Devo (/ˈdiːvoʊ/, originally /diːˈvoʊ/) is an American rock band formed in 1972, consisting of members from Kent and Akron, Ohio. The classic line-up of the band included two sets of brothers, the Mothersbaughs (Mark and Bob) and the Casales (Gerald and Bob), along with Alan Myers. The band had a No. 14 Billboard chart hit in 1980 with the single "Whip It", and has maintained a cult following throughout its existence.
Devo's style, over time, has shifted between punk rock, art rock, post-punk and new wave. Their music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary. Their often discordant pop songs feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures that have proven influential on subsequent popular music, particularly new wave, industrial and alternative rock artists. Devo was also a pioneer of the music video, creating many memorable clips for the LaserDisc format, with "Whip It" getting heavy airplay in the early days of MTV.

Live at the WHK Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio 10/31/1975 Recording Quality: A- From the earliest live show officially released, we have have one of the most likely last songs made with "Jungle Jim". This is one of my favorite songs, and I personally prefer this version other the one on "Hardcore Vol. 2". Judging by the recording, this was played almost immediatly after the 10 seconds that we have of "Baby Talkin' Bitches". Pictured is a very early picture from them in 1974/5 with (left to right) Bob 1, Jerry, Mark, and Jim on the ground. Oh yeah, also this is the last concet played with Jim and Bob 2 wasn't part of the band. Nice picture! To bad they aren't wearing their performance costumes that they named in the beginning of "Subhuman Woman" from this concert (listen to it here: https:...

Live at the WHK Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio 12/03/1977 Recording Quality: A- Remember when I uploaded "Chango" from the WHK in 1975? Well... they're back at the same location a little more than two years later and.... people aren't booing or unplugging and kicking them out! This is from the "1984... The Year After 1977" bootleg, which I personally think has a really dumb name and everything besides this is sssssssslllllllllloooooooooowwwww. I selected this because it's like the only fast thing on here, and I think these two songs are great. There appears to be a cowbell in Timing X. Pictured is the cover to the bootleg. More Devo coming soon!
(Intro song is "Chango" by DEVO) Who would've thought DEVO had extraterrestrial fans? None of you will probably believe me. I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do to change that. I'm just doing what I must do. Transcript (which Namuhton wanted me to include): "I shall now commence introduction. I am known as Namuhton. I come from the planet Spudnoff. I am currently in orbit around Planet Earth. I apologize for the low quality video feed, but I've misplaced my ZargCam 4000. The purpose of this video is a simple greeting. I am highly elated that DEVO is releasing a new album this year. In fact, that is the only reason I have come to visit this planet. I shall be purchasing a copy for everyone back home. DEVO, keep spreading your great message. I can only feel sorry for ...

This interview was conducted by LA Times Pop Critic Robert Hilburn and was aired around Jan/Feb of 1981. I'm not sure which music show it was part of (Casey Casem's American Top 40?) but it featues Jerry Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh answering questions about the uproar that was caused by their latest song, "Whip It".
-October 1981- (New Traditionalists era) Interview w/ Jerry Casale & Mark Mothersbaugh. *First 15 seconds, the audio is out of sync, but the rest of it is fine* **LEAVE COMMENTS, LET ME KNOW PEOPLE ARE CHECKIN' THIS STUFF OUT. I MAY POST MORE.**

Jason Reed interviewing the guys about their current Hardcore Tour (featuring their music from the mid-70's) along with their fundraising efforts to raise money for the family of Bob Casale ("Bob 2") who passed away in February. Check out www.clubdevo.com for more information.
This interview was originally intended to be used in a documentary on the history of rock 'n' roll in 1995. It is unclear as to what stopped this from being shown on TV, but the footage was clearly early in the filming process for the special. Either way, this interview contains tons of background information on Devo, a lot of interesting insight into punk and rocks histories, and some really hilarious stories.
Nightwatch with Charlie Rose. From around the time they released Shout. Also, it cuts off at the end and I don't have the rest of the interview. If you know any info about this or have the rest of it, i'd gladly post it! Anyway, Mark and Jerry talk about various DEVO songs. Thanks to Jeff Winner for the year again!
