Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson Major-General Igor Konashenkov confirmed on Wednesday that Syrian government forces had managed to break the blockade of the Kweires military airport in Aleppo Governorate which was under control of opposition militants. He added that they had done so with the help of Russian Air Force air strikes.
SOT, Igor Konashenkov, Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson (Russian): "Firstly, I would like to note that as a result of the Russian airstrikes, Syrian government forces blockaded the Kweires military airbase in the Aleppo Governorate. This airbase has been under the control of terrorists for more than two years. I want to stress that information regarding fighting positions and strong points around the Kweires airbase was provided by the Syrian opposition. This information was verified and additional reconnaissance was conducted. And after that our bombers carried out airstrikes. Also, I want to point out that local irregular volunteers actively assisted with an offensive operation in this region. Due to the help of irregular volunteers and government forces more than 900 militants were destroyed near the village of Telmam in Aleppo Governorate. This fierce fighting was conducted against militant groups of Ahrar ash-Sham. And as I already mentioned the terrorists took significant losses. As we have already stated, we have been conducting active additional reconnaissance using several information sources regarging the targets provided by the Syrian opposition."

On Monday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) – in cooperation with the National Defense Forces (NDF)- launched a fresh offensive inside the Aleppo Governorate’s southeastern countryside to lift ISIS’ two year long siege of the isolated Kuweires Military Airbase. The Syrian Armed Forces have started this offensive from two different axes, as the aforementioned is targeting the terrorist group at the Jabboul Lake front and the town of ‘Ayn Sabil. Thus, its goal is to spread out the ISIS fighters on the Deir Hafer Plateau.
At the moment, the SAA and NDF took control of the two hilltops at Tal Na’am and Tal Sab’in, which are located just north of Jabboul Lake. While the Syrian Armed Forces would prefer to reach the Kuweires Military Airbases from the Deir Hafer Highway, their current advance leaves them only two villages away from the southwestern corridor of the airport.
The main objective of this offensive is to lift the siege on the Kuweries Military Airport, but this assault also has a positive effect on the Syrian Armed Forces, due to the Deir Hafer Plateau’s proximity from the Syrian Government’s main supply route to the Aleppo Governorate.
The Syrian Air Forces targeted positions of the “Jaish al-Islam” and “Jabhat Al-Nusra” in the surroundings of Douma City, in the Eastern Ghota, Damascus Countryside. Syrian military sources report about “destroyed dens and vehicles of the terrorist organizations”. Additionally, the Syrian Armed Forces’ capture of the two hills overlooking Dhahiyat Al-Assad, while also displaying the absence of firefights inside the aforementioned area.
Separately, units of the Syrian army, in cooperation with the Lebanese Resistance, continued a military operation against the remaining dens of the militants in al-Zabadani city, 45 km to the west of Damascus. According to media reports, they destroyed a 500 meter-long tunnel between Madaya town and Madaya plain. The tunnel was used by terrorist networks as a supply route for transporting arms, ammunition, food and other materials
The clashes have been going on between popular Defense groups supported by Syrian forces and militants in al-Rawda village in the Lattakia province.
Meanwhile, Washington, supported by Western media, has been ‘discussing’ Russia’s continued military buildup in Syria. In numerous reports, they argue that Moscow has sent an unknown number of artillery units and 7 T-90s battle tanks to support Syrian government forces. Moreover, according to them, “hundreds” or maybe even “thousands” of Russian troops are already present in Latakia. Thus, if we reject propaganda, we can consider that the Western media has found Russian military advisers in Syria, at last. Other versions of direct Russian military presence aren't substantiated by factual information either. In turn, recent successful military actions of the Syrian government might prove the fact that Moscow has raised military assistance and supplies to Assad.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Al-Nusra” and its allies from Jund Al-Aqsa launched a powerful assault on the strategic town of Al-Si’in inside the Hama province. Intense firefights between the militants and the civilian-led “National Defense Forces” (NDF) have been going since yesterday.
This is likely the first of many attacks on the town of Al-Si’in. The town has become the focal point of their Hama offensive because it is strategically located 30km to the west of the Syrian Government’s only supply route to the Aleppo Governorate: Khanasser Highway. Furthermore, if Al-Si’in is lost to Jabhat Al-Nusra, the aforementioned terrorist group will have access to the two main roads that lead into both the Hama and Al-Salamiyah districts.
According to reports, militants withdrew additional forces from the Al-Ghab Plains front of the volatile battle for Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains) inside the Latakia Governorate northeastern countryside. So, SouthFront: Analysis & Intelligence expects a lull there.
Separately, the Syrian Arab Army’s “Cheetah Forces”led by Colonel Shady Isma’eel entered the town of Sheikh Ahmad in the suburbs of the Kuweires Military Airbase after intense firefights against ISIS. The NDF supports the SAA from the recently captured village of Tal Sab’een. This area is located approximately 4km away from the airbase. Thus, despite the adamant ISIS holdout, the SAA has made one more step to lift the siege from the Kuweires Military Airbase.
Elsewhere, ISIS launched an offensive on the Deir Ez-zour Military Airport’s outer parameters, targeting the southeastern gates protected by the SAA. ISIS successfully passed outside perimeter and pushed to the gates. Intense firefights started there.
According to the Arab sources, no more than one hour later, the Russian Air Force’s SU-24 fighter jets came into the Deir Ez-zour province to succor the Syrian Arab Army soldiers at the military airport. This proved extremely effective, as ISIS offensive was brocken due to their lack of cover against the airstrikes. As result, 25 militants were killed and over 40 were injured.

Aleppo Syria, Life Before the War, October 2000 walk through the Souq al-Madina
I visited Syria in October 2000. Aleppo was such a beautiful city to visit. This is a clip I shot walking the Souq al-Madina, the main market in the city center adjacent to the Citadel. I've never posted this footage prior to this. 15 years and a civil war later, this area has I believe seen major change and devastation. These images reflect more peaceful times in the heart of Aleppo, one of the o

These images reflect more peaceful times in the heart of Aleppo, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world; inhabited since perhaps as early as the 6th millennium BC. Post opening of the Suez canal, Aleppo's previous spot on the Silk Road no longer as relevant lead to isolation of Syria in the past few decades further exacerbated the situation, although perhaps it is this very decline that has helped to preserve the old city of Aleppo, its medieval architecture and traditional heritage. It won the title of the "Islamic Capital of Culture 2006", and has also witnessed a wave of successful restorations of its historic landmarks, until the start of the Syrian Civil War in 2011 and the Battle of Aleppo.
The city's strategic trading position attracted settlers of all races and beliefs who wished to take advantage of the commercial roads that met in Aleppo from as far as China and Mesopotamia to the east, Europe to the west, and the Fertile Crescent and Egypt to the south. The largest covered souq-market in the world is in Aleppo, with an approximate length of 13 kilometres (8.1 miles).
Souq al-Madina, as it is locally known, is an active trade centre for imported luxury goods, such as raw silk from Iran, spices and dyes from India, and coffee from Damascus. Souq al-Madina is also home to local products such as wool, agricultural products and soap. Most of the souqs date back to the 14th century and are named after various professions and crafts, hence the wool souq, the copper souq, and so on. (from Wikipedia)

STORYLINE:
On October 12th 2012 a strong Turkish military presence was in place along the country's volatile border with Syria.
Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said a plane intercepted on its way from Moscow to Damascus was carrying military equipment and ammunition to Syria.
Erdogan said the cargo seized by Turkish authorities late on Wednesday was destined for the Syrian military.
Syria has denied that the Syrian Air Airbus A320 was carrying an illicit cargo.
The incident inflamed already-heightened tension between the two neighbours.
Turkey and Syria, which were once close allies, have been exchanging artillery fire across the 910-kilometre (565 mile) border for days.
Nearly 100,000 Syrian refugees are being housed in Turkey, according to Turkey's prime minister.

Historic buildings in the ancient city of Aleppo, Syria sustained terrible damage due to the intensity of fighting between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the forces of Bashar Assad's regime.
Footage from the city, shot on October 12th, shows buildings reduced to rubble and streets lined with debris following weeks of indiscriminate bombardment by tanks and helicopters.

Travel video about destination Syria.
Syria is an ancient country of culture located between the Mediterranean and the desert. Its ancient desert metropolises, old villages, impenetrable fortresses and biblical harbour towns have witnessed the rich and fascinating history of bygone times.Damascus is the capital of Syria and symbol of culture in the Near East and located a hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls and it was from there that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Khan As´Ad Pasha is often referred to as being the most beautiful caravansary in the Near East. Its inner courtyard is covered by eight mighty and partly painted cupolas each of which is supported by four pillars. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of a unique and mysterious metropolis, Palmyra, a legendary ancient city that was built due to the existence of the Tadmur Oasis. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there. Around a quarter of a million Bedouins live in Syria’s desert areas. They are nomads who speak Arabic and belong to the Muslim faith and their income is derived from sheep, goats and camels which produce both milk and meat. They travel the desert accompanied by their animals. Further north on the edge of the fertile Al Ghab Ditch is the ancient metropolis of Apameia, one of the most beautiful cities in the Near East. Apart from Bosra and Palmyra this huge city of ruins is one of the most important Hellenist regions in Syria. Syria is the Pearl Of The East. With deserts, wadis and mountains, castles and crusader fortresses, Roman ruins, palaces and mosques. A legendary country between both past and future whose cultural treasures still survive today.

Take a tour of Ancient City of Bosra in Bosra, Syrian Arab Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The half-standing ruins of this dark-stoned city rise out of the southern Syrian landscape.
Nearly deserted today, Bosra has a great deal of history from thousands of years of habitation by different cultures.
The city is at least old enough to have appeared in historical documents from the fourteenth century BC.
Early in the first millennium AD, Bosra became a part of the Roman Empire, which is the strongest influence seen at work in the ruins.
Since then, it has been the territory of the Byzantine Empire and the Arabs who swept in during the seventh century.
Among the ruined city's Roman and Christian structures, the fortified amphitheater is probably the greatest.
This deep, stadium-like building is mostly intact and gives a taste of what Bosra may once have been like.
