A Description of an Alien Visit in the Buddhist Lotus Sutra

The Buddhist scripture called Saddharma Pundarika or the Lotus of the True Law was first written circa 300 A.D. (Note that the word “Sutra” means “scripture.”) The exact date of the original Sanscrit version from India is not known with certainty, but the first Chinese translation was made sometime between 265 and 315 A.D. Buddha himself was born in 563 BC, so the Lotus Sutra was obviously written by Buddhist monks around eight centuries after his death.
The English language version cited here was translated by H. Kern and originally published in 1884 by the Clarendon Press. This same translation was republished by Dover Books in 1963 in unabridged form and is the source of this paper.
As background before proceeding, Buddhist cosmology is surprisingly modern. Buddhism recognizes the existence of millions of other worlds and casually asserts that they are inhabited. Indeed, each inhabited world is stated to have a Buddha of its own. (The word “Buddha” means an enlightened being. In Buddhist teachings, anyone is theoretically capable of becoming a Buddha, although actually accomplishing this goal is rare.) One Buddhist scripture mentions in passing that on earth sermons are given with words, but on other worlds sermons may be given with light or with scents or by other non-verbal means.
Another modern aspect of Buddhist cosmology is the recognition that the universe has existed for many millions of years. Time in Buddhist cosmology is measured in terms of “kalpas.” A kalpa is figuratively defined as the amount of time it would take to wear away a mile-high mountain if a bird landed on it and sharpened its beak once every thousand years.
Kalpa is a Sanskrit word meaning an aeon, or a relatively long period of time (by human calculation) in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. The concept is first mentioned in the Mahabharata. The definition of a kalpa equaling 4.32 billion years is found in the Puranas (specifically Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana).

This is small Experimental Dance Project we made in mid march 2009. The Dance form is contemporary mixed with traditional art form. Performed by Veena Basavarajaih and Directed and conceptualized by Swaroop Kanchi. The version up is still a sort of a demo version with unfinished & demo sound.
Synopsis:
Kalpa in sanskrit is one aeon. Several million years make one Kalpa, Several kalpas make one mahakalpa. From the beginning of creation till destruction or Pralaya is one Maha Kalpa. It is said that existence is goes through innumerable Mahakalpas. Continously creating and destroying several million universe of universes. This is the dance of the cosmos, TANDAVA. This constant flux of creation and destruction, over and over and over again.
But who experiences this dance. There needs to be an entity. This dance Project is an experiment trying to express life through the eyes of the being in whom the ego is born. From pristine pure stillness Desire is born. Desire for the world. Differentiation arises. Maya or ignorance takes hold. The dance follows the story from the birth of the ego till its cessation back into the being, The natural state.
Kalpa means Aeon, but it also means order.
Vikalpa means conception-the birth of the ego
kalpana means imagination or illusion
savikalpa means experiencing the concept in its purity
Nirvikalpa means going beyond mind, ego and all conceptions
Thus is the journey.

We live in a 3-dimensional world, which physics calls "3-space." But there is also spacetime, or 4-space, or the "4th dimension." This amazing "new" knowledge is that time itself is actually compressed energy and is compressed by exactly the same factor by which matter is considered compressed energy: the speed-of-light-squared! So the famous E=mc2 now has a no-longer-secret sister: E=tc2 (where t is actually "delta-t," or change in time).- The Conservative Voice-Brave New World.
The title of the show is, "Zen of Zero Point, The Age of Enlightenment" The theme represents the artist's combining scientific theory with Eastern philosophy: Zen (a Buddhist religion and philosophy), Zero Point Field theory (of quantum mechanics), Rupert Sheldrake's ideas of morphic resonance and Masaru Emoto's ideas that water records information by changing it's crystalline shape due to the influence of word and thought frequencies.
The artist, Carolyn Goodridge, wants the artwork to illicit dialogue and meaningful conversation in the day to day lives of our mundane existence...not have art just as a silent decoration.

The word aeon , also spelled eon, originally meant "life", "vital force" or "being", "generation" or "a period of time", though it tended to be translated as "age" in the sense of "ages", "forever", "timeless" or "for eternity". It is a Latin transliteration from the koine Greek word ὁ αἰών, from the archaic αἰϝών. In Homer it typically refers to life or lifespan. Its latest meaning is more or less similar to the Sanskrit word kalpa and Hebrew word olam. A cognate Latin word aevum or aeuum for "age" is present in words such as longevity and mediaeval.
Although the term aeon may be used in reference to a period of a billion years, its more common usage is for any long, indefinite, period. Aeon can also refer to the four aeons on the Geologic Time Scale that make up the Earth's history, the Hadean, Archean, Proterozoic, and the current aeon Phanerozoic.

A Description of an Alien Visit in the Buddhist Lotus Sutra by Capers Jones The Buddhist scripture called Saddharma Pundarika or the Lotus of the True Law was first written circa 300 A.D. (Note that the word “Sutra” means “scripture.”) The exact date of the original Sanscrit version from India is not known with certainty, but the first Chinese translation was made sometime between 265 and 315 A.D. Buddha himself was born in 563 BC, so the Lotus Sutra was obviously written by Buddhist monks around eight centuries after his death. The English language version cited here was translated by H. Kern and originally published in 1884 by the Clarendon Press. This same translation was republished by Dover Books in 1963 in unabridged form and is the source of this paper. As background before proceeding, Buddhist cosmology is surprisingly modern. Buddhism recognizes the existence of millions of other worlds and casually asserts that they are inhabited. Indeed, each inhabited world is stated to have a Buddha of its own. (The word “Buddha” means an enlightened being. In Buddhist teachings, anyone is theoretically capable of becoming a Buddha, although actually accomplishing this goal is rare.) One Buddhist scripture mentions in passing that on earth sermons are given with words, but on other worlds sermons may be given with light or with scents or by other non-verbal means. Another modern aspect of Buddhist cosmology is the recognition that the universe has existed for many millions of years. Time in Buddhist cosmology is measured in terms of “kalpas.” A kalpa is figuratively defined as the amount of time it would take to wear away a mile-high mountain if a bird landed on it and sharpened its beak once every thousand years. Kalpa is a Sanskrit word meaning an aeon, or a relatively long period of time (by human calculation) in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. The concept is first mentioned in the Mahabharata. Performed by Veena Basavarajaih and Directed and conceptualized by Swaroop Kanchi. The version up is still a sort of a demo version with unfinished & demo sound. Synopsis: Kalpa in sanskrit is one aeon. Several million years make one Kalpa, Several kalpas make one mahakalpa. From the beginning of creation till destruction or Pralaya is one Maha Kalpa. It is said that existence is goes through innumerable Mahakalpas. Continously creating and destroying several million universe of universes. This is the dance of the cosmos, TANDAVA. This constant flux of creation and destruction, over and over and over again. But who experiences this dance. There needs to be an entity. This dance Project is an experiment trying to express life through the eyes of the being in whom the ego is born. From pristine pure stillness Desire is born. Desire for the world. Differentiation arises. Maya or ignorance takes hold. The dance follows the story from the birth of the ego till its cessation back into the being, The natural state. Kalpa means Aeon, but it also means order. Vikalpa means conception-the birth of the ego kalpana means imagination or illusion savikalpa means experiencing the concept in its purity Nirvikalpa means going beyond mind, ego and all conceptions Thus is the journey. -

The word aeon , also spelled eon, originally meant "life", "vital force" or "being", "generation" or "a period of time", though it tended to be translated as "age" in the sense of "ages", "forever", "timeless" or "for eternity". It is a Latin transliteration from the koine Greek word ὁ αἰών, from the archaic αἰϝών. In Homer it typically refers to life or lifespan. Its latest meaning is more or less similar to the Sanskrit word kalpa and Hebrew word olam. A cognate Latin word aevum or aeuum for "age" is present in words such as longevity and mediaeval. Although the term aeon may be used in reference to a period of a billion years, its more common usage is for any long, indefinite, period. Aeon can also refer to the four aeons on the Geologic Time Scale that make up the Earth's history, the Hadean, Archean, Proterozoic, and the current aeon Phanerozoic. A Description of an Alien Visit in the Buddhist Lotus Sutra

The Buddhist scripture called Saddharma Pundarika or the Lotus of the True Law was first written circa 300 A.D. (Note that the word “Sutra” means “scripture.”) The exact date of the original Sanscrit version from India is not known with certainty, but the first Chinese translation was made sometime between 265 and 315 A.D. Buddha himself was born in 563 BC, so the Lotus Sutra was obviously written by Buddhist monks around eight centuries after his death.
The English language version cited here was translated by H. Kern and originally published in 1884 by the Clarendon Press. This same translation was republished by Dover Books in 1963 in unabridged form and is the source of this paper.
As background before proceeding, Buddhist cosmology is surprisingly modern. Buddhism recognizes the existence of millions of other worlds and casually asserts that they are inhabited. Indeed, each inhabited world is stated to have a Buddha of its own. (The word “Buddha” means an enlightened being. In Buddhist teachings, anyone is theoretically capable of becoming a Buddha, although actually accomplishing this goal is rare.) One Buddhist scripture mentions in passing that on earth sermons are given with words, but on other worlds sermons may be given with light or with scents or by other non-verbal means.
Another modern aspect of Buddhist cosmology is the recognition that the universe has existed for many millions of years. Time in Buddhist cosmology is measured in terms of “kalpas.” A kalpa is figuratively defined as the amount of time it would take to wear away a mile-high mountain if a bird landed on it and sharpened its beak once every thousand years.
Kalpa is a Sanskrit word meaning an aeon, or a relatively long period of time (by human calculation) in Hindu and Buddhist cosmology. The concept is first mentioned in the Mahabharata. The definition of a kalpa equaling 4.32 billion years is found in the Puranas (specifically Vishnu Purana and Bhagavata Purana).
