Turku (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈturku] (
listen); Swedish: Åbo [ˈoːbu] ( listen)) is a city on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper. It is believed to have been first settled around the end of the 13th century, making it the oldest city in Finland. It quickly became the most important city in Finland, a status it retained for hundreds of years. After Finland became part of the Russian Empire (1809), and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Finland was moved to Helsinki (1812), Turku continued to be the most populous city in Finland, until the end of the 1840s. Today it remains a regional capital and an important business and cultural center.
Because of its long history it has been the site of many important events, and has extensively influenced Finnish history. Along with Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia, Turku was designated the European Capital of Culture for 2011. In 1996 it was declared the official Christmas City of Finland.

Dizide Hızır Çakırbeyli isimli mafya babasını canlandıran başarılı oyuncu, mimikleri ve konuşma tarzıyla dizinin ilk iki bölümüne damga vurdu. Dizide zaman zaman Karadeniz şivesiyle konuşan Kaynarca, son bölümde dinlediği türküyle ekran başındakileri kendinden geçirdi.

A beautiful trip to northern Europe: Helsinki - Turku - travel by snowmobile - Icehotel - Visiting Santa Claus - Rovaniemi
Our route takes us to Helsinki, Turku, the main cultural centre of the year 2011, and on to Oulu. We cross the Baltic Sea on an ice road to Hailuoto, from here we reach Kemi and further up to the far north with the destination Rovaniemi, the town close to the Arctic Circle.
We embark in Rostock, where we take a ferry to Finland. We already cross thick layers of ice.
01:30 Helsinki is the capital with a population of more than 580,000 residents. This beautiful northern city is Finland’s centre politics, economy, culture and faith.
Orthodox Christians have lived in Helsinki since the Russian rule. Their main church is the famous Uspenski Cathedral.
In Helsinki, we visit the senate square with the monument honouring Tsar Alexander the second for his Finland-friendly politics. The square is surrounded by wonderful classical buildings - the cathedral, the old senate house, the main building of the University and to the south the Sederholm House, the oldest building in the city.
03:26 Turku was named Cultural Centre in 2011 (slogan "Turku in flames"). From the 13th century when it was founded until the 19th century it was the most important city in Finland. The cathedral is the most significant example of church architecture in Finland. The best-known grave in the cathedral is the sarcophagus of Queen Karin Mänsdotter. Something really special is the Sunborn Princess Hotel, a converted luxury yacht.
6:15 Ride on a snowmobile through the wide and snow-covered landscape. We fish in ice holes and eat elk stew and reindeer steaks.
08:25 In the vicinity of Oulu we cross the Baltic sea on a layer of ice 70cm thick. On our route to Kemi we stop to look at the island of Hailuoto, connected to the main land by an ice road. The construction of the hotel begins every year in mid-November and 5-6 weeks later, the hotel can be opened. It is undoubtable a great experience to sllep here. There is no heating and we have outside temperatures up to -40 degrees. In mid-April, we are closing the hotel, the ground starts warming up, then it doesn’t look very nice anymore. We just let it melt, by the end of June is has disappeared. The only thing left to clear up and store for next winter are a few km cables and hundreds of lights.

Inside the building there is a special postal centre, staffed by elves and the legendary time clock. Santa Claus stops time there every year so he can visit all people in one night to deliver their presents.

A beautiful trip to northern Europe: Helsinki - Turku - travel by snowmobile - Icehotel - Visiting Santa Claus - Rovaniemi
Our route takes us to Helsinki, Turku, the main cultural centre of the year 2011, and on to Oulu. We cross the Baltic Sea on an ice road to Hailuoto, from here we reach Kemi and further up to the far north with the destination Rovaniemi, the town close to the Arctic Circle.
We embark in Rostock, where we take a ferry to Finland. We already cross thick layers of ice.
01:30 Helsinki is the capital with a population of more than 580,000 residents. This beautiful northern city is Finland’s centre politics, economy, culture and faith.
Orthodox Christians have lived in Helsinki since the Russian rule. Their main church is the famous Uspenski Cathedral.
In Helsinki, we visit the senate square with the monument honouring Tsar Alexander the second for his Finland-friendly politics. The square is surrounded by wonderful classical buildings - the cathedral, the old senate house, the main building of the University and to the south the Sederholm House, the oldest building in the city.
03:26 Turku was named Cultural Centre in 2011 (slogan "Turku in flames"). From the 13th century when it was founded until the 19th century it was the most important city in Finland. The cathedral is the most significant example of church architecture in Finland. The best-known grave in the cathedral is the sarcophagus of Queen Karin Mänsdotter. Something really special is the Sunborn Princess Hotel, a converted luxury yacht.
6:15 Ride on a snowmobile through the wide and snow-covered landscape. We fish in ice holes and eat elk stew and reindeer steaks.

One of the highlights of visiting Finland was our opportunity to be based in the Finnish Archipelago region for several days at a lovely little cottage guesthouse in Dalsbruk - also known as Taalintehdas. From there we had the opportunity to do adventure sports activities such as sea kayaking, canoeing, bicycling and hiking where we spotted wilderness. Moreover, the laid back pace of life and ample free time ensured we had a chance to sample Finnish cuisine such as rye bread, salmon, cream cheese, Finnish beer, Finnish chocolate and other delicacies such as Finnish pizza with smoked salmon! Finnish food was an immediate hit with our taste buds.
Nearby we had the chance to go island hopping by boat visiting around Kimito Island in the Kimitoon region. Some of the top highlights
From the town of Kasnas we caught a ferry heading to Rosala - home to a fascinating Viking Center. From there we continued on to Bengtskär lighthouse - the most remote lighthouse I've ever visited.
Prior to leaving we made sure to shop at a Finnish supermarket where we picked up Salmiakki, Salmiakki beer and Karl Fazer creamy milk chocolate.
Overall, it was a great change of pace from the chaotic city life we're used to Southeast Asia. We had a chance to relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery and hospitality in the Finnish Archipelago.

The entire northern section of the park is occupied by the palace of the nation as the parliament is called here. The building was designed by French architect Barnabay Giumar. It was finished in 1783 but exactly to the date, 100 years later, it was almost completely destroyed in a fire. The renovated neoclassic palace is where the plenary sessions of the two chambers of the Belgian parliament, the chamber of representatives and the senate are held. The relief on the façade was created by Gilabert Goushal and is entitled the reward of the good and the punishment of evil.
The arch of triumph and the Parc de Cinquantenaire were commissioned by the order of King Leopold II to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the independence of Belgium thus the former unused marsh area of the city was put to use. Eventually by the stipulated deadline, only the park and two exhibition halls were completed where the 1880 art and industrial fair was held. The originally planned arch of triumph was built 50 years later. The designs for the gates of the city were inspired by the Triomphe d'arc in Paris with a four horse carriages and symbolic figures on top and the national press below them. For a period of time, the huge hall stood there empty but later, they were used as a venue for horse races and occasional exhibitions. The area got a new surge of life towards the end of the 20th century. That was when the art nouveau pavilion of architect Victor Otto was opened. The great halls became home to four museums. The Musees royaux d'Art et d'Histoire is mainly dedicated to artifacts of ancient civilizations but it also has a section on industrial design. The Musees de l'Armee is an exhibition of war history and includes an aircraft collection, the Musees royaux del'Armee et Histoire Militaire. The name of the fourth exhibition is Otto World which is probably the best museum in the world on the subject.
Two quarters of Brussels are occupied by the buildings of the European Union. The Quartier European is where the council of ministers and public officers work while the parliament quarter is the in Quartier Leopold. The permanent seat of the European parliament is in Strasberg while the administrative center is located in Luxembourg. But the committee sessions are held in Brussels. The locals call the huge super modern steel frame glass structure, the Caprice des duex which means the whims of the gods. The name also refers to a French cheese packed in an oval container and to the haughtiness of the parliament as well. Many Brusselians are still angry because the charming Leopold section of the city was almost completely swept away to be replaced by the headquarters of the EU. The circle named after Robert Schuman EU politician is an important traffic hub. There's still a little bit of the air lingering of the former Leopold quarter here. The many small pubs in the area are mainly frequented by the officials of the union but are also favorites among tourists.

The new fast ferry is being built by Meyer Turku Oy and will cost around 230 million euros. The start of production of the new LNG fast ferry was celebrated on the 4th of August 2015 at Meyer Turku shipyard and the delivery of the vessel is planned in the beginning of 2017 ...
