BEAUTY
OF THE QURAN"
This is the only Surah of the Quran in which
besides men the jinn also, who are the other
creation of the earth endowed with freedom of will
and action, have been directly addressed, and both
men and jinn have been made to realize the
wonders of Allah's power, His countless blessings,
their own helplessness and accountability before
Him, and have been warned of the evil
consequences of His disobedience and made
aware of the best results of His obedience.
Although at several other places in the Quran
there are clear pointers to show that like the men
the jinn too are a creation who have been
endowed with freedom of will and action and are
accountable, who have been granted the freedom
of belief and unbelief, of obedience and
disobedience, and among them too there are the
believers and the unbelievers, the obedient and
the rebellious, as among human beings, and
among them too there exist such groups as have
believed in the Prophets sent by God and in the
Divine Books, this Surah clearly points out that the
message of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allah be upon him) and the Quran is meant both
for men and for jinn and that his Prophethood is
not restricted to human beings alone.
Although in the beginning of the Surah the address
is directed only to human beings, for to them only
belongs the vicegerency of the earth, among them
only have the Messengers of Allah been raised,
and in their tongues only have the Divine Books
been revealed, yet from verse 13 onward both the
men and the jinn have been addressed and one
and the same invitation has been extended to
both.
