In August, al Nusra Front jihadists took control of Syria’s side of the border crossing with Israel and kidnapped over 40 United Nations peacekeepers — who have since been released.
But al Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-affiliate, isn’t Israel’s only threat from Syria. President Bashar al-Assad’s military, in a possible effort to bait Israel into its civil war to shore up Arab sympathies, has been lobbing mortars across the border. Just a few weeks ago, the Israeli military shot down a Syrian plane flying over the Golan Heights — the first time it has done so since the 1980s.

SYRIA — A freelance war correspondent from Japan, 41-year-old Jumpei Yasuda, may be missing in Syria.
Regular updates on Yasuda's Twitter account and blog stopped on June 20, creating suspicions that he may have gone missing. His Twitter account was usually updated frequently, sometimes daily. His last tweet mentioned that he had been facing "serious, no-joke resistance" to his reporting and that it would be difficult to continue updating his situation in real time via social media, according to Japan Times.
Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said the government had not received any information regarding his condition or whereabouts.
According to Japan Times, Yasuda has entered numerous conflict zones. In 2004, when he returned to Japan after being held hostage in Iraq, he expressed regret about not properly understanding the dangers of entering war-torn areas.
Yasuda was a close friend of Kenji Goto, the journalist who was executed by the Islamic State terrorist group in January, also in Syria. However, when the Japan Times contacted Yasuda after Goto's murder, Yasuda said he would not stop reporting even after the tragic death of his friend.
The Foreign Ministry has issued an evacuation advisory to Japanese nationals planning to enter Syria, including a recommendation to defer all travel to the country — the highest-level warning — although it has no binding power.

The Syrian Ministry of Tourism has launched an initiative to reactivate the industry. Called "Syria shines once again" it aims to show potential visitors it's safe to travel to tourist sites in the country after more than three years of civil war.

Arabic pronunciation (help·info)), is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the West, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest.
In English, the name Syria was formerly synonymous with the Levant, known in Arabic as Sham, while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the third millennium BC. In the Islamic era, its capital city, Damascus, the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate, and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt.
The population of Syria is 74% Sunni, 12% Alawi, 10% Christian, and 3% Druze. Combined, 87% of the Syrian population is Muslim, while the other 10% is Christian, which includes mainly Arab Christians but also Assyrians and Armenians. Major ethnic minorities in Syria include Kurds (9%), Assyrians, Armenians, Turkmens and Circassians. The majority of the population is Arab (90%).

Frances Isabella Duberly travelled with her husband to the Crimea in 1854 and stayed with him throughout his time there, despite the protests of commanders such as Lord Lucan. As the only woman at the front-lines, she was of course the center of much attention. She was told of planned attacks ahead of time, giving her the opportunity to be in a good position to witness them.

The Syrian uprising is an ongoing, violent internal conflict in Syria. It is part of the wider Arab Spring, a wave of upheaval throughout the Arab world. Public demonstrations across Syria began on 26 January 2011 and developed into a nationwide uprising. Protesters demanded the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, the overthrow of his government, and an end to nearly five decades of Ba’ath Party rule.
Since spring 2011, the Syrian government has deployed the Syrian Army to quell the uprising. Several cities have been besieged, but nevertheless the unrest continues. According to witnesses, soldiers who refused to open fire on civilians were summarily executed by the Syrian Army. The Syrian government denied reports of defections, and blamed "armed gangs" for causing trouble. Since early autumn 2011, civilians and army defectors began forming fighting units, which began an insurgency campaign against the Syrian Army. The insurgents unified under the banner of the Free Syrian Army and fought in an increasingly organized fashion; however, the civilian component of the armed opposition lacks an organized leadership.

In August, al Nusra Front jihadists took control of Syria’s side of the border crossing with Israel and kidnapped over 40 United Nations peacekeepers — who have since been released.
But al Nusra Front, an al Qaeda-affiliate, isn’t Israel’s only threat from Syria. President Bashar al-Assad’s military, in a possible effort to bait Israel into its civil war to shore up Arab sympathies, has been lobbing mortars across the border. Just a few weeks ago, the Israeli military shot down a Syrian plane flying over the Golan Heights — the first time it has done so since the 1980s.
In part three of a five-part series, VICE News correspondent Simon Ostrovsky visits the top tourist destination in Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. Up here, tourists and UN observers stand side by side as they enjoy the great vantage of volcanic hills, sprawling vineyards, and Syria's civil war.

Regular updates on Yasuda's Twitter account and blog stopped on June 20, creating suspicions that he may have gone missing. His Twitter account was usually updated frequently, sometimes daily. His last tweet mentioned that he had been facing "serious, no-joke resistance" to his reporting and that it would be difficult to continue updating his situation in real time via social media, according to Japan Times.
Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said the government had not received any information regarding his condition or whereabouts.
According to Japan Times, Yasuda has entered numerous conflict zones. In 2004, when he returned to Japan after being held hostage in Iraq, he expressed regret about not properly understanding the dangers of entering war-torn areas.
Yasuda was a close friend of Kenji Goto, the journalist who was executed by the Islamic State terrorist group in January, also in Syria. However, when the Japan Times contacted Yasuda after Goto's murder, Yasuda said he would not stop reporting even after the tragic death of his friend.
The Foreign Ministry has issued an evacuation advisory to Japanese nationals planning to enter Syria, including a recommendation to defer all travel to the country — the highest-level warning — although it has no binding power.

The (Agency Asia), presented the picture to the Japanese is of photographer Toshifumi Fujimoto (Tuccifumi Fu Jimutw), which entered into Syria months ago in order to practice his favorite hobby in adventure photography and love risks, and found that the ongoing war in Syria can satisfy this passion .
but the Japanese photographer announced to joining the organization of the so-called "Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant" Mbaie Prince al-Baghdadi on obedience to establish a "caliphate" alleged.

Its ancient desert metropolises, old villages, impenetrable fortresses and biblical harbour towns have witnessed the rich and fascinating history of bygone times.Damascus is the capital of Syria and symbol of culture in the Near East and located a hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls and it was from there that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Khan As´Ad Pasha is often referred to as being the most beautiful caravansary in the Near East. Its inner courtyard is covered by eight mighty and partly painted cupolas each of which is supported by four pillars. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of a unique and mysterious metropolis, Palmyra, a legendary ancient city that was built due to the existence of the Tadmur Oasis. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there. Around a quarter of a million Bedouins live in Syria’s desert areas. They are nomads who speak Arabic and belong to the Muslim faith and their income is derived from sheep, goats and camels which produce both milk and meat. They travel the desert accompanied by their animals. Further north on the edge of the fertile Al Ghab Ditch is the ancient metropolis of Apameia, one of the most beautiful cities in the Near East. Apart from Bosra and Palmyra this huge city of ruins is one of the most important Hellenist regions in Syria. Syria is the Pearl Of The East. With deserts, wadis and mountains, castles and crusader fortresses, Roman ruins, palaces and mosques. A legendary country between both past and future whose cultural treasures still survive today.

The Khan As´Ad Pasha is often referred to as being the most beautiful caravansary in the Near East. Its inner courtyard is covered by eight mighty and partly painted cupolas each of which is supported by four pillars. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of a unique and mysterious metropolis, Palmyra, a legendary ancient city that was built due to the existence of the Tadmur Oasis. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there. Around a quarter of a million Bedouins live in Syria’s desert areas. They are nomads who speak Arabic and belong to the Muslim faith and their income is derived from sheep, goats and camels which produce both milk and meat. They travel the desert accompanied by their animals. Further north on the edge of the fertile Al Ghab Ditch is the ancient metropolis of Apameia, one of the most beautiful cities in the Near East. Apart from Bosra and Palmyra this huge city of ruins is one of the most important Hellenist regions in Syria. Syria is the Pearl Of The East. With deserts, wadis and mountains, castles and crusader fortresses, Roman ruins, palaces and mosques. A legendary country between both past and future whose cultural treasures still survive today.

Then came Persian, Roman and Islamic emperors followed by the Crusaders and Mongols. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls. It was from here that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Romans built a fort here that was constantly extended with impressive walls and towers and located directly outside the city wall, the River Barada was also of strategic importance. Although the Mongols destroyed the inner buildings, the fortress walls survived. The Suq is an important part of every Islamic city, a market that originated in ancient times. Thousands of shops in numerous interconnected lanes form the commercial heart of Damascus. In the Gold Suq everything glitters, bracelets, rings and even a large variety of kitchen utensils. Damascus has for thousands of years been a place desired by the powerful. Yet it has managed to survive and is still the most beautiful capital city in the Near East.

Syria, officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. Its capital Damascus is among the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, it is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including the Arab, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Mhallami, Mandeans and Turks. Religious groups include Sunni, Christians, Alawite, Druze religion, Mandeanism and Yezidi. Sunni Arabs make up the largest population group in Syria.
In English, the name "Syria" was formerly synonymous with the Levant (known in Arabic as al-Sham) while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the 3rd millennium BC. In the Islamic era, Damascus was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt.
The modern Syrian state was established after World War I as a French mandate, and represented the largest Arab state to emerge from the formerly Ottoman-ruled Arab Levant. It gained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was tumultuous, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949–1971. Between 1958-61, Syria entered a brief union with Egypt, which was terminated by a military coup. The Arab Republic of Syria came into being in 1963, transforming from the Republic of Syria in the Ba'athist coup d'état. Syria was under Emergency Law from 1963 to 2011, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered to be non-democratic. Bashar al-Assad has been president since 2000 and was preceded by his father Hafez al-Assad, who was in office from 1970 to 2000.

A young couple from Mississippi faces federal charges after the pair was arrested over the weekend for conspiring and attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State (ISIS) group.
The arrested couple, Jaelyn Delshaun Young, 20, and Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, 22, had been in fact revealing their plans of joining ISIS to covert FBI agents online since May, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Young allegedly said her skills in math and chemistry and work experience at an analytical lab as well as her partner’s computer science skills would be useful to ISIS. The couple also expressed that they would love to provide medical aid, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Young said the wedding took place in June and the couple would travel to Istanbul and eventually enter Syria to join ISIS using honeymoon as their cover story, CNN reported.
The couple was arrested at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport Saturday morning, just before boarding a plane to Istanbul. They could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, Reuters reported.

International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) Chief, Dr. Muhammad Shahid Amin Khan, stressed that the western and Gulf media reports on the events in Syria are "untrue."
In an interview with the Syrian Arab TV, Amin Khan pointed out that the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) condemns terrorism across the globe without any discrimination.
He added that the terrorists in Syria are receiving money and weapons from Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, pointing out that the so-called "Free Army" is just a group of terrorists.
He asserted that Syria has been the victim of the same terrorism targeting Pakistan and other countries because al-Qaeda organization which was fighting in Afghanistan against the U.S. occupation is now present in Syria.
IHRC Chief vehemently condemned the Qatari and Turkish policy which is based on funding terrorists to destabilize the Islamic countries.
He called on all sides in Syria to get involved in dialogue and find a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria according to Geneva Statement, calling on the opposition to change its course of supporting terrorism and to stop being mere tools in the hands of other countries.
Dr. Amin Khan revealed that the IHRC will host an international conference to solve crisis in Syria next February in Lebanon and several heads of states and international organizations' chiefs will be invited.
