Full Dance Performance of the National Dance Ensemble »Sabo«, Tashkent from Uzbekistan at Frestival du Houblon on 21/8/2015.
I played at the beginning and at the end during a Photo Show on a vietnamese Jaw Harp (Dan Moi) an improvisation based on an Uzbek rhythm.
The music of Uzbekistan has reflected the diverse influences that have shaped the country. It is very similar to the music of the Middle East and is characterized by complicated rhythms and meters. Because of the long history of music in the country and the large number of different music styles and musical instruments, Uzbekistan is often regarded as one of the most musically diverse countries in Central Asia
Uzbekistan, also known as “the pearl, surrounded by sand”, is one of the oldest countries in Central Asia with a remarkable history. For centuries, Uzbekistan was influenced by the cultures of China, India, Middle East and Europe. The people of Uzbekistan are known for their friendliness and hospitality.
“When we travel the world, we teach people about our unique and rich Uzbek culture and welcome all who want to visit our beautiful country!”

// About NowRoz:
Nowroz (pronounced no-rooz) is a combination of two farsi words. The first word “now” means new and the second word “ruz” means day; together they mean “New Day.” Nowroz is the name for the celebrations that observe the New Year for many East and Central Asian communities. The exact beginning of the New Year occurs when the season changes from winter to spring on the vernal equinox, which usually happens on 20 or 21 March each year. The spelling of Nowroz in English can take many forms, including: Noroz, Norouz, Nowruz and Norooz. For this resource we have used the spelling Nowroz. The festivities of Nowroz reflect the renewal of the Earth that occurs with the coming of spring. Activities that celebrate the arrival of Nowroz share many similarities with other spring festivals such as Easter, celebrated by Christians, and the Egyptian holiday called Sham Al-Naseem, which dates back to the time of the Pharaohs
Nowroz is a festival that has been celebrated for thousands of years. It is a secular holiday that is enjoyed by people of several different faiths and as such can take on additional interpretations through the lens of religion. Nowroz is partly rooted in the religious tradition of Zoroastrianism. Among other ideas, Zoroastrianism emphasizes broad concepts such as the corresponding work of good and evil in the world, and the connection of humans to nature. Zoroastrian practices were dominant for much of the history of ancient Persia. Today there are a few Zoroastrian communities throughout the world, and the largest are in southern Iran and India.
People all over the world celebrate Nowroz, but it originated in the geographical area called Persia in the Middle East and Central Asia. The distinct culture based on the language, food, music and leisure activities that developed among the many people and ethnic groups who lived in this area is known as Persian. Nowroz became a popular celebration among the communities that grew from these Persian influenced cultural areas. While the physical region called Persia no longer exists, the traditions of Nowroz are strong among people in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Canada and the United States. Nowruz is a holiday that is celebrated by people from diverse ethnic communities and religious backgrounds. For the Parsi community, however, Nowruz is very special and is known as their spiritual New Year.

// About NowRoz:

English/Nat
Recently independent, the former Soviet state Uzbekistan is trying to overcome economic problems left over from Moscow's rule.
Now, after six years of independence and compared with other former Soviet Union states, Uzbekistan has a relatively stable economy.
APTV has a special report.
Between the 11th and the 13th century AD the city of Samarkand was the most prosperous in the orient.
First under Persian rule and then under the Ottoman Turks, the region thrived as the main city on the silk road bringing spice and silk from China and Mongolia to the Mediterranean basin and then to the cities of Europe.
As the third most populous state created from the former Soviet Union and the fourth largest in land area, Uzbekistan was one of the poorest states with 60 per cent of its population living in overpopulated rural communities.
Faced with mounting economic problems, the government of Uzbekistan has begun to move on a reform agenda and cooperate with international financial institutions.
Recently it announced an acceleration of privatization and stepped up efforts to attract foreign investors.
Since its independence in August of 1991, Uzbekistan has taken several steps to insure its economic autonomy: firstly by introducing the Som as its new national currency, then by privatising state assets and liberalizing prices.
A stock market is trading twice a week in Tashkent, and several companies are investing in the region including a major Korean auto manufacturer.
SOUNDBITE:
\"There is a process of simultaneous transforming of three parts of the society: restoring the statehood, transforming the totalitarian regime of Soviet time to the open democratic society and the third is the transforming the economy. I think it is a very difficult time but at the same time I should say that Uzbekistan has achieved a lot of accomplishment. First of all it is stable.\"
SUPER CAPTION: Sodik Safaev, Uzbekistan Ambassador to the United States
As the world's third largest cotton exporter, seventh largest producer of gold and a major producer of natural gas, Uzbekistan's economy is largely self sufficient.
And despite economic uncertainty foreign investment in Uzbekistan is under way.
To help diversify its economic and political ties with Russia, Uzbekistan has moved to strengthen relations with other Central Asian states as well as with countries outside the region including the United States.
SOUNDBITE:
\"We also found that the country because of its extraordinary wealth in cotton, natural gas and metal of almost all kinds, is becoming magnet for foreign business investment. I am proud to say from the United States there are a number of a very large companies
which have come here and which have made very productive and mutually profitable investments\"
SUPER CAPTION: Stanley Escudero, U-S Ambassador to Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is now one of the richest of the former Soviet republics in Central Asia and its capital Tashkent has become a hub for business and trade in the region.
Other former Soviet states must envy both Uzbekistan's natural resources and its political stability.
But the country still has some way to go,

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov have agreed to deepen bilateral economic ties to help the Central Asian country diversify its industries.
The 2 leaders agreed in their talks in the capital Tashkent on Sunday that Japan will extend a yen-denominated loan worth about 100 million dollars to build a power plant that uses exhaust heat from gas-fueled generators.
Japan will also provide about 5.7 million dollars through its overseas aid program to equip a medical center in central Uzbekistan with CT scanners and other equipment.
Abe and Karimov issued a joint statement after their talks.
It calls for Japanese firms' participation in building factories to produce buses, trucks and chemical fertilizers.
Karimov told reporters that Abe's visit will be a stimulus for deepening multi-dimensional bilateral ties and cooperation. He also said he is satisfied with the constructive talks with Abe.
Abe called Uzbekistan a friend of Japan and an important country for the stability and development of Central Asia.
He said the talks were meaningful in strengthening bilateral relations and had produced significant results, adding that he will work to further develop friendship and cooperation.
Uzbekistan is the 4th stop of Abe's week-long tour of Mongolia and 5 Central Asian nations.

Russian/Nat
President Vladimir Putin has promised military aid to the former Soviet republic of Uzbekistan to help combat Islamic extremism.
Russian and Uzbek troops recently held joint manoeuvres and Putin said military cooperation was likely to develop further.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
"Enforcement, mutual enforcement of peace in this region of the world is on our agenda. We will fight together against terrorism, international terrorism; this mutual cooperation will be cultivated, it will be coordinated even to the extent that certain preventive measures will be employed to prevent any aggressive acts against Russia or Uzbekistan."
SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Putin, President of Russia
Officials from both nations discussed military issues in closed-door talks.
Putin and his host President Islam Karimov said they would sign a variety of agreements on military cooperation.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
"We have always, in Uzbekistan, recognised and appreciated the interest that Russia has in this region. We, in turn, are satisfied with (Putin's) announcement and see that both our countries' interests are concurrent."
SUPER CAPTION: Islam Karimov, President of Uzbekistan
Karimov earlier hinted that Uzbekistan would like to receive Russian aid to modernise its air defence system.
Until recently, Karimov had been wary of Russian initiatives and preferred to look for assistance in Turkey, the United States and Europe.
The United States and other Western nations have offered some aid but warned Karimov that he must improve Uzbekistan's human rights record.
They also want to see Uzbekistan's Soviet-style economy modernised.
But Karimov has been irritated by such criticism and has turned towards Russia in hope of getting economic and military aid.
Karimov, who was the former Uzbek Communist Party boss, has established a strong secular rule, cracking down on Islamic movements, human rights activists and other dissenters.
Many Central Asian leaders say that tough rule is necessary to prevent the spread of Islamic fundamentalism, especially after the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
Threats to the region were highlighted last year by a series of bombings of government buildings in Tashkent that killed 13 people and wounded more than 100.
Those attacks were blamed on Islamic militants.
Also on Friday, Uzbekistan's oil and gas company signed an agreement with Russia's natural gas giant Gazprom to supply natural gas to Russia.
Gazprom will help Uzbekistan explore new natural gas fields.

The leaders of Korea and Uzbekistan held talks in Seoul today.
It′s their second meeting in less than a year, following President Park Geun-hye′s visit to Tashkent last June.
Choi You-sun reports.
Uzbekistan, rich in natural resources and home to 30 million people, has one of the fastest-growing economies in Central Asia.
The Uzbek economy expanded by more than eight percent last year, and the government there plans to invest 55 billion U.S. dollars into infrastructure development, including road and airport construction, over the next five years.
In recent years, Korean companies have won more than a dozen of Uzbekistan′s project orders,...worth nearly seven billion dollars,... and now they′re vying for more.
During their meeting Thursday, President Park Geun-hye and visiting Uzbek President Islam Karimov discussed increasing joint ventures.
The two sides signed a four-point-five-billion-dollar deal to work together on a plant that produces olefin,.... a material often used in construction, from methanol in natural gas.
President Park also requested Tashkent′s support for Korean participation in its solar energy plant construction, as the two countries are currently working together in this field.
The two countries will also lay the groundwork for a bilateral trade deal,...as Uzbekistan is Korea′s biggest trading partner in Central Asia.
Seoul and Tashkent also inked deals to expand cooperation in health care and ICT.
In international matters, the Uzbek leader reaffirmed his support for President Park′s trust-building process with North Korea, her peace initiative in Northeast Asia,...and her Eurasia Initiative for connecting energy and logistics infrastructure through the continents.

STORYLINE
Residents of an Uzbek border town were on Sunday able to cross safely into a neighbouring settlement in Kyrgyzstan for the first time in years.
But on Monday, news reports said that Uzbek troops had sealed off the town of Korasuv on the Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan border.
The news reports also said that Uzbek troops, in an attempt to seal off the area, had set up checkpoints on the roads leading into Korasuv.
Townspeople in Korasuv crossed the Shakhrikhan-Say River safely into the Kyrgyz town of Kara-Suu on Sunday, to a market that had been key to residents' attempts to scrape together a living.
On Saturday, a day of rioting left Korasuv strewn with the charred carcasses of police cars and the streets littered with documents from torched government offices, but it forced authorities to restore the bridge - and that trade-off was worth the chaos, townspeople said.
Uzbek authorities tore up the floor of part of the footbridge in early 2003, purportedly to help block infectious diseases coming in food products from Kyrgyzstan.
But locals saw it as an attempt by the government to grind them down, denying them access to the better-developed economy and comparatively more open politics of Kyrgyzstan.
Some Uzbek traders, desperate to keep their incomes going, tried to cross the river on ropes clandestinely strung above the rushing waters - many drowned.
For more than two years, resentment brewed.
It exploded on Saturday, apparently touched off by news of violence in Andijan, a major city about 50 kilometres (30 miles) away.
Soldiers fired into a crowd of protesters in Andijan, leaving up to 500 people dead.
A human rights group reported that clashes in the town of Pakhtabad killed an additional 200 people.
When Korasuv protesters took to the streets on Saturday, they set police and tax inspector's offices on fire, looted a local bank and burned five police cars.
Many of the police fled; at least one officer was beaten, as was the local mayor, residents said.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye visited Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in Central Asia from June 16 to 21. The latest trip is aimed at expanding cooperation and business projects with the three central Asian countries. The Korean government is focusing on seeking economic cooperation with the countries to implement its proposed 'Eurasia initiative'. So, what potential and attractiveness does Central Asia, including Kazakhstan, have? Also, through what measures can Korea more actively seek economic cooperation with this region?

Russia: Presentation of foreign ambassadors’ letters of credence
November 19, 2014 The Kremlin, Moscow.
Vladimir Putin received the letters of credence of 15 new foreign ambassadors to Russia in a ceremony at the Grand Kremlin Palace’s Alexander Hall.
The President received letters of credence from the new ambassadors of Djibouti, the Central African Republic, Eritrea, Poland, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Ghana, Vietnam, the United States of America, Zambia, Turkey, Tanzania, Hungary, Peru, Nicaragua and Uzbekistan.

PRESIDENT OF RUSSIA VLADIMIR PUTIN: Ladies and gentlemen,
It is a pleasure to congratulate you on the start of your important diplomatic missions in Russia. I wish you success and hope that your work will help to develop bilateral relations and cooperation in all different areas between Russia and your countries.
Friends, as you know, a number of big international events have taken place recently, in which Russia played a very active part. I am referring to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum’s summit in Beijing and the Group of 20 Leaders’ Summit in Brisbane, as well as the BRICS leaders’ meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit. We also had useful bilateral contacts with various countries’ leaders, including leaders of some of the countries you represent.
Our work together took place in a constructive spirit and produced good results. We concentrated in particular on how to stabilise the global economy, ensure sustained growth and create conditions for building up broad-based and multifaceted international cooperation. The agreements reached in Brisbane, including on launching the global infrastructure initiative, establishing the global infrastructure hub, tackling unemployment and reforming international economic institutions, will all help to resolve the financial and economic problems before us today.
We take the view that development of trade and economic ties within APEC should aim to create organisations that will complement the cooperation mechanisms already in place and not divide participating countries but, on the contrary, help us to unite in a common effort.
In this respect, I particularly want to note Russia’s growing economic cooperation with the Asia-Pacific region countries and say that this is long-term, strategic cooperation. We take the view that this will help to develop parts of Russia, such as Siberia and the Far East.
At the same time, we are equally interested in developing our cooperation with both the East and the West. This is the logic at the foundation of the Eurasian Economic Union, which will start its work on January 1, 2015. Our strategic goal remains unchanged: to eventually create a single economic and humanitarian space from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

HRW on Uzbekistan: Karimov can change a lot with a stroke of a pen

As President Islam Karimov is set to start a new term, the human rights situation in Uzbekistan remains atrocious, says Steve Swerdlow, Human Rights Watch, talking to Voice of America's Uzbek Service. What can the United States and West do? What does HRW know about the scandal centered around Gulnara Karimova, president's eldest daughter? Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, his younger daughter, recently visited Washington, promoting Uzbek literature and art. How does HRW see her role as a diplomat and a member of presidential family?
“Despite any legal acrobatics the government may use to justify another presidential term for Islam Karimov, there can be absolutely no question that his standing for a fourth term violates not only the letter, but also the spirit of Uzbekistan’s Constitution,” said Steve Swerdlow. “The Constitution refers to the president as the guarantor of the rights embedded in the document, but here we see Karimov himself contravening and violating its core provisions.”
“Another serious shortcoming in this election is that independent candidates are absolutely barred from running. The state of political freedoms is non-existent. Genuinely independent voices have not been allowed to register and participate in this election, as in all previous ones.”
“In a December 2014 speech on Constitution Day, Karimov said that Uzbekistan is ‘building an independent democratic state’ and ‘creating a civil society’ that prioritizes ‘human interests, rights, and freedoms and the supremacy of the law.’ But Karimov is merely attempting to add a democratic veneer to a dictatorial system. Thousands of political prisoners are languishing in jail, the media is muzzled, and most civil society activists are either in prison or in exile.”
“The Uzbek government is doing all it can to portray this election as legitimate, without actually making it legitimate – without making the election free and fair. Tashkent is harnessing the vote as an act of consolidation and public mobilization around the regime.”
“The Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, or ODIHR, the election-monitoring arm of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, is fielding a limited mission due to what it describes as ‘the limited nature of the competition’ in the election and never judged an election there to be free and fair. Nothing the Uzbek authorities have done in the run up to these presidential elections seems to indicate ODIHR/OSCE will be able to reach a different conclusion.”

"This time the script writers and directors behind these events used radical, religious, extremist forces that once upon a time were called by these directors as terrorists, who were fought against in Afghanistan and are now being fought against in Iraq."

7. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Islam Karimov, Uzbek president:
"We have information and people who are now testifying, who were trained outside of Uzbekistan. These people will come out tomorrow and people will be able to see for themselves. They were thoroughly prepared at training fields, trained to use machine guns and rocket launchers. Of course, there were people prepared in Uzbekistan who were supposed to join them after a signal had been given."

10. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Vladimir Putin, Russian President:
"I would like to offer my condolences to all those killed and their families. But, as you know, we had information about infiltration by militants from Afghanistan. We informed our colleagues in all the countries where they concentrated, but I am not sure to what extent this information was conveyed to you in time."
12. Wide shot talks
STORYLINE:
Uzbek president Islam Karimov said on Tuesday that the violently suppressed May uprising in his Central Asian nation was planned from abroad.
Speaking during a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Karimov said "we have enough facts to prove that the operation was prepared several months and perhaps several years in advance from outside Uzbekistan".
The meeting at Putin's residence outside Moscow took place during the authoritarian leader's second foreign trip following the May government crackdown on protesters in eastern Uzbekistan.
The first was to Beijing.
Moscow has steadfastly backed Karimov in his rejection of international demands for an independent investigation into the suppression of the uprising in Andijan, in which rights activists say government troops killed up to 750 people.
Uzbek authorities deny that troops fired on unarmed civilians and put the death toll at 176.
They have blamed the violence on Islamic militants intent on destabilising Uzbekistan and the wider Central Asian region.
Putin said Russian secret services had information about militants crossing from Afghanistan into Central Asia, and had warned governments in the region before the Andijan events.
He said "as you know, we had information about infiltration by militants from Afghanistan. We informed our colleagues in all the countries where they concentrated, but I am not sure to what extent this information was conveyed to you in time".
"This problem of course exists," Putin said.
Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that militants, with the participation of former Taliban and members of the extremist Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, were training in Afghanistan, as well as Pakistan, to carry out terrorist attacks, including in Russia.
A day earlier, Putin said Russia - which is battling a separatist insurgency in its largely Muslim southern province of Chechnya - and other ex-Soviet nations were concerned about terrorist training bases in Afghanistan.
Unrest erupted in the eastern city of Andijan on May 13, when militants seized a local prison and government headquarters.
Rights activists say the victims were largely civilian protesters but the authorities have accused militants of killing hostages and of using civilians as human shields.

This video was originally published on May 13, 2006, on the one year anniversary of the massacre.
On May 13, 2005, Uzbek government forces killed hundreds of unarmed people who participated in a massive public protest in the eastern Uzbek city of Andijan. The scale of this killing was so extensive, and its nature was so indiscriminate and disproportionate, that it can best be described as a massacre. A Human Rights Watch field investigation in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan recreated a comprehensive account of the events of May 13 and 14 in Andijan. Our findings clearly demonstrate the Uzbek government forces' undeniable responsibility for the massacre.

Samarkand – Crossroad of Cultures
The historic town of Samarkand is a crossroad and melting pot of the world's cultures. Founded in the 7th century B.C. as ancient Afrasiab, Samarkand had its most significant development in the Timurid period from the 14th to the 15th centuries. The major monuments include the Registan Mosque and madrasas, Bibi-Khanum Mosque, the Shakhi-Zinda compound and the Gur-

During my trip to Uzbekistan a few of us decided to get up at 5AM to watch morning prayers, however when we arrived there was no one to be seen. So we found a guard who we ended up paying to let us up the minaret which was incredibly steep.

A Travel Guide to Uzbekistan
If Kyrgyzstan is renowned for its natural beauty, so neighbouring Uzbekistan is famous for its spectacular Silk Road architecture. From Samarkand to Khiva the legacy of the Silk Road and the rule of Emperor Timur is evident in the magnificent mosques, madrassas and caravanserais. My names is Jonny Bealby, I run Wild Frontiers, and in this short film I am going to explain about tourism in Uzbekistan.
As the world’s only landlocked country, surrounded by landlocked countries, Uzbekistan needs things other than traditional beaches to attract the visitor; and it does, in abundance. From Iran to India Islam has given the world some of the most spectacular architecture there is, and nowhere is this more evident than here in Uzbekistan.
The mosques and madrassas of Samarkand are as exquisite as any buildings anywhere on earth. The old walled town of Khiva, a veritable living museum, is an entire town of imposing buildings echoing history, and in Bukhara – probably the most important of all Silk Road towns – the soft, earth-coloured forts, squares, domes and towers are all guaranteed to carry the visitor back to a very different time.
The capital of Uzbekistan is Tashkent. Formerly the Soviet Union’s fifth largest city, Tashkent is a surprisingly quiet place, with large leafy parks, cafes and some excellent hotel options. But Tashkent is usually only a start or end point on a journey through Uzbekistan. And if you’re travelling overland from Kyrgyzstan and the Ferghana Valley you’ll likely as not first visit Kokand, a former royal khanate, or kingdom, and home to an impressive palace.
But according to Robert Byron, author of The Road to Oxiana, all travellers that venture through Central Asia have one goal in mind, to see the splendours of Samarkand.
Centre of the Universe, Mirror of the world, Garden of the soul, Jewel of the east, Pearl of Islam, Samarkand has had writers and poets waxing lyrical for over two millennia. And for god reason. The Registan, a public square used to hear royal proclamations, is surrounded on three sides by magnificent mosques and madrassas. The huge Bibi Khanym mosques was the largest in the world when built at the end of the 14th century. Emperor Timor’s tomb has exquisite carvings and delicate gold inlay. Ulam Beg’s observatory is fascinating and impressive. And the shar-i-zindar, also known as the street of the dead, is another atmospheric site.
Moving along the Royal Road, perhaps travelling through Shakrizabs and the birth place of Timur, you’ll come to Bukhara. Personally my favourite town in the country, if not the whole region, Bukhara is a sleepy place, easy to walk around and just brimming over with magnificent sites. Probably the most famous is the 150-foot high Kolan minaret, allegedly used in the 19th century by the then ruler, Nazarullah Khan, as a means of execution, and the adjacent mosques and madrassas. Other sites include the Arc, or impregnable citadel, the char minar mosque and the mosque of 40 pillars. Here in Bukhara there is also great shopping, often in the old caravanserais, where carpets, shawls, spice and trinkets of all types can be found.
And finally after another 7 hour drive across the Kyzyl Kum Desert lies Khiva. As one of the most powerful khanates in the 19th century, Khiva grew into a sumptuous walled city much of which has been lovingly restored for the benefit of today’s modern visitor. To watch sunrise over the old town is one of travel’s great experiences.
But it’s not all about ancient monuments. Uzbekistan has some beautiful hills and mountains, the quite extraordinary and fascinating Aral Sea and the famous modern art collection at Nukus. The ancient towns through which you’ll pass also have bustling markets, some great open air restaurants, and some of the best boutique hotels anyway in the region.
Although you might find more tourists here than you will in some of the neighbouring countries, for anyone interested in culture and history Uzbekistan is simply a must.

The major monuments include the Registan Mosque and madrasas, Bibi-Khanum Mosque, the Shakhi-Zinda compound and the Gur-Emir ensemble, as well as Ulugh-Beg's Observatory. UZBEKISTAN
Uzbekistan is the heart and soul of the Silk Road. The Old Towns of its three UNESCO-listed oasis cities – Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand – are incredible mazes of exotic architecture and gorgeous decorative art. Beyond these lie the rural Fergana Valley and the remote towns of Karakalpakstan. We would love to show you around this timeless, welcoming wellspring of Silk Road culture. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Registon-Travel/1592405787643542 http://registontravel.com/en

During my trip to Uzbekistan a few of us decided to get up at 5AM to watch morning prayers, however when we arrived there was no one to be seen. So we found a guard who we ended up paying to let us up the minaret which was incredibly steep.

DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS JULY 31, 2015.
16 day tour starting and ending in Tashkent. Travel to Fergana Valley, Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva. Oct 15-31, 2015.
$3599 shared accommodation. Includes twin accommodation, breakfasts, events, private vehicles with driver, in program

The cities of Uzbekistan have been cultural crossroads where East meets West for over a thousand years. Invaded, conquered and ruled by a shifting mélange of Persian, Ottoman, Muslim and Christian warriors, Uzbekistan is rich in archeological treasures: palaces, mosques, and mausoleums immortalizing emperors, tyrants, and khans; ancient cities and markets. The sweeping scale of the landscape is a perfect counterpoint to the elaborate detailing of the turquoise mosaics that cover many structures.
A seasoned world traveler, Trip Escort, Architect Gerald Forseth selects destinations with important examples of ancient architectures and the cultures that created them.
This travel program is organized by Alberta College of Art + Design, Extended Studies. Everyone is welcome. Please
contact ACAD Extended Studies at 403 284 7640 or extendedstudies@acad.ca for information and to register.
