Plot: Manipulative high school sophomore Kimberly Joyce leads her friends Brittany Wells and Randa Azzouni in bringing charges of sexual assault against Percy Anderson, their English and drama teacher at an exclusive private school in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile, local reporter Emily Klein, originally assigned to do an insignificant piece on the school, hopes that the scandal will launch her into celebrity in the television news business, while Kimberly's bigoted father, Hank, is concerned primarily with the effect that his daughter's accusations may have on his business.
Keywords: accusation, ambition, american-flag, anal-sex, anti-semitism, aspiring-actress, audition, best-friend, bestiality-joke, beverly-hills-california
Genres:
Comedy,
Drama,
Taglines: Evil comes in a school uniform. The devil wears a grey skirt and her name is Kimberly Joyce. Revenge knows no mercy
Quotes:
Kimberly Joyce: Look, I'm really trying okay, but I don't know how to be sexy! I mean, I'm only fifteen!
Randa: [while watching pornography in which a woman is moaning loudly] How... how is it, please, that two men... at one time... how can this be?::Kimberly Joyce: One of them is doing her up the butt.::Randa: Up the... such a thing is not possible... it is too small, the aperture.
Kimberly Joyce: Brittany and I are the best of friends; we confide in each other. Like the other day, Brittany confided that she feels dirty when she masturbates, but I told her that it was normal and healthy, even when you do it as much as she does.
Kimberly Joyce: [to Emily Klein, a lesbian reporter] I could never give up men, I like cock too much, but sometimes, I just need a woman's touch.
Kimberly Joyce: Kathy?::Kathy: Yes?::Kimberly Joyce: Kathy!::Kathy: Yes?::Kimberly Joyce: Do you fuck dogs? When you were fucking my dog, he was going like this - [imitates a dog having an orgasm]
[from trailer]::Randa: Then he said, "Now I'm going to touch you on your boobs".::Mr. Anderson: I would never say "boobs", I'm an English teacher! Breasts... I would say breasts.
[from trailer]::Kimberly Joyce: It's like the world is this orchestra and I'm the conductor.
Kimberly Joyce: I have respect for all races, but I'm very glad that I was born white. As a woman, it's the best race to be. Especially if you want to become an actress, like I do. [pause] If I wasn't white, then the next thing I would wanna be is Asian because a lot of men like Asian girls because they think they're docile and subservient and sweet which I don't really think is true because I once met this Asian girl at summer camp one time and she was a real bitch. [pause] If I couldn't be white and I also couldn't be Asian, then my third choice would be African-American because I've always wanted to be a gospel singer and also, black men are more forgiving if your butt gets big. Except I'd definitely want light skin and Caucasian features like... Vanessa Williams or Halle Berry. And finally, you know, no offense or anything Randa, but my very last choice would be Arab. I mean, truth be told you're not in a very enviable position. There's a lot of resentment in this country toward the Middle East and there's a lot of stereotypes floating around which I don't think are true because in the short amount of time I've known you, you haven't tried to bomb anybody and you currently smell okay to me.
Kimberly Joyce: Okay, it is time to open up my Big Bag of Fun. These are assorted items that I've stolen from Dad for our consumption this evening. Item number one, Dad's wine-flavored cigars.::Brittany Wells: Ech, don't those things make you cough?::Kimberly Joyce: No, they're cigars, you don't have to swallow - I mean, inhale. [offers one to Randa]::Randa: No thanks.::Kimberly Joyce: Are you sure, Randa? To become succesful actresses, you have to learn how to smoke them. It's trendy.::Brittany Wells: That's true.::Randa: No thank you, I do not smoke.::Kimberly Joyce: Okay... Uh, item number two, one of my dad's many *many* pornos - Titty Lickers 2: The Search for Golden Curlies.::Brittany Wells: Ew! Why would we wanna watch a porno?::Kimberly Joyce: 'Cause they're funny. Besides, we have to teach Randa about sex and this is the best way to learn. And item number three - and I could get into real real trouble if I got caught with these - Dad's Twinkies.::Brittany Wells: Eh - too fattening.::Kimberly Joyce: Would you *please* stop criticizing everything in my Big Bag of Fun? I spent a lot of time putting this together!
Kimberly Joyce: Put it back on, I wanna watch the Real World.::Brittany Wells: I hate the Real World. those girls are bitches.::Kimberly Joyce: You're a bitch!::Brittany Wells: Yeah, well you're a trollop.::Kimberly Joyce: Fine! [pause] I'm sorry I called you a bitch.::Brittany Wells: It's okay. I'm sorry I called you a trollop. I don't really even know what one is.::Kimberly Joyce: It's a promiscuous woman, often a prostitute.::Brittany Wells: [thoughtfully] Hm...

The United Nations has warned the situation in South Sudan has actually worsened since a peace deal was signed by the president and the rebel leader last month under intense international pressure. Fighting is continuing and more than four and a half million people are now depending on food aid. The US is pushing for an arms embargo and sanctions and the next steps against the world's youngest country will be discussed on the fringes of the UN General Assembly next week. Alastair Leithead compiled this report from Unity State, where terrible atrocities have been carried out against civilians.

The initial conflict may have been based on a power struggle between two of the top members of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement but the divisions between two of the largest ethnic groups, the Dinka and the Nuer, soon became the driving force of tit-for-tat attacks across the country.
The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has warned that they need greater military force to protect civilians in the country and aid agencies are predicting food, water and medical supply shortages. With a humanitarian disaster seemingly on the way, we look at the background to what's going on in South Sudan.

The war in South Sudan began in murky circumstances in mid-December, when tribal factions within the country's army, the SPLA, began fighting each other in the center of the capital, Juba. The SPLA quickly fractured into two camps: an insurgency drawn from members of former vice president Riek Machar's Nuer tribe and troops who remained loyal to President Salva Kiir, of the Dinka tribe. Both sides have been accused of committing gross human rights abuses during the conflict. VICE News arrived in Juba and found the army desperate to dispel rumors that rebels were advancing on the capital. Soldiers were keen to take our correspondents on a trip with them into the bush to recapture the strategic city of Bor from the rebels... only the raid didn't turn out quite as they had expected.

Afghanistan and Pakistan, though situated in Asia, are considered part of the Greater Middle East. U.S. intervention in both Afghanistan and Pakistan started with the Carter Administration after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The relations of the U.S. with Afghanistan and Pakistan have been closely tied to the War on terrorism that has happened there. American policy has been instrumental in coordinating the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan. In recent times, political situations of both countries have been bracketed under a single theater of operations, denoted by the newly coined American term "AfPak."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_intervention_in_the_Middle_East
Sudan -- United States relations are extremely complicated, both politically and economically. China is critical of Sudan's human rights record and has sent a strong UN Peacekeeping force to Darfur. Many Sudanese, both civilians and Government officials say that the interference of the U.S. and other Western nations in Darfur and against leader Omar al-Bashir is part of a covert plot to throw their country in economic (since business relations between the two have been defunct since 1997), governmental, and territorial unrest.
U.S. relations with Sudan were further strained in the 1990s. Sudan backed Iraq in its invasion of Kuwait and provided sanctuary and assistance to Islamic terrorist groups. In the early and mid-1990s, Carlos the Jackal, Osama bin Laden, Abu Nidal, and other terrorist leaders resided in Khartoum. Sudan's role in the radical Pan-Arab Islamic Conference represented a matter of great concern to the security of American officials and dependents in Khartoum, resulting in several drawdowns and/or evacuations of U.S. personnel from Khartoum in the early-mid 1990s. Sudan's Islamist links with international terrorist organizations represented a special matter of concern for the U.S. Government, leading to Sudan's 1993 designation as a state sponsor of terrorism and a suspension of U.S. Embassy operations in Khartoum in 1996. In October 1997, the U.S. imposed comprehensive economic, trade, and financial sanctions against the Sudan. In August 1998, in the wake of the East Africa embassy bombings, the U.S. launched cruise missile strikes against Khartoum. The last U.S. Ambassador to the Sudan, Ambassador Tim Carney, departed post prior to this event and no new ambassador has been designated since. The U.S. Embassy is headed by a charge d'affaires.

Cyprus -- United States relations are bilateral relations between Cyprus and the United States. Cyprus has an embassy in Washington, D.C. and a consulate general in New York City. The United States has an embassy in Nicosia. Relations between the two countries can be described as being excellent, both sharing membership in the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the World Bank and the World Trade Organisation. Cyprus has been an observer to the Organization of American States.[1]
According to the 2012 U.S. Global Leadership Report, 26% of Cypriots approve of U.S. leadership, with 35% disapproving and 39% uncertain.

wn.com/Christopher Hitchens American Intervention In The Middle East Foreign Policy, Economy (1998)

The food court we visited was organized at Little Wood, a temporary urban garden in Berlin Mitte which serves as an experiment for metropolitans to explore urban nature. The Contemporary Food Lab, initiator of Little Wood, and Carson Chan, curator of the event, invited chefs from cultures we hear a lot about in the news recently to cook a typical summer dish from their home country. Food gives people direct insights into cultures, talking about food, its preparation and ingredients breaks the ice in conversations and makes us see countries as homes where people live and eat - just as everywhere else in the world.
At Little Wood’s Food Court visitors had the chance to try „Borani“ from Iran, „Mujaddara“ from Palestine, „Kibbe“ from Irak, „Fried Manioc“ from Sudan, „Sabich“ from Isreal, „Borscht“ from Ukraine and more dishes from Tibet, Afghanistan and Syria- all chefs serving their food side by side to international visitors. A wonderful day at the garden, eating into new cultural dimensions.
Chefs and Restaurants featured in this video:
Themroc (Ali from Iran),
Tibet Kitchen (Sonam from Tibet),
Zweistrom (Ahmed from Iraq),
Djimalaya - Hummus & Grill (Ofer from Israel),
Matreshka (David from Ukraine) and
Aga from Syria who cooks at Damas.
Little Wood is open on selected days in September, check out their Facebook page and website for more information.

USA: US ATTACKS ON TERRORISTS IN AFGHANISTAN & SUDAN LATEST

English/Nat
Washington has told the United Nations Security Council that U.S. air strikes complied with international law and a state's right to defend itself.
In a letter to the council president, Ambassador Bill Richardson defended the military strikes, saying repeated threats by Osama Bin Laden's terrorist organization left
the United States with 'no choice but to use armed force to prevent these attacks from continuing.'
After announcing the attack, Clinton cut short his family holiday to return to Washington, on Thursday where he immediately headed to briefings with his national security advisors at the White House.
President Bill Clinton had cut short what was supposed to be a quiet family holiday - much needed after the upheavals of recent days surrounding his sex scandal - to hold a surprise national security briefing.
Defence Chiefs and State Department Aides were called to the White House for the emergency meeting with Clinton, who ordered the air strikes.
It was agreed that the air strikes on terrorist facilities in Afghanistan and Sudan complied with international law and the rights of states to self defence under the U.N. charter.
Washington passed that information onto the U-N Security Council.
Earlier in the day president Clinton announced he had given orders earlier in the day for a military strike against sites in Afghanistan and Sudan which are allegedly "terrorist-related facilities."
According to U-S intelligence, the groups based at the sites are believed to have links to the August 7 U-S embassy bombings in east Africa.
Clinton said the action was taken because the terrorists posed a continued threat to U-S security and American citizens.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Good afternoon. Today, I ordered our armed forces to strike at terrorist-related facilities in Afghanistan and Sudan because of the threat they present to our national security. I have said many times that terrorism is one of the greatest dangers we face in this new global era. We saw its twisted mentality at work last week in the embassy bombings in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, which took the lives of innocent Americans and Africans and injured thousands more."
SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U-S President
The twin bombs which exploded outside the U-S embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killed 257 people.
More that five-thousand-500 people were injured in the attack, mostly Kenyans.
The U-S response included action as well as words.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Today, we have struck back. The United States launched an attack this morning on one of the most active terrorist bases in the world. It is located in Afghanistan and operated by groups affiliated with Osama bin Laden - a network not sponsored by any state but as dangerous as any we face. We also struck a chemical weapons-related facility in Sudan. Our target was the terrorists' base of operation and infrastructure. Our objective was to damage their capacity to strike at Americans and other innocent people."
SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U-S President
The terrorist facilities are believed to be the headquarters for groups with ties to Saudi millionaire Osama bin Laden, the man U-S intelligence officials believe is behind the embassy bombings.
Clinton said the strike should send a strong message to terrorists like bin Laden that the U-S will not be intimidated by such violence.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"Terrorists must have no doubt that in the face of their threats, America will protect its citizens and will continue to lead the world's fight for peace, freedom and security."
SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U-S President
The attacks were carried out at 1730 GMT and took less than an
hour.

The attacks were carried out at 1730 GMT and took less than an
hour.

Looking through some tapes, I came across this Dateline NBC show on an inestigation on the Sudanese "chemical factory" bombings by former US President Bill Clinton. I watched it today and the clues to the BS of the war on terror are here. YOU must watch and pay attention and then ask yourself a lot of questions.
Also take note that they wondered if the US would have to be concerned about terrorism. You know what happen a few years later! How the media is able to predict things with the accuracy of a prophet is beyond me. Also take note of the Pakistan connection. I am sure that with ALL of the terror issues, Pakistan ALWAYS comes up, but yet there is no war with them. That is curious. The US goes to war with countries who are not involved, but leave thoese who ARE involved alone. Mmmm....
After this Times Square BS (it IS BS), that is just a "reminder" to us that terroism is not gone and we should be prepared for the big one that will have to lead us into war with Iran. Do you really think that after all that the US did (9-11 and other terror events) to surround Iran for Israel that they are just going to leave? They WILL attack iran, it is just a matter or when and what excuse they need. They already tried the "social unrust" tactic, but Iran did not fall for it. They keep talking about the nuclear issue, but so far it is not enough to justify war to the rest of the world.
Just be on the look out and remember - if it does not make sense, it does not make sense! Also remember that something has to happen in order for the US to go to war with Iran, so keep that in mind also. These are the same dirty tricks since the CIA was founded and it does not matter who the presidents were/are, they are all on the same team - except the one who was shot in Dallas!

The United States has proposed six rival commanders from South Sudan be the first people blacklisted by the United Nations Security Council for threatening the peace and stability of the world's newest state.
Britain and France have co-sponsored the proposal.
The council's 15-member South Sudan sanctions committee operates by consensus, if there are no objections by Wednesday, a global travel ban and asset freeze will be imposed.
According to the proposal, the governmental leaders include a major general, the commander of the President's guard unit, the commander of sector one, and the commander of the country's third division.
The three rebel commanders are all major generals.
South Sudan plunged into civil war in December 2013 when a political crisis sparked fighting between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and rebels allied with his former deputy Riek Machar.

Fighting has once again broken out between warring sides in south Sudan with each side blaming the other for violating the ceasefire.
South Sudan's army and rebels have traded accusation over fresh fighting that broke out in the north-east of the country. The violence comes as a ceasefire was due to come into effect later in the day to end a brutal 20-month civil war. South Sudan’s army spokesman accused those loyal to Rebel Chief Riek Machar of attacking the city of Malakal on Friday with attacks once again resuming on Saturday. Warring sides in restive South Sudan had ordered fighting to stop after a peace deal under the threat of international sanctions was signed on Wednesday. The accord gave a 72-hour deadline for a permanent ceasefire, due to come into effect around sunset on Saturday.

The Yemen war planned as a blitzkrieg by the Arab coalition has turned into a dragged-out war drawing resources from the coalition and directly Saudi Arabia. Mostly, the intervention has been induced by Saudi Arabias concerns over the strengthening of Iran in the region and will to control a major regional logistical point, the port of Aden.
The coalition Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan and Sudan has created 150,000-strong ground military grouping used for intervention in Yemen. The coalitions air grouping includes over 100 war planes and helicopters.
The interesting fact is Egypt has been actively participates in the Yemeni military campaign on the Saudi Arabias side. On the other hand, Egypt has a neutral position over the Syrian conflict. It clearly shows how tenuous and inconstant Middle East alliances.
The Saudi-led coalition uses modern military equipment and has an advantage in the man power. But the practice shows that it isnt enough. Numerous air raids which target civilians and socially significant facilities dont conduct a support of the Yemeni citizens. Arab media state over 25 000 people mostly civilians have been killed in this conflict.
So, the coalition is involving more and more resources in this intervention. On October 16, a battalion of Sudanese troops arrived in Yemen's southern port city of Aden. Sudan forces are armed by Chinese armaments and equipment; small arms: rifles Type-51, Type-95, CQ, precision rifles M99, machine guns QJZ-89, automatic grenade launchers QLZ-87 and other military systems as antitank guided missiles Hongjian-8, battle tanks Type-96, MLRS WS-2. Also, Sudan military could use aviation Chengdu J-7, Nanchang Q-5 and Hongdu JL-8. According to reports, Sudan military could send one more battalion to Yemen in the nearest future.
Despite this, its hard to estimate the real military balance of pro-Houthi and anti-Houthi forces. There are lots of ground reports about the coalitions losses on the ground. The coalition forces dont have battle experience.
Houthi forces use skilfully the ground relief, local facilities and a concealment practice to inflict damage to ground and air forces of the Arab coalition. Experts believe that the coalition forces wont be able to act successfully in mountainous area and fight local guerilla. Furthermore, Saudi Arabias expectations that Iran wont support Houthis in Yemen have been a mistake.
At the moment, Saudi Arabia and its allies arent ready to participate in the negotiations aimed on a real way to solve the conflict. So, there are 2 main possibilities: First is ground and air forces of the Arab coalition will cut Houthis from the external support, gain enough battle experience and inflict defeat to the Houthi forces. But its unlikely. Its much more possible that the coalition forces wont be able to defeat decisively Hothis. It will conduct jitters among coalition members. Separately, almost all of them have own disagreed interests in Yemen.
Nonetheless, many major world powers are interested in a normal work of the Adens port because of its logistical importance and a stable situation on the main oil trade maritime routes. So, we could expect that the global players will be more and more involved in the conflict. The local conflicts in the Middle East has been turning to a big regional conflict.

Russia has once again expressed its support for Syrian government forces fighting against foreign-backed terrorists in the country.
The top Russian diplomat made the remarks in a joint press conference with his Sudanese and south Sudanese counterparts in Moscow. Regarding recent media reports on Russian military activities in Syria, Lavrov said Russia has long had a military presence in the country and that Russian flights have been supplying Syria with both military and humanitarian assistance. He also denounced certain countries for using terrorist groups to uproot what they deem as undesirable governments.

Israel previously governed the Gaza strip after they had gained control of it in the 6 day war of 1967. In an attempt to make peace, the Israeli leaders signed the "Oslo Accord" in 1993 which gave control of Gaza to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). Israeli forces then left the area. Peace was not forthcoming - as the Palestinians started producing and firing Qassam rockets over the border into Israel.
In 2005 Israel forced its citizens to withdraw their settlements from the area. Again this was an attempt for peace which failed.
In 2006 Hamas, a Palestinian organisation came to power. This group is considered a terrorist organisation by the United States, the European Union, Canada, Japan and of course, Israel.
The intense rocket fire from Gaza upon Israel has been a massive problem for Israel.
The IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) report that over 8000 rockets have been fired into Israel from Gaza since 2001. On Wednesday 24th October 2012, the IDF blog featured a report which highlighted the escalation of attacks:
"In only 14 hours, 73 rockets were launched from Gaza by Hamas and other terror organizations and hit southern Israel. Two workers were injured severely when a rocket hit a farm near Kissufim, and 3 other civilians were injured lightly."
The BBC on Thursday reported that a truce had been met. They recorded that Benjamin Netanyahu had said:
"We didn't ask for this escalation and didn't initiate it," he said on Wednesday. "But if it continues, we are prepared to embark on a far more extensive and penetrating operation."
One recent item of news connected with the problem of Gaza is a recent airstrike in the Sudan on an arms factory. The BBC website issued a report on Wednesday entitled "Sudan blames Israel for Khartoum arms factory blast". The report said:
"The Sudanese government says it believes Israel was responsible for explosions at a military factory in the capital Khartoum on Tuesday. Culture and Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman said four Israeli planes attacked the factory and two people were killed. Israel has not commented. Sudan has blamed Israel for such attacks in the past. Correspondents say Israel believes weapons are being smuggled through the region to Gaza. Leaked US State Department documents three years ago suggested that Sudan was secretly supplying Iranian arms to Hamas in the Gaza Strip."
It will be interesting to see how this situation develops.
The Bible predicts that the Sudan will be against Israel in the latter days, so antagonism between Sudan and Israel is exactly what we expect to see before the return of Jesus Christ to the earth.
You don't actually find the word "Sudan" in the Bible but you find the ancient territory of the Sudan called in the Bible "Cush". This word is sometimes translated "Ethiopia" in the English Bible.
In Ezekiel 38 we have recorded for us the great controversy of the nations in the latter days. In verse 1-9 we have recorded a confederacy united together against Israel which invades from the north. The confederacy is headed up by a leader the Bible calls Gog. The Bible prophesies of the Jews being defeated and on their last legs before Jesus Christ reveals himself in power and glory and saves them. The Jews will then look on one who they pierced and mourn (Zech 12:10) - the Lord Jesus Christ.
What is interesting about the prophecy of Ezekiel 38 in relation to the news stories we have looked at, is verse 5 which mentions some of the nations which are in this confederacy:
"Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them;"
The word translated "Ethiopia" is the Hebrew "Cush". A power which will be antagonistic against Israel before Christ returns.
Daniel chapter 11 is another prophecy about the great northern invasion against Israel in the latter days. This prophecy mentions "Cush" too.

1. Khartoum street and people walking
2. SOUNDBITE: (Arabic) Mohamed Osman, Voxpop
"What happened was a very normal reaction to the wrong American policy in the area. America was trying to fight terrorism, but it was using the wrong policies to do so."
3. People walking in street
4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Mamoun Abdallah, Voxpop
"The attack is unacceptable because they are coming to kill innocent people. But if you want to do something you have to do it through talks, through dialogue - that is what you do. But killing innocent people is unacceptable. That is my point of view. Thank you."
5. Wide shot of the Grand Mosque
6. Close shot of Sudanese newspapers (Saturday editions) - one English and two Arabic (headline in English language paper The Khartoum Monitor reads: 'Sudan will cooperate to fight worldwide terrorism').
STORYLINE:
Reactions to Tuesday's terrorist attacks in the U-S have been predictably mixed in the Arab world.
On the streets of Sudan's capital - Khartoum - people had a range of reactions.
Some people said the attacks were a natural consequence of American policies in the Middle East and that America's approach to fighting terrorism needed rethinking.
Others condemned violence and the terrorist attacks and said dialogue was the only way to achieve peace.
Sudan is one of the countries the U-S accuses of sponsoring terrorists.
If the Bush administration undertakes a military campaign against terrorist groups - suspected bin Laden operations in Sudan could be a target.
Even Pakistan, America's on-and-off ally, is believed to harbor bin Laden camps.
A U-S official says camps in Sudan, Algeria and Pakistan could be targets because they are considered the most active in bin Laden's loose network.

Enormous caravan trains once traversed the Sahara Desert that extends for nine million square kilometres and is the largest desert in the world. Just a few kilometres beyond Sudan’s metropolis of Khartoum in Omdurman is the splendid burial place of the famous 19th century Islamic leader, Al Mahdi, one of the most important exponents of Sufism. It was also Al Mahdi who invaded Khartoum, a city founded by the Egyptians that was later ruled by the British. In the 19th century the infamous warriors of the Hadendoa people were also the courageous soldiers of Al-Mahdi´s army. Today they live in the environs of the Red Sea Mountains where the camel is the only means of transport. Those travelling across the Sahara have always had to cope with the savage climate of the desert and in ancient times, as well as today, the overwhelming heat saps the strength of both man and beast as the daytime temperature can reach a scorching fifty five degrees Celsius. At the foot of the mountain range that we must cross in order to travel deep into the homeland of the Hadendoa we meet a group of wood gatherers. In addition to the trading of camels and goats, the gathering and selling of wood is one of the main sources of income for this unique nomadic people. Without a sound several mounted Hadendoa warriors have approached us. The atmosphere is anything but relaxed and our uncertainty seems to please the warriors who, mounted on camels, are truly menacing. In the past the British army also experienced the wrath of these people. The looks on the faces of the Hadendoa further increases the tension. Finally, after what seems like several minutes, we tentatively step forward. In broken Arabic we try to explain to the warriors that we have journeyed far to meet them. Our initial scepticism is replaced by a long and amicable handshake with their leader that sets our fears to rest. Surrounded by the desert and the Red Sea Mountains and cut off from most of the influences of modern civilization, the legendary Hadendoa Tribe has somehow managed to maintain its unique cultural identity and freedom.

Read the entire issue devoted to South Sudan: http://www.vice.com/read/saving-south-sudan
Late last year, South Sudan's president, Salva Kiir, accused his former vice president, Riek Machar, of attempting a coup d'état amid accusations of rampant corruption within the government. Infighting immediately broke out within the presidential guard, sparking what has now become a brutal tribal and civil war that has pitted Machar's ethnic Nuer loyalists against the majority Dinka, who have sided with Kiir. Machar narrowly escaped assassination, fleeing to the deep bush as Kiir's troops razed his home and killed his bodyguards. And now the world's newest sovereign nation is in imminent danger of becoming a failed state.
In February, journalists and filmmakers Robert Young Pelton and Tim Freccia set out on a grueling mission to locate Machar in his secret hideout in Akobo and get his side of the story. Accompanying was Machot Lat Thiep, a former child soldier and Lost Boy who had advised on South Sudan's constitution and now works as a manager of a Costco in Seattle. Machot acted as a guide of sorts, arranging Pelton and Freccia's rendezvous with Machar through a series of endless satellite-phone calls to old contacts and rebel platoons, who would eventually guide the group to the deposed vice president.
After spending a couple days with Machar, he granted Pelton and Freccia unprecedented access to the front lines of a battle in Malakal, where for the first time in history the pair documented the heretofore mythical White Army as they looted, murdered, and pillaged their way to some twisted interpretation of "victory."
Saving South Sudan is a multi-platform exploration of the horrors of the country's newest civil war. We devoted an entire issue of the magazine to Robert Young Pelton and Tim Freccia's sprawling 35,000-plus word epic exploration of the crisis in South Sudan. It's a companion piece of sorts; watch the documentary and read the issue or vice versa. But you won't get a full scope of the situation without doing both.
