Economic challenges and unemployment were key campaign priority areas during last year's presidential elections, that saw Patriotic
Front's Edgar Lungu elected to replace the late President Michael Sata. The United Party for National Development millonnaire-leader Hakainde Hichilema, lost the vote to President Lungu by just under two percentage points. Mr Hichilema castigated the polls as a sham, alleging irregularities and vote rigging. Meanwhile, Zambia's Young African Leaders Initiative has blamed Mr Hichilema for playing double standards on the issue of Constitutional reforms.

Zambia's rich mineral resources are one of the country's most important assets. They contribute to national income, exports, employment and government revenue. As the country looks to the future, Zambia faces important choices on how to manage its mineral wealth. There are trade-offs in the design of the mining fiscal regime. Mining inevitably entails environmental and public health risks. Mining firms make choices about procurement that influences the industry's contribution to the Zambian economy.
This brief video introduces the World Bank's Fifth Zambia Economic Brief "Making Mining Work for Zambia: The Economic, Health, and Environmental Nexus of Zambia's Copper Mining Economy," which was released in June 2015. It asks how Zambia can uses its mineral resources to help the country achieve its economic development ambitions. The report suggests areas where the government, business community, and civil society can collaborate to enhance the contribution of mining to Zambia.

What with new construction, increased population and renewed hope for development, Lusaka has become a hub of activity. People are moving in from all over Zambia in search of jobs and opportunity. One of the fastest growing cities in central Africa, it has become a cultural, economic and political hub.
It is quite busy, and that makes the markets fun. Because there are so many vendors clamouring for your attention, there are lots of possibilities to bargain. (I think a responsible tourist doesn't bargain too hard!)
I have heard that pick-pockets lurk in Lusaka and to be quite careful, but I think that can be said of any big city.
The diversity of people and religions keeps things interesting

Governments can make better decisions if they are more aware how forest ecosystems contribute to their economy and employment, and how forests benefit human well-being. This information could provide all concerned ministries with the necessary knowledge to decide how tropical deforestation rates can be reduced as part of a transition to a green economy. This Discussion Forum provides an overview of recent forest economic valuations carried out in Zambia, Tanzania and Panama by the UN-REDD Programme. Besides presenting key findings of these studies, the panellists will demonstrate how the results have been or can be used by their respective government agencies – including by incorporating them in the development of national REDD+ Strategies.
