Uttar Pradesh /ˌʌtər prəˈdɛʃ/, abbreviation U.P. ("Northern Province"; formerly: United Provinces), is a state located in the north western part of India. With a population of over 200 million people, it is India's most populous state, as well as the world's most populous sub-national entity. Were it a nation in its own right, Uttar Pradesh would be the world's fifth most populous country, ahead of Brazil (a country thirty-five times larger in territorial area than Uttar Pradesh). On 9 November 2000, the Himalayan portion of the state, comprising the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions and Haridwar district, was formed into a new state 'Uttaranchal', now called Uttarakhand, meaning the 'Northern Segment' state.
Uttar Pradesh is the second largest state-economy in India, with a GDP of $103.5 billion in 2009. The annual per capita GDP of the state was $1586 in 2009, on purchasing power parity basis. It contributed 8.34% to India's total GDP in the financial year 2010. Agriculture is a significant part of UP's economy. The state was India's sixth largest producer of fruits, and became the largest producer of vegetables in 2010. With an area of 93,933 sq mi (243,290 km2), Uttar Pradesh covers a large part of the highly fertile and densely populated upper Gangetic plain. It shares an international border with Nepal to the north. Other states along Uttar Pradesh's border include Uttarakhand, Haryana and Delhi to the north and northwest; Rajasthan on the west; Madhya Pradesh on the south; Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand on the south east; and Bihar on the east.

Police officers were suspended for their involvement. The leader of the robbery was in police custody when the crime took place. He was being transported from jail to the courthouse by police officials at the time.
The Rs. 2 crore-loot from a jewellery shop in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district has once again exposed the dark side of our police department which has been constituted to protect people’s interests and take care of them from the criminals. But what if they join hands with those criminals and act against us?
The Rs. 2 crore loot from Bulandshahr’s LM Jewellers showroom, where six men dressed in police uniform, came from a Tata Safari car on a pretext of checking security measures. Now, the involvement of police is also being alleged into the loot.
It has been said that Satish aka Amit, who was brought to Aligarh court from Haldwani for hearing, was also actively involved in the plunder. The initial investigation has revealed that Amit managed the Uttarakhand Police officials, who took him to Aligarh, and executed the loot with the help of his group’s leader and his cousin Inderpal Tau.
Post returning from Aligarh, the U’khand police officials again locked him into Haldwani jail. It is to be known that Amit is facing imprisonment for looting a jewellery shop in Udham Singh Nagar.
However, now the involvement of Uttarakhand police officials has become clear and on Saturday evening, a police team was sent to Haldwani to arrest the accused cops. SSP Akhilesh Meena informed on the same day that the cops, who were taken Amit to Aligarh for court hearing, will be arrested. Earlier, Udham Singh Nagar police Superintendent of Police had suspended the accused cops.
Three days after the loot, the senior police authorities suspended then police station acting in-charge Rameshwar and Judges’ Compound Police Station in-charge Rakesh Kumar.
Meanwhile, police is expecting that Amit would have planned the loot after the hearing in Aligarh court with his cousin Inderpal. It has been claimed that Inderpal had earlier planned the whole crime.
However, the police are still trying to unfold the whole truth behind the crime as the main accused is still claiming to be innocent. The sources have also revealed that the group came to Bulandshahr in Maruti Suzuki Esteem and Hyundai Verna cars and after executing the plan ran away in a Tata Safari.
However, police’s alleged involvement in the loot has added yet another blot on their already tainted image in public.

The Kashi Naresh (Maharaja of Kashi) is the chief cultural patron of Varanasi, and an essential part of all religious celebrations. The culture of Varanasi is closely associated with the Ganges. The city has been a cultural center of North India for several thousand years, and has a history that is older than most of the major world religions. The Benares Gharana form of Hindustani classical music was developed in Varanasi, and many prominent Indian philosophers, poets, writers, and musicians live or have lived in Varanasi. Gautama Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath located near Varanasi.

Art lovers and historians like Rai Krishnadasa, his son Anand Krishna, musicians Omkarnath Thakur, Ravi Shankar, Bismillah Khan, Girija Devi, Siddheshwari Devi, Lalmani Misra and his son Gopal Shankar Misra,Thakur Rajbhan Singh, N. Rajam, Anokhelal Mishra, Samta Prasad, Kanthe Maharaj, Sitara Devi, Gopi Krishna, Kishan Maharaj, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Chhannulal Mishra and numerous others have kept the city alive to the spiritual aspect of fine arts in addition to their ability to entertain. Numerous festivals are celebrated that preserve traditional styles of classical and folk culture. All night, open music concerts like those organised at Sankat Mochan Temple, Hori, Kajari, Chaiti Mela, and Budwa Mangal, are annual features that draw connoisseurs from near and far.
Varanasi is the hub of arts and crafts, particularly silks and brocades with gold and silver thread work, carpet weaving (with a carpet-weaving centre at Bhadoi), wooden toys, bangles made of glass, ivory work, perfumes, artistic brass and copper ware and a variety of handicrafts. The former cantonment graveyard during British Raj is now the location of Varanasi's Arts and Crafts.

I arrived to Varanasi, India, in the winter, in early February, and when I was walking around on the streets I noticed a huge pan of something yellow that almost looked like soap suds. There wasn't just a single street food vendor selling this stuff, there were many many of them and they always attracted quite a few customers who would stop on the side of the road, grab a quick dish, chow it down furiously and then continue on their way. So one day while I was in Varanasi, I decided it was time to try it for myself. During this video, I had no clue what it was or what it included, I was just curious to sample it and see what it all included. So I found a vendor with a fresh supply and he informed me that it was called malaiyo.
Malaiyo is a seasonal famous Varanasi dessert, it's available throughout the state of Uttar Pradesh but normally only in the winter. It's a milk dairy based dessert, almost like a pudding that's been fluffed with air. I ordered a clay bold full of malaiyo, which cost just 10 Rupees, and I was all ready to dig in. It was extremely light and fluffly, really the texture was about like thick soap suds. It was like eating sweet egg bubbles. Along with the creamy foam, the malaiyo was seasoned nicely with lots of sugar and I could really detect a lot of cardamon, a spice that's commonly added to desserts in India. Finally, each dish was sprinkled with a few pistachios to make it complete.
Overall, I really enjoyed my first taste of Indian malaiyo. It's not something I would eat everyday, but I sure loved it. It was extremely light, offered zero filling for the stomach but just tasted good and was a nice sweet treat while walking through the chaotic streets of Varanasi, India.

A compilation featuring the highlights of the first day on India's longest Rajdhani in terms of distance. The tri-weekly Trivandrum Rajdhani is a superb train to travel on. Leaving Nizamuddin at 11 in the morning, it races through the plains of Uttar Pradesh till Mathura, before swerving south-westwards into Rajasthan. Past the barren terrain of Bharatpur, Bayana and Gangapur, the Rajdhani crosses Sawai Madhopur, after which it travels for sometime past the hills forming the outer boundary of the Ranthambhor Tiger Reserve, curving sharply along this stretch. The first stop is at Kota, 458 kilometres away, covered in this instance in around 4 hours and 50 minutes at an average speed of over 95 kmph.
The Rajdhani continues its south-western sprint post Kota, racing through the forests and sharp elongated curves of the Dara Pass. Subsequently, it skips the major stations of Shamgarh and Nagda, crosses the Chambal river, and sedately crosses the station of Ratlam, having covered 731 kilometres in seven hours and 30 minutes at a whopping average speed of 96 kmph.
As evening descends, the Rajdhani is hit by a 100 kmph barrier and snakes through the Panch Pipla hill ranges. We enter the state of Gujarat after Dahod and post Godhra, are able to hit up to 120 kmph where the Mumbai Rajdhani crosses us with a Ghaziabad WAP5. At Vadodara, we change traction from electric to diesel and are subsequently powered by a Golden Rock WDP3A. As we head through coastal Gujarat, we undertake two major station skips of Bharuch and Surat at a steady pace, also crossing the Narmada river after Bharuch.

I was travelling around some rural Uttar Pradesh of Northern India, and most interesting site to visit was old railway stations with old system, old punching ticketing system, old railway houses. Very interesting they were. And you can find typical Indian dresses, men, women, kids and real Indian everyday life, the crowd, the color, the native dialect, fragrance of India - That all you can find in typical Indian railway stations.
When I compare the Indian train stations from city and from village or little remote, there is a huge difference. You can distinguish. For the foreigners who have seen only from old movies, and stereotypes, you will get sad if you try to search beauty in cities, it only exist in small village, town train stations.

The city acquired its present name in 1 largest religious gathering in the world, is held every 12 years at the confluence of the holy rivers attracting millions of Hindu devotees.
