The essential Shanghai travel guide – Butch Bradley, Allan Wu and Li-Lin Wong tour you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Shanghai.
What to do in Shanghai in the month of August 2014:
This month, we take you through the wide assortment of local and international cuisines Shanghai has to offer. There are lots of great restaurants, bars, as well as unique street food and snack streets to be found here. We also meet top chefs Willy Trullas Moreno, of El Willy and Elefante, and Jean Georges and Sandy Yoon of Mercato, showcasing the best of their restaurants’ offerings.
After eating, why not go shopping? For a truly offbeat experience, head on over to the Tian Zi Fang shopping district, in Shanghai’s French Concession area. Formerly a residential area, Tian Zi Fang still bears the traditional style of Shikumen residences while presenting an interesting variety of modern art galleries, coffee shops, and local boutiques.
If you're in town this month of August, catch the following shows and events:
Lee Min Woo - Luwan Gymnasium (Aug 9)
Jay Park - Qianshuiwan Culture and Arts Center (Aug 16)
Matt Duke – MAO Livehouse Shanghai (Aug 23)
Kenny G – Shanghai Oriental Art Centre (Sept 4)
Also catch “The Gathering” at the Kung Fu Komedy Club, hosted by Butch Bradley, every Saturday, 8PM onwards. Music, comedy, interviews, and more. You’re bound to have a great time!
While in Shanghai, make sure to check out:
The Bund
Oriental Pearl TV Tower
Jin Mao Tower & Shanghai World Financial Center
Pier 16
Yu Garden
Longhua Temple
Shanghai Zoo
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
Shanghai Science & Technology Museum
Experience Shanghai's exciting mix of traditional sites and modern architectural landmarks - all here in this bustling and dynamic metropolis!
And whether you’re interested in shopping for trendy luxury goods or local traditional goods, Shanghai has got you covered. West Nanjing Road (Nanjing Xi Lu) is the Beverly Hills of Shanghai, with highly coveted brand boutiques and malls lining up the city street. Meanwhile, those interested in traditional Chinese tea sets, antiques, and craftwork will enjoy exploring Shanghai’s old street.
With so much to do around Shanghai, it’s important to know the easiest ways of getting around Shanghai. Take note of Litong Xu’s useful tips on finding taxicabs as well as their service hotlines.

We spent a week in Shanghai, China! And if you love food, you should watch this :)
Our hotel- The Hyatt on the Bund Shanghai
Nanjing Road- Great for a view of the skyline at night and if you follow it all the way down you will find plenty of shopping as well as food
The Vue- Fancy dim sum dishes and tea
Yu Garden- Lots of food and shopping, we had jumbo soup dumplings but it honestly wasn't our favorite but theres a lot of other street food as well
Oriental Pearl Tower- A TV broadcasting tower with a 360 degree view of Shanghai
Yang's Dumplings- Popular fried dumplings
Super Brand Mall- ITS HUGEEE and endless shopping, we found the Teenie Weenie cafe and it was so cute and delicious
Confucius Temple- We toured the temple and even wrote down our wishes for the wishing tree
Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony- We got to see and taste a vast variety of teas
Crystal Jade Restaurant- Great for cantonese styled dishes and roast duck
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium- Beautiful Aquarium but was not very big
XianTianDi/French Concession- French influenced area with tons of great cafes and restaurants and high end retailers, our favorite was The Beast Cafe and we got a rose latte with a strawberry cake. It was perfection!
Tian Zi Fang- Cute area with lots of small shops great for souvenir shopping and small restaurants
Modern Toilet- A Japanese toilet themed restaurant! We had chocolate ice cream, honey toast, and milk tea which were all surprisingly good!
Tono's Palace- A cat cafe for cat lovers!
Cafe Dan- The world's best Cafe Latte! We had to go back before we left and I'd go back to Shanghai just for that.

You're watching INSIDER TV - the insider's guide to the world's most exciting cities!
Here's your essential Shanghai travel guide - our hosts Jin Ye and Jack Cameron tour you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Shanghai. What to do in Shanghai in the month of April 2015:
GETTING AROUND:
The Maglev train currently connects the airport to Shanghai's subway system but if you're not staying in Pudong, it is faster and wiser to take a taxi. You can hail a taxi anywhere in the city to get to People's Square, but remember that taxi rate increases by around 35% during night time. Public buses charge ¥2, but for the truly adventurous only. The subway is definitely the most efficient way to go around the city - from Pudong to Minghang Disrict and all they way to Kunshan in Jiangsu Province.
ATTRACTIONS:
The Bund is Shanghai's famous waterfront area which runs on the western side of the Huangpu River, facing Pudong. The main attractions tourists can find here are the Light of Huangpu River, Sail, and Wind sculptures, the Chenyi Square and The Sightseeing Tunnel.
Shanghai Museum boasts one of mainland China's best collections of ancient Chinese artifacts. Learn more about the Chinese culture as you explore the four-floor museum which has a collection of over 120,000 precious historical relics, calligraphy works, paintings, furniture, and sculptures.
Shanghai is a flourishing city where you can find all the good food from all over the world. With nearly 60 thousand restaurants in the city, the food choices here are endless!
While in Shanghai, make sure to check out:
• Shikumen Residences
• Shanghai Zoo
• Guyi Garden
• Jing'an Garden
• Oriental Pearl Tower
• Nanjing Pedestrian Road

23 Millionen davon leben in Shanghai.

Shanghai is the future all other Chinese cities aspire to reach. Forget creaking temples and dusty old palaces (there are plenty of them elsewhere); Shanghai is where people come to see modern China at its glimmering best.
This fast-paced city of towering skyscrapers is, in fact, not without its own significant history. Its glory days of the 1930s helped build Shanghai's reputation as a City of Sin. But to pause for too long at the city's past would be missing the point: Shanghai is all about the future face of the world's future super power, and coming here is to witness what makes the business end of China tick.
Perhaps best visited at the end of your trip to China, Shanghai offers history-tired tourists the chance to dine at glitzy restaurants, wine at funky cocktail bars and shop inside dazzling malls before resting up in the country's most impressive hotels.

You're watching INSIDER TV - the insider's guide to the world's most exciting cities!
Here's your essential Shanghai travel guide - our hosts Jin Ye and Jack Cameron tour you around the best places to eat, drink, shop, and play in Shanghai. What to do in Shanghai in the month of March 2015:
GETTING AROUND:
The Maglev train currently connects the airport to Shanghai's subway system but if you're not staying in Pudong, it is faster and wiser to take a taxi. You can hail a taxi anywhere in the city to get to People's Square, but remember that taxi rate increases by around 35% during night time. Public buses charge ¥2, but for the truly adventurous only. ATTRACTIONS:

EAT, SHOP, AND PARTY:
Shanghai is a flourishing city where you can find all the good food from all over the world. With nearly 60 thousand restaurants in the city, the food choices here are endless!
Dine at Shun Feng Gang for remarkable Chinese cuisine. Taste the refreshing but delicate regional flavors of Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou. For some brunch, snack, or dinner, drop by at Xiangxinji. Its laid back atmosphere plus pan-fried flour dumplings are popular to locals and tourists alike.
If shopping is in your agenda, you've come to the right place! Between Pudong and Puxi, there are a dozen of shopping malls to explore day and night.
Sample off-the-hook cocktails prepared by skilled mixologists at The Roof. One of the most outstanding bars in the city, The Roof is the perfect cap off for a day of sightseeing in Shanghai.
While in Shanghai, make sure to check out:
• Shikumen Residences
• Shanghai Zoo
• Guyi Garden
• Jing'an Garden
• Oriental Pearl Tower
• Nanjing Pedestrian Road

Shanghai (Chinese: 上海; Shanghainese: Zånhae; Mandarin pinyin: Shànghǎi) is the largest city by population of the People's Republic of China (PRC) [6][7] and the largest city proper by population in the world.[8] It is one of the four province-level municipalities of the PRC, with a total population of over 23 million as of 2010.[4] It is a global city, with influence in commerce, culture, finance, media, fashion, technology, and transport. It is a major financial center[9] and the busiest container port in the world.[10]
Located in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China, Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. The municipality borders Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces to the west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.[11]
Once a fishing and textiles town, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to its favorable port location and was one of the cities opened to foreign trade by the 1842 Treaty of Nanking which allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement. The city then flourished as a center of commerce between east and west, and became the undisputed financial hub of the Asia Pacific in the 1930s.[12] However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, the city's international influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city.[13]
Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yuyuan Garden, as well as the extensive and growing Pudong skyline. It has been described as the "showpiece" of the booming economy of mainland China.[14][15]

https://www.expedia.com/Hong-Kong.d178263.Destination-Travel-Guides
Hong Kong, a former British territory, is one of the most densely populated places in China and in the world. You’ll find quiet neighborhoods full of temples and a dazzling skyline loaded with shopping and dining opportunities.
Your Hong Kong tour must include visits to the many religious sites scattered around the city, where incense wafts from shrines and monasteries take over entire hillsides. You’ll have a marvelous time shopping in tax-free Hong Kong, where you’ll be able to find clothing, jewelry, furniture, and everything else under the sun.
Don’t forget about Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, which overlooks the stunning Victoria Harbor. From there, your Hong Kong sightseeing may detour to Central, the city’s main business district, which looks like something out of a sci-fi film. The observation deck atop the International Commerce Centre will show you fantastic views of the city.
Hong Kong isn’t all cityscape, of course; there are many gardens, parks, and other green spaces for you to explore. You’ll also find beaches, national parks, and quiet islands for you to indulge in natural beauty and serenity. This city truly has everything.

Citroen C4 Aircross at Auto Shanghai 2015
PSA Peugeot Citroen never settled for only showing the C4 Aircross in Geneva, so they thought the crossover's presence at Auto Shanghai 2015 would benefit the brand's sales-improving efforts.

At the Shanghai Auto Show 2015 his intentions became crystal clear, his company unveiling the Emgrand concept, a preview for a potential sports s

Unfortunately, rules in China are different and we couldn’t get too close to the concept. Even so, we now have a good idea what i

PSA Peugeot Citroen never settled for only showing the C4 Aircross in Geneva, so they thought the crossover's presence at Auto Shanghai 2015 would benefit the brand's sales-improving efforts.
We should find out later if that tactic had any success when the company details yearly sales in China. For now, we paid the Citroen stand a visit in Shanghai and greeted the C4 Aircross crossover. We're basically looking at the same car presented in Geneva two years ago, and if I remember right, the car was underpinned by the same platform used by the Mitsubishi ASX.
You might also know the C4 Aircross from its Peugeot correspondent, the 4008, but Auto Shanghai provided an interesting bridge between old and new for Citroen.
While the C4 Aircross' production will be discontinued in 2016, the French group strategically unveiled the 2015 Citroen Aircross compact SUV prototype. Yes, that's the replacement for the aging C4 Aircross, a concept that is touted as the Cactus' bigger brother.
It's also a great opportunity to put under magnifying glass what the new car will bring over the old. The C4 Aircross featured a good-looking body kit, despite being overdone here and there.
In terms of engine options, two petrol engines served the crossover - a 1.6-liter 115 HP unit and a 2.0-liter 150 HP mill. The diesel department was represented by an 110 HP unit along with a more powerful 150 HP one, and that was pretty much it.
Nonetheless, the Aircross prototype comes with a 1.6-liter turbo engine good for 220 HP, but it also gets a boost from a rear-mounted electric motor that adds another 95 HP to the equation. Combined, you get a lot of power, considering Citroen's output-restricted engines that rarely go over the 120 HP mark.
Despite no word on a future production model generated by the prototype, all we can hope is that the new model will grab a lot of styling cues from the Aircross study, as design is without doubt a strong point for Citroen.

Since BMW and Mercedes have already shared slices of the Chinese car market, Jaguar wants a bite too and the new XF is just one of the models tasked with this mission.
So here it is, making a debut on Chinese territory, ready to claim its market share. Here, more than any other part of the world, the XF has the advantage of China's businessmen developing a taste for luxury sedans.
That's the exact reason why Daimler first launched the Mercedes-Maybach in China, why Ford is coming with the 2016 Ford Taurus in Shanghai before the United States and why Volvo prepared the XC90 Excellence.
Coming back to the specimen displayed by Jaguar at Auto Shanghai 2015, we're pleased to confirm what the first wave of official pictures was claiming. The sedan is a good-looking car and there's a more knit-together air coming from the XF's body, maybe because the Jag is 3 mm lower and 7 mm shorther than the generation it replaces.
Unfortunately, we're not allowed access inside the car (again) but Jaguar promised a "clear sense of calm and strenght, both inside and outside", but Chinese buyers should expect the leaping cat's finest expertise when it comes to interior design and materials and most likely, those in the back will be the most spoiled passengers.
We could expect individual reclining seats as well as a dashboad which offers access to the sedan's multimedia features, but it's yet to be see if and how will Jaguar approach the matter. All we know for sure is that the XF will pack an all-new 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system dubbed InControl Touch Pro.
On a more strategic note, Jaguar decided to produce the XE in China, which means the XF might follow its little brother, especially since Jaguar's plans for China are of an ambitious nature.

It’s a known fact that billionaire Li Shufu has big plans for his company, especially since it took over Volvo. Don’t know who he is? He’s the man behind Geely, one of the biggest car makers in China and, coincidence or not, owner of Volvo Cars as well.
At the Shanghai Auto Show 2015 his intentions became crystal clear, his company unveiling the Emgrand concept, a preview for a potential sports sedan that would go ahead and take on the likes of the 3 Series in the future.
Developed under the direction of former Volvo Cars design chief Peter Horbury, the Emgrand was apparently inspired by the West Lake Bridge in Hangzhou (the hometown of Geely) and the Shanghai skyscrapers. Even so, we could see some cues from other cars as well.
Despite all that, we have to admit that the concept they came up with looks clean and composed, at least compared to the rest of the Chinese market and what it has to offer. It also fits right in if Geely is to make a global move and expand beyond China with more courage.
Is BMW supposed to be afraid?
Probably not, not for now at least as Geely is still a relatively young brand that can’t afford to tackle the real giants in the industry. However, in 20 years the situation could be different not only because of the growth of the Chinese company but also because the way transportation will change.
Factors like driving experience and handling will matter less in the future, and other will start gaining traction. Things like luxury, comfort, good looks and pricing will be of the utmost importance. This is what could trigger the downfall of BMW and the rise of companies such as Geely.
That’s because they’ll probably be able to offer similar cars with a smaller price tag and simply push out the competition with their sales volumes. Until then we’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out though, and you can tell us what you think of the Geely Emgrand Concept in the comments section below.

Honda and its Chinese joint venture partner Dongfeng have revealed a new crossover SUV concept at the Auto Shanghai 2015 show today. It's called the Concept D, and its design is surprisingly refreshing, especially when you compare it to the plain-ol' CR-V.
It's easy to be taken in with the design of a concept car and get disappointed by the production model. But Honda ensures us they will stick to this aggressive look when the yet unnamed model goes into production.
This D-segment SUV is going to be individually tailored to the Chinese consumer's needs. Honda Motor China Investment General Manager Kuraishi Seiji was on stage and suggested the Concept D will become a value-rich flagship that will change perception of the brand.
The front end is dominated by the wing-like design of the metallic grille. On the top and bottom, an array of LEDs hugs the metal tightly, after which they flow down to form an air intake.
The profile of the concept we saw in Shanghai was bulky and masculine, but reminded us of a sleek wagon like the Accord Crosstour, not a full-on SUV. The mirrors are tiny, and the door handles fit flush into the body, but that's to be expected from a concept.
Just like on the Vezel/HR-V, Honda has aggressively sloped the rear hatch and even decided to add a spoiler. The large air vents integrated into the bumper don't make any sense, but they look cool and give a clear indication that this is a plug-in car (the powertrain was not revealed).
We're going to have to wait another few year before seeing how the story of this large crossover ends. For now though, Honda is launching the CR-V facelift and new City sedan in China, via Shanghai 2015.

"Welcome to a future where the Zergs from StarCraft will take over the planet and drive Chevys in the process" is what I get from just looking at Chevrolet's FNR Concept freshly presented at Auto Shanghai 2015.
Seeing the FNR Concept in Shanghai makes you drop everything and spend all day at Chevrolet's stand. Forget about the "Find New Roads" motto that dictates the concept's name, Chevrolet is on some "Find New Galaxies" stuff with this prototype.
Just a rumors announced, Chevy FNR is a self-driving electric prototype that offers a very futuristic image of what mobility will have to offer in the next century.
According to Chevrolet, "engineering, design and electrification teams drew on their past experience developing electric concept vehicles. Their aim was to create a unique, intelligent vehicle for tomorrow’s younger consumers by utilizing innovative car networking technology".
Yes, we see what they did there, but there's more detail than PR-esque description. The FNR concept was fitted with crystal laser headlights and taillights, dragonfly dual swing doors and magnetic hubless wheel electric motors plus a wireless auto-charge system. You know, for those moments when cosmic travel takes its toll on the car.
The entire concept is built around a futuristic capsule design, but sci-fi gadgets are really FNR study's specialty. The prototype features sensors and roof-mounted radar that can map out the environment to enable driverless operation, Chevy Intelligent Assistant and iris recognition engine start-up.
In self-driving mode, the vehicle's front seats can turn 180 degrees to face the rear seats, creating a more intimate setting, just like the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion autonomous prototype. In addition, the driver can switch to manual mode through the gesture control feature by using that big flowing screen covering the entire dashboard.
We made sure the photo gallery has plenty of shots from different angles, as the Chevrolet FNR is without doubt the most out-of-this-universe concept unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2015.

Looking extremely funky and a lot better in the metal than we expected, the Citroen Aircross Concept sat back and winked at us on the floor of the Shanghai Auto Show 2015. Attracted by what the French are proposing for the future, we headed over to introduce ourselves.
Unfortunately, rules in China are different and we couldn’t get too close to the concept. Even so, we now have a good idea what it represents and what the French want it to do.
Set to represent the way Citroen did things along the 95 years of its history, the new concept is different than anything else we have on the road today. 50 million vehicles sold over the years prove that the double chevron brand did things right.
As a matter of fact, the ever growing crossover segment would be lucky to get such a car from Citroen. The thing is, being based on the C4 Cactus, the Aircross Concept is hard to say no to. It’s, more than anything, a breath of fresh air that is brought along by the curves that are ever noticeable on it.
Unlike other, more conventional cars that have harder creases and sharper lines, even the tires on this concept seem to be sporting a more circular, rounder design.
The 22-inch wheels they are wrapped around are also pretty imposing and, combined with the front fascia that features slim headlights and a huge skid plate, create a powerful image all around.
Under the bonnet lies a plug-in hybrid powertrain made up of a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 218 HP and 203 lb-ft (275 Nm) of torque along with an electric motor.
That last bit is in charge of powering the rear wheels alone and is good for 95 HP and 147 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque. Since the Aircross is similar in size to an Audi Q5 or BMW X3, it’s not all that impressive that it will do 62 mph in 4.5 seconds from a standstill.
Unfortunately, for now, Citroen hasn’t decided yet whether it will make it to production or not. Keep your fingers crossed though!

A Chinese man who travels to the Wild West to rescue a kidnapped princess. After teaming up with a train robber, the unlikely duo takes on a Chinese traitor and his corrupt boss.
Shanghai Noon is a 2000 Chinese-American adventure comedy western film starring Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson. The film, marking the directorial debut of Tom Dey, was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
The film, set in Nevada and other parts of the American West in the 19th century, is a juxtaposition of a western with a kung fu action film with extended martial arts sequences. It also has elements of comedy and the "Buddy Cop" film genre, as it involves two men of different personalities and ethnicities (a Chinese imperial guard and a Western outlaw) who team up to stop a crime. It was partially filmed in the Canadian Badlands, near Drumheller, Alberta, Canada, and also near Cochrane, Alberta. A sequel, Shanghai Knights, was released in 2003, with David Dobkin as director.
Plot
Chon Wang is a Chinese imperial guard in 1881. After Princess Pei-Pei, for whom Wang has affection, is abducted and taken to the United States, the Emperor of China sends three of his guards to retrieve her. Wang is not one of the three, but he tells them that it was his fault the princess was kidnapped. The Captain of the Imperial Guards first refuses, but when the Royal Interpreter, Wang's uncle, offers to allow Wang to come help with the baggage, the Captain agrees in the hopes that the "foreign devils" would get rid of Wang. In Nevada, Roy O'Bannon is an outlaw who, with his gang, hijacks the train Wang is on. When Wallace, a member of Roy's gang, kills Wang's uncle, Wang chases the outlaws down. However, the gang is well-armed and Wang's only choice is to unhinge the cars and get away on the engine. In the process, Wallace takes over the gang from Roy, and they leave him buried up to his chin in the desert sand. Meanwhile, Pei-Pei, who was tricked into believing she was freely escaping her arranged marriage in China, finds out she has been kidnapped by an agent of Lo Fong, who ran away from the Forbidden City and was viewed as a traitor by the Chinese.
When Wang finds Roy buried in the sand, he demands to know the direction to Carson City. Roy tells him that the city is on the other side of a mountain. Wang puts two chop sticks in Roy's mouth for him to dig himself out. When Wang comes out the other side of the mountain, he gets involved with a Sioux tribe by saving a boy chased by the Crow tribe and ends up reluctantly marrying the tribe chief's daughter, Falling Leaves. Wang finds Roy in a tavern and, in anger, starts a fight with him that turns into a barroom brawl. The two of them get sent to prison, and after Falling Leaves helps them escape, they become friends. Roy trains Wang in the ways of the cowboy.
When they get to Carson City, Roy discovers that both he and Wang, now identified as the "Shanghai Kid" are wanted by Lo Fong's ally Marshal Nathan Van Cleef, and the two of them narrowly escape. They go to a bordello (which Roy describes as his "hideout"), but after a drunken encounter by Wang, the Marshal eventually catches and arrests them. They find out that Lo Fong is behind the kidnapping of the princess. As they are about to be hanged, Wang manages to break himself free and after Falling Leaves shoots Roy loose, they escape the execution site. Wang, upset over Roy previously telling one of the prostitutes at the bordello he was not Wang's friend, rides off alone to find the princess. However, Roy follows him and the two reunite when Roy saves him from Fong.

Anthony Bourdain, chef, writer, traveler, visits places all around the world sampling various foods.
With Bourdain's whit and sarcasm this show is never boring. He much like the world's most sarcastic tourist that travels off the beaten path and goes to more rural areas. His interest in the bizare and the more common food of each country he visit is amazing to see. But not only does he take you to see the food sights but also introduces you to the culture and history of that country he is in at the time. His shows funny, entertaining and educational.
He will take you to deep fried snake skins in Vietnam to scramble eggs bushmen style in Nambia and also normal foods like beer and sausages in Germany.
