Former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown said Cameron has not exerted pressure on countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar because of the Conservative party’s links to rich Arab individuals. Ashdown added that the two countries should be asked to play a larger part in the military campaign against ISIL. Lord Ashdown also slammed the U-K policy in Syria, saying London should be impatient about the removal of ISIL and more patient about the removal of President Bashar al-Assad.

The secretary general of Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah is warning of Israeli threats to the region.
Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah described Israel as the frontline of a colonial project, which was established to eventually target the entire region. He added that Israel could not have survived without military and economic support from the west, namely the US. Addressing a conference in Beirut, Nasrallah criticized some Muslim nations for making strategic mistakes in understanding the true nature of Israel. He urged those states to change their approach, adding that Israel has goals that should be clarified to the Muslim ummah. He said Palestinians who’ve been battling Israel in the frontline for decades, to defend their land and Muslim holy sites, have done this for the entire Muslim World. Nasrallah noted that Muslims need a plan against the ongoing Israeli aggression, saying it’s wrong to think it no longer poses a threat to Muslim nations.

Oil has risen to yet another record high - just shy of $121 dollars a barrel.
One knock on effect is that some Arab countries are removing state subsidies, which are costing billions of dollars a year.
Jordan removed fuel subsidies in February and, since then, oil prices have shot up by 82 per cent.
Syria too is cutting subsidies, trying to soften the blow with a 25% hike in wages.
And now Egypt has announced a 40 to 50 percent hike in fuel prices - just two days after saying wages would go up by a third.

Revelation 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

Why is Russia sending troops to Syria?
The United States "remains open to tactical, practical discussions" with Russia over the fight against Islamic State in Syria, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a briefing.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, speaking in an interview with Syrian TV Thursday evening, said no Russian combat troops were fighting in Syria.
“Russia is supporting the Syrian government and is ready to offer everything possible to combat terrorism when it becomes necessary,” al-Moallem said. He said Syria will not hesitate to ask for Russia’s help in future if it is needed. His comments were the first by a senior Syrian official on Moscow’s military moves in Syria. He did not elaborate.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed Thursday that Moscow is happy to talk to Washington about its military co-operation with Syria.
Syrian army starts using new weapons from Russia - military source.
The Syrian military has recently started using new types of air and ground weapons supplied by Russia, a Syrian military source told Reuters on Thursday, underlining growing Russian support for Damascus that is alarming the United States.
"The weapons are highly effective and very accurate, and hit targets precisely," the source said in response to a question about Russian support. "We can say they are all types of weapons, be it air or ground."
Russian troops already engaged in battle against ISIS around Homs.
Contrary to the impression conveyed by Moscow that Russian troops in Syria are not engaged in combat and that none of the sophisticated arms deliveries were destined to the Syrian army, new developments belie both these claims.
Russia is deploying forces and equipment to the Syrian coastal city of Latakia to prop up the Syrian government forces fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as Isis, and other rebel groups.

France has urged the Persian Gulf Arab states to take in Syrian refugees who are escaping over four years of conflict in their country.
Prime Minister Manuel Valls said every country, particularly the Persian Gulf states, must accept refugees stressing that Europe cannot take in all of them alone. The French premier said a diplomatic, military and political solution is needed to help resolve the ongoing crisis in Syria. Amnesty International says Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE have not accepted any refugees since the conflict in Syria broke out in 2011. This, as they have supported the anti-government militants who have wreaked havoc in Syria since 2011. The ongoing crisis has so far claimed the lives of more than 250000 people. The UN says the militancy has internally displaced more than seven million Syrians, and compelled over four million others to take refuge mostly in neighboring countries.

It's always been the region’s worst kept secret: the relationship between Israel & Persian Gulf Arab dictatorships is going from strength to strength. In the latest sneak peek at how strong this partnership really is behind the scenes, the UAE is to allow the setting up an official Israeli presence on its soil for the 1st time ever, disguised as the Israeli presence to a UN energy agency. It has been argued that alignment of regional policies between Israel & Arab states in the Persian Gulf stretches from Syria, Iran, & even occupied Palestine. UAE-Israel relations in this edition of the Debate.

What does Russia hope to accomplish by its intervention in Syria? How have the Arab Gulf states responded, and how is this affecting recently improved GCC-Russian relations? What role are Iran and Hezbollah playing on the ground and likely to play at the negotiating table? Is the Obama administration seriously considering a substantive expansion of American military involvement in Syria, or will it focus primarily on diplomacy? Are the Vienna talks laying the groundwork for serious negotiations and a political settlement? And how does ISIL factor into the Syrian conflict, the trajectory of its development, and its impact on the region?
This AGSIW panel examines all these questions and more arising from Russia's intervention in Syria and the response of the Gulf Arab states.

Addressing worshippers at Tehran Friday Prayers, Larijani noted that Israel owes its survival to quote- the weakness and corruption of some Arab states and rivalries among them. He said Iran’s Islamic Revolution inspired Muslim states to fight Israel. The Iranian parliament speaker also spoke of the issue of terrorism. He said Takfiri terrorists demonize Islam and the West supports them to take revenge on Islam by tarnishing its image. Touching on the nuclear talks between Iran and P5+1 group of countries in Vienna, Larijani said the negotiations are a major test for Western governments. He added that a failure of nuclear talks would be a strategic mistake and wouldn’t benefit the West’s interests.

The American-Iranian Nuclear deal has brought strong criticism from Israel and the Arab states. Israel sees it as a threat to its existence. One of the outcomes has been the development of closer ties between the Arab states, answering to "Sheba and Dedan" of Ezekiel, and also the development of better relationships with Israel.
Headlines this week revolved around the historic agreement between the USA and Iran regarding the nuclear agreement.
President Obama proudly took the podium brag about his “peace in our time” nuclear agreement. Here are some of the excerpts of his deal:
Obama address the nation about the Iran Nuclear Deal
Today, the United States -- together with our allies and partners -- has reached a historic understanding with Iran, which, if fully implemented, will prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon…. I am convinced that if this framework leads to a final, comprehensive deal, it will make our country, our allies, and our world safer.
Today, after many months of tough, principled diplomacy, we have achieved the framework for that deal. And it is a good deal, a deal that meets our core objectives. This framework would cut off every pathway that Iran could take to develop a nuclear weapon. Iran will face strict limitations on its program, and Iran has also agreed to the most robust and intrusive inspections and transparency regime ever negotiated for any nuclear program in history. So this deal is not based on trust, it’s based on unprecedented verification.
Many key details will be finalized over the next three months, and nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed. But here are the basic outlines of the deal that we are working to finalize.
First, Iran will not be able to pursue a bomb using plutonium, because it will not develop weapons-grade plutonium. The core of its reactor at Arak will be dismantled and replaced. The spent fuel from that facility will be shipped out of Iran for the life of the reactor. Iran will not build a new heavy-water reactor. And Iran will not reprocess fuel from its existing reactors -- ever.
Second, this deal shuts down Iran’s path to a bomb using enriched uranium. Iran has agreed that its installed centrifuges will be reduced by two-thirds. Iran will no longer enrich uranium at its Fordow facility. Iran will not enrich uranium with its advanced centrifuges for at least the next 10 years. The vast majority of Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium will be neutralized….
Third, this deal provides the best possible defense against Iran’s ability to pursue a nuclear weapon covertly -- that is, in secret. International inspectors will have unprecedented access not only to Iranian nuclear facilities, but to the entire supply chain that supports Iran’s nuclear program -- from uranium mills that provide the raw materials, to the centrifuge production and storage facilities that support the program. If Iran cheats, the world will know it. If we see something suspicious, we will inspect it. Iran’s past efforts to weaponize its program will be addressed. With this deal, Iran will face more inspections than any other country in the world.
The ongoing failure of Obama to deal with Iran was made evident in an article in the New York Times, (April 3, 2015), commenting on the negotiations and the agreements that came out of them:
But as the talks hit one deadline after another, the administration had to compromise more. Instead of maintaining strict limits throughout the life of a 15-year accord, for example, it began to talk about keeping the toughest limits — the ones that would extend to a year the time Iran needed to produce enough nuclear material for a bomb — in place for at least 10 years….
The growth of the Iranian nuclear project has been substantial since Obama has been in office, the article stated:
“Iran had a few hundred working centrifuges in 2003, thousands when Mr. Obama took over and 19,000 now.”

The Arab Spring brought much hope and expectation of greater human rights and democracy, but within months, most of those countries had plunged into political turmoil. Societies that had maintained some level of stability and cohesion, found themselves in conflict and civil war. Their economies have suffered and their societies have disintegrated with devastating consequences for their people. At the same time, the struggle for democracy and transition also continued in several Asian countries such as Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Indonesia and Myanmar. The early years of democracy have been rocky, but compared to the Middle East, Asia may have more reason to be optimistic.
Dr Waheed will speak about democratic transition in Maldives: issues, challenges and solutions. After a long period of autocratic rule, multi-party elections were held in Maldives in 2008. The first five years of democracy have not been smooth, but in contrast to some of the Arab countries, Maldives has avoided bloodshed, continues to safeguard its economy and keep democracy on track.
Dr Waheed will examine the difficulties inherent in making a sudden transition and the issues related to constitutional reform, political parties and elections, independent state institutions, the media and the national economy. He argues that the speed of change, the maturity of the political elite, the level of the people’s understanding of democracy and the strength of the economy are important variables in determining the quality of transition to democracy. He examines the pitfalls along the way and reflects on how to avoid them.

In Support of the Syria Response Plan (SRP) and the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP)
31 March: As the Syrian conflict enters its fifth year with no political solution in sight, 12.2 million people remain in dire need of assistance. Nearly half of all Syrians have been forced from their homes – 3.8 million people have fled to Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt, and 7.6 million people have been internally displaced – making this the largest displacement crisis in the world.
The Third Pledging Conference - which took place in Kuwait City - aimed to raise the funds required to meet the needs set out in the 2015 Syria Response Plan and the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP) 2015-2016.
