Procida (Italian pronunciation: [ˈprɔːtʃida]) is one of the Flegrean Islands off the coast of Naples in southern Italy. The island is between Cape Miseno and the island of Ischia. With its tiny satellite island of Vivara, it is a comune of the Metropolitan City of Naples, in the region of Campania. The population is about ten thousand.
The island derives its name from the Latin name Prochyta. Προχύτη/Prochýtē means 'poured out' in Greek . According to another theory, Prochyta comes from the Greek verb prokeitai, meaning 'it lies forth', because of the appearance of the island seen from the sea.
Procida is located between Capo Miseno and the island of Ischia. It is less than 4.1 square kilometres (1.6 sq mi). Its coastlines, very jagged, are 16 km (9.9 mi). The Terra Murata hill is the highest point on the island (91 metres (299 ft)).
Geologically, Procida was created by the eruption of four volcanoes, now dormant and submerged.
Naples (/ˈneɪpəlz/; Italian: Napoli [ˈnaːpoli], Neapolitan: Napule [ˈnɑːpulə]; Latin: Neapolis; Ancient Greek: Νεάπολις, meaning "new city") is the capital of the Italian region Campania and the third-largest municipality in Italy, after Rome and Milan. In 2015, around 975,260 people lived within the city's administrative limits. The Metropolitan City of Naples had a population of 3,115,320. Naples is the 9th-most populous urban area in the European Union with a population of between 3 million and 3.7 million. About 4 million people live in the Naples metropolitan area, one of the largest metropolises on the Mediterranean Sea.
Naples is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Bronze Age Greek settlements were established in the Naples area in the second millennium BC. A larger colony – initially known as Parthenope, Παρθενόπη – developed on the Island of Megaride around the ninth century BC, at the end of the Greek Dark Ages. The city was refounded as Neápolis in the sixth century BC and became a lynchpin of Magna Graecia, playing a key role in the merging of Greek culture into Roman society and eventually becoming a cultural centre of the Roman Republic. Naples remained influential after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, serving as the capital city of the Kingdom of Naples between 1282 and 1816. Thereafter, in union with Sicily, it became the capital of the Two Sicilies until the unification of Italy in 1861. During the Neapolitan War of 1815, Naples strongly promoted Italian unification.
The Gulf of Naples (Italian: Golfo di Napoli), also called the Bay of Naples, is a roughly 15-kilometer-wide (9.3 mi) gulf located along the south-western coast of Italy (province of Naples, Campania region). It opens to the west into the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered on the north by the cities of Naples and Pozzuoli, on the east by Mount Vesuvius, and on the south by the Sorrentine Peninsula and the main town of the peninsula, Sorrento. The Peninsula separates the Gulf of Naples from the Gulf of Salerno, which includes the Amalfi coast.
The islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida are located in the Gulf of Naples. The area is a tourist destination, with the seaside Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum at the foot of Mount Vesuvius (destroyed in the AD 79 eruption of Vesuvius), along the north coast.
Fin Whales can sometimes be seen in Gulf of Pozzuoli.
It is said that The Roman emperor Caligula built a bridge of boats across the bay and rode across it in a chariot wearing the armor of Alexander the Great.

Escursione a Procida in solitaria. Ho visitato tutta l'isola, partendo da Marina Grande, proseguendo per Terra Murata, Corricella e Chiaiolella. Video e montaggio mio. Musiche: - Il pesce innamorato - Claudio Guidetti - Fool's gold legend and main title - George Fenton
Second video about this pretty little island of mediterranean sea Procida is the smallest as well as the most untamed and most uncontaminated of the three islands in the Bay of Naples, despite being just a stone’s throw from the mainland. As the hydrofoil sails into the harbour, the whites, deep reds and pastel shades of the houses are reflected in the rippling water, creating a picturesque effect. A Day on the Beautiful Island of Procida in the Bay of Naples, Italy. December 2016
After a week in a place that is stunningly beautiful, but which depends largely on tourism, I was ready for a vacation from the vacation. I'd read so often that the island of Procida was "undiscovered" that I figured plenty of tourists must have discovered it by now. Not so. It's still a place where, during my entire time there, I didn't hear a word of English -- unless I spoke it first. No bilingual menus. No one urging me, in perfect English to go here or there or take this tour or that tour. There were no chic designer clothing stores -- and the clothing store I did see is next to a paint store. In short, Procida is real (and, sadly, not as well off as Sorrento, Positano, or Capri). It's close enough to Naples for many people to commute, others work in the fishing industry...
Travel video about destination Napoli. Napoli is the capital of Campania in southern Italy where hustle and bustle combines with serenity and joie de vivre. The Centro Storico Monumentale is located around the harbour and the Piazza Del Plebiscito embodies both grandeur and vastness, in contrast to the narrow confines of the old town. Close to the harbour is the mighty Castel Nuovo, its graceful entrance arch seemingly hemmed-in by two awkward-looking towers. Its construction began during the reign of Charles The First but Alfons Of Aragon subsequently had the castle completely rebuilt. From the centre of the town a small causeway leads to the tiny island of Borgo Santa Lucia. The island is dominated by a building which in ancient times was the residence of Lucullus, namely the Castel D...
To what do you not drive
Mortal hearts
Accursed hunger for gold?
Cheaply bought, but deadly sold
With new light they shine on through
On fields of shredded goals
Reap crop of clinging hope
Harvest our brave new world
Ancient woe, be gone
Foul illusions of better life
Compared to what, I ask
Does this truth of life coerce?
Juxtaposed they are not
