Our trip to Leyte after Typhoon Haiyan. We used Ipad google maps as our guide going to Surigao. Our team is composed of returned missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and we know the people, the language, the area. On our first night, we stayed in a hotel(Southern Star Realty and Travel and Tours) in Maasin near Pres. Andaya (Mission president of Tacloban Mission). Second night, we had to split. Our team stayed in Carigara chapel and the other team stayed in the Yolanda Headquarters of the LDS Church in Ormoc. Along the way, members fed us so we didn't really have problem with food. We were able to come up with gasoline funds because we did caroling to some members and other generous individuals. Toys were donated by Davao Stake. We used tamaraw FX so we could travel to our areas. The gasoline from davao to Surigao is about 5,000. The barge trip from Lipata, Surigao to San Ricardo Port is about 3,000. Then we travelled to Maasin because we really need the help of President Andaya. Tacloban is so much better now. Robinsons, Gasoline stations and banks are open. Electricity too like the street lights. Cellphone signals are ok. Water too is available. We were able to give out toys in Mayorga, Tolosa,Tacloban 1, Tanauan 1&2, Carigara 1&2, Capoocan, Alang-alang,Ormoc, Cabucgayan, Balaquid We left Davao city abut 9pm. Arrived in Lipata, Surigao about 6am. Was able to sakay barge around 11 am. Arrived in Leyte about 12 or 1pm,. Travelled land trip to Maasin arrived 5pm because we used the long cut not the short cut, but its ok. There is reason for everything hehe.. We stayed in a hotel in Maasin, travelled the next day in Tacloban which is about 3 hours away.
