Extinct Languages Spoken - Ubykh, Old English, Proto-Indo-European and more

Five extinct languages spoken, including Ubykh, Old English, Proto-Germanic, Proto-Indo-European, and Proto-Nostratic.
Some more information on the languages (from Wikipedia):
Ubykh, tʷaxəbza in the Ubykh language, is an extinct Northwest Caucasian language that died with its last native speaker, Tevfik Esenç, in 1992. It has the largest consonant inventory among attested non-click languages, with 84 phonemic consonants (but only two phonemic vowels).
Old English, Ænglisc in Old English, is the direct ancestor of the modern English language, although very different due to its lack of Romance influence from the Normans, and because of this is much closer to Icelandic or German. It was spoken from the mid fifth to mid twelfth centuries.
Proto-Germanic is the unattested common ancestor of all the Germanic languages and is a descendant language of Proto-Indo-European, likely spoken in present-day Denmark, and southern Scandinavia about three thousand years ago.. However, certain inscriptions found may be of the early Proto-Norse or late Proto-Germanic periods.
Proto-Indo-European is the unattested, yet highly supported common ancestor of all Indo-European languages, including Hellenic (including Greek), Italic (including Latin and the Romance languages), Germanic, Celtic, Slavic, and the Indo-Iranian languages. There are about 439 Indo-European languages, with almost three billion native speakers, by far the most of any widely recognized language family. The most accepted hypothesis places it spoken in the Pontic steppe, about six thousand years ago, although estimates vary greatly.
Proto-Nostratic is a controversial common ancestor of Afro-Asiatic, Kartvelian, Dravidian, Eurasiatic (including Uralic, Indo-European, and Altaic), sometimes including Elamite, Sumerian, Nivkh, Yukaghir, Chukotko-Chamkatkan, and Eskimo-Aleut languages. It is believed to be spoken in the Fertile Crescent around 12,000 years ago.
Texts Used:
Ubykh: from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubykh_language#Samples_of_Ubykh
Old English: The Lord's Prayer, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Lord%27s_Prayer_in_English
Proto-Germanic: Schleicher's Fable, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proto-Germanic_language#Schleicher.27s_PIE_fable_rendered_into_Proto-Germanic
Proto-Indo-European: Schleicher's Fable, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schleicher%27s_fable (Byrd's translation)
Proto-Nostratic: from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nostratic_languages#Sample_text
Information on the phonetics of the languages come from their respective Wikipedia pages.
Stuff used:
Recorded on an iPhone 4s, audio edited in Logic Pro 9, pictures made in Gimp, video made in iMovie.
**DISCLAIMER**
All of these languages are extinct. As such, all pronunciations are completely approximate, especially that of PIE and Proto-Nostratic. I'm not very good at the voiced aspirated (breathy-voiced) PIE stops either, and am unsure about stress patterns, and Old English vowel reduction.
Also, I am not perfect. I made quite a few mistakes - see if you can spot them! Hopefully my American English accent didn't get in the way to much.
Anyways, thanks for watching! Maybe in the future I'll do another... I'd like to do Latin, Ancient Greek, maybe Old Chinese. I'd need some good texts with IPA pronunciations though. If you want, suggest a language in the comments!
I can't imagine how anyone could speak fluent Ubykh. They must have very tough uvulas... (Luckily the Ubykh text didn't use qˁʼ)

The Mossad (Hebrew: הַמוֹסָד, IPA: [ha moˈsad]; Arabic: الموساد, al-Mōsād; literally meaning "the Institute"), short for HaMossad leModiʿin uleTafkidim Meyuḥadim (Hebrew: המוסד למודיעין ולתפקידים מיוחדים, meaning "Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations"; Arabic: الموساد للاستخبارات والمهام الخاصة al-Mōsād lil-Istikhbārāt wal-Mahāmm al-Khāṣṣah), is the national intelligence agency of Israel. It is one of the main entities in the Israeli Intelligence Community, along with Aman (military intelligence) and Shin Bet (internal security).
The Mossad is responsible for intelligence collection, covert operations, and counterterrorism, as well as bringing Jews to Israel from countries where official Aliyah agencies are forbidden, and protecting Jewish communities. Its director reports directly to the Prime Minister.

The Directorate of Military Intelligence (Hebrew: אגף המודיעין, Agaf HaModi'in -- lit. "the Intelligence Section", often abbreviated to Aman) is the central, overarching military intelligence body of the Israel Defense Forces. Aman was created in 1950, when the Intelligence Department was spun off from the IDF's General Staff (then, Agam: אג"ם); the Intelligence Department itself was composed largely of former members of the Haganah Intelligence Service (HIS). Aman is an independent service, and not part of the ground forces, navy or the Israeli Air Force.
It is one of the main entities in the Israeli Intelligence Community, along with Mossad (national intelligence) and Shin Bet (general security). It is currently headed by Major General Aviv Kochavi. It has a staff of 7,000 personnel (1996 estimate). Its special forces and field-reconnaissance unit is Sayeret Matkal.

Its motto is "Magen VeLo Yera'e" (Hebrew: מגן ולא יראה, lit. "Defender that shall not be seen" or "The unseen shield"). It is one of three principal organizations of the Israeli Intelligence Community, alongside Aman (military intelligence) and the Mossad (foreign intelligence service). Music under permission of I.M.M. Musicworks
Beautiful and unforgettable version of AUM MANI PADME HUM sung by Imee Ooi, singer and composer born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which has released more than 40 albums.
Excerpt from Wikipedia
"Oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ[1] (Sanskrit: ॐ मणिपद्मे हूं, IPA: [õːː məɳipəd̪meː ɦũː]) is the six-syllabled Sanskrit mantra particularly associated with the four-armed Shadakshari form of Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan Chenrezig, Chinese Guanyin), the bodhisattva of compassion. Mani means "jewel" or "bead" and Padma means "the lotus flower", the Buddhist Sacred Flower.
It is commonly carved onto rocks or written on paper which is inserted into prayer wheels. When an individual spins the wheel, it is said that the effect is the same as reciting the mantra as many times as it is duplicated within the wheel.
The first known description of the mantra appears in the Karandavyuha Sutra (Chinese: 佛說大乘莊嚴寶王經 (Taisho Tripitaka 1050);[3] English: Buddha speaks Mahayana Sublime Treasure King Sutra), which is part of certain Mahayana canons such as the Tibetan. In this sutra, Shakyamuni Buddha states, "This is the most beneficial mantra. Even I made this aspiration to all the million Buddhas and subsequently received this teaching from Buddha Amitabha."[4]
The middle part of the mantra, maṇipadme, is often interpreted as "jewel in the lotus," Sanskrit maṇí "jewel, gem, cintamani" and the locative of padma "lotus", but according to Donald Lopez it is much more likely that maṇipadme is in fact a vocative, not a locative, addressing a bodhisattva called maṇipadma, "Jewel-Lotus"- an alternate epithet of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara.[5] It is preceded by the oṃ syllable and followed by the hūṃ syllable, both interjections without linguistic meaning.
Another suggested translation is thus: Om purifies bliss and pride (realm of the gods); Ma purifies jealousy and need for entertainment (realm of the jealous gods); Ni purifies passion and desire (human realm); Pad purifies ignorance and prejudice (animal realm); Me purifies greed and possessiveness (realm of the hungry ghosts); Hum purifies aggression and hatred (hell realm).

THE STORY OF JOAN OF ARC - FULL AudioBook | GreatestAudioBooks.com - Joan of Arc (French: Jeanne d'Arc, IPA: [c. 1412 – 30 May 1431), nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans" (French: La Pucelle d'Orléans), is considered a heroine of France and a Roman Catholic saint. She was born to Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle, a peasant family, at Domrémy in north-east France. Joan said she received visions of the Archangel Michael, Saint Margaret and Saint Catherine instructing her to support Charles VII and recover France from English domination late in the Hundred Years' War. The uncrowned King Charles VII sent Joan to the siege of Orléans as part of a relief mission. She gained prominence after the siege was lifted in only nine days. Several additional swift victories led to Charles VII's coronation at Reims. This long-awaited event boosted French morale and paved the way for the final French victory.
On 23 May 1430 she was captured at Compiègne by the Burgundian faction which was allied with the English. She was later handed over to the English, and then put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais Pierre Cauchon on a variety of charges. After Cauchon declared her guilty she was burned at the stake on 30 May 1431, dying at about nineteen years of age.
Twenty-five years after her execution, an inquisitorial court authorized by Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, debunked the charges against her, pronounced her innocent, and declared her a martyr. Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920. She is one of the nine secondary patron saints of France, along with St. Denis, St. Martin of Tours, St. Louis, St. Michael, St. Remi, St. Petronilla, St. Radegund and St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

Pavel Palazhchenko or Palazchenko (Russian: Па́вел Русла́нович Пала́жченко, born 17 March 1949) is a high-level Soviet conference interpreter who was the chief English interpreter for Mikhail Gorbachev and Soviet foreign minister Eduard Shevardnadze from 1985 and 1991.
Palazhchenko was born on 17 March 1949 in Monino, Moscow Oblast, Russia. He graduated from the Maurice Thorez Moscow Institute of Foreign Languages (Moscow State Linguistic University) in 1972.
As one of the leading interpreters of his time, Palazhchenko participated in all US-Soviet summit talks leading to the end of the Cold War. He is the author of a personal and political memoir, My Years with Gorbachev and Shevardnadze: The Memoir of a Soviet Interpreter.
Palazhchenko also wrote the Moi Nesistematichesky Slovar or My Unsystematic Dictionary which was published in Russia by R. Valent publications in May 2002. The 300-page Russian-English dictionary provides information, insight and cultural observation on the linguistic twists and turns that lie between the English and Russian languages; and was a sequel to Palazhchenko’s other work: the English-Russian dictionary published in 1999. The 1999 English-Russian dictionary dealt with trends in the political, diplomatic and journalistic usage in the English language.[4][5]
Palazhchenko loves his trade. In his book, My Unsystematic Dictionary, Palazhchenko writes: This very occupation, to imbibe the air of a foreign (and your own) language, to rake through the throng of words and, having found the right one, feel its texture, its size and then grope for the threads connecting the two languages, has always been my favorite thing to do… – from “Book Tackles Those Hard Words”, The Moscow Times, June 3, 2002.[4]
In 2005, the third book of this series, Unsystematic Dictionary-2005 was published.
After becoming a long-time associate and aide to Mikhail Gorbachev for several years, Palazhchenko eventually became the head of the International Department of the International Non-governmental Foundation for Socio-Economic and Political Studies (or The Gorbachev Foundation), where he also functioned as an analyst, spokesperson, interpreter and translator.

Jeffrey Peter Hart (born April 22, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American cultural critic, essayist, columnist, and Professor Emeritus of English at Dartmouth College.
Hart was born and raised in New York, New York. After two years as an undergraduate at Dartmouth, he transferred to Columbia University, where he joined the Philolexian Society and obtained his A.B. (1952) and Ph.D., both in English literature.[1]
During the Korean War he served in U.S. Naval Intelligence, in Boston.[1][2]
A Professor of English literature at Dartmouth for three decades (1963–1993), Hart specialized in 18th century literature but also had a fondness for modernist literature. He was popular with the students, from whom he required a great deal of writing. His political apostasy annoyed his faculty colleagues: when they were concerned about fossil fuels he made it a point to commute to campus in a Cadillac limousine; he might have a mechanical hand drum the table when faculty meetings were too long.[3][4][5]
In 1962 he joined William F. Buckley's conservative journal National Review as a book reviewer, requiring a trip from Hanover, New Hampshire to New York every other week.[4] Later, he would contribute as a writer and senior editor for the better part of the ensuing three decades even as he fulfilled his teaching responsibilities as a professor at Dartmouth. He is still a contributor with the magazine.
Hart took a leave of absence from Dartmouth in 1968 to work for the abortive presidential campaign of Governor of California Ronald Reagan. This role led to brief service as a White House speechwriter for Richard Nixon.[4] After nomination by his former student Reggie Williams, Hart was honored with his college's Outstanding Teaching Award, 1992. He has also received the Young America's Foundation Engalitcheff Prize, 1996, among other academic accolades. In 1998, he served as a visiting lecturer at Nichols College.[4]
The Dartmouth Review was founded in his living room in 1980, and he has served as an adviser to it since then.[2] He wrote a regular column for King Features Syndicate[4] and retired from teaching. He currently lives in New Hampshire.
In recent years, he has launched a fierce Burkean critique of the policies of President of the United States George W. Bush in the pages of the American Conservative, the Washington Monthly, and The Wall Street Journal. Hart supported John Kerry in the 2004 election and Barack Obama in 2008.
