Paula Marie Napuli Q & A on Homosexuality During Miss Zambales 2015 A local beauty pageant candidate was jeered in last Saturday's Miss Zambales 2015 competition in Iba, Zambales due to her stand against homosexuality. But Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago, who sat as one of the board of judges in the controversial question-and-answer portion, was quick to defend Paula Marie Napuli, an aspiring singer from San Antonio, Zambales. Napuli was asked for her opinion on homosexuality. "I don't agree on their situation right now. It's because I still believe in sacred... The Bible says that God is..." she said, before being interrupted by reactions from the audience. Santiago berated the audience who taunted the candidate, stressing she had a right to express her opinion on the issue. "Guys, respect No. 6's answer, okay? It's hard to be on stage and it is her opinion, so let her talk," the beauty queen said. Despite the booing, the stunned Napuli did not back down with her belief that God created only the union of man and woman. "I believe that God made man and a woman that will last forever on a sacred matrimony, and they will make a vow in front of the altar," she said. An architecture student, Nicole Dichoso, was crowned winner in the pageant chaired by beauty queen discoverer Renee Salud and Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez, held in conjunction with the Dinamulag Mango Fiesta of the province. The controversy once again highlighted the public scrutiny of beauties in the crucial question-and-answer segment of Philippine pageants.
